X Factor UK Headlines for 05/12/13

One Big Announcement coming on May 16th!

ONE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT – Countdown set to end on May 16th, 2013

One Direction “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT”: 1D tease fans with countdown to mystery reveal
Niall and Liam have hinted with news about #1BIGANNOUNCEMENT, and there’s even a countdown website. Oh PLEASE tell us what it is….
Forget the countdown until Christmas day or the doom of watching the clock strike midnight on NYE – this is huge.

We have no self control around anything that’s hidden or wrapped, we certainly don’t cope well (or rationally) when we’re waiting for exciting news.

We’d rather not know there was any exciting news until the exciting news is ready to be announced. You know?

That’s why One Direction telling us they have some MASSIVE news – but they can’t tell us more until May 16th – is akin to torture.

Forget the rumours – Sharon Osbourne has agreed a £1.5million deal to return to the UK version of X Factor.

After much wrangling, and rumours surrounding which judge would be axed to make way for the fiery red head, the reality star has agreed terms this week and ITV bosses are already drafting an announcement.

According to reports the 60-year-old wife of rocker Ozzy Osbourne will replace Tulisa who has reportedly been told she will not return.

Why Sharon Osbourne’s return to The X Factor is Strictly for older viewers
Mark Jefferies reveals the thinking behind Simon Cowell’s big gamble…

So Sharon Osbourne is one way to boost ratings on The X Factor, according to Mr Cowell.

Her name has been in the mix for the judging panel for a few months now. But when I first wrote on twitter Mrs O could be making a return, the response was ‘oh’ rather than any real excitement.

The reason for that apathy is simple.

Viewers are used to fresh names and format changes on Cowell’s shows.

So a move to bring back an old judge may seem like a step backwards.

Teenage fans of The X Factor are hardly going to be excited at Sharon’s return either, especially when last year they were considering signing up young singers like Rita Ora for a judging role.

My understanding is that Simon Cowell and executive producer Richard Holloway have signed Sharon to try to get more of the older viewers back watching the show.

Louis Walsh signs up for X Factor on cheap
…but he still gets £1m

LOUIS Walsh has signed up to judge the new X Factor — after refusing to push for a rise on his old £1million deal.

He told bosses it was not right to ask for more as many viewers are struggling financially.

The 60-year-old pop boss’s stance is in stark contrast to the other judges on the show, which is back on ITV at the end of August.

Sharon Osbourne is this week set to sign to return after agreeing a £1.8million package, including £300,000 in first-class plane tickets between the US and UK.

Gary Barlow wants to boost his £1.5million deal and is close to signing. Nicole Scherzinger wants a similar agreement to Gary’s — but sources say she is “90 per cent certain” to return.

Plan to Spice up show

X FACTOR bosses are lining up Spice Girl Mel B to replace Nicole Scherzinger if the US star bails.

The former Pussycat Doll has still not agreed to join the new series, although she held talks with producers last week.

She is the only judge earmarked for the new-look panel not to have committed so far — with Sharon Osbourne, Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh all expected to sign on the dotted line.

Nicole has reportedly been offered £1million to join the ITV show, but doesn’t know whether she can commit herself because she has a new album to promote in November.

Britain’s Got …. higher ratings than The Voice
BRITAIN’S Got Talent drew its biggest audience of the series last night and opened up a gap of 3.5 million viewers over rival The Voice.

ITV’s BGT had an average audience of 10.9 million – including viewers of the catch-up +1 channel – to land its series high.

The show was up one million on the equivalent programme last year.

But it was at the expense of BBC1’s The Voice, which was 600,000 down on the previous week with an average of 7.4million for the first battle round of the series.

And it was a colossal drop of almost four million on the first battle round in 2012 which had an audience of 11.2million
