“We’ve always loved girl power,” Perrie told us. “We’re all about feeling independent, feeling confident and strong in yourself. It’s honest and stuff that we’ve experienced. We want to write about things that we can always relate to.”

Simon Cowell’s BFF predicts the future of One Direction in chat with us.
The X Factor’s Louis Walsh predicts the future of One Direction in a world exclusive chat with Digital Spy – and let’s just say he’s not looking forward to Zayn’s rumoured TV show.

In a candid chat with X Factor’s silver-tongued legend (sorry Simon!), Louis doubled down on his prediction that 1D’s hiatus will probably last for at least a decade.

“Harry is going to be a real star,” Louis assured us, before admitting: “I don’t know what’s going to happen with Zayn.

“Niall is probably the one to watch. He might surprise us all, if he gets the right song. It’s all about the record label and who is managing him and all that.

“Louis will be a manager. Liam might surprise us with songs because I think he is quite a good songwriter.”

‘We created monsters’: X Factor judge Louis Walsh believes One Direction succumbed to the talent show curse and developed a ‘sense of entitlement’
Louis Walsh is making a welcome return to The X Factor panel this year.

And the veteran judge has opened up about some of the success stories from the ITV singing competition in a new interview with The Telegraph, admitting that Simon Cowell’s flagship show has spawned many a ‘monster’.

Discussing how many of the manufactured stars have forgotten their humble beginnings, Louis went on to reveal that One Direction’s biggest downfall was that they ‘believed the hype around them’.

Louis Walsh on One Direction split, ‘monster’ pop stars and why Nick Grimshaw was wrong for X Factor
When Louis Walsh was signed up by his old music-industry buddy Simon Cowell to judge The X Factor, back in 2004, he had no idea what he was getting himself into.

“Simon’s mind would be ticking over: ‘Who am I going to throw to the vultures tonight?’ and it was usually me. I did mind initially because I had the idea that [The X Factor] was a talent show. But it’s not, it’s a soap opera meets reality show.”

In that soap, Walsh played tittering court jester to Cowell’s evil overlord: weeping, bickering, wailing: “This is one of the hardest decisions I’m ever going to have to make,” as he consigned no-hopers to showbiz oblivion, or “You owned the stage!” to the likes of his favoured acts such as, er, Jedward.

He was the longest-serving judge, missing only one season in 2007 when Cowell decided to make the show “edgier”. It didn’t work but last year, hoping to fight dropping ratings, he was booted off again, usurped by Radio 1’s Nick Grimshaw and pop star Rita Ora, who joined Cowell and Cheryl Fernandez-Versini on the panel. “I was sacked and it was fine,” admits Walsh, who is 64, but looks a good decade younger, thanks to a hair transplant and what he calls the DFE – “Don’t F—ing Eat” – diet (“But no Botox, look what it did to Kylie!”).

The X Factor 2016: Simon Cowell admits he HATES the room auditions and calls them a “nightmare”
Maybe he doesn’t *actually* like to face the music.?

We were all very excited to hear that the room auditions would be back on The X Factor this year – but it seems one person really wasn’t happy.

And, awkwardly, that person happened to be Simon Cowell.

Because while us X Factor fans might love the intimate setting of the room auditions, it makes it really cringe for Simon.

“I hate it,” he admitted. “Personally, I’ve found it a nightmare. That’s probably why people like it so much.”

As if we’d be so mean, Simon…

Anyway, he went on: “I find it so uncomfortable, so awkward. I can’t stop laughing, I have a real problem with that, and the contestants are like five feet away from you.

“When you’re in a big arena, it’s a lot easier – you have the public behind you. When they come in and they are really bad, there’s literally nowhere to hide. It’s really awkward.”

The X Factor 2016: Louis Walsh screamed at Simon Cowell in weekly 2am phone calls last year
Did Simon just say Louis could come back to get some sleep?

Simon Cowell has revealed that Louis Walsh was so angry about The X Factor last year that he would ring him up to berate him.

Every week.

At two o’clock in the morning.

Yep, Simon revealed that every weekend he would get an earful from Louis – who hasn’t exactly been shy about slagging off last year’s judges Nick Grimshaw and Rita Ora.

“What was funny was that he used to phone me every week,” Simon said. “I’d get an hour where he would scream down the phone and I’d be like, ‘Well, stop watching, I can’t help it, it’s not my fault if you don’t like it anymore’.

“But honest to God, it was a weekly call. It would start about two in the morning and I’d be like, ‘Oh God, it’s Louis again’. I’d put it on speaker, lie down and listen.”

The X Factor 2016: Simon Cowell promises some BIG changes to the live shows
Don’t you dare ditch Deadlock, Simon.?

We haven’t even had the start of the auditions on The X Factor yet, but Simon Cowell is already making us excited about the live shows.

The hopeful/brave singers taking part in the show this year will face the room auditions, choreography and group tests at Boot Camp, the dreaded Six-Chair Challenge and Judges’ Houses before finally making it to the live shows.

But if they think they know what to expect when they get there, they’d better think again – because it sounds like Simon is planning to mix things up a little bit.

“We’re going to make a couple of changes to the live shows,” he teased.

The X Factor 2016: Is Sharon Osbourne actually going to have time to mentor her acts?
?She’s going to be in the US for most of the week.

You can’t accuse Sharon Osbourne of slacking off – she might be returning to The X Factor, but she’s going to keep her work commitments in the US as well.

We need a good three days to recover from a weekend of The X Factor but Sharon’s taking it all in her stride, jetting back and forth to the States so she can keep starring on The Talk.

“I’m going to leave LA on Thursday, I get in Friday and will go straight to the studio, be there Saturday and Sunday, then Monday morning I film with the contestants and Monday afternoon, I fly home,” she explained.

Erm, is it us or does anyone else feel like they need a nap after just reading that?

Hallelujah! The X Factor fab four are back, Dermot’s back… our show is back: TV reviewer Jaci Stephen is thrilled the ITV hit has brought back some old favourites
It’s what we pray for every year: the contestant who just has the lot – the X Factor that the whole show so often manages to evade.

But in 16-year-old student Samantha, it appears they’ve found it very quickly.

As returning judge Nicole Scherzinger put it: ‘You seem so ahead of the game.’ She was. Fantastically strong voice, self-assured, with the kind of trendy image that seems popular among the young these days (clothes out of a dumpster rather than the high street), she was extraordinary. And she’d even brought her grandfather, who never fulfilled his singing ambitions because he had to look after his family (come on: it wouldn’t be The X Factor without the Kleenex moments).

Samantha wasn’t the only huge talent – or the only one with a story. Twenty-seven-year-old primary school teacher Melissa brought along her husband and cute kids.
