Simon Cowell: ‘Last year’s X Factor was very predictable’
Simon Cowell has described last year’s X Factor as “predictable”.

With a judging panel featuring Gary Barlow, Louis Walsh, Nicole Scherzinger and Sharon Osbourne, the competition was won by prison guard Sam Bailey.

Speaking to Weekend magazine, he said: “It’s the talent that really defines the show. Last year, it was OK, but it wasn’t my favourite year.

“I think it was very predictable right from the get-go who was going to win and once the live shows started Sam Bailey was in a different league to everybody else.”

Cowell also said that the final, which was contested by Bailey, Luke Friend and Nicholas McDonald, could have been more exciting.

“Cheryl and I said if we had been mentoring Tamera Foster we would have got her into the final and that would have made it more exciting,” he added.

X Factor 2014: Simon Cowell takes swipe at “idiot” flop judges
X Factor boss Simon Cowell has put out a warning to his judges not to make themselves look like idiots.

Mentioning no names, of course.

Speaking ahead of the upcoming series, Simon claimed that members of The X Factor panel needed to be successful in order to prove their worth.

“To do what I do, the only thing that bothers me is whether or not I am relevant,” he explained. “If you are sitting on these shows and you are not having hit records or hit artists in your real life I think you look a bit of an idiot.

“All I care about is if I can sit on one of these shows and justify why I am there because in my day job I am creating hit artists.

“Otherwise you are just a judge for hire.”

Watch out One Direction! Simon Cowell creates eight-piece boy band and calls them ‘one of the best groups ever on X Factor’
Simon Cowell has created the biggest X Factor band ever by putting together eight solo acts.

The music mogul is hoping to achieve similar success as he has with One Direction – who were formed on the ITV talent show in 2010 – by forming a new all-male group after all eight impressed on their own but failed to make it through as solo artists.

A source told The Sun: ‘The boys were the strongest category by far at boot camp and it really hurt the judges to say goodbye to so much talent. In the end they decided to make the extra boys into one big group. Between the eight of them they’ve got everything they need to be a success.’
