Tonight. Join me for the live blog of the Top 10 taking on British Invasion Week AKA Songs from the Revolutionary War. This should be fun!

What was up with Mario’s cocky pause at the top of the show? Dude. You host X-Factor. You didn’t just win an Oscar. Come the heck out on stage. Don’t just stand there.

This opening segment is way more epic than it needs to be. We’re getting another double elimination this week. Fun stuff.

1) Jeff Gutt- Bohemian Rhapsody
As I predicted, he’s at the top of the show. In case you forgot, he has a son. Kelly chose a crazy song for Jeff, but a reality show staple. The show starts with Jeff in a chair that I’m pretty sure someone stole from Game of Thrones. A few pitch problems, which is unusual for Jeff. He doesn’t quite hit the high parts that he needs to, and falls a bit flat. I like that the performance is longer than last week (which is necessary for a song of this epic length). It was kind of an epic performance, except that it also showed that Jeff Gutt lacks the charisma of Freddy Mercury, but honestly most people do. Paulina thought his transitions were rough. Demi and Simon thought it was his best performance

MY GRADE: B+ (a few vocal hiccups, but a solid performance overall).

2) Tim Olstad- Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word
Tim Olstad and his powerful voice! Tim is hopping on the piano this week. Oh snap! Instrument playing could change the game! Simon calls him boring in his package. Will Tim’s decision pay off? They need to get rid of the jackets they keep putting on Tim. They look ridiculous. He stands up halfway through the song. Let’s be honest… he was playing chords. He’s not a piano virtuoso. This flinging he’s doing with his arm. It’s distracting. He’s just proving that he has no idea what to do on stage. The biting of the lower lip? I just… I don’t understand this performance at all. Kelly thinks he stepped it up this week. She thought he was sexy behind the piano. Demi says he didn’t need the piano to be sexy, and compares him to Robin Thicke. Simon calls him a singing hamster. Paulina calls him Simba. Simon thinks his future is more Broadway than recording artist. Simon thinks he should have stayed at the piano. I agree with everything Simon said.

MY GRADE: C+

3) Khaya Cohen- Let It Be
She survived last weeks “Final Showdown”. The beginning is really low, so she basically just speaks it. I appreciate the effort, but if anyone can honestly tell me that they believe this is the best cover of Let It Be, or even Khaya’s best performance on the show, I’d be surprised. It has a few moments of greatness toward the end when Khaya gives up the original melody and just sings her face off. Some of it though gets a little screamy/screechy. It was aight. Kelly loves the power and strength in Khaya’s voice, but wants rounder vowels (wow, actual technique critiques). Paulina says Khaya shows her soul. Simon thinks her being in the bottom was a joke. Khaya thanks Demi for picking the song. Demi agrees it was a joke she was in the bottom and thinks Khaya’s voice is insane.

MY GRADE: B

To vote for Khaya:

4) Josh Levi- Sweet Dreams
Paulina said it really slowly, but she did actually get Josh’s last name right this week. He frightens Paulina with his awful jokes. She literally looked terrified. He’s entering from a British red phone booth. Doctor Who fans unite! Josh is getting some awesome coaching. I think an A&R person must have said “this kid”, and they’re trying really hard to keep him now. He gets a remixed version of this song, some solid choreography, and a good dance break to show that he is a triple threat. This might be the only thing I remember about tonight. Kelly says is jealous of Paulina. She thinks Josh is incredibly talented. Demi says Josh reminds her of Chris Brown. She’s also jealous. Simon says he looks forward to Josh. Simon calls Paulina insane. He thinks the whole staging was crazy. Paulina gets mad, but loves Josh.

My grade: A-

5) Alex and Sierra- Best Song Ever
Is anyone surprised that Simon’s group is covering a One Direction song? This is a stripped down cover. It sounds a little odd, slowed and stripped down like this. It’s kinda cool. It’s a risk, because 1D fans might hate it. It’s not my favorite cover of theirs, but I do like that they did something cool with it. Definitely one of the best of the night. Kelly thought Alex was stronger than Sierra this week. Paulina thought the bridge was corny. Simon is like “HELLO?” Demi thought it was their best performance yet. Demi will download this. Demi gave them a standing O. Simon thinks it was brilliant, cool, and laid back. Simon says that’s a record, and original. He thinks they can win.

MY GRADE: A-

6) Rion Paige- Your Song
Demi told Rion to let down her guard this week. She’s dressed like a hippy for some bizarre reason. I guess they are running out of things to do with her. Maybe they should use Tim’s jacket. This is actually kind of a cool cover. It’s a little stripped down. Her vocal still isn’t perfect, but it is my favorite Rion song this season. I would almost download this. Almost. Kelly thought it was incredible, and calls Rion human and felt something different this week. Paulina says she gives so much, and gave nostalgia, and her beautiful soul. Simon thought she was fantastic. She controlled the song beautifully. Simon said it sounded like a record. Demi is proud of her.

MY GRADE: B+

7) Carlito Olivero- Satisfaction
What a terrible song choice for him. Paulina can’t figure out what song to give Carlito. It’s so frustrating. This is terrible, and actually comes across as lazy in the staging. He doesn’t get backup dancers, he gets odd holograms of himself. He’s so low energy for such a high energy song. Very karaoke, boring. Worst performance of the night. This is not how you win. That camera zoom on his pelvic thrusts? Ughhhh. Kelly thought it was a step up from lost week, but thinks something is missing from his performances. Demi thought the end was better, and thinks he should sing in Spanish more. She thinks he needs girl dancers. Simon agrees with the spanish thing. Simon loved the staging. Simon hopes the public keeps him, and hopes Paulina gives him a better song next week. Paulina thinks he did terrific. She misses his smile.

MY GRADE: D+

8) Lillie McCloud-This Woman’s Work
The song is outside her comfort zone. Simon predicts ahead of time that it is the wrong song. SANG IT. It’s a more contemporary song for Lillie, and it is a brilliant song choice (screw Simon). Lillie looks beautiful, and once again she looks like 30, not 50. She’s singing her face off. There’s so much emotion in this. It’s like watching an established artist performing as a guest on the show. It’s in a different league. Best performance of the night, and my favorite Lillie performance of the season. Paulina thinks she’s refreshing. She thought it was amazing. Demi said it reminded her of the Lillie she first saw. Demi wants her to utilize her range more often. Simon says it’s easy to take for granted how good of a singer she is, and thought it was brilliant. Simon says she’s arrived.

MY GRADE: A

You can call 1-855-THE XF 08 (lines open only for two hours)
You can also vote using SHAZAM.

9) Ellona Santiago- Burn
Ellona is trying to just sign her face off this week. Demi is worried this week. She definitely has her flat moments, I get why Demi was worried. this is a difficult song to sing, because it almost sounds like it’s supposed to be flat. As the song picks up, Ellona’s pitch gets better. It was a good performance, but she battled pitch throughout. Kelly thinks her voice is so big, and that she brings something extra to the stage. Paulina says Ellona has her light to give us. Simon says she’s a brilliant performer, but he doesn’t know who she is yet. Simon thinks she’s a dancing, singing puppet. Demi thinks she killed it.

MY GRADE: B-

To vote for Ellona Santiago:

You can call 1-855-THE XF 04 (lines open only for two hours)
You can also vote using SHAZAM!

10) Restless Road- Fix You
They talk about one of them being awkward on stage. They have him try and pick up a girl. He couldn’t find ONE GIRL who recognized him? That’s funny. They’re getting the Sweet Suspense treatment, where the backing vocals are so damn loud that you can’t actually hear Restless Road. I hear some flat notes coming from one of the boys though. That being said, I thought their solo lines were more on point this week (except the bizarre bass guy, who just wasn’t right for this song). Simon gives them a standing O. I think the loud track kept them from really shining. Kelly is waiting on her Restless Road T-Shirt. She thinks it needed to be more cohesive. She tells Zack to loosen up. Paulina loved the song, but doesn’t think they show themselves. Demi thinks they’ve done better. Demi thinks Andrew’s harmonies was off (I think he was the one I heard). Simon thinks it was one of the best performances of the night. I think it was a huge improvement for them, in general, but they still need to work on the vocals.

My Grade: B

Who Will Be In The Bottom: Carlito, Ellona, and Jeff (hopefully Tim though).

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Technically, British Invasion would not be Revolutionary War but War of 1812… and somebody covering Johnny Horton’s “Ballad of New Orleans” would be AWESOME.

  • EdmondWayne

    The Mighty Mississip??

  • LJ

Kelly looks amazing, I still hate Demi’s hair.

  • lola

Not the five year old again. Oh no. Did I hear Jeff sing “Mama”…Bohemian Rapsody…

  • Adam Alamillo

Gutt still whoring out his 5 year old for votes. ughh

  • Guest

This was not part of the British Invasion. Out on the theme.

  • lola

There was a screech….eek…falsetto gone bad.

  • Adam Alamillo

Every time I hear Jeff sing, it’s like he’s just trying to mimic the original singer’s vocal styling. It’s really annoying to me.

  • lola

    His voice is shot.

  • Guest

    I hear a huge choir.

  • lola

He might have vocal nodules. There is something definitely wrong here.

  • yaddabing

I’m late, but lmao that judges entrance was a mess

  • ajr86

Constantine did a much better job on Bohemian Rhapsody than Jeff Gutt. That says a lot. Jeff just didn’t have the chops to pull it off.

  • yaddabing

Oh my. The camera work is so amateur.

  • Nedsdag

Demi looks like my ex’s grandma with the blue hair.

  • Valarie

This guy is just not good. I don’t know why the judges pump him up.

  • lola

What were the judges listening to?

  • carola99

Have to say Jeff was awesome! He rocked that!

  • Nedsdag

At least Jeff didn’t karaoke it. By the way, did you know that Jeff has a son?

  • ajr86

    Tim Olstad up next. Zzzzzzzz

  • lola

Geez, no I didn’t!! Is he doing all this for his son? :-)

  • lola

    Don’t you mean Tim Olsen?

  • http://www.glitzngrits.com/ AlesheaDominique

Hmm, no surprise that one of the overs opened the show. I’m meh on Jeff’s version. I didn’t hate it and I didn’t love it.

  • yaddabing

Lmao at Paulina looking down to read who was coming out.

  • ajr86

    Whtvr

  • yaddabing

What kind of “mentoring session” happens backstage?

  • carola99

TIm is super boring, of course Elton John… But watch him win this show. Simons biggest nightmare..

  • ajr86

Tim definitely has the cheese factor.

  • Kathleen Moore

Hey. It could be worse. He could have been singing “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me.”

  • shell29

Why do they keep showing Demi ignoring him? LOL.

  • Adam Alamillo

My god. My biggest pet peeve is audience clapping. This is so not the song for that. Gah..

  • LJ

Tim is just boring and forgettable. He’s still performing and I’ve already forgotten him.

  • ajr86

Tim was always boring but his voice never sounded this bad. Bye Tim!

  • Nedsdag

So it’s a matter of when Tim is leaving: before or after One Direction performs?

  • carola99

I hope not keep pity voting for Tim. His time is up please. He is a nice kid but no X Factor.

  • lola

    Tim is glam….WTF

  • yaddabing

    Sexy? Kelly bye.

  • ajr86

Kelly, Paulina and Demi calling Tim sexy?? Huh????? Yukkkkkk

  • yaddabing

    Robin Thicke? Demi bye.

  • Lexie O’Neill

I hate to say that I agree with Simon. Tim is a sweet hamster.

  • lola

A singing hamster. Right on. Hammy the hamster.

  • carola99

Simon called Tim cabaret. Ha, ha..

  • shell29

I have to admit he sounds pretty good this week but he still bores me to tears.

  • scoobynacks

Aren’t you supposed to be awake for sex?

  • LJ

    My thoughts exactly!

  • Adam Alamillo

Uh oh. Khaya in spot 3.

  • LJ

You made me spit out my tea! Lol!

  • carola99

Simon called Tim´s future cabaret at the most or perhaps Broadway.
I think Tim is too cheesy for even Broadway..

  • teekee

    I agree.

  • Kathleen Moore

Problem with Simon’s statement…he said he seemed more comfortable behind the piano. however to go Broadway, he’d probably have to ditch the piano.

  • yaddabing

    Zzzzzz song choice

  • Adam Alamillo

    WTF. STOP CLAPPING AUDIENCE. IDIOTS.

  • carola99

Jeff Gutt is still trending on twitter! People liked his performance..

  • yaddabing

    IT’S CLAP OR SCREAM.

THEY MUST DO ONE. IT’S MANDATORY FOR A X FACTOR AUDIENCE MEMBER!!

  • Guest

    Just got good.

  • carola99

I am not liking Khaya´s version of Let it Be.

  • shell29

Not crazy about this song choice for Khaya but the girl can sang.

  • lola

Hate her arrangement of this song.

  • carola99

Exactly I did not like the arrangement.

  • Kathleen Moore

Unfortunately, she’s not going to win any more fans tonight.

  • LJ

Khaya was pitchy during the first half of the song and she oversung the last half. I. DID. NOT. LIKE. IT.

  • yaddabing

Kelly proving she shouldn’t be on this mess of a show.

  • lola

Tim is trending on twitter too but not sure which Tim. lol!

  • lola

    Thank you! Me neither!!!

  • carla

That wasn’t good at all. She’s usually good but that wasn’t. She can’t do a lower register.

  • carola99

I agree she over sang the song and it was pitchy in the beginning. Not good. Plus bad arrangement.

  • lola

Her smile is just so fake to me! Smug smug smug IMO

  • yaddabing

    go Nicole

  • Call_girl

wow i don’t care what people Think I love Tim. I think his voice is amazing. I don’t find anything about him boring. And I will be listening to his voice on the CD anyway. Way better then the other males on this season.

  • Amy Beth

Speaking of hairstyles, give Khaya back her curly, slightly frizzy hair. The straightened hair makes her look like a Selena Gomez wannabe.

  • carola99

I don´t know why but Khaya just isn´t connecting..

  • shell29

Khaya can sing her butt off but she did too much with Let It Be. The arrangement wasn’t great and IMO it wasn’t a good fit for her. I’m concerned that she’ll land in the bottom two or three again.

  • Adam Alamillo

I just want this to be at the original tempo…

  • LJ

Not crazy about the song choice, but Josh is a star.

  • carla

He’s a star. He’s only 14. He so much room to grow and be amazing.

  • lola

Interesting arrangement of Sweet Dreams. Don’t know if I love it or hate it. Got better after he started dancing.

  • Dexter

    yawn….skip to A & S….only ones I wanna hear

  • lola

Such a sweet smile on that kid. Shut up Paulina!

  • yaddabing

Ugh, Demi is useless as a judge and mentor.

  • Nedsdag

Josh didn’t need to Usher/Bieber that song. He could’ve sang it slowly.

  • lola

Agree. Acts now like she doesn’t want to be there.

  • shell29

They’re pulling out all the stops for Josh. I don’t know if I loved this as much as last week but I enjoyed the performance.

  • carola99

Josh was good but not as last week.
Still.. The potential with that kids is huge. Hope he stays!

  • Amy Beth

    Chris Brown comparison–help or hurt?

  • teekee

Yes. That’s what I thought/hoped he’d do. Still liked it though.

  • H.A.

I think I get what Simon is trying to say. Josh is the only true star on that show and has the potential to go far but Paulina could end up making him cheesy. I was not crazy about that performance and arrangement.

  • scoobynacks

I like Khaya but this was exasperating. Unfortunately she’s got Demi for a mentor. They couldn’t at least do an upbeat Beatles song? I don’t think they’re the right fit for her to cover anyway. She needed a different vibe. At least go Stones if you’re gonna do that era. Did Demi not wanna go the obvious route of Amy or Duffy? How about Jessie J, Dusty Springfield, or Joss Stone?

  • yaddabing

IDK, are we forgetting Restless Road’s performance last week? That was epitome of cheesy. I don’t get why Simon is talking about cheesy.

  • H.A.

Help. Sooner or later Chris Brown will be either dead or in jail so we need someone to take his place.

  • Nedsdag

Here comes the lone reason to watch the show A&S.

  • yaddabing

Omg that Idol commercial was so good.

  • http://talkinaboutmovies.blogspot.com Brenoga

I also thought that Josh’s staging was INSANE. Phone cabins and guards dancing? WTF?! But Josh was good, anyway.

  • Nedsdag

    OH NO!!!!

  • Adam Alamillo

“From now on, you’re choosing all your own songs.”

    ….Bullsh*t?

  • H.A.

True, but Josh already has the “it” factor why screw it up.

  • Adam Alamillo

I understand how some people find them annoying, but I think they’re magic together. Their blend and harmonies…

  • yaddabing

Don’t get me wrong, this is a good, cheesy pop song……..but nothing you can do can make this a *serious* song.

Yet Simon just was going off about being cheesy.

  • carola99

Sorry I love Alex & Sierra but I don´t like them singing this song.
This is boring and too slow.

  • lola

What the hell is this song?

  • Karen C

So far, I like Jeff, but I think Bohemian Rhapsody was the wrong song for him. It’s a hard song to do because it ends up being too chopped up. I thought he did ok with it but something else would have been better.

I thought Tim was pretty good, and Khayah was too. I do think Josh has potential to be a pop star, and they seem to be giving him original arrangements. Alex and Sierra are just,, different.

  • Kathleen Moore

Hopeless Roadie here….but is Simon trying to sabatage A&S? Great singers, but horrible song choice.

  • carola99

Jeff has been the best so far..

  • yaddabing

This isn’t a song that can be stripped back. You just have to take it for what it is.

  • scoobynacks

Can they please stop with the off stage piano accompanist? This isn’t working. The contestants don’t know how to handle it. Doing a slow song where they keep waiting on the piano to catch up to them sounds terrible. You have to be secure enough with the song and as an artist to sing and let the pianist follow. Don’t adjust to fit the piano while it’s trying to adjust to fit you.

  • Bugme Nomor

“The Best Song Ever” is repetitive. That becomes very clear when you slow it down.

  • shell29

    I kinda liked that.

  • H.A.

The only way A&S will make it in the real world is if they write their own music and everyone(Simon, label) stay out of their way. The guy is much better than the girl and she comes across like an annoying and needy girlfriend.

  • Nedsdag

What? I am agreeing with Demi? I thought it was good as well!

  • carola99

Simon no, this was NOT a brilliant performance..

  • LJ

Paulina is surprising me a little tonight, more personality tonight than she has shown throughout the entire competition.

  • carola99

She actually is making more sense than the others in her judgement. I have agreed with her all night mostly.

  • Bugme Nomor

Agreed. I don’t think she can carry the A capella openings they’ve been giving her.

  • LJ

Brilliant? I actually found it rather boring and thought for the first time their harmonies seemed to clash, especially during the chorus.

  • carola99

Maybe Simon is sabotagin A&S so that Restless Road can win. Although that group is so mediocre IMO.

  • LJ

I know. I’m shocked! She must have finally watched one of the episodes back and saw how terrible she was.

  • shell29

I thought it sounded good but ‘brilliant’? That’s a bit much Simon.

  • scoobynacks

I’ve been wondering this very thing. Would uttering CB matter? We’re all already thinking it.

Having said that, I thought tonight was horrible. Don’t get the A- rating. He was between Khaya and Tim for me and I wasn’t thrilled with them tonight. A&S have done the best job and that’s not saying a lot. Rough night.

  • shell29

I don’t think he’s sabotaging them (at least not on purpose). I think he genuinely feels that A&S could make some $$ for him. He’ll probably sign those two win or lose.

  • lola

I can’t hear any of their music on the radio (although that doesn’t mean much these days). They could play clubs & college gigs but no one will know who they are unless they watched this show. Without support from a label they could disappear. So many good voices out there now.

  • nycguy

I wish the audience would stop clapping at all the ballads already. It’s distracting!

  • shell29

    Agreed…it’s very annoying.

  • H.A.

Rion is probably the worst contestant on this show. I rather keep Tim than her.

  • yaddabing

I know, but she’s so adorable that I can’t hold that against her.

  • Nedsdag

Janet Devlin did it better and you were eyewitness to it, Kelly!

  • Jon Glass

I am sure Rion is the sweetest person ever, but it’s not fair. Having her for sympathy screws other contestants. Doesn’t she know that the industry won’t care and won’t give her sympathy?

  • H.A.

These judges lie so bad. I can’t.

  • shell29

^This. I just can’t bring myself to be negative towards her anymore. I still don’t think she’s quite ready yet (still too young) but I’d rather keep Rion over Cheezy Tim. She’s just a doll.

  • Kathleen Moore

Rion is one of the must frustrating contestants ever. She is either very good or extremely awful. This week…i agree with the judges totally. She was great.

  • LJ

The elephant in the room reaffirms that Rion isn’t here because of her singing.

  • yaddabing

I would feel differently if everyone else on this show was good, but…..

  • http://www.glitzngrits.com/ AlesheaDominique

That’s what I was thinking the whole time.

  • yaddabing

Remember when Leona was supposed to be the next Whitney and Mariah?

Those were the days. Poor Simon has forgotten about her now.

  • lola

You are so correct. It’s a cruel world out there in the music industry.

  • Nedsdag

    Carlito was cloned?

  • LJ

Random Thought: Everytime I hear this song, I think about Britney Spears’ strip tease at the VMAs. Man those were the days. :-)

  • lola

This song sounds sleepy to me. Please, one Carlito is one too many.

  • LJ

    Me no likely Carlito.

  • shell29

I don’t know if liked the staging…they could have done better for Carlito.

  • lola

I totally agree with whoever said “get Kelly to Idol”.

  • Nedsdag

Demi, maybe you should’ve compared him to Enrique Iglesias instead of Ricky Martin.

  • Nedsdag

What Kate Bush song is Lillie singing?

  • carola99

I don´t know what it is but there is something endearing about Carlito.
    I love his fighting attitude.
Oh and it seems Restless Road is def getting the pimp spot.

  • shell29

I agree with Kelly’s criticism but there’s something about Carlito I like. I hope he sticks around.

  • carola99

Yeah, me too. Hope he gets the votes. IMO he deserves to be there way more than Tim.

  • carla

Me too. He has a great voice and presence. He’s never that off. I think he deserves to say compared to others.

  • Nedsdag

I’d watch her instead of J-Lo, TBTH.

  • Derrick Johnson

Carlito was great but i do agree with what kelly said

  • Derrick Johnson

I think it’s the song choices is what is killing Carlito

  • Amy Beth

Rion could have a lucrative career as a singing motivational/inspirational speaker.

  • http://www.glitzngrits.com/ AlesheaDominique

Kate Bush originally sang womans work. Maybe that? I had to pause and now I’m behind.

  • shell29

I’m surprised Lillie hadn’t heard this song before.

  • Nedsdag

Especially since Maxwell did a version of it.

  • ajr86

Lilly sings as if she’s in her own world. She doesn’t connect at all.

  • Kathleen Moore

I’m not. I’m Lillie’s age, and I haven’t heard this song before either. It depends on what you listen to on the radio. She is doing a good job on it. I hope she doesn’t get the “too old-fashioned” tag.

  • shell29

Lillie’s trying to win me back this week. I enjoyed that.

  • LJ

    Lillie… Amazing!

  • listening

Umm that’s the first time I actually liked Carlito. I thought his vocal was on point and the end especially was on fire. Demi is wrong though he shouldn’t sing in Spanish that’s too gimmicky and will simply have a bunch of people going is this American Idol or Spanish Idol. The only foreign language I want to hear on a talent show is Latin when they’re singing opera.

Oh but the set up was a little stupid w/ the scenes of him but he did look good, the boy looked yummy to me.

  • carola99

I know right? THat is the Lillie I want to see every week! I Missed her and she is back!

  • Matthew Richards

Lillie is the performance of the night by far. I didn’t like her last week, but that was in a different league from the other contestants.

  • Nedsdag

Better song, better wig, nicely done, Lillie!

  • Eric Ascher

I don’t like Lillie. I think she’s too churchy for my taste and I wouldn’t buy her music.

  • scoobynacks

Really? Drat. I kinda wish I hadn’t muted her. I just assumed it was going to be nonsense again. (On X Factor, I decide whether I think each judge is reading a line or saying something stupid, then tune them out and rinse/repeat with the next judge. I also flat out ignore Mario.) I thought earlier that she’d be a real spitfire that would take on Simon and really contribute. If she develops into that, I’d be thrilled.

  • carola99

Agreed 100%. Lillie´s performance gave me chills.

  • Matthew Richards

I’m okay with him singing in Spanish, but why is she telling him to sing in Spanish on British Invasion Week? Dumbest comment of the night.

  • shell29

I was pleasantly surprised…for someone who was unfamiliar with that song, I thought she did a fantastic job. I felt like she did connect with the song.

  • lola

    Excellent point!

  • listening

Umm I got to ask are Alex and Sierra gonna always slow a song down. I’m tired of it already. And what was Simon thinking giving them Best Song Ever, that’s one pointless song. They need something meaningful w/ their style.

One more thing I liked the guy’s vocal the girl had her moments but when they started singing together it was a mess. It was like they were singing two different songs. It didn’t blend at all and sounded discordant. They’ve done better than that in the past.

  • yaddabing

    Uh oh.

    This may be a disaster.

  • Nedsdag

Can you imagine if Ellona had Jessica Sanchez’s voice?

  • lola

That thing on the top of her head distracts me from her singing. I am afraid.

  • lola

    I like the gold guys.

  • yaddabing

    Eh, that was okay.

  • Nedsdag

“Viva la Vida” for Simon’s boys?

  • Nedsdag

I thought I was the only one who felt this way.

  • iluvai

I thought their version of that song was horrid. Yuck.

  • Jon Glass

Nope its Fix You. Its already on itunes.

  • vd88

Of course Simon’s group goes last again.

  • yaddabing

    Oh my.

  • No Thanks

    Did she do Maxwell’s version?

  • Nedsdag

Phew! They should’ve done “Trouble” or “Yellow” instead.

  • Jon Glass

So I figured something out, last week I downloaded Rachel’s, A&S’, Josh’, and Khaya’ songs on itunes and none of them are the live version. They are recorded songs, but the same length. No live audience in the track and Rachel’s “scream” sounds ten times better.

  • shell29

This girl Ellona has so much potential as a well-rounded performer. I like what they were trying to go for this week. It wasn’t perfect but not a bad effort.

  • scoobynacks

Ugh, the guy who does the low-rent Scotty is gonna do what with this song? It’s too high for him.

  • iluvai

Khaya, Josh and Carlito were best to me tonight.

  • Amy Beth

She looked like Amy from Karmin on steroids

  • Jon Glass

I honestly don’t believe this is a mess. This week and last week for the most part, seemed pretty good to me.

  • shell29

Enough with the One Direction pimping Mario! We get it!

  • Igor F

Alex & Sierra’s song is 278 on itunes.

  • scoobynacks

The preview clip of Rion’s song sounded better too. That explains why, if you order the XF contestants’ songs based on popularity, “We Belong” is fairly high. A&S and RR are both at the top.

  • carola99

    That´s because is a 1D song.

  • Nedsdag

Ironically, the song “Good Thing” by Fine Young Cannibals playing in the background would have been a great song for Restless Road.

  • ajr86

Simon asked, no, demanded that Restless Road get the pimp spot. After losing Sweet Suspense last week, Simon isn’t gonna lose his fave

  • carola99

Simon is gonna pimp these Restless Road guys so much tonight.
I can already see it. Heh.

  • ajr86

I expect Simon to give a standing O to this mediocre bland Restless Road.

  • carola99

Yeah, most likely.. I still don´t think this group is deserving of more than a top 6 finish..

  • scoobynacks

I’m rocking a serious headache right now. Do I get to blame Simon? It didn’t start til X Factor came on tv.

  • carola99

HE already did once and I bet he will do it again..

  • shell29

And he will declare it brilliant and the performance of the night. LOL

  • Igor F

Yea but still smart move by them to sing it

  • Jon Glass

my fav version of this song is from Drew on Season 1

  • carola99

These guys are just so bland. I don´t get it..

  • ajr86

Even Tim was more exciting than restless road. Boring as hell.

  • LJ

Not a Reckless Road fan, but this was definitely their best performance.

  • carola99

Reckless Road is mediocre at best.

  • listening

Hmm I liked Elona’s tone and she can perform but there were a few vocal problems. It was particularly evident during one of her big runs in the middle of the song it was slightly off and the song felt rushed.

This wasn’t her best but she certainly shouldn’t go home because of this.

  • shell29

I’m not hating but…these guys aren’t sounding good together tonight. Kelly is on point with her criticism.

  • yaddabing

Once again, the only one I really care about is the one in the middle.

The other two could leave, or just take a few steps back and be backing singers.

  • carola99

This group just doesn´t work. Sorry Simon.

  • Eric Ascher

I started cracking up at Zach’s low line. It’s so funny because he is so serious but it just totally kills the mood of the song.

  • H.A.

I wish X-factor would give up the cheesy theme weeks. I would like the contestants to sing songs that work for them and reflect who they will be as artists. Restless Road are so much better when they stick to country.

  • ajr86

Restless Road definitely didn’t deserve the pimp spot.

  • yaddabing

Simon is blowing smoke up his own ass at this point.

  • ajr86

Did anyone really think that Simon would be honest with Restless Road??

  • Lexie O’Neill

There you go. That’s the problem. They’re not seeming comfortable to me because they’re not. They need to be in their lane. I couldn’t even hear their accents. Ugh. Simon.

  • carola99

RR was a mess! Why did they gave them a pimp spot for that performance? Simon must be nervous he might lose them soon.

  • Eric Ascher

and the rest wasn’t so good either.

  • lola

Middle guy must have thought he was on American Idol when he said “we grew up watching this”. LOL!!

  • http://talkinaboutmovies.blogspot.com Brenoga

simon is crazy. he praises Lillie’s performance and then says she has to be worried about being eliminated. oO

  • ajr86

Simon saying Lilly should be worried? He definitely saw the leader board behind the scenes and saw how low she got last week.

  • listening

Are you kidding I loved Rion. I thought she was emotional yet controlled one of her best vocals. Tim is sooooooooo boring he’s gotta go.

  • ajr86

Vote Khaya Cohen! She definitely needs to stay and may be in trouble again.

  • Sephian

yes and now hes trying to get rid of Ellona.

  • shell29

I wouldn’t doubt it. I’m sure he knows the rankings.

  • vd88

Watching Restless Road is like watching American Horror Story!!!

  • nycguy

guess they’re just not showing recaps anymore. So how is the casual voter who doesn’t care to search website reminded of the numbers?

  • shell29

Notice that he called out a finalist from each of the other categories (aside from his groups, of course).

  • H.A.

If I was a label the only acts I would put my money on are Josh, A&S, Restless Road, Carlito. Josh and A&S are ready. With Restless Road I think there is a potential for One Direction like country trio. They are young and cute and the teen girls would go crazy for them. Carlito should target the Latin market. Trust me the latina girls will go nuts for him.

  • Guest
  • Amy Beth

They didn’t get it b/c they deserved it;they got it b/c they needed it.

  • carola99

Restless Road is just not good period, they are trying and trying but no, they are just not believable.
Sometimes manufacturing groups doesn´t work out like these guys.

  • tomr

Lilly was amazing this week. Also liked Alex & Sierra, Rion, Jeff, and Carlito. Ellona and Restless Road were terrible!

  • Clairjain

i think i just watch to see kelly atm switch her with jlo ?on idol plz…. from the acts i cant get over Lille total different level… and Alex is great i find it weird he didnt make it on idol, josh levi is likeable but still never been Amazed by anything he did so far

  • EmmaCT

    Worst. Song choices. Ever.

  • Call_girl

this is the funniest thing I have seen. why are they never singing country!!!!! argh who is simon trying to recreate Lakoda Rayne for god sacks!!!!

  • Matthew Richards

Restless Road is what happens when someone who hates country music tries to assemble a country trio. Hasn’t Simon told us year after year on Idol how much he loathes the genre? It’s like he sat in a room with some stereotype in his head and went, “Oh, this is the kind of crap that country music fans love!” Stick to what you know, Simon.

  • Call_girl

    Agreed completely!

  • carola99

Lillie, Jeff, Carlito and Rion all deserve to stay. Josh was good too.
As for the rest, well they were all pretty bad.
I think Khaya is a goner this week along with either Ellona or Tim.

  • girlygirl

I don’t know if very many teenaged girls areactually looking for a country boy band. Supposedly, country radio play is targeted to the 18-34 male demo. 18-34 year old men are not going to want to listen to or go to a Restless Road concert.

Not to mention, RR isn’t very good

  • Mel432

If you listen to A&S w/o video, the girl sounds off throughout the song.

  • Mafs95

Tonight was slightly better because there was actual criticism! Finally!! Even Paulina was quite tolerable! :o

Regarding the talent… I wasn’t impressed. Here’s what I thought about each performance:

Jeff Gut – Solid vocal but he’s no Freddie Mercury and this song feels a bit weird being cut down to only 2:30 minutes. I don’t know if he’s that popular but I’d guess he’s safe, even though he was given the death spot.

Tim Olstad – Boring. He really has no stage presence, whatsoever. His vocals were decent, at best. I agree with Simon, he should have stayed at the piano. I hope he’s in the Bottom 3, but probably not… *sigh*

Khaya Cohen – I understand that singing a Duffy or a Amy Winehouse song would be very predictable, but it would still be better than this song choice. “Let It Be” is not a song for a 16 year old to sing, because she just doesn’t understand the message of the song properly. Technically, it was a bit shaky in the beginning. I think she might be in trouble, again.

Josh Levi – It was a good performance. He’s definitely safe. I liked how he worked the coreography without letting the vocals get too shaky. It wasn’t perfect, but still quite decent.

Alex and Sierra – I’m one of those that prefers Sierra tone, but tonight she was a bit off with her pitch. It was interesting but the arrangement was slightly predictable and they gave better performances in the past. I wasn’t very impressed, but I still hope they are safe.

Rion Paige – She definitely is not the best singer, whatsoever. Last week, I didn’t like her performance at all. Tonight, on the other hand, I felt like her vocals were quite good. I liked her facial expressions during this performances and I feel like she connected a bit better. She’s probably safe this week.

Carlito Olivero – I didn’t like the song choice. This song is very repetitive and it doesn’t let his vocals shine properly and it’s hard for someone to change it up. Basically, it sounded karaoke. This wasn’t good… at all. He should be in the Bottom 3, but will his good looks keep him safe? Maybe, but I hope not.

Lillie McCloud – This was an amazing performance, in my opinion. She might not be the most commercial act, but at least she can SANG and tonight she did it beautifully. Best performance of the night. I hope she’s safe, since she was tonight the best vocal by a clear mile.

Ellona Santiago – Awful song choice. This song is cute to listen on the radio or in a party with your friends… not to sing in a singing competition. It’s too difficult to keep the pitch on point once the chorus begins. It fell really flat and it’s a shame, because Ellona is actually a decent singer. I think it ended up better and it wasn’t bad, but she needs better song choices if she survives this week.

Restless Road – Should I really evaluate them or the backing tracks? Really Simon, haven’t you learned your leasson from Sweet Suspense? The one in the middle is the best one, but that doesn’t mean he’s anything special. They are not that good.

  • elliegrll

So, it’s British invasion night, but for the most part the contestants sang the same old tired songs that should be retired from these reality shows. That doesn’t give me a lot of hope for Fox’s other singing competition show.

  • iluvai

I’m glad there is another double elimination tomorrow. It keeps things somewhat interesting.

  • Guest

Although her English still sucks she got sassy at Simon at a couple times and was funny

  • macfae

Alex and Sierra are at # 103 on iTunes now
    Good for them !!

  • AngieSetMefree?

Sierra was a little off at the beginning but overall, I think Alex and Sierra did great. IMO they had the best performance. I immediately downloaded their song. So good.

Their version of Best Song Ever is now #28 in itunes pop Canada. It’s prolly higher in the US

  • Guest

#29. Best Song Ever (The X Factor USA Performance) – Alex & Sierra

  • macfae

at the moment it is #65 in the US in Overall – #29 in Pop
Which seem really good ….I bought it. My only XFactor purchase ever.
Sierra sounds good on the recording but to me she sounded sharp through most of the performance

  • Blueknight24

I’m just waiting Alex and Sierra win this thing. :)

  • Blueknight24

Is this the only song charted on iTunes?

  • Bazzle

Lol is it sad that I think that Alex and Sierra even by themselves have the two most interesting voices out of everyone in the competition. They could be solo and they’d probs be my favourite contestants. Tbh by this time in the season I would change my mind about contestants previously I had no interest in… and its only happening for Alex and Sierra who I didn’t think were that good a singers at first…. but now they singing just as good as some of these solo acts if not better. Plus, they actually got interesting tones.

  • WestiesRule

The only act I really like is Alex and Sierra. I felt like she was a step (or beat) behind at times. Josh Levi will be great with some honing and Kaya Cohen has a chance also with the right label and mentoring. I’m just not interested in any of the rest. Poor Carlito… Paulina is like the CeeLo of the XFactor (bad song choices and not always the best advice)

  • mfcg1122

I feel there is some good talent on here however I feel what hurts them is the crazy theme weeks they have. If they let each contestant sing songs from their genre and show the public what type of artists they are and what type of music they want to put out would be more interesting. It would allow us to vote better on who does have real talent instead of who has a pretty or handsome face.

  • elliegrll

The theme weeks make for better tv. They also, or should, make contestants stretch themselves. The problem is that many contestants don’t know how to re-work the songs to fit their style, so they fall into the karaoke trap, or sound like they are trying to imitate the original artist.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

    LMAO!

  • ladymctech

A singing hamster at a piano? I’m sorry I didn’t tune in now, LOL. I think Simon is overpraising Carlito and uber-criticizing Tim to encourage the public to give Tim the boot.

  • Eilonwy_has_an_emu

Theme weeks made “better TV” on Idol, years ago, when the idea was new. Indeed, this season of XFUSA appears to be simply repeating themes from Idol S6.

The theme week train is tapped out — partly because the themes have gotten too familiar, partly because the themes focus largely on music of the contestants’ grandparents’ youth, but mostly because producers think it’s a huge lol to go in directions where the contestants have no idea what to do with the music.

They CAST contestants with X amount of musical knowledge and then they put them in situations where X is not sufficient.

Instead of having a contest where it appears that strong talents are going head-to-head, we’re given the appearance of a bunch of stumblebums who think they can sing.

Arguably, the problem is producer decisions rather than simply having themes, but it’s when the themes get dragged out that the problems become most obvious.

  • AngieSetMefree?

Based on last night, seems like it. Currently Their song is now #18 on itunes pop Canada. Its slowly climbing

  • gem2477

    Rion was awesome :)

  • macfae

yes – looks as if A&S were the only ones and don’t you know that Simon is all over that !.

as of now – on iTunes Overall
    29 – Alex and Sierra

    (281 & 303 A&S songs from previous weeks)

    309 – Restless Road
    326 – Rion Page
    429 – Lillie McCloud
    691 – Jeff Gutt

  • Karen C

I watched Jeff’s performance again, and I thought he was really good, at first I didn’t like it because the song was too chopped up, but it wasn’t his choice. He did a great job with what he was given.
