X Factor 3 Meet the Top 12 – Photos and Videos

Did you watch the X Factor “Meet the Top 12″ episode last night on FOX? It was purely a clip show, so fluffy that it wouldn’t have made a difference if a 7th World Series game bumped it off the schedule.

Indeed, the ratings dipped below 1.0 with only 3.5 million viewers tuning in. Ouch!

But in case your Halloween revelry got in the way of watching the special, here is a handy guide to the Top 12 PLUS clips from last night’s show. The finals begin next week on Wednesday, November 6. Viewers will finally have a say in the outcome, and voting begins, with a finalist sent home on Thursday, November 7.

Will you be watching? Who are your favs? Simon Cowell is gunning for Restless Road, the country boy band. Watch out for some heavy pimping there. Kelly’s Over 25s are pretty talented. I expect some major bussing of those contestants. Simon is looking for a viable winner with STAR potential to save his sinking X Factor US ship.

The girls are stronger than the boys.  Khaya and Ellona are young, inexperienced singers, but they have potential. Rion, the walking sob story, may stick around based on sympathy votes.

The boys are a bit of a wreck. If the grannies are watching, they could keep the earnest, but mildly talented Tim in longer than his sell date. Sir Mac will have more when he posts his power list later!

oh, so they finally decided to mention lillie’s previous dance hits? of course it had to be during the one show they knew no one would watch LOL

  • http://mjsbigblog.staging.wpengine.com/ mjsbigblog

Out of the 17 artists in the Top 12, 10 of them–over half–are teenagers.

  • c???s

I’m soo dang tired of this BS “pity” votes that many say towards Rion. She has a fantastic voice.

  • Amy Beth

Since the Overs are by definition 25+, it’s 10 out of a possible 14.

  • http://www.glitzngrits.com/ AlesheaDominique

I really think Restless Road, Alex and Sierra, Jeff Gutt and Rachel Potter are the ones to look out for. That’s my final four prediction

  • Anny_nanny

My choice for each group: Ellona (if Demi is not drown her), Carlito, Jeff (if Rachel not be able to play a “dark horse”) and Sweet Suspense (the greatest potential in groups, after that it became clear that Simon still does not understand anything in the country).

  • Kamokunz

I think this is why I love this show more than Voice. Watching “Teens” trying to ‘make it’.

  • Ronnie D

The one guy with the blue shirt on in Restless Road, is a star. I haven’t been watching this religiously but the few times I have seen these guys, he has stood out to me.

  • Mel432

    Mediocre voice, lousy singer.

  • MV007

“Rion, the walking sob story, may stick around based on sympathy votes.”

I wholeheartedly agree with this and I feel terrible for it. It’s really an impossible situation because the girl deserves something great in her life but she’s just not very good.

I didn’t watch this special but did Carlos have any ticks? I only ask because they were noticeably absent during the show on tuesday. I’m not implying he doesn’t have tourettes but is it possible it was played up a little by the producers during the audition rounds? It manifested itself every time he was on camera and then the live shows come and nothing.

  • Kenneth Chow

i think i’ll replace Jeff with Ellona

How i rank the top 12 as how i think they will rank (in my opinion)

    12) Tim Olstad – i just feel like despite a great voice, he has next to little or no stage presence and will come off as boring and forgettable

    11) Rion Paige – potentially could do well, but she is competing with 2 other country acts that seem a lot stronger and also she is competing for the sympathy vote against Carlos, so…she has a lot of competition…she just doesn’t seem ready or polished enough

    10) Lillie McCloud – this is tough one to rank, but looking at the competition and who could appeal to the audience, i think her amazing voice might not be enough for her to get too far…Lillie is starting to become a bit of a bore that just sings big ballads every week that is starting to make her feel dated and old…she needs to do something more current, just because she can sing big ballads doesn’t mean she should do it every week…

    9) Carlito Olivero – this guy is someone i don’t think the audience will love as much as the judges do…i think he is the singing dancing Usher type that we already have a million of…problem is i don’t see anything different that i haven’t seen before…and plus he doesn’t have a great voice or unique one to carry him through…

    8) Sweet Suspense – based on the twitter voters, they could potentially do really well…but i feel like there is just a lot of competition this year and this group haven’t really had any great performances and they just don’t seem like a polished group…

    7) Jeffrey Gutt – #6 and #7 were tough to rank and went back and forth with Khaya and Jeffrey a million times, but i eventually ended up putting Jeffrey at #7…he could potentially do really well, but based on the demographic that seems to watch the x-factor…i think there are more popular acts than him…his style is not going to be for everyone’s liking and that is another problem…

    6) Khaya Cohen – this girl has loads of potential and has an amazing voice…i initially thought she wasn’t going to be a popular contestant, but if twitter was an indication i may be wrong…she has a unique voice that is hard to find and she is in the age group where i feel like people that watch the show will relate to…however, she does have the same problem as Jeff in which her style is not to everyone’s liking and that is a problem

    5) Carlos Guervara – this guy has a good voice and will get the sympathy votes which will take him far, he is extremely likable, however, i do not feel he has enough presence to be able to win or a good enough voice, but he is bound to go far…

    4) Alex & Sierra – they have a unique sound and the audience will like the fact they are a couple, they will be very into the whole lovy dovy thing…i do think they have a chance to win., but i feel like there are a couple of others with a bigger chance…

    3) Ellona Santiago – she is the ultimate package…she has a great voice, she can command a stage and she can dance…definitely has a shot at winning, i think she could be an artist right now…and girls can relate to her…problem = she is not country…

    2) Rachel Potter – for starters, she is country, she has a great voice and can do so much with it and she seems the most polished of all the country acts and knows what direction she wants to go…her problem is Restless Road….

    1) Restless Road – they are the ultimate unbeatable robots…they are boys, girls will go crazy over them…and they are country, so those people will vote for them too….and the judges are already pushing for them to win…will they push too hard…???

    NOW DISAGREE ALL YOU WANT…HAHA

The Boys category are indeed the weakest this year, if I was Paulina I wouldn’t have put through Tim and Carlos. I would’ve kept Alberto and Timmy Thames. This is the X-Factor after all and its about the package, not the story. The UK version wasn’t afraid to get rid of Jade Richards or Melanie McCabe over Abi Holton and Tamera Foster.

  • Blackbeat

Well the show does have a larger demograph of teenagers and young adults viewers than The Voice.

  • Karen C

I agree with most of your list, but would rate Jeffrey Gutt much higher, perhaps even #2 or 3. I think there is an audience that likes his kind of music that watches these show, and that he has a lot of potential to be a real game changer, like Daughtry, David Cook, Adam Lambert were on Idol. Last year I saw some of his covers on youtube after seeing him on the show and thought he was that good. I am not sure if this will come through on the show, or if it will pick up the audience the same way, especially if the show really does have a young demographic.

  • hcpoirot

Simon will use all strategies to make Restless Road the winner. So we will had them always be in pimp spot each week or before the pimp spot . Then the singers who had the strongest votes beside them will always sing first or second.

Not to mention, other acts will get thrown under the bus by Simon.

  • khomphuong2

I agree with most of your list, but i would put Jeff Gutt and Alex&Sierra higher. Restless Road (although I am not big of their fan), Jeff and Alex&Sierra are top 3 for me.

  • shell29

I agree that he’ll pimp his country boys to the hilt, but I don’t think it’ll matter (except perhaps to Simon’s ego) whether Restless Road wins. Win or lose Simon will pull out all the stops in hopes of making them an X Factor US success story. Now whether they’ll catch on and become breakout stars for the show remains to be seen.

  • shell29

I didn’t bother to watch but then I never watch these recap shows.

Maybe I’m still a little salty about one my faves being sent home (James Kenney) but I’m not that excited about this Top 12. Of the 12, there are three that I’ll be watching with some interest-Lillie, Jeff & Ellona. I’m still on the Lillie bandwagon, but if she keeps singing tired ballads she might lose me. Jeff: I’m on the fence about him because his style of music isn’t always my cup of tea. I think he could win me over though-I wasn’t crazy about his Top 16 song choice but I liked the energy he brought to his performance. Stop playing the kid card though. Ellona: if she can manage being an upbeat performer without sacrificing her vocals she’ll be great. She didn’t quite pull it off last time IMO but the potential is there. A for effort. I think I’ll add Khaya to the mix too: really like her voice but her performance skills need a little work.

As for the rest, I really don’t care that much. I’m curious about whether the backstory fumes will finally run out for Rion & Carlos once the audience gets to vote. I don’t get the Alex & Sierra love (as singers I think I like Alex more than Sierra). Paulina is still dumb for keeping Tim-even Susan Boyle is more exciting.

I’m not sure whether this season’s Top 12 is better than last season’s but I think the ratings will continue to suffer.
