X Factor UK Headlines for 08/19/12

Leona Lewis, Misha B and Rebecca Ferguson announce/tease new singles! Listen to Aiden Grimshaw’s album! Read an interview with Steve Mac, songwriter for Simon Cowell’s acts!

Leona Lewis‘ new single “Trouble” will premiere on the radio on Tuesday. It features American rapper Childish Gambino. Popjustice says the song is “moody, amazing and not a ballad”. What’s more, it will be available on iTunes UK on October 7 and Leona’s 3rd album Glassheart drops just a week later (October 15th). Sony have classed the new release as a “global priority”. Who wrote “Trouble”? Emeli Sande, singer/songwriter who was heavily showcased at the Olympics opening and closing ceremonies (“Read All About It”).

Misha B announced on Twitter the title of her next single. Studio recording of “Do You Think Of Me?” isn’t available yet, but you can hear Misha’s live performance HERE.

Finally, Rebecca Ferguson mentioned on Twitter that “new single goes to UK radio soon”. I did a little research on my own and it looks like Rebecca’s debut album “Heaven” will be re-released on October 15 according to HMV, with some new material.
New tracklist:

1. Nothing’s Real But Love
2. Glitter & Gold
3. Shoulder To Shoulder
4. Fairytale (Let Me Live My Life This Way)
5. Mr Bright Eyes
6. Fighting Suspicions
7. Teach Me How To Be Loved
8. Run Free
9. Diamond To A Stone
10. Too Good To Lose
11. Backtrack
12. Good Days, Bad Days

Live At Liverpool Echo Arena

“Backtrack” is also featured on the US release of “Heaven”. You can hear it HERE. I think this the new single.

He told the Radio Times: “This is my ninth year and every year I get nervous that Simon will bring someone new in, but I know the show and what works.

“My ambition is to get to 10 years on the show – after that we’ll see. I don’t want to be like Brucie on Strictly. I will know when it’s time to give it up.”

We’re their mentors, not their mothers! X Factor judges rule out curfew on contestants – so are they secretly praying for MORE scandalous behaviour like Frankie Cocozza’s?
The last series generated a string of negative headlines about contestants partying late into the night, bed-hopping and – in one case – boasting about drug-taking.

So as The X Factor returned to our screens last night, many expected ITV bosses to adopt a stricter approach.

But far from enforcing rigid curfews and sex bans to avoid further scandals, new judge Nicole Scherzinger said last night she was relaxed about the behaviour of hopefuls on the show.

The former Pussycat Dolls star, 34, said: ‘We are not their mums – we are their mentors.’

Steve Mac: He writes the songs that make the whole world sing
His name is Steve Mac, and he is the most successful songwriter in modern British music. You wouldn’t think it to look at him – there is nothing flash or brash about him – but the statistics speak for themselves: 23 No 1 singles, 77 No 2 singles, 104 Top 5s. In a writing career spanning barely 15 years, his songs have racked up more than 140 million sales worldwide. His dominance is unparalleled: turn on the radio, and you are rarely a few songs away from another Steve Mac composition. And yet few people outside the industry have heard of him.

“And that’s just how I like it,” he says. “It’s the music that’s important, not me.” But there is another reason, too. “The kind of music I make, I always feel people will be a touch cynical about.” He shrugs. “It’s not exactly for the taste makers, is it?”

He’s right about that. He was Susan Boyle’s producer, the architect of Westlife’s endless ballads, and is one of the masterminds steering One Direction towards global boy-band dominance.

“Simon [Cowell] once said the only credibility that matters comes from having No 1 singles,” he says, nodding. “And I’m very competitive in that way. If my songs don’t reach No 1, then I can’t help but feel I’ve failed.”
