X Factor: LeAnn Rimes Blames Carly Rose Sonenclar for “Drunk” performance (UPDATED)

An UPDATE from TMZ: LeAnn insists that she did NOT speak to TMZ. The website claims they spoke to her rep who released as statement to them. Hm: Via TMZ

But moments ago, Rimes posted a message on her Twitter page saying she has NOT given the media a quote — noting, “It’s a shame that gossip and lies are overshadowing the performance of Carly.”

She added, “It was an amazing opportunity to share this experience with Carly and I know I’ll be watching for her to win tonight.”

Sounds to us like LeAnn is backtracking HARD because she realized what she said and doesn’t want to sound like she’s dumping on a 13-year-old girl.

No she DID NOT! Yep, she did. Lee Ann Rimes blames Carly Rose Sonenclar for her “drunken” train wreck performance on last night’s X Factor. via TMZ

Really? The 13 year old did it? As for her claim that she was trying to help Carly–the young singer barely seemed to register to LeAnn. The former country star seemed pretty much off in her own world. What do you think? Via

LeAnn Rimes tells TMZ … she was NOT drunk when she performed on “X Factor” Wednesday night, contrary to LOTS of speculation.

LeAnn says she was in no way impaired, and any awkwardness was because “I was trying to help this 13-year-old girl who was having some trouble with the song.”

LeAnn believes Carly Rose Sonenclar was very nervous and had difficulty with some of the notes and she was doing her best to help her get through it.

LeAnn’s lawyer, Larry Stein, who spoke with LeAnn a few minutes ago, tells TMZ “LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl.”

LeAnn says she does not understand why people believe she was drunk. Stein has a theory: “There have been a lot of untrue things said by others and it feeds into this sort of thing.”

One mystery remains — we found out LeAnn made a plate of food backstage and spilled it everywhere. Stein told us he didn’t know anything about that, but LeAnn insists she was stone cold sober.

Wow, blaming a 13 year old for your problems?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

LMFAO! I love this trainwreck of a show!

  • http://twitter.com/toastyred Sara Traynor

Jaysus, just watching that performance for the first time.  It really is as bad people said.  I do not understand this duet at all.  Surely they could have gotten anyone else…   It’s not like Leann Rimes is *that* much of a legend right? (I’m not from USA, so this is from a European perspective).  I just don’t understand…

  • bridgette12

I don’t know what LeAnn’s problems are, but she needs help. It’s probably a combination of eating disorder/drugs/alcohol, that’s making her act kooky. If Eddie and her family care about her welfare and career, they need to have an intervention before it get’s any worse.

  • http://twitter.com/BobbiNJ Bobbi

There is no way that woman wasn’t high on something. I wasn’t sure she was going to make it through the song on her own two feet! LeAnn is a complete mess these days. I can’t fathom why they chose her to sing with this young girl. Total disaster!

  • Xentusk

Two words after rewatching the duet:

    Calamitous and Cacphonous

I didn’t realise it was this bad watching it live, I just noticed how gaunt Leann looked.  But after rewatching it….yeeesh :P

  • http://twitter.com/raya4 raya

Blaming a 13 year old is always a classy move from a supposed adult.

  • http://twitter.com/TarheelShari Sharon S.

Wow…how dare she.  Seriously.  But I can’t say I’m surprised…nothing that goes wrong is ever her fault, as far as she’s concerned.  She’d have been better off if she’d just admitted she wasn’t at her best, vocally, even if she didn’t elaborate on the reason.  Trying to pass off blame onto her duet partner – a young teenage girl, at that – makes her look a thousand times worse.

  • ellen8

I watched it again with the sound off and at the end Leann loses it.  Physically she melts onto Carly.   Carly handles it so well – almost like she was prepared for it – LOL !!   She certainly didn’t appear nervous and about those high notes – whaaaa?   I have read that Leann was ill – if she was on meds, that should have been what she blamed, not Carly !!

  • breakdown

Yea, I couldn’t figure out why LeAnn was being given the airtime to begin with.

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

This makes me so sad…when Leann was 13, she was phenomenal.  She was so good…and now she’s a poster child for why children perhaps shouldn’t be in this business.

Poor Carly Rose–this wasn’t fair.  I doubt anyone knew, though.  Naive me, I’d actually bought that Leann’s rehab was for anxiety issues.

  • http://twitter.com/bignliddle BigNLiddle

Pretty sure Carly hit the high notes a helluva lot better than LeAnn did.  Did anyone see her E! news thing with Giulianna Ransic? It was so awkward.

  • elliegrll

Lee Ann acted like she didn’t even know that Carly was supposed to be on the stage.  She looked surprised to see her out there.  Having people sing with the contestants makes no sense, especially when the so called stars are just there to promote their new albums/songs or whatever.

  • tripp_ncwy

I think most saw this train wreck coming & Leann did not disappoint.

  • Listening

I noticed the lack of star power on the finale as well. I think the big time celebrities are shying away from the show or at least singing w/ the contestants b/c X-Factor is viewed as the joke of Reality Singing Competitions. It has gotten the lowest ratings consistently. Who’s coming to the results show One Direction yeah they’re big currently but they’re obligated to come b/c Simon is their boss.

  • guinness 416

Oh dear.  Rimes lost contact with relevance a long time ago and should stick to leaking those “candid” photos of herself and Hot Husband draping themselves across each other in various vacation spots at this point, especially if she’s got booze issues.  It’s beyond aggravating that a young kid is getting dragged into this too.  I hope for Carly’s sake that this blows over and she isn’t a footnote in entertainment history as “the child that had to sing with a plastered Lee Ann Rimes on that reality TV show”.  Welcome to showbiz kiddo!

  • mmb

Um wow.  I watched last night and LeAnn was off from the second she walked on stage and that had nothing to do with Carly….Carly looked horrified and confused by LeAnn…I immediately thought to myself that LeAnn must have been drunk or under the influence of something…if anything, it was 13 year old Carly who kept trying to steer the performance back on track….Even if it was Carly’s fault (and it clearly wasn’t), as the older, more established “star” take the high road…don’t blame it on a 13 year old kid

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Beth-Bowers/1357962780 Beth Bowers

Hubby and I were both shocked at how hard Leann looked.  She and Britney are the most-used looking 30-year-olds I’ve seen outside of a rehab house.

  • http://twitter.com/YaminaC YaminaC

Carly Rose – let this be a lesson unto you.  Child stars generally do not handle adulthood gracefully.

  • calliebeckett

It seems they’re running towards The Voice and Idol.

  • vdawg

LeAnn always blames everything that goes wrong on someone else.  I can’t believe how awful the X-Factor has been.  I hope Idol is not this bad.

  • chillj

I agree.  Neither of them retains a trace of youth; it is very sad.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CHZSJKJQRO5OEV7XUDSORCRJAI anonoymous

Wow, and I thought she couldn’t get any lower by breaking up a family.  Lee Ann Rimes, you’ve officially lost my respect. Carly gave that duet her best effort,  but you on the other hand, did not, regardless of excuses you try to manufacture. Blaming a 13-year old who you praised last night. That’s low.

Simon, here’s a piece of advice: Think a little harder when it comes to picking these duets. Don’t pick someone just because they have a single coming out. Act like your the executive whose sold millions of records and use your brain.

  • milwlovesadam

I saw Lee Anne on Leno or Letterman the other night, she was a train wreck of emotions and seemed “lost” in all her scandals and therapy terminology from her recent stint in rehab. She had very evasive answers about why she went to rehab, because she went voluntarily and said she needed to “find herself” or some silly reason. And dwelled on all the scandal of her affair and divorce. She was a train wreck.

I would have a lot more respect for her if she just came out and said that she has substance abuse issues or an eating disorder or is bipolar. There is clearly something wrong, and her publicist should pull her off the air until she is doing better. IMHO.

But, to blame a child for her own bad behavior is just not right. Lee Ann should be more sensitive. She was a child star herself.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/2GSMAIVVJS4KFW5L3XHBUO46DA LUCIE

Did they asked LeAnn to perform because she started around the same age as Carly is now? But so not fair to blame a child for her meltdown.

That would be a bummer if Carly loses because of that performance.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

what a immature homewrecker and has been!

  • DB987

Goodlord its even worse then I thought from start to finish. Carly didn’t look confortable on her own and Leann made it worse  on the duet part which sounded like they were singing two different songs.
I have to wonder if Carly even knew who she was she is only 13 and nor into country music as far ass it appears.  Thats the biggest  bus Simon has ever used.
So sad for Leann what a waste of talent/life.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“She’d have been better off if she’d just admitted she wasn’t at her
best, vocally, even if she didn’t elaborate on the reason.  Trying to

There’s no way that something wasn’t up with Leann last night, and I agree that just admitting that she wasn’t at her best would have been the way to handle the criticism. It was so weird how Leann practically paid no attention to Carly, and trying to imply that Carly needed help is just lame. It would be best if Leann stepped away from public appearances for a while until she gets her act together.

  • kmd23

If LeeAnn does drink I would not blame her. That ex wife of Eddie’s, Brandi G., is just a nightmare to deal with. If I were LeeAnn I would divorce Eddie just to get rid of Brandi. I don’t even watch BH Housewives anymore because of her. Not a big  LeeAnn fan but if Carly loses (and I think she will to Tate) it had nothing to do with Leann. It is Tate’s popularity with country fans.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/PVEFG2TOUIXSROKUSO2O2DOWWE Taylor

Lee Ann was high, drunk or a combination of both. Kudos to Carly for holding it together and getting through the song. At the young age of 13, Carly kept things from falling apart and made it look like everything was going as planned.  Carly showed some impressive stage instincts and professionalism in this situation that most performers don’t come close to having at her age.

Carly gets a gold star for her vocals and her acting skills that she used during the song and after the performance.

Shame on the adult in this situation for letting this young girl down during a performance that could possibly lead to a record contract worth millions of dollars.

  • poipugirl

F* You, Lee Ann, for blaming a 13 year old girl for your problems.  I felt so sorry for Carly!  I couldn’t watch it while it was airing.

I hope Simon sticks up for Carly and puts Lee Ann in her place (since Britney can’t really do it – calling the kettle black and all..)  But then again, Simon hired Lee Ann?  Hope she gets some help and apologizes.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I said yesterday Carly should duet with Britney. If Carly had sung with Britney, it would have been less embarrassing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jeanna-Gale/100002124188389 Jeanna Gale

She was not performing right because of a 13 yr old girl on stage?  Uhm, isn’t Leann supposed to be a professional whose been performing since she was 13? As a professional, she was supposed to rise above any “awkwardness” on stage.  Even in a concert if a drunk crashes the stage, the singer should be able to rise above it. I’ve never been a fan of Leann after Blue came out. But this performance was a disaster. Leann looked drunk/high and couldn’t stand properly or enunciate her words (when she barely remembered them). And it appeared that Leann was trying to upstage her duet partner instead of blending their voices. And Leann has the gall to blame a 13 yr old girl who sang better than her? Shame on her!!
PS: This originally was Trisha Yearwood’s song and the Xfactor should’ve asked her to sing this song, not Leann.

TMZ:  LEANN RIMES Flip-Flopping on ‘X Factor’ Performance

  • spycig

Wow and I didn’t think Leanne could sink any lower… Carly’s track record speaks for itself – she doesn’t have trouble hitting high or difficult notes!

  • fuzzywuzzy

So now Leann claims that the previous quote on TMZ was a “lie”? Man, she’s just digging herself a deeper hole and really needs to get her shit together.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

Now she’s also blaming the rep.? lol. A rep exists to speak representing someone. What he says is what LeAnn says.

  • kmd23

I would have loved to see Carly perform with Britney but I doubt Britney could actually sing. Britney would  have had to lip synch her way through it. That is why they did not have Britney sing with Carly. I would have liked to have seen that train wreck of a  performance. lol. It was a very odd choice to pair Carly with LeAnn to begin with but Britney would have been worse.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_CHZSJKJQRO5OEV7XUDSORCRJAI anonoymous

She proved that in “Hallelujah”. Lee Ann, quit making excuses.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It depends on who this “rep” is. If it’s LeAnn’s publicist, then who knows how accurate someone like that would be? lol

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

Even before Le Ann comes in I think Carly was struggling with the song, that song was truly not suitable for her voice.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1818332757 Seth McHale

It’s true. Back when that song released, both Trisha Yearwood and Leann admitted the song was vocally challenging. There were plenty of other songs that Leann has done, I am surprised they chose this one.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I’m not sure, but apparently it was her lawyer. So I guess either he’s the worse lawyer in the world or she really meant it.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Li-Wright/100001622678180 Li Wright

Leann Rimes is 30 yrs old?  Get out!  No way!

  • Chris

Her hubby’s ex accused her of being on diet drugs. I wonder if she is doing the typical celebrity lie. She’s not on alcohol, but a cocktail of pills.

Either way, big miss for LeAnn. She will probably just fade to black after this debacle.

  • jsnj

It’s such a shame she had such a poor performance on the xfactor since it’s the largest audience she has sung for in awhile. I think she is one of the better singers out there. I’ve never heard her sound that spastic before. Just a few days ago she sounded lovely on the tonight show(Link below). I don’t know what the hell happened to her on the xfactor. But I had the same reaction others did as I was watching wondering WTF.

  • roarpen

That was just bad. I remember when LeeAnn was that age and was an ambitious teen singer from Centralia, Wa. The local news did a show about her. She was adorable and energetic – and had that big voice. She practiced for hours in front of the mirror. Anyway, fast forward and she is just another child star who train wrecked as an adult. I hope she gets it together, but I doubt she will. Too bad.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I was also disappointed.  LeAnn needs to go on another show to redeem herself.

  • Mariyas

Carly was not hitting the right notes at the start herself. I also watched LeAnn in Leno and she was solid good in her singing then. I was also rooting for 5th Harmony for a surprise win. But I know Tate would win and I’m happy he did for he deceives it.
I remember his daughter kidding him at the start of the show, “Don’t come back home without the 5 million!”

  • steph6449

I like LeAnn as a singer despite her personal issues, and am kind of rooting for her to make a decent comeback. Not sure this particular episode was that helpful.

She does appear to be acting and singing strangely. But I can’t say the young girl’s vocals are that good either.

  • Kejalu
  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

I used to really like LeeAnn!  What the heck has happened to her?  Carly was having trouble with notes ummm no LeeAnn that was you.  You couldn’t find a pitch to stay on, you were so off a lesser singer than Carly would have been pulled off but she sounded pretty good considering her duet partner was caterwailing, stumbling and all in all making an absolute spectacle of herself.

    Take ownership LeeAnn.

Shut the hell up drunk bitch, Carly did amazing, it was you who was slurring on you damn words.
