First off, I think this guy is in on the joke, as are the X Factor producers. Can you say set-up? Way to stick a codpiece in your pants for “comic” effect dude.

Second, the only reason I find this audition from Saturday night’s X Factor episode remotely interesting is to note that our friends from across the pond in the UK seem way less uptight about sexual humor than we Americans.

Not only would something like this never appear on American Idol in a million years, it might have a tough time getting past the censors of American late night TV shows…

In case you didn’t know, the audition rounds of Simon Cowell’s UK competition show, X Factor began last Saturday. Check out a couple of the auditions HERE and HERE.

Correction: I’m being told this audition wasn’t part of the X Factor episode that airs on the main ITV1 channel, but on a show which airs on, ITV2 right after the main show on ITV1. It’s akin to our American Idol Extra, but with a comic emphasis.

    Yup. Soooo true!

This isn’t technically the X factor, it’s the Xtra factor, which shows on ITV2 not ITV1. It’s ostensibly a comedic look at what we didn’t see on XF.

Watching this the first time, when Dermot asked the man’s daughter “Is that his willie?” I fell off the sofa laughing.

I thought some parts were really funny some not so much. Surely it was a setup by the producers but I’m not entirely sure the judges knew. The women and not Simon acted really surprised.

  • AdoK

Well, we had XXX&XXL Factor for a while. Life goes on.

  • BootStar

Jeebus, mj, you think that guy paid money for that thing? I think it was the real deal. It was too icky to have been “faux.”

I cannot believe they did those close-ups, though. That was beyond the pale. His poor daughters.

  • luvadamlambert

Haha the only reason I’m enjoying x factor is for the brilliant British accents;)

Yeah .. I was going to say that I didn’t see THAT when I watched the show on Saturday .. but then I didn’t switch over for the Xtra Factor …lol

Like Sunn says . it’s not the actual X Factor episode that airs on the main ITV1 channel. The Xtra Factor is a follow on show which airs on a ITV partner channel, ITV2 straight after the main show on ITV1 .. and it usually doesn’t get half as big an audience as the main show. It’s primarily a show of the odd auditions where they take the mickey out of them and often do skits on the “more unusual” contestants.

As to whether what he has in his trousers is real and how much of the whole thing was stage managed I don’t know, but like you Sunm I burst out laughing when Dermot asked the daughter “Is that his willie?”

    I have a massive crush on Dermot O’Leary …lol

  • beckysspam

LOL. I also thought the “Is that his willie?” part was really funny.

Also, Simon looks so much less bored with being a judge on this show than he did on Idol this past season from these clips I’m seeing (for me, for you).

I am the person that uploaded the video used on this post, So I thank you very much!

I put this video on pretty much as soon as it was aired, because I recorded the show! It has had tons of views since!

yeah I think he’s great with the contestants .. especially on the live shows .. plus I thnk Holly’s just the right person for the Xtra factor .. far better than Fearne Cotton .. didn’t like her at all.

  • abbysee

Oh gawd…..talk about a party in his pants! Yeah, this would not pass muster on tv in the US. They would have a blur covering his crotch for sure. I think I might have preferred that actually, lol. Ewww!

  • IdolThoughts

    His poor daughters. That’s nasty!!!

    LMAO!

    I love Cheryl Cole.

  • karenw

I’m laughing at the lyrics of the song he’s singing

“I was walking beside the sea, when a beautiful angel noticed me”

… Well no wonder she did with that in his pants …lol

… the judges script is straight out of one of the old “Carry On” movies …..lol

  • anthrogeek

OK, so what’s the big deal? He’d never performed publicly before and he was a bit over-excited, so I’m not surprised it never quite reached a climax.

Oh, yeah, his song sucked, too.

  • SparklesATL

I don’t think codpiece is the word you were looking for. A codpiece is a covering to protect the family jewels. I think tube sock is more appropriate.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/RemusL/ RemusL

While the entire thing may have been a setup for laughs, I have seen some unfortunate men with huge inguinal hernias that looked much the same. Laughing at someone with a medical condition would be cruel, so I hope it really was his willie or tube socks.
