This IS my last series of X Factor, Gary Barlow tells viewers as he announces during live show that he will be leaving at the end of this season
Gary Barlow last night confirmed rumours he will quit The X Factor at the end of the current series.

Speculation has been rife that the Take That star was planning to leave and, on last night’s show, Gary told three-piece boy band Rough Copy: ‘I’ve been here for three years and I’m so pleased that for my last year on the show I get to work with you guys.’

ALL judges out of The X Factor as Nicole Scherzinger says she’s going to leave
Nicole Scherzinger has reportedly revealed that she wants to quit The X Factor – leaving bosses in ‘crisis’ as they face having to find an entirely new judging line-up for next year.

All three of her fellow panellists are already set to exit the talent competition at the end of the series, with Gary Barlow announcing his departure live in last night’s episode.

Sharon Osbourne has repeatedly insisted that she only wanted to return for one last hurrah, while even Louis Walsh – the only judge to have appeared on all ten editions – has hinted that his time is up.

Now, according to The Daily Star, Osbourne has claimed in her new autobiography that former Pussycat Doll Nicole will join them.

Simon Cowell in talks to return to The X Factor UK in 2014 after USA flop
Simon Cowell is reportedly set to make his comeback to The X Factor UK next year in a megabucks deal with ITV.

The media mogul left in 2010 to launch the talent contest in the United States – but he is now said to be considering heading home after it failed to prove as successful across the pond.

According to The Sun, he is negotiating a contract worth a whopping £50million – although this would likely involve the renewal of X Factor and Britain’s Got Talent, as ITV’s current agreement for both shows expires at the end of the year.

However, Simon will not decide whether or not he’ll rejoin the panel until the future of the American version has been determined.

Why is the X Factor making idols of thugs, drug abusers and a porn star? Scandal of wannabe pop stars’ tainted posts
They’ve always excelled at air-brushing at The X Factor. And this week, as the 12 final acts were ‘unveiled’ via a glossy photo shoot, they were at it again.

But, this year, there is undoubtedly more to gloss over than ever before.

While the majority of the final dozen appear to have led largely blameless lives, at least three have tainted pasts, involving drug-taking, the glamorisation of gun culture and violence.

One is left wondering if the show’s bosses give any thought to the message they are sending to the millions of impressionable youngsters who tune in every week.

This year’s final selection of young men and women — supposedly the brightest vocal talents in the country — includes two with criminal records. It is astonishing, especially given that contestants in previous years have been expelled under similar circumstances.

X Factor’s Rough Copy: Our crime past makes us good role models
X Factor group Rough Copy have argued that their checkered past makes them better role models to young fans who might be struggling with crime.

Kazeem Ajobe, 24, has had run-ins with the law in 2006 and 2010 involving assault charges and possession of cannabis but has since turned his life around after serving 250 hours community service.

‘I’ve come a long way from my past. I mean, being in a boy band and having a little son, being in a long term relationship – it just helped. Having my two brothers as well to help me on my journey,’’ he told Guilty pleasures while joined by bandmates Sterling Ramsey, 25, and 27-year-old Joey Thomas.

Bullies who kicked me in the face with football boots want to be my friends now says X Factor contender Sam
X Factor star Sam Callahan was so badly tormented by bullies at school he was forced to call the police.

The 19-year-old said he was pinned down and kicked in the face by a bully wearing football boots in one brutal attack.

The Essex-born barman, who last night performed in the first of the ITV talent contest’s live shows, said he was targeted because of his dream of becoming a pop star.

And he revealed that the same bullies have recently sent him good luck messages on Facebook after spotting him on the show.

Callahan claimed the persecution at his secondary school grew so bad that he left and moved to the Sylvia Young Theatre School in West London, whose former pupils include Spice Girl Emma Bunton and the late singer Amy Winehouse.

Huge plaudits for the X-Factor’s colour-blindness
Say what you like about Simon Cowell’s show, it is one of the least racist annexes of the UK music industry

Gracious, it’s already the time of year when aggrieved music lovers traditionally surge forth to condemn The X Factor. Should we expect another po-faced campaign to rob Simon Cowell of the Christmas No 1? Or just more industrial-level whinging from those who fret about how it’s destroying British music. That it is not about “real” music (maan!), just bubblegum pap, and televised slop, for the masses. How such shows clog up the industry, suck up all the resources, make it impossible for new artists to catch a break.

Maybe The X Factor could be judged guilty of all these things, and more (British music should not be wholly forged in weekend TV).

However, perhaps the British music industry could also learn something from The X Factor – a show that not only promotes working-class kids but also, far less famously, gives black performers a fair hearing.

It seems to me that The X Factor is fast becoming one of the least racist, and most colourblind, annexes of the modern British music industry.

Saturday night was all about the eighties as The X Facto turned up the heat – and the dry ice – on the first live show of the series.

But while this year’s contestants dusted off a string of power ballads, two of the judging panel were vying to outdo each other in dresses that positively oozed early-eighties glam.

Indeed, both Nicole Scherzinger and returning Sharon Osbourne glittered beneath the bright lights at Fountain Studios after taking to the stage with fellow judges Gary Barlow and Louis Walsh.
