Here are the results of last night’s poll. The only contestant to sing rock on rock themed night is the winner!

  1. Josh Krajcik – 32.94%
  2. Drew – 21.14%
  3. Melanie Amaro – 14.22%
  4. Astro – 8.81%
  5. Rachel – 6.91%
  6. Lakoda Rayne – 4.31%
  7. Marcus Canty – 3.91%
  8. LeRoy Bell – 3.52%
  9. Chris Rene – 2.87%
  10. Stacy Francis 1.37%

Although, I wouldn’t put Josh at the top of my own personal power list.  Mine would look like this:

  1. Melanie Amaro – If Simon can Beyonce this girl up, she’s got a chance to take the whole thing. She’s the best singer in the whole bunch.  But I’m still not convinced she can pass as a modern singer and I have yet to see her exhibit real star power. Nevertheless, she was fantastic last night.
  2. Astro – This little punk is…fabulous.  His raps are clever and relevant. The question is, will a diverse American audience vote a rapper though to 1st place? I’m thinking no. But it doesn’t matter–he’s going to get signed anyway.
  3. Drew – Controversial. I know many of you found Drew’s performance last night boring.  But, although I called for her last week to change it up this week, I didn’t mind that she sang another slow ballad.   Her riveting vocals made up for not deviating from the usual.  Also, there’s something to be said for establishing your style while on a singing competition. Better not to confuse the audience who will eventually be buying your records.
  4. Josh Kracjik – A million brownie points to Josh for actually, you know…singing rock music.  This wasn’t a favorite performance for me from Josh, but he proved he could handle arena rock without being swallowed up. Impressive.  This guy is going to go deep.  Also, he needs to continue to choose his own songs.
  5. Rachel Crow -  Uh. Rachel needs to pick her own songs too, because Simon has no clue.  Rachel should be at the top of this list every week, but Simon is blowing it for her.  Rachel is a fantastic singer who needs the right material to shine.
  6. LeRoy Bell – A fantastic, but old fashioned singer–LeRoy, unfortunately, lacks charisma.  Unless, he’s so intimidated and afraid, he’s unable to show it. In either case, he’ll wind up a middle packer at best.
  7. Marcus Canty -  Marcus is a great singer, one of the best of the bunch. But last night, he was clearly uncomfortable playing sexy rock god. I felt embarrassed for him. Why try to shove Marcus into an image that’s clearly unsuitable–unless they’re looking to bus him.
  8. Chris Rene – Chris is proving to be a weak singer, and his raps aren’t as clever as Astro’s.  Chris was off to a strong start with his “Young Homie” audition,  but he’s a middle packer at best now.
  9. Lakoda Rayne -  These poor girls were thrown together against their will, and it shows. They aren’t gelling at all. And their faux country stylings are barely tolerable.  They’re safe this week, but running on fumes.
  10. Stacy Francis – Stacy and her hysterical, off-key caterwauling need to go. Like NOW.   If she ends up in the bottom 2, the judges will ditch her no matter WHO she’s pitted against. My prediction to go home.

What say you? How would you rank the contestants? Who do you think is going home?

Melanie is a good solid belter, but I just don’t know where she fits in
with the current music scene.  I don’t think we are going back to the
Whitney/Celine/Mariah era.  And even if we were, she doesn’t have that
    spark.

Simon probably already has booked studio time for Melanie with RedOne.

Based on Simon & L.A.’s reaction to Stacy being announced safe last week, I agree.  They’ll vote to get rid of her if given the opportunity.  I hope it happens tonight.

He’s totally going to win. That would be the most hilarious outcome ever. Not that he’s not talented, but I doubt Simon wants Josh as the winner.

They have been subtly sabotaging him, starting with his audition and his overbearing mother. Add to that a teen-aged daughter who was born while he was still in high school, a live-in girlfriend who claims she has on occasion been the only support for their household; and Josh doesn’t come off as all that likable. If they really wanted Josh to make the finale, they have let him play guitar last last night. That two-handed grab the mic style does not come over well on TV.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Rock Night failed to rock!   Why did they bother if no one stepped up except Josh, and it was not his best night.   Rachel Crow singing Satisfaction gave no satisfaction.   Chris Rene came up short, no pun intended, as did Stacy Francis.   I just don’t get Drew at all.   I wish Simon would stop explaining that she’s only 14 and tell us why she is even on the show.   Astro got it going on, but I want to sqash him…oh well, the snark was flying all over the place last night, and that  was at least fun to watch.

As much as I’d like Stacy to go, she received a lot of criticism last night, and her fans may have rallied to save her. I think the bottom two will be LR and unfortunately, Leroy. He has a wonderful voice, but just isn’t a flashy performer.
As long as my favorite, Drew, is safe, I’ll be fine with the results. I never thought I’d be a fan of a 14 year old, as the younger ones tend to lack the life experience and maturity to interpret the emotions of many songs, but there is something very special about her. When she sings, she gets to the heart of things. I would love to buy her album.

I would put Astro at the top of my power list.  The kid has been great week after week (IMO) and I think he is more popular than his detractors might think.  I don’t know if he’s popular enough to win X Factor, but IMO it won’t matter in the long run.  I’d put Josh at #2-he had one of the best performances of the night.

I think Stacy and Lakoda Rayne’s days are numbered.

The rest?  I wouldn’t rank Drew as high as #3, I see her as middle of the pack and fading.  On the other hand, I’m not sure how popular she is with respect to votes.  She reminds me of Siobhan during her season.  Siobhan had a very vocal online fanbase who swore she would be the next big thing/most successful finalist from her season/win the whole shebang, but she ran out of steam.  I’m not sure if Drew will go the distance, but if her fanbase is as large as it is vocal, she’ll be around for a while.  I don’t think Simon has been that great of a mentor for any of his girls (particularly Drew and Melanie).

The other one I’m not sure about is Chris Rene.  I was prepared to brand him “Andrew Garcia” this week but I have to admit I liked his performance and thought it was his best since “Young Homie”.  But that isn’t saying much.  I feel like he’s been fading too, yet I wonder if his popularity has been fading along with his performances.  I’ve noticed that they have waited until just before they announce the bottom two to declare Chris safe.  Even though Steve announces over and over that the results are in no particular order, I wonder if they’re doing that to scare Chris’ fans.   It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Drew and Chris.  In spite of how I feel about both I think they have the potential to become successful recording artists after the competition ends.

In the end, it’s going to be a Simon vs. L.A. showdown.  I’m hoping Josh can hang in there, but Stacy, Leroy and Lakoda Rayne are all on borrowed time.

Ok, so I’m just about 70 yrs. old and I have never, ever liked rap, but lately I find that I enjoy listening to Emenem (spelling?) and this kid, Astro, is so intelligent and creative I am simply blown away by his swagger. He has the potential to be a rap mogul as he gets older. But, I am a Josh fan…he touches my heart.

I think there’s 2 competitions; 1st among the contestants, 2nd among the judges.  Guess it’s done for drama & ratings.  Not sure if all the judge’s critiques are swayed by this.  For instance, L.A. put down Drew doing the same thing each week, when his own contestant, Astro, does exactly that.
I think in the competition of the judges, Paula has an uphill battle.  Tough for viewers to connect with a group over individuals.  I think Paula has done the best job mentoring her contestants. I think it was smart to have Lakota’s individual names appear while they sang to help the viewers connect w/ them individually.  Smart too for Paula to mention that they could have a niche filling a void in the music world that Dixie Chix left.
As I write this, I know the results.  I predicted Stacie would go home.  I was surprised that Astro was in the bottom although now that I know what I know now, his ‘tude is terrible and I’m glad Simon called him out on it tonight.  Astro is not my thing & I don’t count hip hop singers as true singers.  Sorry.
I thought Josh did the best w/ the theme and he’s one of my favs.  However, not sure he’s current w/ his voice.  I feel X Factor is striving to promote a young, current pop star ala…Drew, Rachel and even Astro.  It may be important for X’s future to have a star come off this 1st season, much in they way Kelly Clarkson gave credibility to AI.  Different time nowadays, so a harder feat. I like Drew’s unique voice but thought her voice cracked last nigh, and I was waiting for the song to get more up tempo.  Like Marcus, kind of like a Stevie Wonder type, and a good entertainer, & nice guy. Feel he’s feeling under the radar now.  Think Melanie can sing her face off and will be in the final 3.  She too may have a does she have a current pop voice issue though.  Not sure but I really like her voice.  Didn’t love Rachel last night..did Rolling Stones too pop-py for my taste. But think she can sing, has a bubbly, bubble gum personality. Kept thinking while she was singing about Adam on AI singing the same song. THen hearing Simon love Rachel’s performance but struggle with Adam’s performance made me laugh to myself.   Sorry again, off track, lol! Chris is good, again not my style (see Astro).  But he’s current I guess.  I like Lakota too but don’t think they’re great and probably won’t make the final 5.
So I say Melanie, Josh in the finals.

Even though I do disagree about the singing part, I do appreciate your reply.  My children did not (and still don’t) listen to Rap.  However, my son still likes metal rock music. LOL!

    Good points, MJ.

Spenser, I am a Founding Member of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame & Museum and in contact with many of those employed in the upper ranks.  There was such a debate going on as to whether to even place Rappers on the election of Inductees ballot.  Remember a good portion of the election committee are/were older white men at the time the decision making was done.  The influence of gospel and jazz was cited.  The conclusion was, ” If they were to ignore a genre as wide-spread and influential as rap has been over the past 30 years, well then they may as well just close us shop.”

Yes, the tourist aspect was mentioned in regards to higher attendance of African Americans and youth.  So, while I agree with much of what you wrote, there were complaints regarding inductions.  Yet life goes on…

Yes, Eminem will be inducted the first time he is placed on the ballot. I realize this is a late reply to the discussion.  I do appreciate your points of view.

Josh and Melanie are both good singers but both are not current and lack charisma.  Should either win it would be a black eye to XFactor USA IMO.  Neither will sell well and XFactor will be like idol, unable to get a true Star as a winner.

Like him or hate him Astro is current, marketable and he has mad lyric skills.  This kid is a Jay-Z- Emimen hybrid.

Drew has a voice like no other.  No one sounds like Drew, has her phrasing, with those little catches in her voice that are so moving.  She could hit big with the right songs.

Rachel is just a star.  records, Disney Channel, Sitcom, I can see this kid doing it all.  Simon does need to let Rachel pick her own songs.  When Rachel picks her songs she slays.  No one in the competition has this young girls, sparkle, charisma or talent.

If Astro-Drew or Rachel do not win huge huge fail for XFACTOR.

  • KritterNotMe

Linkin Park combines both Rock and Rap in there songs.  They are huge! Just saying!  So I concur, rap has its place in the Rock Hall of fame.

Well, first of all Kariann, that is EXTREMELY cool that you are a founding member of the R&RHOF.  I am rather envious :).

I’m not surprised there was much resistance from the “old white dudes” LOL. I would expect nothing less.  My husband’s a white dude in his 40′s who pretty much thinks no new music has been created since AC/DC’s heyday.

And, yay for Eminem!  I’m a white, stay-at-home mom from the ‘burbs and I think he’s a genius.  I hope the members of the Hall know that these artists do not only appeal to young people.

The other day I was having a discussion with a bunch of my work-out buddies about our ipod, work-out playlists (all 40 ish moms who send their kids to the same Catholic school my kids go to).  And, at least 3 of us were in agreement that the only way we could finish the last 10 minutes was with Eminem aggressively swearing at us :).

  • KritterNotMe

I thought Chris and Stacy would be B2.  They IMO deserved to be B2.
