That fickle Simon Cowell! The X Factor Boot camp was supposed to be taped in front of a live audience, but the audience was cancelled at the last minute, reports the Miami Herald.

Rabid fans hoping to get a glimpse of pop stars-turned-judges Demi Lovato and Britney Spears at the two X Factor tapings at the Fillmore Miami Beach were plum out of luck Thursday. One was set for 1 p.m., the other 5:45 p.m.; both were a wash.

For unknown reasons as of press time, producers decided to nix the live-audience feature early Thursday morning and sent an email notification out to ticket holders at 2 a.m., long after most Web surfers had gone to bed.

Is Simon trying to head of spoilers? Or does he just feel like shaking things up? Some fans, particularly those coming from out of town were none too pleased.

Fan, Dianne Prokos, groused: “I just got home after driving to Miami Beach for the recording of the Boot camp to be informed that they decided not to have a live audience. I never received any email from them and this is not right. There were people there that came from Brazil and Colorado and they were p—ed. All you Miami fans let’s not support the X Factor because they have shown that they do not care about us to pull something like this.”

How did they not know? I read it was canceled yesterday on BreatheHeavy. Those Britney fans must be on top of things.

what is the XF bootcamp? Is that the same as auditions in front of a live audience?

Live audience is for the final portion of solo performances before they pick the Top 8 in each category. The other portion of bootcamp usually had no audience.

The company that is contracted to do the audience ticketing, is very upfront about nothing being guaranteed. They strongly discourage anybody who is more than 200 miles from the show location. And, they overbook these shows to insure a full house. Those who traveled more than a few hours, did so with no insurance that they would even be seated if it did have an audience.

Well he did say the 2nd season would be “way more controversial” ;)

Why in the world would anyone travel from Brazil to watch a boot camp for a reality tv show in Florida.  I know some people are fans of Britney and Demi, but seriously?  That just screams cray cray to me.

Yup, anyone who has ever done the studio audience thing knows that getting in is NOT guaranteed.  Not the smartest thing to travel long distances on the off chance you might get in.
