The X Factor Pepsi Challenge poll to choose which songs the Top 6 finalists will perform has closed.  The contestants will also be performing a second song to be chosen by their respective mentors.

In no particular order…heh…here are the songs YOU chose for the remaining 6 X Factor finalists.

  • Carly Rose Sonenclar – “If I Were A Boy” by Beyonce
  • Fifth Harmony – “Give Your Heart a Break” by Demi Lovato
  • Diamond White – “Diamonds” by Rihanna
  • CeCe Frey – “Part of Me” by Katy Perry
  • Tate Stevens – If Tomorrow Never Comes by Garth Brooks
  • Emblem3 – “Forever Young” by Bob Dylan

Fans will also be able to help choose elements of the performance like costuming, staging, acoustics etc. More information can be found HERE.

Hm.. Bob Dylan? I was hoping it was Alphaville’s “Forever Young”. Meh.

  • chessguy99

Not so sure that is the Bob Dylan “Forever Young”. The Alphaville song was to be One Direction’s winner single in XF-UK S7. The Alphaville song is the basis for Jay-Z’s song of the same name.

If it is the Dylan song, E3 probably got the worse pick. That song just doesn’t work for them, even taking it up-tempo as I’ve heard some people cover it.

Tate and Carly got the best songs.

Most looking forward to how they’ll re-arrange Forever Young and if they could incorporate rap in it.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Fifth Harmony needs to do something SASSY.  That’s what’s missing for me.  They’ve got the voices but all I’m getting a bland, goody-girls from them.  Spice Girls were family friendly sassy, Destiny’s Child – soulful sassy, Pussycat Dolls – sexy sassy, TLC – urban sassy.

Where is the SASS!?  They’ve probably been warned off of it by Simon for fear of viewers incorrectly interpreting sass as cocky and/or attitude problem.

    I guess that’s why I find them blands-ville.

Pretty sure “Forever Young” is the Alphaville song.  I doubt Bob Dylan would ever clear any of his music for X-Factor.  And I sure as hell doubt the producers would voluntarily make it an option.

Simon isn’t original.  He put that in there because that was supposed to be 1D’s winners single (it got leaked anyways).

And, YES, there is a rap version.  Jay Z covered it.  I’m sure Emblem 3 will use that version.

I wanted Carly to do “Your Song”…

  • http://twitter.com/JonKills Jon Glass

    This MAY be Cece’s week.

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

Wtf Xfactor. I was really confused when they didn’t even put up the artist for the songs. I mean how are people supposed to base a decision if they think its a different song. So much for ‘we’ choose. I was also under the impression that it was the other Forever Young pretty sure everyone else was too.

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

That is exactly spot on. Their talents are being wasted on SASSless songs.

  • lithee

Forever Young is the Alphaville song, not Bob Dylan. The artists were listed here:

Although, Josh Krajcik did sing Forever Young by Bob Dylan last year so it has been cleared for X-Factor before.

  • blackberryharvest

I will predict how the night will go…

Diamond White will sing a slowed down version of the song, Cece Frey will be pitchy, have over the top production, and the judges will rip her apart, Emblem 3 will be told they are original, Fifth Harmony will “make Demi proud,” Tate will be called the next big country superstar, and Carly will get the pimp spot, standing O’s and will be told that was the best performance they have ever heard and sang it even better than Beyonce.

  • SharB715

I hope you mean her week to go home.

  • Benjamin Morris

So glad Carly didn’t get “Your Song,” even though she probably would have killed it.

  • Benjamin Morris

Assuming that’s the Alphaville version of Forever Young, pretty much everyone but Carly got a song straight out of their genre.

So that got me thinking, with all the discussion of Carly’s Broadway experience, I’d like to see X-Factor just go all out and have a show tunes week.
Here’s Carly singing On My Own when she was 7: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IQCLmpt3uYc And here she is taking on Liza Minelli with The Money Tree: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nle2vKAVHzU

As for other contestants, this news segment has a snippet of Diamond White singing And I Am Telling You when she was around 8 or 9:

  • lukien

    Amen sister! Yay for sass!

  • http://twitter.com/DenverInsomniac ???I???

I agree. However, if it is Alphaville, I think they probably have the best pick. We shall see.

The CeCe Frey comparisons to Katy Perry are, for the most part, very insulting. To Katy Perry. I don’t deny some resemblance, but not to the good parts of Katy Perry.

Anyway, this should be a good week then. I may catch it. It seems like when contestants/fans get the choice, the show’s a lot better.

I’m sorry I just don’t see Carly pulling off If I were A Boy. That’s like the exact opposite of her. The attitude and the passion has to be pulled from like an almost primal place. There’s a gut wrenching fierceness required to do it well. And I’ve just never seen that trait in Carly’s depths her passion comes from a more dramatic serene place not as tough /gritty/ fierce  as some songs need especially that one.

It’ll be interesting to see how she tries to handle this. Maybe she’ll shock me.

  • kcostell

Funny…I saw it as the biggest gimme of any song on any of the lists.  Sing it with big enough pipes, and you’ll get praise and a standing o regardless of whether there’s any real passion behind it or not.

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

Well the girl certainly shocked me with Rolling in the Deep. I seriously thought she was not gonna be able to pull it off. But she was very smart about it. Girl knows her strengths. I actually somewhat agree with this. If she were to flip it then it would be good. Otherwise that’s why I chose I Just Can’t Stop Loving You. She has the tone to pull it off and do a good homage version. But in these shows they always like the BIG songs and Simon doesn’t seem to appreciate subtlety very much otherwise how could he think the 1st half of rolling in the deep wasn’t just as good as the 2nd.

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

Old CeCe (the one who can stay on pitch and even the brown hair) actually reminded me of a non-trashy version of Kesha who has much better pipes. Now she just reminds me of Kesha just a little less trashy. She needs the brown hair back.

  • ellen8

Like she’ll learn how to stay on pitch somehow this week?

  • ellen8

It’s Carly’s turn to show some diversity.  If I Were A Boy will certainly challenge her but I predict she’ll do something fantastic with it !!

  • kmd23

I think that you just nailed it. That is how the show will go. lol

  • Listening

That’s the thing I didn’t believe Carly when she sang Rolling In The deep. She just rode the surface of that song’s emotions and made it airy instead of singing it w/ some  powerful deep emotion. And When I say powerful deep emotion I don’t mean belt out a power note I mean put some umph behind your notes draw some passion from your belly and let it flood from your throat into your song. That girl just glided on the surface. She tried to do too much w/ that song, every note was precise and it felt a bit choppy, their was no real passion in the notes she just went through the motions. She sang every note perfect though, I just didn’t believe what she sang.

  • thedeviledadvocate

I agree, its time for Carly to show some diversity. Since the fans want Carly to ask the question “If I Were A Boy”, Britney should ask can Carly sing country?

Set the stage: Carly sitting on a porch or a bale of hay, wearing ragged jeans, a white t-shirt under an unbuttoned blue plaid shirt knotted at the waist, barefoot, hair in pigtails under a straw hat, with a guitar (that she doesn’t need to play) either by her side or on her lap. Camera moves in for a close up, Carly looking sad, then she starts singing “It was the third of June, another sleepy dusty delta day.” It doesn’t get any more country than Bobby Gentry’s “Ode to Billy Joe” I think Carly could have a “moment” with this song, and perhaps pilfer some of Tate’s massive country votes.

  • Matt G

I think Emblem 3 definitely got the best choice. They could have a moment with Forever Young if they do a good arrangement.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

CeCe is going to kill Part of Me in a good way. She’s got a video of her doing that one and it is actually good.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

    no…just no!

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

Everyone got good songs but Douchebag3 and Tate. I’m completely fine with that. CeCe got the best song.

  • http://twitter.com/5th_harmony Lea Loves 1432! 1/5

I’m quite happy for 5h & Carly’s song. I agree that 5H needs to show some sass. & Demi was right last week- they just stand there and sing. Come on gurls, work it.
I hope Carly does something nice with the song. I’m sure it’ll be great no matter what- but I had hope she goes uptempo next week.

  • sumidol

I see the comparisons, Katie is always pitchy and off key live but always entertaining  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QO48FGESV0&playnext=1&list=PL1ZuohJOdFwQYwlK9H2GlSZuLdEIt9pZV&feature=results_main

  • http://twitter.com/bluinjewin Landon Cox

Idol wishes it could get songs this current though

  • Montavilla

This all reminds me of those DWTS build-a-dance stunts.  Where the viewers get to vote on which DWTS alumni dances / with X pro / in X style / to X music.

I guess this lets the audience have the fun of playing mentor.  Instead of Emblem 3 being Simon’s pawns, they get to be the audience’s puppets.  Especially since the website is even allowing the viewers to suggest the style in which the song is done.  (Give it an acoustic twist!  Why not!)

It’s a fun exercise, but it really does reinforce the idea that these contestants are simply playthings, rather than artists.

  • HermeticallySealed

Too bad doing so hasn’t helped X-factor n the least when it comes to pulling in viewers.
