Emblem3 is so hot. I can’t. Aah. And Reed is a cutie. But I’ll wait 5 or 6 years though

I’m sorry, but I can’t STAND Emblem 3. They sang an okay song but none of them are very good and they just come off as SO DOUCHEY. However, they will probably win since for some reason females find them attractive and they’re on Simon’s team. And we all know “Mr Nice Guy” will do ANYTHING to have a group win this year.

I thought it was a fantastic first show. So happy to see the Jillian audition on TV. As emotional as I expected.

  • jcabby

I’m still waiting for that “it” person. Last year, it was Melanie and Josh’s auditions that blew me away. I’m still waiting for that audition this season. Maybe it’ll come tomorrow. I still enjoyed the show.

Nice debut. I think Britney and Demi did great.

I was a little underwhelmed. It’s so weird how they put so much focus on Kaci FigNewton though

  • Listening

I’ve got to say this show was great it started off a tad slow as we just met the judges and set up, i’m like come on get to the music already. Then it was just one quip/joke after another I was rolling. I can only remember a few but I have this underlying feeling of positiveness left over. The stand out bits Simon talking to Demi about Niall, the guy outside checking out the beautiful ladies and then he’s eyeing up the person in the wedding outfit, person turns and he realizes it’s a cross dressing dude and curses. Another funny bit Simon saying I know this is gonna sound weird but you sung like you were dying to the girl who said she was a cross between Carrie and Adele. The montage of Britney turning people down and then we hear a voice over of someone saying Britney’s so meaannnnn. Simon saying to someone ” you sounded like a dog trying to lay an egg.” Every one came off really well but I kept thinking I love Simon he so funny. Oh yeah he told that boy to go buy himself a puppy to make himself happy after getting a no. The whole show just amused me.

Janelle Garcia had the best vocals and a good performer, and Jillian the most moving story you just wanted to root for her but to be honest her vocals suffered greatly b/c she was overly-emotional. Emblem 3 I’m most intrigued by they seem current. I like the mixture of rap they added into the music and they have great stage presence. It was kind of hard to hear them at times b/c the backing track( I think that’s the correct term) instruments got too loud. But what I did hear I was digging. They have great potential.

I’m really curious to see how X-factor did rating wise especially against the voice. In my opinion it was so much more entertaining then the last two episodes of the voice I saw.

Britney > Demi at least in this episode.
I think they wanted to prove Britney had it in her since she was attracting the eyeballs. Demi’s critiques werent as well thought out and my mom and I were laughing at her constantly agreeing with everyone trying to please them.
But idk Mj and the promos show she looks promising and she handled the last performance well so we’ll see. I just Brit Brit keeps up the good work!

Thanks so much, Stavros, for the thread, the polls, and the eventual recap. Can’t wait!  ;)

Now, onto business. The important discussion here is not so much about the contestants but about which reality singing competition is going to kick the other’s ass. IMO, XFactor soundly kicks The Voice into a corner called “Shows For Bored People.” As a bored person, I can attest to this. I will probably continue to watch The Voice (the boredom factor,) but it will have nothing to do with it being a better show. It’s not. XFactor has both the ultimate judges panel and the best producer interference, hands down. Tonight? I sobbbed. Real tears. My sinuses are now pure. Thank you, XFactor! Long may ye reign.

Yes, I hope Stavros continues his posting! At first I didn’t realize it wasn’t MJ lol. Too many shows happening all at once lol.

  • iluvai

Demi was my favorite girl judge, Simon was my favorite guy judge. I like Britney and LA a lot too.

  • iluvai

    luv your post.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

Yeah. I agree with Ronnie D. We’ve got too many shows. Not MJ’s fault. But, I think I’m sticking with XFactor this season. The Voice is a pleasant enough show, but not really note-worthy.

  • Nasstopher

    Favorite judge: Brit and Demi.
Favorite Contestant: Jennel .. Emblem 3 weren’t that bad, but they reminded me too much of Hot Chelle Rae.

After watching the first episode, I can easily say that it’s way more interesting than The Voice. Although I don’t think it’s fair that the people would have to pick a show to watch, but that’s The Voice’s producers’ choice. They bet on their show, and man are they gonna regret that decision!!

  • tomr

Very disappointed with this first show.  Britney looks terrible (bloated/on something).  The talent was mediocre.  The editing is nauseating.  Always amazes me that Britain’s XFactor always entertains me so much better.  The one bright spot= Demi.  She is a doll!

  • CB40

Jillian Jensen blew me away with her emotional rendition of Jessie J’s already emotional original “Who You Are”.

That moment between her and Demi was 100% authentic, and it really tugged at my heart strings the way Jillian was able to channel all of that pain and sing so well even while bawling on stage.

Also, I loved the documentary-style way this whole first episode was shot, no hosts needed!

  • lagom_lubot_si_mj

First episode definitely better than last year’s.  Demi and Brittney were surprisingly coherent LOL.

Unfortunately the talent in their premiere episode was underwhelming.  Even their “best” was kind of eh okay.  There were a lot more interesting singers from the first episode (and in the third episode) of The Voice this season.

Of course this becomes moot once we get to the live shows.  We shall see which show will produce a better set of contestants.  X-Factor’s set of talents last year was dismal so they have a LOT of room for improvement.

Hmmm….not a lot of comments on this thread….is anybody watching XF?
I’ve searched the entertainment sections and only MJ and Slezak have something about the XF.

  • CB40

Um, 158 comments in the other, “main” thread.

I was ENTERTAINED (as Randy Jackson used to say). Didn’t watch one minute of X Factor last year, but having a break from Simon, it was nice to see hm again. Found Demi & Britney engaging. Most of the contestants were decent. Thought the 3 white guy rappers(?) were unexpectedly fun. Knew they’d jump on Paige as Rihanna look-alike & the young kid as exact clone of what they perceive the  industry is looking for as Bieber ages up.

  • jpfan2

I’ve searched the entertainment sections and only MJ and Slezak have something about the XF.

The New York has a good review of the show today. For what it’s worth, the show was trending like crazy on twitter (which makes sense considering the fans Dani and Brit have). I think it should have decent ratings.

Eventually The Voice, XF and Idol will divide the pot and none will have great ratings.

  • chillj

I think dividing the pot will come sooner rather than later.  And two talent shows this fall could devastate the audience for Idol.  I still like Idol the best, but I won’t if they emulate X Factor.

fave judge: Demi, fave contestant: Janelle.
