Maybe we can just have a Top 13 all season, and then at the end someone just wins? Would that be more interesting? Or do you just want to see people go home. Join me tonight!

80′s Night… causes Mario to awkwardly dance on stage.

Someone is going home at the top of the show. I wonder if they’ll get to sing for their life, with the judges deciding.

The Act Eliminated: CARLOS GUEVERA
I had a feeling.

He says it was the best experience of his life. Paulina calls him a champion. I think she’s not quite sure what that word means…

1) Lillie McCloud- Ain’t Nobody
Lillie discusses her past recording history. Lillie has worked SO hard for this. Lillie takes her ear piece out early on, which might be why the beginning was mediocre. They’ve thrown some light choreography at her this week, and given her an uptempo song. It’s tough to make Lillie seem relevant when the themes are so awful every week. This is a pop star song that requires little vocal ability. It’s hard for Lillie to impress with this song choice, but I guess the idea was to make her seem more youthful. In a few parts, Lillie sings her face off. I won’t be downloading this, but it was an alright performance. It allowed Lillie to do something different at least. Simon says she’s a naughty little thing. Simon likes that she made an attempt to be current. Simon asks Lillie if she thinks she can win. Lillie says she’s a chameleon. Lillie keeps talking over Mario. LOL.

My Grade: B- (Not really a song that showed off her vocals, but it did make her seem a bit more relevant)

2) Carlito Olivero- Rhythm Is Gonna Get You
Carlito’s dad is here with him this week. His dad looks really young. Carlito reminds me a lot of Stefano from Idol. I thin Carlito is probably more of what X-Factor is looking for, as he might actually be able to be a pop star if paired with the right producer. He handles choreography well, his voice fits this rather easy song. I don’t like when he closes his eyes on stage (which he does a lot). I thought it was an easy song performed well (like Lillie). Again, I don’t know who would download this? Kelly says he’s not getting lost as a performer. Demi says she was paying more attention to the dancers. She says it wasn’t for her. Simon says Carlito needs to take more control of what he’s singing. Simon doesn’t think Carlito is going to survive this week. Paulina says he was showing fear. When your judge doesn’t give you good remarks, you know you’re screwed.

MY GRADE: B- (basically, the same as Lillie. Easy song, not a strong vocal song, that was performed adequately)

To vote for Carlito:

3) Rion Paige- We Belong
Rion talks about the Spice Girls like they were from the 80′s. Demi isn’t old enough to be a specialist on the 80′s either. LOL at that dress. I do think it’s good that Demi found her a song that allows Rion to sing. I think Rion is the weakest vocalist (solo) in the competition, so it’s still not my favorite. It gets really rough in the middle for a few measures. She gets back in it. I like this better than last weeks song choice, even with that hiccup. I think this song fits her well. Kelly says it started a little rough, but it soared at the end. Paulina loves how Rion feels the music. Simon liked last week, and likes that Rion performs 110%. Simon thinks she can sing the phonebook, but needs to have more input in picking the right songs. Demi says Rion had a big say in song choice. Rion says they all agreed on the song. Rion would have had a hard time picking the perfect song for her, with her limited knowledge of the 80′s.

MY GRADE: B- (Some vocal hiccups, but an improvement upon last week)

To vote for Rion Paige:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.

4) Sweet Suspense- Hey Mickey
I think this was a great song choice for them. It’s not meant to have a lot of harmony, which is good for them. These girls look ready to be a pop act. After three mixed performances, this is a nice wake up call. When Sweet Suspense was in the Top 16, I was sure I was going to hate them. I actually think they have what it takes to make it to the finale. They’ve improved each week, and much faster than Fifth Harmony. I also think the production on this number was surprisingly appropriate. I love the hearts with the Sweet Suspense on them. That should be their logo. Kelly says they weren’t in a rhythm as a group, and Kelly didn’t think the vocals were super tight (it was Hey Mickey, come on now). Paulina says they need to look at each other more. Demi says her favorite part was the fire. Demi says Simon isn’t working on them with their stage presence and calls it low energy. Simon says it was their best performance so far (I agree). Demi says they are no Fifth Harmony. Simon says it was the best performance of the night, and they worked and sounded like a group.

My Grade: A-

5) Tim Olstad- Against All Odds
The kiss of death song, for one of the weakest contestants. Tim is handing out with Sarah Hyland from Modern Family. For someone who wants to seem less like a funeral director, he really doesn’t know how to pick the right song to show that. There’s some girl roaming around on stage. I suppose they couldn’t figure out how to stage this song. The thing about Tim is that he is actually a good singer. He’s not quite in the pocket of the song though. This is one of the best renditions of this really over done song I can remember. Sarah Hyland is in the audience cheering him on. Kelly says it fell flat for her this week. No stage presence. Demi would send him home, says he isn’t growing. He has no X-Factor. Simon says he was distracted by the weird dancer. Simon thinks he needs to sing out of his comfort zone.

MY GRADE: C+ (Boring song, good vocal, no stage presence)

To vote for Tim Olstad:

6) Khaya Cohen- Borderline
Demi says this could be Khaya’s last performance. That’s doubtful, considering everything we’ve seen so far tonight. This is kind of a cool arrangement, and I think it sounds more current than what we’ve heard tonight. Khaya gets right up in Simon’s face. She’s got stage presence for days. It’s not as affected as My Girl, she’s found her balance. I like her. Khaya can sing her face off, and doesn’t need to affect anything. For 80′s week, this is a home run. I think she’s done everything she needed to this week. best performance of the night. Demi stands for her. Kelly tells Khaya that she’s ready for “this whole music thing”. Paulina says Khaya is singing better than ever. Simon thinks she’s showing personality and confidence. Simon thinks she’s getting better and better. Great song choice. Best performance so far. Demi says she killed it.

MY GRADE: A (Her best performance to date)

To vote for Khaya:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.
You can also use the X-Factor USA app (voting is counted alongside the online voting)

I don’t know what’s happening in the comments. If you hate all the performances, why are you still watching X-Factor? To be fair, I’m grading these performers within the parameters. I know they have to choose 80′s songs, and I’m not going to punish them in my grading for choosing old songs. This is a terrible theme, but some of them are trying to make the best of it.

7) Restless Road- Footloose
I don’t know why they aren’t doing a country song. There were country artists in the 80′s. Simon says we will see a different side of Restless Road tonight. I don’t think their song choices are going to sell them to Nashville. Tate Stevens stayed country for most of the competition, and he still didn’t do well. I think Simon is hoping that tweens will support them enough that they won’t need Nashville. These guys aren’t great solo singers, and it shows every time they break off into their own verses. This is a super easy song to sing. It’s hard to grade this, because I’m not sure what the point of this was. Vocally, they had some rough spots in the solo. Most of the song was on pitch though. I don’t think this song helped them get new fans. Kelly will be front row at their concert. Paulina loved it. Demi says they grow every week. Demi says Colton is stealing the show and has the X-Factor. Simon says they work harder than anyone else, and has a good feeling. I think it was better than last week, ultimately.

MY GRADE: B- (Was that really the best song choice? Bad solos)

To vote for Restless Road:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.
You can also use the X-Factor USA app (voting is counted alongside the online voting)
You can text 10 to 21523
You can call 1-855-THE XF 10 (lines open only for two hours)
You can also vote using SHAZAM!

8) Rachel Potter- Alone
This is another overdone song. Probably a good song choice for Rachel, since people seem to think Country didn’t start as a genre until the 90′s. All three country acts didn’t choose a country song this week. This staging is a bit theatrical for me. Rachel has a tendency to overact while singing, but the vocals are fantastic. That scream though. It started off pitch. Rachel should avoid screaming. She can’t seem to do it on pitch. Still, one of my favorite performances of the night. Paulina says she’s a great singer. She loved the sass. Demi says she’s proud, and thinks Rachel can win. Simon says thank God she had a good song this week. Simon is worried about what kind of artist she wants to be. Kelly says no one in Simon’s category can sing like her.

MY GRADE: A- (Great vocal, one hiccup)

To vote for Rachel:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.

You can call 1-855-THE XF 09 (lines open only for two hours)
You can also vote using Shazam.

9) Ellona Santiago-I Wanna Dance With Somebody
Cool arrangement. They’ve tried to update it a bit. Ellona looks like a pop star, and performs like one. She tripped and fell, but really came out of it well. It didn’t mess up her vocals. Speaking of, her vocals are a little shaky when she’s doing too much choreography. She’s covering more of the stage, I think, than anyone else tonight. A few small pitch issues throughout, but a contemporary arrangement and the fact that she did sing her face off the rest of the time make up for that. Not the best of the night, but definitely one of the better ones. Kelly thinks she’s incredible, but thought the beginning was rough. Paulina loves that Ellona is a perfectionist. Simon thought the first 2/3rds was too erratic and crazy, but loved the last 30 seconds. Simon would like to see her do something with less choreography. Demi says if she had a penny for every time she slipped on stage, she’d be a millionaire. She is a millionaire, so she corrects herself to say “I’d have a million dollars”. LOL. Ellona says she performs every time like it’s her last time performing.

MY GRADE: B+ (A few vocal hiccups, a little trip, but a really solid vocal overall)

You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.
You can also use the X-Factor USA app (voting is counted alongside the online voting)

They found a pic of Simon in the 80′s, when he had ARMS.

10) Josh Levi- Straight Up
I’m worried about this song choice. Unless Josh Levi is doing Andrew Garcia’s arrangement. Josh is worried because the last time he sang and danced, he went home. I thought he had a really good comeback last week, so he just needs to ride that. The beginning has some weak vocals. He works into it though, fairly quickly. Josh is probably the best dancer in the competition, and does the most choreography when he does it. His vocals also hold up better more than Ellona’s when he’s dancing. I actually really liked this. He looks like a pop star. I think that’s important. Kelly says that Josh Levi has arrived. Kelly says he needs to get out of his head. Demi says his potential is incredible. Simon says he was listening to a future star. Simon wishes he didn’t have any backup dancers, because he didn’t need them. He says Josh is one to watch. Paulina says he delivered every single note.

MY GRADE: A (Josh is a pop star)

To vote for Josh:

11) Jeff Gutt- I Just Died In Your Arm Tonight
Jeff should absolutely SLAY 80′s week. Jeff says he has a dollar in his bank account. Jeff is battling insomnia. This song was basically written for Jeff. Oddly enough, he has a few vocal hiccups in the middle, going flat. This song is so repetitive, he can’t do much with it other than sing his face off. No back up dancers. Solid performance. Paulina loved it and understands his thing. Demi says he’s one of her favorites. Demi is happy that Jeff is representing rock. Simon’s problem thinks it’s a little “I wanna be a rockstar”, and wants to hear him do a song outside of the genre that makes him an original. Simon calls him Spinal Tap. Kelly says he’s not afraid of work.

MY GRADE: B+ (Solid vocal, some problems, just alright performance)

To vote for Jeff Gutt:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.
You can also use the X-Factor USA app (voting is counted alongside the online voting)
You can text 5 to 21523
You can call 1-855-THE XF 05 (lines open only for two hours)
You can also vote using SHAZAM

12) Alex and Sierra- Addicted To Love
Sierra starts the song acapella. They’re doing their own rendition of the song. This is cool. I’d buy this on Itunes. I can’t believe these two have turned into my favorite act in the competition. They’re the only ones that are defined clearly as current recording artists. I loved that. That was really cool. Paulina loves them, and calls them bohemian and vintage. Demi thinks their setup could have been better, and they looked uncomfortable. Simon says they don’t like to do the same thing every week. Simon thinks they lost the melody. Simon says it wasn’t as good as it should have been.

My Grade: A+

To vote for Alex and Sierra:
You can vote online at THEXFACTORUSA.COM until 10AM PT THURSDAY, and you can vote up to 50 TIMES.
You can also use the X-Factor USA app (voting is counted alongside the online voting)

Mario asks the judges who the highlight of the evening was. All of the girls hype their own acts, but Simon stays honest and says Josh Levi.

My personal favorite right now is Alex and Sierra, I don’t know why they got depimped. Josh is growing on me. I feel like he’s a different act since they brought him back. Khaya, Rachel, and Sweet Suspense have all grown on me. I think Ellona is one great performance away from being a contender. The rest of them… I’m not sure they can make the Top 5. Even Restless Road, which Simon hypes endlessly. He isn’t picking the right songs for them.

Alex and Sierra: A+
Khaya Cohen: A
Josh Levi: A
Rachel Potter: A-
Sweet Suspense: A-
Ellona Santiago: B+
Jeff Gutt: B+
Lillie McCloud: B-
Rion Paige: B-
Carlito Olivero: B-
Restless Road: B-
Tim Olstad: C+

Should Be Bottom 3: Tim Olstad, Restless Road, Carlito Olivero
Will Be Bottom 3: Tim Olstad, Carlito Olivero, Rion Paige

I loved liveblogging with you guys. Join me tomorrow night. Same time. Same bat channel.

  • ajr86

I guess there’s no time for a sing off.

  • Garrett Clayman

Considering the XF is such a mess I assume they will be singing songs from the 1880s, right?

  • Derrick Johnson

Lillie looks like a poodle with that hair

  • Nedsdag

More like the 1780s. Bring on Mozart!

  • ajr86

America made the correct decision. Carlos wasn’t good on either night last week.

  • Derrick Johnson

not shocked at all saw it coming

  • Amy Beth

That pause was so pregnant, I expected someone to give birth.

  • ajr86

Lillie had a single before most of the other acts were even alive.

  • Garrett Clayman

Omg they’re Stacy Francising her. Pimp her amazingly then giving her songs and outfits that dont fit her so she get eliminated.

  • ajr86

Lillie is only good on the powerful ballads. This is not working.

  • Nedsdag

Kelly should have made Lillie sing her 1986 song.

  • Derrick Johnson

she looked uncomfortable and it looked cheesy and sounded karaoke.

  • ajr86

Lillies song felt endless. Couldnt wait for the mess to end.

  • ajr86

Ughhhhh! Demi looks like she’s trying to go for the Miley look. Don’t like the look at all.

  • Amy Beth

Dressing her in the clothes of her youth made her look older.

  • yaddabing

The production on this show is so messy.

Compare that to Tamera’s performance and it looks high budget compared to this.

  • carola99

I hate this show´s production. It´s so cheesy. Really X Factor is a mess.
No wonder the ratings are so low..

  • carola99

That´what they did with Carlos Guevara. PAtronizing him to use his backstory.

  • carla

I liked Lillie. A bit weak start but it got better.

  • carla

    everything looks cheap.

  • Garrett Clayman

but it was exactly what they did with Stacey praised her the entire time gave her the pimp spot standing O treatment on “Up To The Mountain” then had her open the show with “Queen of the Night” and totally panned her. At least they didnt insult Lillie for no reason

  • carola99

    Exactly..

  • mcwwin85

lord have mercy GET THE HOOK

  • carola99

Why they just give the prize to Simon´s proteges Restless Road and get this show over with? Why bother anymore?

  • carla

    this isn’t good.

  • Sassycatz

Can Simon be any more condescending? The woman, who’s been working her butt off for years as an artist, is a “naughty little thing?” (Yes, I watched the show for 10 minutes.)

  • Amy Beth

Simon wants him to have gravitas? What!

  • nycguy

It feels like the performances are longer this week. So that’s already an improvement.

  • shell29

Carlito seems nice enough but I agree with the criticism. I just think that he (along with the other ‘boys’) are doomed with Paulina for a mentor. I don’t know why she picked that song for him.

  • Connie

Am I the only one that really dislikes all the back stories and practice sessions. I don’t care, I only want to hear them sing. Not much will change my mind if they are not good.

  • carla

Rion is singing the same song for the 4th time.

  • nycguy

They really need to lay off Carlito. His performance was just fine. If the dancers overshadowed the singing maybe it’s because there were too many of them.

  • carla

With these girls I never know who’s singing, when it’s them, when it’s the backup voice or tracks. It’s I Love It all over again.

  • lola

Agree, Wasn’t looking, thought it was the I Love It girls.

  • Amy Beth

    Those outfits, no words.

  • yaddabing

    Simon has officially lost it.

  • shell29

Simon stop. That was not even close to being their best performance.

  • Jake W.

I gave up. You guys are on your own, lol.

  • scoobynacks

Rion’s pitch was terrible. She was constantly flat. How did they not comment on that? Is it because it sounded better live? She’s cute as a button, but I spent her performance cringing.

  • carla

Don’t give up until tomorrow. 5H are performing tomorrow. lol

  • mcwwin85

    Against All Odds???? Adios Tim

  • Jake W.

I’ll watch a youtube version of it. I just can’t sit through these contestants.

  • shell29

Against All Odds…how did I know he would choose this one? So predictable.

  • scoobynacks

Oh dear, Paulina’s so useless they’ve brought in Sarah Hyland to give vocal advice?

  • Lexie O’Neill

I can’t believe Simon called his fellow judges witches…ugh.

  • lola

    Tim is glam! :-)

  • carla

Not this guy and his lack of any presence.

  • lola

Lady with no pants looked she was going to vomit!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Oh no! “Against All Odds”? lmao! I don’t think that this staging is working. Tim’s phrasing isn’t good. Very cheesy.

  • yaddabing

The woman dancing is more interesting.

And I don’t really understand why she is on stage.

  • carola99

Against all Odds? Kill me now. Seriously I think is time for Tim to go now..

  • shell29

    LOL…exactly.

  • scoobynacks

This is like an interperative dance.

  • lola

Tim looks like the dad with the 20 children on TLC

  • shell29

That was horrible. Like the very worst karaoke ever. Tim, please follow Carlos out the door.

  • Eric Ascher

“I don’t know if you were aware or not” OMFG LOL

  • fuzzywuzzy

Is anyone else finding the staging and production of these performances way OTT and very cheesy?

  • teekee

    I understand. lol.

  • carola99

Yeah, it´s like they are killing the show even more. Ugh..

  • shell29

Most definitely, even by X Factor standards. I’m guessing they decided to amp up the cheese factor for the 80′s theme?

  • teekee

    Yes.

  • Guest

Ugh, this show is giving me a headache. Let me turn off the t.v. & lie down for a while… :P

  • yaddabing

    oh dear

  • lola

Oh dear, she is flat in spots.

  • Connie

Underwear girl needs to go. They must be pushing these kids that the nerves are coming out. No one has been any good tonight yet.

  • carola99

OMG even Khaya is terrible. This is horrible!

  • carola99

Khaya´s voice is definitely not for a Madonna song.

  • shell29

Normally I love Khaya but this isn’t good. She’s trying way too hard. It’s a bit of a mess.

  • Eric Ascher

I don’t know the song, but until the end I thought that was pretty great.

  • lola

This is embarrassingly awful. There are no stars on this show. Not even close. Worse song choice ever.

  • ItsWessles

This is the first time I’ve ever enjoyed Khaya! I still think she comes off as a brat though.

  • Amy Beth

They focus on everything except the singing and then act all surprised it interferes with the vocals.

  • lola

What are these judges listening to? I don’t agree, Simon. Ms smug was terrible.

  • Nedsdag

Khaya a “star?” I think she sounded better than last week, but not by much.

  • Connie

Don’t think Madonna would agree (it’s not good). At least she is doing her own dancing.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Why are they overpraising these contestants? I thought that Rion’s pitch was all over the place and Khaya had a number of bum notes. It’s disappointing that these are the best contestants that they decided to cast. I can see why ratings have tanked.

  • dawnage01

Preach, Pastor Fuzzy, preach!!! #YesLawd :)

  • yaddabing

because they are all commercial!! and superstars!!

  • wordnerdarchie

Compare these people to Kelly, Carrie, Adam, Cook ….. (on & on & on). There’s no one (so far) even close.

  • yaddabing

    Whaa

I thought you were like XF’s #1 fan on here!

  • shell29

I think there are some obvious folks that shouldn’t be in the top 12, but I really think it’s this cheesy theme that’s to blame. Last Thursday when they chose their own ‘save me’ songs, it seemed like everyone performed much better. Even Rion impressed me and I don’t normally enjoy her performances.

  • lola

    You got that right!

  • yaddabing

Simon couldn’t even make it more obvious that he’s selling this band on the tween girls alone.

  • tufar

this whole show is an embarrassment. and not of riches either. the contestants are an embarrassment,
the judges are an embarrassment, the enforced and enhanced “screaming of the audience”, incredibly embarrassing. and then the
staging… oh the stagings of all these embarrassments… a veritable
cheese festival. :::sigh::: i can only laugh from afar and… weep for music and humanity.

  • carla

One of these guys is bad.

  • shell29

I really don’t enjoy hearing the bootleg Scotty in this group…I’d rather listen to the original.

  • Chris

First time watching XFactor this season… there is a Scotty McCreery knock off in Restless Road??? Oh my

  • Connie

I don’t remember seeing Daisy Dukes in the movie Footloose.

  • Derrick Johnson

That was kinda cheesy in a way but at the same time it really worked and i really enjoyed it

  • Amy Beth

Every single one of these acts would kill it at their high school talent show. But not a nationally televised TV show.

  • Sue tiedemann

I kind of enjoyed Restless Road.

  • Nedsdag

Of course, Rebecca is singing “Alone.”

  • Lexie O’Neill

Do these people not understand that country music existed in the 80s? That’s what the country acts should be doing, not all of these pop song makeovers, sort of. Need to establish yourself in the genre.

  • Darko_5

lol the fence the moves yikes

  • Derrick Johnson

Kelly i think is one of the best Judges on a reality singing competition

  • Nedsdag

Rachel was fine until that screechy note.

  • Chris

She’s a pretty girl but the chorus is screechy and those shorts are cutting at the wrong spot. Too much thigh is not flattering

  • shell29

Agreed…that note scared me! I wasn’t expecting that.

  • Nedsdag

To be fair, Blake Shelton did a remake of “Footloose.” This is what what Simon was going for.

  • Listening

Rion had the first good vocal of te night. It was interesting at times it felt a little country-ish but it still worked. I liked her tone. It was nothing great but it was easily better than the earlier performers.

  • shell29

I Wanna Dance With Somebody? Hmmm….

  • Dana Rimons

Did Demi Lovato just say Rachel Potter is better than Carrie Underwood in that critique when Rachel said that Carrie sang it?

    Because if she did… ummmm Demi…. -_____-

  • Amy Beth

Simon hates country music. Which makes it pretty tough to push for his country group. So if they can sing faux country, that’s fine with him.

  • Nedsdag

Jessica Sanchez’s vocals + Ellona Santiago’s stage presence = potential star.

  • yaddabing

IA. I said way back she’d be good for Idol.

  • yaddabing

    This mix is horrible.

  • Dana Rimons

And she nearly fell on the lyric “DOWN”….

  • Listening

Umm Sweet Suspense were good vocally but nothing to write home about. I just didn’t care about them and I found them awkward on stage.

  • carola99

Sorry but Restless Road is just bad. I don´t get all the buzz about them.

  • Nedsdag

Is the Get a Room couple the closing act?

  • Derrick Johnson

i was gonna say that but i didn’t want to bring that up

  • lola

    This!

  • lola

My cat ran out of the room.

  • yaddabing

I can’t at Demi saying Rachel could do better than Carrie Underwood.

someone please tweet Demi her performance + Simon’s comments.

  • Chris

Ellona gave an ok performance but something was off – maybe the arrangement. And I’m Whitney’d out.

  • Dana Rimons

So I did hear right. Good lord.

  • The RON

Just have Ellona lip sync to Jessica’s vocals…. like Milli Vanilli.

    Girl you know it’s true…

  • lola

    This kid is cute.

  • carla

Surprisingly really strong start by Josh.

  • mcwwin85

    LOVING this!!!

  • shell29

I wasn’t sure about this song choice but so far so good…

  • yaddabing

So the only good performance of the night.

  • Chris

Oh no. He was doing so good. Then flubbed the words. Come on Josh, clean it up

  • lola

    Best so far.

  • Nedsdag

Josh was the best so far tonight.

  • Connie

Whoever is deciding on the background dancers for all these acts, really really needs to be fired. They are horrible, distracting (not in a good way).

  • shell29

Now we’re talking! This is why he needed to be brought back (and why he shouldn’t have been sent home in the first place).

ETA: I’ve been hard on Paulina but I have to give her some credit for that one.

  • yaddabing

But he’ll get shipped off to Epic and L.A. will ruin him.

  • Derrick Johnson

This was Amazing he made the song sound so current.

  • Amy Beth

He was good but please never wear the Bieber pants again.

  • Listening

What was up w/ Tim and that weird girl dancing around him? That whole staging was uncomfortable. It was so bad it had me thinking there was some intentional sabotage going on, it was just really stupid. I felt bad for Tim having to deal w/that girl wandering around and crawling on the floor distracting everyone while he sang.
Oh yeah he was boring and old fashioned. Also once again we had some good vocals but nothing great.

  • shell29

    Oh I hope not.

  • Dana Rimons

You know what is truly bothering me…

many of these contestants have SO much potential vocally and commercially (especially the latter) but the mentoring, staging, song choices, etc… is doing them NO favors whatsoever. I know The X-Factor has ALWAYS been about BIG production but with this crew of singers, it hurts more then helps.

  • lola

This guy better get a real job. Sick of the 5yr old angle.

  • ajr86

Jeff only has a dollar in his bank account?? Who’s he fooling.
Sing well you’ll get votes, not based on your financial status.

  • Dana Rimons

He has $1 in his bank account. LOLZ.

    A dollar. Come on.

  • yaddabing

I would take Jeff more seriously if he dropped the whole….rocker thing. He comes off as a teen trying to be a rockstar.

  • genius13

Wow…josh is ready…if he can keep improving I think he will surprise a lot of people

  • mcwwin85

Jeff sounds like an 80s cover band singer tonight

  • Listening

Oh please sit down Demi, Khaya just kept getting worse and worse the longer she sang. It was cringe worthy.

  • ajr86

Jeff is a bit under the pitch. A bit shouty at the end. Not liking him tonight.

  • lola

He might be ok with his own band but solo? I don’t think so. IMO

  • yaddabing

Well, I actually agree with Simon for once.

  • shell29

I agree with Simon. Spot on criticism.

  • Lexie O’Neill

Rachel Potter’s choice was actually the one I was most disappointed in since I knew about Blake Shelton’s version. Still, Simon’s enthusiasm for Restless Road doesn’t make much sense since he really doesn’t get country music. Hmmm…

  • lola

This is what I wanted to say. ITA and Simon was right.

  • shell29

To me he always sounds like an 80s cover band singer.

  • Peter Prach

X Factor should not have any theme weeks, and just let the contestants choose their own songs.

  • Candy

Simon’s trying to make Country cool. It’s not gonna work.

  • http://www.macthemovieguy.com SirMac

    YES.

  • shell29

Yeah, I’m tired of him bringing up his kid too. We get it-you’re a struggling single dad.

  • yaddabing

    *Every show

  • Derrick Johnson

If there is no theme i would love for Jeff Gut to sing The Power of Love by Gabrielle Aplin. I think he would kill this song.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zNpeK7sDLzE

  • yaddabing

    Merrio

  • yaddabing

I used to think Alex & Sierra was annoying, but I’m starting to think it’s just Sierra.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Can someone tell me wth is a spinal tap?? Simon said it to Jeff

  • ajr86

Alex and Sierra remind me of Gotye. They should sing Someone that I used to know.

  • Karen C

He is a rocker, but it isn’t coming through on the show. It’s like he’s trying too hard.

I think what Simon was telling him to do something more original with the songs, which I have heard before.

  • lola

Spinal Tap is a fictional heavy metal band. See the movie “This is Spinal Tap”. Hillarious.

  • scoobynacks

Now that Simon’s played that angle, put the money back from his savings to his checking account so the $1 doesn’t get lonely.

  • ajr86

Not the best song choice for Alex & Sierra. Still love them.

  • yaddabing

I know he’s rock, but he just comes off as a wannabe rocker. Idk, something needs to be done.

  • Listening

LOL Rachel’s scream near the end sounded like a cat being straggled. I mean it brought up memories of the Danny Gokey Dream On scream during Idol. It was that crazy.

  • Nedsdag

Believe or not it was different, but I thought it was original.

  • ajr86

Nothing compares to Dannys scream. It wasn’t that bad.

  • Amy Beth

When Deni said you look uncomfortable in your shoes, I didn’t realize she meant literally.

  • Dana Rimons

I just don’t want A & S to “hippify” every single song and Simon was right about the melody.

  • Kesia Monteith

You know, what is just so bothering about Simon is his insulting remarks to the rest of the judges. It’s so unpleasant. The girls are having more fun than he his, and that’s not a good look IMO.

  • iluvai

I agree with you SirMac. Josh is pop star! He was fantastic this week.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Oh lol thanks for that! So is he saying Jeff is a fictional rocker? I didn’t get that reference lol..

  • ajr86

So they chickened out from recapping the entire episode for the contestants #s? Sheesh

  • ajr86

Vote Khaya Cohen! She was awesome!

  • Amy Beth

He was saying Jeff is like a stereotype of a rocker.

  • Karen C

I see that too, but I’ve also seen his videos from before the show and he did a terrific job with the rock songs. Maybe it’s the arrangements.

  • Karen C

I think he’s the most current of the boys, and probably the rest on the show.

  • No Thanks

Josh reminds me of Chris Brown before the “anger management” issues.

  • Listening

Some weird stupid stuff is going on w/ Ellona. The staging and the dancers outfits dumb. Please oh please give that girl some pants why is she always strutting around in short shorts/ micro shorts what ever it is it’s tiny. Her entire performance smelled of desperation. I want her to dance around and up date songs in order to be current but I want it done well. She hasn’t even come close to matching her performance to get into the top 3 girls. It’s all been down hill since then. I pray that wasn’t her peak. She was such a star back then had everything cool dancing, stage presence, and good vocals.

  • ajr86

Alex and Sierra should do their own thing and never listen to Simon again.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

I actually think CAROLINE from The Voice should so sing this!!! Someone tweet Ceelo and stop him from doing anymore harm in picking her songs!!

  • Listening

You’re right it wasn’t that bad but it did give me flashbacks of it. So that tells you something. Rachel’s was so unexpected I wasn’t gearing up to hear anything like I was for Danny.
I think she knew it was going wrong and aborted quickly.

  • ItsWessles

Honestly I don’t think he’s been rude enough to them. Especially Demi. I’m SICK of her grabbing his mic or cutting people off and saying “I’m sorry but I have to say this…”

  • iluvai

I think Demi was a bit rude tonight. Still like her though.

  • Derrick Johnson

Her voice would go well with this too and why i say Jeff should sing this is because he has such a powerful voice and he could make this song his own by turning it into a Rock Power ballad.

  • ItsWessles

Oh my goodness! What’s with the Alex and Sierra love? They’re like a bad American Apparel commercial. They’re just beyond annoying. It’s one thing to be quirky, but it’s like they’re weird and intentionally uncomfortable just for the sake of being weird and uncomfortable.

  • Kesia Monteith

I don’t like that either. They border on ridiculous. I’m just not into Simon calling them “witches” at the same time.

  • Listening

No way I loved Josh didn’t think i’d ever say that. He totally changed Straight Up made it cool R&B / pop. Had me thinking he’s a baby Usher. That’s how you dance Carlito not your awkward movements. It was an okay at times good vocal but it was paired w/ freshness and incredible stage presence which more than compensated for his vocals. I mean it’s not like anyone else had great vocals so I don’t feel bad about putting him above the other acts. Tweens and teenagers would actually pay to see him and hear him.
Josh was easily the best of the night so far w/ one act to go.

  • Dana Rimons

Alright, re-watched the whole show only by listening to the audio… and I think Restless Road did better than some peeps are giving them credit for. I don’t think they SHOULD be bottom 3, SirMac. But we shall agree to disagree.

I am going to throw them some votes cause I think they could be in trouble out of Simon’s acts.

  • Erlie

Scotty was not the original either. There was another one before him whom he bootleg.

  • Listening

I liked Alex and Sierra’s singing. I liked the twist on the song. There were just a few problems. The stupid harp was really annoying, Sierra was really stiff/ awkward on stage and I hated her little diaper shorts. The shorts were weird both too big and too small for her at the same time.
Sierra is the weak link she’s not comfortable on stage and she seems to need him to boost her confidence.

  • Blirel

My favs are Alex and Sierra Ellona and Jeff

  • Blirel

Also Josh was outstanding in the redo and this week so he will be top 5 i questioned them bringing him back but hes definetly the right one

  • Listening

So best of the night easily Josh. A bit below him were Alex and Sierra.
The rest were just there. They weren’t terrible w/ the exception of Khaya but they ranged from boring, awkward to average. They’ve been forgotten about.

  • Blirel

Tim is a great vocalist but song choices r killing him becuz he has maybe the best soulful voice ed sheeran type and needs to be more original

  • Listening

Also if i’m not mistaken didn’t Kelly get up in Simon’s face telling him to say something after Lillie sang. Kelly got real aggressive w/ him it was a bit uncomfortable. Can you imagine the outrage if Simon had done that to one of the female judges.

  • scoobynacks

Didn’t he say last week after the emergency Thursday performance night tht he’d let them do the song picking in the future? Oh well, that promise didn’t last long.

  • scoobynacks

That’s exactly what I thought. Chris Brown without the bad boy drama. None of the judges probably wanna invoke CB because of the baggage, but Josh was definitely styled that way and after you see him do choreography it’s hard not to connect the dots.

  • scoobynacks

Jeff really needs to turn it up to 11. ;)

  • CharlyBaltimore

Steve Lawrence & Eydie Gorme – Paul & Paula – Dick & Deedee – Ike & Tina – Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell – Peaches & Herb – Sonny & Cher. We are wayyyyy overdue for someone like Alex & Sierra. They will get all of my votes for the remainder of the season.

  • janeeyre

I think Jeff Gutt has a great rock voice. I think Simon is trying to extract a David Cook type performance from him… Take a song, change it up, rock it out, be unexpected. Im thinking Hello or Billy Jean type performances. He sounded great butbjust likebthe original.

  • BluSky

Love them both! I’d buy their record today! :) Agree about Sierra – she looked a bit uncomfortable tonight… Not her type of clothing – half her energy probably went into not falling off those high heels :))

  • Jon Glass

HOLY CRAP ALEX AND SIERRA! THAT WAS FANTASTIC!! LOVED IT. EVERYTHING ABOUT IT. The staging was really cool.

  • Jon Glass

The itunes performance of Rachel’s; the scream is fixed and sounds better. Loved her performance and how theatrical it was.

  • Jon Glass

Did you guys hear Demi say that Rachel is better than Carrie Underwood??

  • ny4carrie

Demi was way out of line to diss Carrie Underwood tonight. While rachael did well- carrie slayed Alone and sang circles around her. Either way it was rude of Demi to say and not necessary. Not cool at all.

  • Karen C

That’s exactly what I thought of when Simon gave his advice. I was hoping for that too, actually.

  • crackinthewall

I like how transparent they are this week with their backup singers for the Groups.

  • Dana Rimons

I know this means nothing in terms of who is actually getting votes because we all know those who purchase Itunes tracks are not necessarily voting too but just for fun and to give some perspective…

On the Itunes USA POP Charts (for this week’s performances)
    188. Restless Road
    191. Alex & Sierra
    357. Josh Levi
    479. Sweet Suspense
    553. Khaya Cohen
    555. Rachel Potter
    595. Jeff Gutt
    615. Rion Page
    1000. Lillie McCloud
    1301. Ellona Santiago
    1378. Tim Olstad

*not charting on the POP chart- Carlito

On the Itunes USA OVERALL Chart (takes into account all genres for this week’s performances)
    646. Restless Road
    651. Alex & Sierra
    1297. Josh Levi

*not charting on the OVERAL chart- any others

Of course, subject to change throughout the night and it probably means nothing to the vote but just sharing the info.

  • Guest

Agree, I was put off with the Carrie Underwood diss too. Besides Demi looks like a character from a Star Trek episode tonight. That’s my diss to Demi. lol

  • Guest

Josh Bieber… I like that! Josh did all the Bieber moves very well. A+

  • yaddabing

The annoying Simon/Demi banter has got to stop.

  • macfae

I must have missed that comment and have deleted the show – What did Demi say ?
Surely not that Rachel was better than Carrie ?

  • Anny_nanny

I love the 80s, and I hope never to hear the performances of this episode again. I understand gradation from MJ, but today A was like C.

  • Bazzle

Judges are on crack Alex and Sierra were great! I had no idea they were that good…. Looked real original and interesting sounded like it whole performance was great.

  • FinalFantasy13

I agree although I don’t really think it’s fair that rachel is getting a lot of flack (at least on twitter) for the comment when Demi was the one that made it.
    .

  • guest

Correct! I think they should let the contestants choose their own song..

  • geekygirl

Well we know his song pick for next week, he should sing “I Need a Dollar” by Aloe Blacc!

  • geekygirl

Is that what they were!! Lol, I thought he was having a wardrobe malfunction considering what stupid outfits the rest of them were wearing! Ok less points from me because I thought he did well to stay in the moment when his trousers were falling down

  • guest

I don’t blame these contestants because theh did their best! It must be up to the mentors who are not really choosing a good sonh/ arrangement for their acts. Let the contestants choose their own songs!

  • WestiesRule

What the bloody hell did those judges hear with Alex and Sierra???? I too love them and agree with SIRMAC’s top 4. Khaya has that Amy Winehouse thing going on and the more they capitalize on it the further she will go in the industry. Josh is a cutie and could do well too. I adore Kelly Roland whether she is here or in the UK mentoring. She takes her job seriously and actually listens to contestants. Demi seems to be “off” this season. Paulina belongs on a space ship and Simon…. nuff said!

  • Lexie O’Neill

Strangely, that’s not what I heard. I just thought she said the kind of music Rachel was doing was something Carrie would do. Because it didn’t seem country at all, according to Simon :)) and she was rebutting. Oh, well, none of the country acts did country.

  • Incipit

If Cowell wanted a David Cook performance of this song from Jeff, then they could have just given him David’s arrangement of
” I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight” that he did on the Declaration Tour – high energy, rocked up much harder than this, without the odd phrasing that kept popping up here. I didn’t like what they did with this.

  • Listening

I thought of David Cook’s rendition too when I heard Jeff was singing this. Loved David’s cover disliked this one. It was so dated and similar to original. Jeff comes across as the I wish guy to me he wishes to be a rocker. Yes it’s the best style that suites his voice but that doesn’t mean he’s great at it. Oh and he’s so uncomfortable on stage. His go to move is just planting himself on the middle of the stage and rocking from side to side. And the stripping off his jacket bit awkward. It came across like he got hot or freaked out and started taking off his clothes. It was embarrassing. He just doesn’t possess the star quality. He doesn’t pull you in or seem believable and he’s certainly not creative w/ a song as David was.

  • Listening

I’m just getting youtube clips right now so not the full interactions so I didn’t see what was being said but I do know all the judges have bickered and defended their acts. I’m okay w/ stuff like that is to be expected at times they can get a tad assertive and stubborn and not listen to good advice. I noticed that mostly of Demi last season oh and Simon he was just so sure he knew how to mold/lead his acts when the other judges voiced their concerns he’d ignore them. I think they’ve been working on that though.
Anywho Demi and Simon are still my favorites. I actually like how they tease one another. Her picking on him saying stuff like he doesn’t know music cause he’s old and deaf and him telling her to quite down b/c the adults are talking when they disagree w/ about a contestant. Stuff like that helped me love them as a combo.

  • ladymctech

Did Josh Levi win yet? Is he signed yet?

  • Karen C

That’s exactly what I was thinking of when Jeff did this version, and maybe even what Simon was trying to tell him. Although I would have hated if they copied David’s version, they could have done more of a rock version. This was too close to the original.

I do wonder if they are able to rearrange songs like they can on Idol, but they have with other songs.

After last year, I saw some youtubes of Jeff doing a lot of rock songs, and thought he was very good. I was hoping he would be able to do what David and Daughtry did, and really bring rock on the show, but it isn’t coming off like that.

  • Karen C

I’ve seen some videos where he was good with rock songs, but I agree he hasn’t been as creative with the arrangements.

Makes me appreciate how good some people really are at that.

  • snowleopardlady

I think that alex and sierra are fantastic. Really enjoy listening to them. I don’t know what the judges were talking about. They were the best of the night with Rachel Potter being second. Also Josh was very good.

  • Incipit

Yes. What caught my attention w this guy initially was back when he sang “Hallelujah”. Not because of the song, which I am sick, sick, sick of hearing on these shows, but because he actually knew what it was about, and didn’t treat it like a danged hymn, and he sang it well. That was fresh.

But it’s been XFUS “Business as Usual” ever since, and he doesn’t impress. If Cowell in his Producer’s hat is trying for a DC.2 – this guy isn’t it.

    IMO.

  • http://www.glitzngrits.com/ AlesheaDominique

Couple things about last nights episode:
    1) I think having the same numbers is a blessing and a curse. I was not able to watch live. While I was waiting on my sister to get off work I was still able to vote cause I already knew the numbers.
    2) I think the app could do more harm than good. I see many people just put in their 50 votes and then they are done.
    3) All these mass eliminations are the reason it is hard for me to get invested in a person.
    4) When I finally watched my sister was so bored she was falling asleep during many of the performances. And she is the demo they are trying to reach. As I type she is rewatching but all she did was ff to Alex and Sierra. 5) Alex and Sierra were the best of the night for me. I think Simon and co is just not happy cause he knows that at the moment they are the ones to beat and not his man band. We all know that in the end Simon and co will sign whoever they want regardless of placement, But if he can control an outcome and keep his boys longer for more exposure than he will.

I missed snarking live with y’all. Hopefully I wan watch live next week. Am I the only one excited to see the rankings and who is exactly in the bottom.

  • Karen C

Yeah, I was hoping he would be too after next year, not so sure now.
