X Factor Top 8 – #1 Hits – What Should The Finalists Sing?

The theme for this week’s X Factor has just been revealed. @xfactoraccess tweets that the Top 8 finalists will perform #1 hits.

What songs would you like the Top 8 to sing? I’ll start by making a suggestion for each contestant. I kept things contemporary.

Diamond White – “Irreplaceable” by Beyonce
Vino Alan – “Smooth” by Santana and Rob Thomas – Vino could sing it with a soulful twist.
Carly Rose Sonenclar – “Nothing Compares to U” by Sinead O’Connor – Could be an interesting pick for Carly
5th Harmony – “Unpretty” by Destiny’s Child
Tate Stevens – Amazed by Lonestar – He could invoke his wife and family, blah blah blah
Paige Thomas – “We Found Love” by Rihanna. Seems obvious, doesn’t it?
Emblem 3 – “Whistle” by Flo Rida – The kids on Glee are singing it too. CROSS PROMOTION!
CeCe Frey – “S&M” by Rihanna feat Britney Spears – LULZ GALORE

    Spot-on suggestions!

    Has Prince cleared NC2U for anyone?  Even the video never lasts more than 24 hrs on YT.  Might be interesting remixed as a country song for Tate.

    Does Diamond have the swag to cover Beyonce?  Otherwise it’s an excellent choice – little kids have been singing “to the left, to the left” nonstop for the past 4 years, so she’d be quite comfortable with the lyrics.

    I wanna see 5th Harmony have a breakout moment.  Little Mix did it last year on XF UK with an En Vogue song.  Can 5th Harmony pull off the swag/sassy/sexy/cheeky of En Vogue?  I can think of 2-3 of them that could, but all 5?  OTOH Unpretty is very (ironically) pretty and anthemic, allowing each girl to have a solo (their MO at this point).

    Vino-Burn It Down by Linkin Park
    Carly Rose-The One That Got Away by Katy Perry. She should do the acoustic ballad version. It’s really pretty.
    Tate-Don’t know and don’t care
    5th Harmony- We Are Young by Fun. I think they could do a killer group take on this song. 
    Douchebag3- Sorry For Party Rockin by LMFAO. It’s so fitting for their douchiness.
    Paige-Umbrella by Rihanna. This song fits her dark pop signature.
    CeCe-Can’t Get You Outta My Head by Kylie Minogue. It’s fits CeCe’s sexy persona well. It will also give her back her confidence.

    Love the “Unpretty” suggestion for Fifth Harmony.

    I’d give Emblem3 something by Incubus.  I’m sure “Drive” or “Wish You Were Here” was number 1 on some chart.

    Paige: Only Girl in the World - Rihanna
    5th Harmoney: Stronger – Kelly Clarkson (have to go uptempo to stay in this competition!)
    Emblem3: Hold It Against Me – Britney Spears (that could be GOOD) or Hey Ya by OutKast
    Carly: Firework – Katy Perry (she needs to go more modern)
    Diamond: Teenage Dream – Katy Perry (also needs to go more modern)
    Tate: Inside Your Heaven – Carrie Underwood (he’d be murdered before this ever happened but I think he could have a moment on Carrie’s moment)
    Vino: Grenade – Bruno Mars

    Didn’t Tate sing Amazed last week?

    TLC is Unpretty. Maybe they could do the Glee mashup with I Feel Pretty since Simon loves random mashups and network synergy.

    That’s a good suggestion for 5th Harmony, I could see them singing Irreplaceable by Beyonce too.

    #1 Hits (I suppose they mean BillBoard?) could have interesting possibilities, with a little imagination – but I doubt it will have either imagination or interest, no matter what they sing.

    I wonder if the Producers will pick Contemporary songs? I guess there’s no such thing as a current No 1 that hasn’t been done to death lately – Grenade, Firework, Poker Face, etc. and someone will probably have to do something by Adele.

    Same difference as hearing the same limited selection of older songs, over and over on all these shows. IDK which is worse, probably the current ones, since they are already all over radio in the originals. The contestants can’t do their own arrangements anyway – so odds are not good on hearing anything with a new ‘take’ at all. 

    I’ll check back later for what new ways the judgementors screw with the hamsters.

    I wonder if CeCe can do “Sexy and I Know It” again, as she did in the Judge’s Homes. I want her to have a comeback, bringing back the girl we saw before the live shows.

    I’m done with Adele. If they are going to do her,they should do Skyfall. I think that went to number one for a bit. Plus, it hasn’t been done to death. I bet money someone is getting adele though. My bet is on Carly.

    Prince clears his songs for XF UK so there shouldn’t be a problem.

    In a discussion I remember about Prince, it was pointed out that he doesn’t clear his songs in the US, but made an exception for Paris Bennett (Idol S5) and Stephanie Edwards (S6.)

    I would love to hear Tate do a Garth Brooks song (any of them) but I don’t know if Garth’s songs are cleared. I am not a big country fan but I love Garth.

    When asked what kind of artist she wants to be, Carly has said basically Bruno Mars crossed with Kelly Clarkson, so don’t be surprised if she picks something by one of those two (e.g. Because of You, Grenade).

    Lol Unpretty would be a great idea but there is no way Simon will chose a HipHop group’s song like TLC for them. The song is quite mellow as well. They’ll have to do a different version if that’s the case. If only the material wasn’t inappropriate and the girls had some swag I think for NO.1 Hit week ‘Lady Marmalade’ would would be a really good choice. I think most of the girls have the powerhouse vocals to pull it off and it plays to their strengths. But the song needs stage presence as well.

    I think Carly can make it through without doing uptempo as long as she sticks to big songs cos Melanie Amaro did that… and she did no uptempo and won. I would like to see her try another uptempo though but without that sort of production she had on Good Feeling. Valerie by Amy Winehouse. Although it was only No1 in the Netherlands and UK
