X Factor 2 – Top 12 Results, Recap and Video

Recapping the X Factor Results RIGHT HERE. DOUBLE ELIMINATION.

OMG. Lyric 145 is eliminated!
Jennel Garcia is Eliminated

I’ve come to the conclusion that if Simon Cowell can’t get it right by now, he never will. I think a big part of the problem is that he doesn’t understand American audiences. American Idol was produced by Brits who understood and appreciated American optimism. The aspirational nature of Idol is what makes it work. Sure, there’s some snark during the audition phase, but once the competition was underway, the tone turned earnest. Putting the group through the double humiliation of elimination, and then the voting ranking, is just too much. There is a mean tone to X Factor that my fly in Europe. But in the US, it’s no wonder that The Voice, with it’s cheerleading coaches and nurturing air is doing better in the ratings.

Also part of the problem are the heavy-duty manipulation of the finalists. The producers and mentors are doing a horrible job putting together performances for the contenders. Jennel Garcia and Lyric 145 left this week because they were basically sabotaged by and saddled with terrible song choice and production. It’s a shame, because there is talent in this group, but nearly all of them seem to be shoehorned into images that don’t fit them as artists. It’s pathetic, really. X Factor UK is NOT awful. I have to question who Simon has helping him behind the scenes.

So, yeah, I was giving X Factor a chance this year. The edited shows were well done and entertaining as fake docu-drama, but it’s all fallen apart since the live shows began. Khloe Kardashian is the worst host ever, shouting at the contestants, struggling with the teleprompter, talking over Mario. But Simon purposely hired a host without experience. It shouldn’t be a surprise that she sucks.

Knowing how the contestants voting rank week to week is initially interesting, but ultimately robs the contest of any surprise or mystery. So now we know that Tate, Carly and Vino will be the final three. Y’all can stop watching now!

Also, Beatrice Miller is headed for a Rachel Crow like meltdown x infinity. That’s going to be really ugly when it happens.

Ohhhh. The voting rankings will be revealed again tonight! Taylor Swift will perform. First a recap of last night’s performances.

The Top 12 acts take the stage.

FIRST ACT IS LEAVING THE COMPLETION RIGHT NOW. After the break. Ugh. Seascrest can get away with that “….after the break” shite. You, Mario, are no Ryan Seacrest.

The act with the lowest number of votes is…Lyric 145. Ugh. I knew they wouldn’t last long, but I thought they had a week or two more. They really got screwed with their song choice this week. (Read more about that here)

Taylor Swift performs “State Of Grace” for the first time live.

Stumble over those words, Khloe (She’s awful)

The remaining contestants take the stage with their mentors. Who is safe? Announced in no particular order. Arin is safe. He looks real surprised. CeCe breaks into tears when she learns that she’s safe. Fifth Harmony, Jennel Garcia and Paige Thomas are left.

After the break, we learn that Fifth Harmony is safe.

Paige Thomas and Jennel Garcia will sing for their lives!

Jennel Garcia performs “The Reason” by Hoobastank – This is better than anything she’s done on the live show so far. It’s pitchy in spots, but heartfelt. It just goes to show how overbearing the manipulation is on this show. It strips the artists of their personality.

Paige Thomas performs “Paradise” by Coldplay – She’s also the best she’s been in weeks. Honestly, I think whoever survives tonight should REVOLT against the producers and their crappy choices. The people handling these finalists have their heads up their butts.

The judges choose who to send home.

LA Reid sends home Jennel Garcia
Britney Spears sends home Jennel Garcia
Simon Cowell wants Demi to go first. Mario says NO. Cowell refuses to choose until Demi does. Mario says testily, “You’re the boss.” Whoa.
Demi Lovato  refuses to go next. THIS FAKE FIGHT IS LAME. She relents and sends home Paige. I’m betting that choice had to do with forcing Simon’s hand.
Simon Cowell sends home Jennel Garcia.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m interested to see if they reveal the vote rankings this week again.

ETA: “Ohhhh. The voting rankings will be revealed again tonight!”

    Oh really? Cool! lol

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

    Bum. mer. :(

  • SullyD

    RIP Lyric 145 :(
This show won’t be as fun anymore.

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

    Wait? No final showdown?

  • fuzzywuzzy

Lyric 145 are gone? I’m glad that Lyric spoke up about the screw up with their song choice. It may not have made a difference in their elimination though because from the ratings, it appears that the people who like hip hop/rap are poorly represented in the X-Factor viewing demographic.

ETA: And there’s Khloe, aggressively asking them how they feel without any sensitivity whatsover.

  • iluvai

The pacing of this show is awkward.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

    Mother ****er.

This show can go to hell.

  • Nasstopher

Lyric 145?? After last night’s train wreck of a performance?? SHOCKER!! LOL.

  • jlscott13

Not for the first person to get the boot. The next 2 bottom vote getters will have a showdown.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IYMZ43XMLLAE6RVHJS4M6KNC5Y Dennis

BOO, for entertainment factor alone, I wanted them to stay in. :(

  • shell29

Sorry to see Lyric145 gone so soon.  I didn’t know that they were planning to perform some original lyrics this week.  It might not have made a difference but at least they would have been able to show us more of what they can really do.  I wonder why it was yanked at the last minute?

  • Chris

That was surprising – I think Lyric145 just had a bad song last night but they are talented and could fit the music scene with the right management.

I like their attitude too, she’s always positive.

  • girlygirltoo

well I have no reason to watch this show with Lyric145 gone now.

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

Yeah. But Mario just said that its 100% based on our vote. Unless I heard wrong. No mention of the judges.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that they will just do a bottom two, like on Idol, and that will create suspense.

  • shell29

I think he means that the bottom two will be based on the vote.  Who actually gets sent home will be decided by the judges (unless they go to deadlock).

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Watching Taylor Swift…Lyric 145 is more entertaining than her.

Makes me want to hear Lyric’s take on “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together.”

  • Chris

    Oh Taylor.  Little pitchy, dawg.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Taylor needs to hold that mic as close to her mouth as possible (unless she’s lip synching).

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

    there we go. survival.

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

    much better.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

I had a feeling Lyric 145 weren’t going to last long, which is a damn shame. I wish I didn’t have to FEEL that. Just like last year how a lot of people felt P2 was going to win after his audition in American Idol (although, to be fair, he did finish the competition well).

Shameful. Lyric 145 gets screwed, and now the show just gets THAT much more boring. Not like these shows are supposed to be tailor-made for me anyway, but it does seem like there’s some supernatural force telling me to stop watching American Idol and The X Factor (I never got into The Voice :P)

  • FinalFantasy13

in taylors defense i thought her song and vocals were much better at the cma’s… tonight though didnt care for either..

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that the sound mixing isn’t good on the X-Factor. The background/tracks/band are often drowning out the singers. They have the mix much better on The Voice.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Taylor Swift is so boring. Her popularity baffles me.

  • teekee

Not surprised about Lyric 145, but I certainly wanted to see more from them. To me, they are interesting.

  • SullyD

    Nicki centric Idol promo <3

  • fuzzywuzzy

Khloe is still a bad host. She’s just not quite as horrible as she was at first. lol

  • Nasstopher

I don’t understand why everyone is complaining about Lyrics 145 leaving the show, you guys should’ve voted for them instead of blaming everything on others. Plus, they had a horrible night last night, from the song choice to the production to everything.

  • shell29

Khloe has to go.  Steve Jones was never this bad.  At least he was an enjoyable trainwreck at times.  Khloe is just painful.

  • iluvai

I can’t stand the way they are dragging this show out.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Cece is through? Her sob story must have worked. lol

  • SullyD

Oh dear, I think Jennel is screwed.

  • shell29

I get the feeling Jennel was expecting CeCe to be safe.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yeah, I have a bad feeling about Jennel.

  • Nasstopher

Arin, Beatrice and CeCe are all safe?? WTF???!!!
I think the bottom two are Paige and Jennel.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

Not like I had time to vote anyway. That’s another issue, having to vote for so long for your contestant to have some hope is really f***ing annoying, especially come finale time on Idol when you have 4 hours.

The “bad night” stuff is a bit annoying, too. For one, it seems like most people here had the perception that it was more of the production than them (for the record, their performance wasn’t good). For two, billions of contestants (not literally) have survived much worse nights throughout all of Idol.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VCEZD3N6FHT6AVC6TG7VKTBONQ Raftrap

Disgusting, Lyric 145 made the show fun, I guess I’ll just stick to hoping they bring back Cheryl Cole next season, cause the show is quickly losing my interest.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IYMZ43XMLLAE6RVHJS4M6KNC5Y Dennis

Jennell is probably at the bottom she went 1st

  • http://twitter.com/georgiarealist Susan Burge

And Steve was a lot prettier.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Nasstopher, you’re right.  Honestly, there are acts out there I like better, and they all made it through this week.  I guess I could have thrown a few votes out for Lyric 145.  But not at the expense at an act I thought was in bigger trouble (hello, Arin Ray).

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I think it was more the judges throwing Cece under the bus and the fans powervoting. I really didn’t want she survived in the competition because somehow I think it isn’t the best for her. The same with Beatrice.

  • teekee

    I think Paige is out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Demi is losing an act tonight.  No way will Simon lose two groups in the second week.

  • http://twitter.com/mwk89 Matthew Kitson

Arin, Cece, Beatrice all safe? wtf

  • http://www.celebritybug.net/ Amanda (Celebrity Bug)

Just got to say, Britney has been looking pretty amazing since the live shows started.

  • shell29

If both of Demi’s acts are in the bottom two, I wonder who she would choose to save?  Or would she pull a Louis and not chose between her girls?

  • http://www.celebritybug.net/ Amanda (Celebrity Bug)

Janelle and Paige are in trouble.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

    Bye Paige.

  • Nasstopher

Hopefully this would be a wake up call for Demi and her mentoring skills.
    It’s 100% her fault, IMO.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that you may be right about that. The combination of Jennel going first and not being bussed led to poor voting for her.

  • SullyD

     Suddenly, it’s 2003 again.

  • shell29

Wow, what a trainwreck this live show is.  This is a mess.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/IYMZ43XMLLAE6RVHJS4M6KNC5Y Dennis

That’s exactly how I felt. I could’ve voted for Lyric 145 but I was more worried about Arin Ray so I voted for him.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Don’t get me started. Absolutely nuts! My mouth dropped when Arin was called.

  • Tera2

Its time for Jennell Garcia to go home.  Paige shouldn’t have been in bottom.  Beatrice and Cece were worse last night.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Geez. That was bad, Jennel. She’s capable of so much better than that.

  • http://twitter.com/Stooch101 Stooch

she hated “proud Mary” but like that song choice Hmmmmmm

  • mickey__mouseolini

I’m surprised that CeCe made it through.  Her performance was terrible, but don’t get me wrong.  I like her.   I hope she tells Lovato to stick her mentoring where the Sun don’t shine.   CeCe needs to go back to being CeCe.   The real CeCe is polarizing….but she’s not unwatchable and unlistenable, which is what Demi Lovato’s mentoring has turned her into.

As for Lyric 145.   Same thing.  Genius to put them together, but then terrible mentoring after the fact destroyed them.

Anyways….X Factor USA is a cluster****.   I can’t even watch it.   I’d rather just pop in and catch the updates here, and watch the occasional video.

It’s bad TV in the worst sense of the description.

  • SullyD

Jennel is so likeable. Demi really did her no favours.

  • shell29

I think Jenell is a goner.

  • Nasstopher

The only thing got from Jennel Garcia’s performance is that Tara Simon got robbed in the judges’ houses (not that Jennel took her place or anything) but she sang the song waaaaaay better!!

  • Tera2

Paige has a very good recording voice that you can hear on radio with hits.  That’s why she deserves to stay.  She and Arin Ray have the star potential and I like them.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Kesia, I have a feeling we’ll see Arin in 9th place tonight.

I think they ususually announce the lowest safe contestant first.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

    This show is unintentionally hilarious.

  • SullyD

    SIMON SAVE JENNELL

  • http://twitter.com/toastyred Sara Traynor

Ugh Simon, making it about some petty rivalry with Demi when those poor young girls are up there waiting for him to determine their future.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

I liked Demi until she had to mentor.

It looks like for the rest of the show I’ll be checking on Carly.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

    This is so fucking stupid.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

    LOL Simon!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

  • http://twitter.com/ronnydias Ronny Dias

    Seriously, Simon?! WTF!!!

  • fuzzywuzzy

    This is such BS.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

    Well played, Demi. Well played.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

    So rehearsed this BS. lol

  • fuzzywuzzy

Sorry, but Demi is largely responsible for Jennell leaving this early.

  • Tera2

I’ll be surprised if Arin is 9th place.  All his fans were voting last night and he was the only contestant that was trending.  Britney gave him boring song but he made the best out of it.  Arin is a performer with star potential and should be around.

  • lukien

Cece is safe, really? Above both Jennell and Paige? Wow she becomes one of those contenstants in idols that i usually like first at the beginning but then i will be so irritated later on and just wish she’s gone asap.

  • SullyD

Lyric and Jennell in one day. America really hates me, lol.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

Two of my favorite auditions gone in a day because their mentors are shit. Rofl.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

Jennel should try for Idol. LOL

  • http://twitter.com/KWOnlyDreaming Karen W.

This show is so friggin annoying!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Oh, so revealing the vote ranking is just a ratings ploy.

  • Kitwana

Does anyone need any more proof that the “banter” between Simon and Demi is scripted? That Simon & Demi “fight” at the end was so fake. X-Factor: if you won’t to script the judges, that’s fine. Just get them better acting coaches.

  • http://twitter.com/desireechick Kesia Monteith

I wish you could hear me cackle! LOL.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

Paige over Jennel?? WTF? Paige comes across as a clone of Rihanna, no charisma, mediocre singer and her fanbase is much smaller than Jennel and Paige. I have no idea what this show is doing but it’s becoming interesting. A little bit sad, also.

  • justmefornow

I never ever bought Jennel as a rocker. That being said, there are bigger worse trainwrecks still there.
They should just start eliminating more than one a week and put everyone out of their misery faster and end this total joke of a show.
Wow, this is really a crapfest!

  • http://www.celebritybug.net/ Amanda (Celebrity Bug)

People please stop talking about Lyric 145, they should have been sent packing after the first live performance.

  • elliegrll

Demi should have refused to give an answer, that’s what some judges on the UK X Factor have done.

The old Jennel was great.  She’s one of the few female contestants who has seemed to know how to incorporate sex appeal into her performances.  Unfortunately, that all went away when the live shows started.

  • shell29

Sorry, but Demi is largely responsible for Jennell leaving this early.

Yep.  She’ll probably be the first mentor to loses all of her acts.  CeCe and Paige aren’t long for this competition.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Kathleen-Moore/100001271239732 Kathleen Moore

Agree with you Tera2 about the star quality.  :)  Hope you’re right.  He had a horrible song choice.  Just a gut feeling.  Again, I hope I’m wrong.

We’ll find out in a minute.

  • Nasstopher

Who knew that Jennel would be the first young adult to leave the show?
Simon is such a douche bag. First choosing Jennel to sing first last night, and tonight did not let it go to deadlock.
Jennel got screwed by Simon and Demi. Poor her.

  • fuzzywuzzy

True. SO lame. If they’re going to try to sell this scripted crap, they need to learn to be more convincing.

  • Tera2

I cant believe Demi wanted to send Paige home and keep Jennel.  Paige is only one with star potential she has in her group.  No wonder she cut off Paige’s hair – she trying to sabotage her.  Demi is an obnoxious girl and too young to be judging a big show.  And she can hardly sing herself.  Paige has a better recording voice than Demi.

  • http://twitter.com/maria4hitz maria lopez

Of course it is just for ratings…

  • elliegrll

It would have made more sense to give the order during at the same time that they announced who is safe.   It seems very awkward doing it at the end of the show.

  • shell29

Wasn’t that whole exchange awful?  Mario wasn’t much better.  Simon, you’re gonna have to do better than that.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Cece’s performance last night was horrible, Demi.

  • SullyD

CeCe is in 5th place, lol. She needs some drama every week in order to survive.

  • http://twitter.com/georgiarealist Susan Burge

Sitting here trying to figure out why I watch this show. It’s slow (had trouble staying awake during the ridiculously drawn out announcement of which acts are safe) and aggravating, but there’s just an unpleasant feel about it. Maybe it’s the way the judges “decisions” are done at the end, maybe the horrible hosting, but it feels mean. Neither The Voice or Idol ever felt this way to me.

  • http://twitter.com/eric_ascher Eric Ascher

I’m beyond pissed with X Factor now. My favorite is gone. Thanks America, and thanks Simon. I’m only watching on youtube now for Carly.

  • shell29

The top two is the same as last week.  Pretty safe bet who’ll be in the finale.

LOL…Tate #1 again.  Let the WGWG grumbling begin anew.

  • http://twitter.com/toastyred Sara Traynor

Hahaha, I actually love that Tate is topping the vote.  I think it’s hilarious!

  • iluvai

    This is so dumb.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

I cant believe Demi wanted to send Paige home and keep Jennel.

She didn’t. She was playing Simon’s game. He was forcing HER to be the one who made Jennel go home by making her give her pick before him. She turned it around. Had he gone for Paige, it would have gone to deadlock and vote totals. As it stood, Simon was the bad guy. I thought that was very clever of her.

  • http://twitter.com/Girltalkbf AlesheaDominique

Alirght y’all pack it in. Your winner is talkin’ to America right now.

Sidenote: I won the bet against my sister. She said Carly (her fav) I said Tate!

  • SullyD

Lyric came in last and Tate in first… again. Oh, America!
At least XF wgwgs have decent voices, I’ll give ‘em that.

  • justmefornow

    lol. GWGWG for the win!
    I’ll LMFAO if he wins.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

So, basically it was the same?Nice try, Simon!

  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

What the heck CeeCee stays?  IMO Carly deserves #1.  Not at all sad to hear Lyric 145 is gone.  Weird voting order again.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I’m getting the same “mean” vibe too. Also, it’s so contrived and clumsy. After this joke of a show tonight, I’m done. I may watch the odd video of performances here at MJ’s, but I’m done watching the show itself.

  • Nasstopher

The top 3 actually are the same.
and I felt bad for Arin and Beatrice, they’re barely surviving each week.

  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

Tera, I agree and am saddened that neither Paige or Arin are getting votes!  I do not understand because both are true performers and radio ready.

  • shell29

You’re right, I forgot about Vino.

  • chillj

So, Tate is number one two weeks running? Heh.  Guess Simon needs to work on appealing to a younger demographic.

  • http://twitter.com/FordBrothersHD FB

I know I am completely alone on this but I am so happy EMBLEM3 is safe and moved up 2 spots. They have no shot at winning this but at least they may stick around for a little bit.

  • Valentin432

It’s almost beautiful to see how reliable people are accross shows and borders to vote for the male over the females.
No matter how hard the shows try to balance the forces.

  • shell29

I actually enjoyed last season of X Factor but this season is turning into a hot mess from top to bottom.  I’ll still watch (out of habit more than anything) but Simon’s going to have to back to the drawing board with another overhaul in the offseason.  The changes he made for this season aren’t working.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/BZKLOGIQRNCXPPCUTFTWBTWIOM kevin

i really like the uk x factor, and i was so excited for this US season. it had such promise in the beginning. but its totally becoming a trainwreck, and the mentoring is (for the most part) destroying the contestants who are all actually pretty talented.  more and more i am losing any investment in the show.

  • Nedsdag

I knew it. I knew it. I knew it.

I knew the judges crapping all over CeCe last night would garner her sympathy votes. Now she’ll never leave.

Now Simon, please teach Fifth Harmony how to harmonize so they do not end up in a sing off because that’s where they are heading.

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

I think I prefer how the UK X-Factor gives the voting percentages/rankings AFTER the season ends.  As it stands now, there is very little movement in the votes and it pretty much give away how the next few weeks are gonna go (at least).

  • dabney c

Idol can be wickedly mean, but at least it’s entertaining. Sometimes Idol is almost cartoonish in its meanness .. like a Wylie Coyote getting an anvil dropped on his head sort of thing. Seacrest does stylized cruelty like no other host! XF comes off more brutish and a lot less fun.

  • http://twitter.com/Loretta31 Loretta

FB, you are not alone!  I really enjoy Emblem3 and in my household my 2 DD’s and son like them.  15 year old voted for the first time.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_NDYOWBIIPZU6PBRHGOPT2ZZJXQ sweetmm

Mighty glad Vino is getting voters’ love :)

  • Nasstopher

I see a pattern here, the acts that opened the show both weeks came in 11th place. And the acts that closed the show both times came in 5th place. Hmmmm.

  • http://kristentheyellowlab.blogspot.com/ ZsusK

I’ve had my doubts about watching this show, because I think it’s actually pretty awful. But, after tonight? I’m in. The ridiculousness is wildly entertaining to me.  Some of my fave moments: Mario’s weak attempt at pulling a Seacrest. “The first act going home…. dun dun..dun dun… dun dun…. is….. dun dun … dun dun.. GOING TO BE ANNOUNCED AFTER THE COMMERCIAL!!!” And instead of looking at him like, “Oh, you jokester, you!” as the Idols do with Ryan, the Factorettes all looked completely bewildered and freaked out. Another moment: Right after we learned 5th Harmony was safe, Mario was trying to congratulate them while Khloe was shouting loudly, like an over achieving lunch mother, “Jennel? Paige? Why don’t you head back stage to get ready. Jennel? Paige? Come over here to get ready!”  And then Mario, “Demi! Announce your first act.” Demi, “I don’t know who it is!” Mario: “Simon, we need your response.” Simon: “No.” Mario: “You’re the boss!” Then the guilt trip he laid on poor Demi. “Demi! You are holding the careers of two people in your hands! We need your decision!”  Demi should have responded, “What career? Have you heard from Melanie Amarato lately?”

  • SapphireBlue9

I’m new to posting. I couldn’t sit quiet anymore.  This show is so bad, it feels like a B-grade SNL sketch. Truthfully, I haven’t been able to watch a full episode all season. I’ve tried DVR, On-Demand, youtube clips, and watching it on mute/Closed Caption only  but it’s too much. Amazing though, Steve Jones is far less annoying now with the current hosts.

  • alonzo7

I was rolling on the floor with the ridiculousness of the exchange between Mario, Demi and Simon-too funny for words.
Khloe is the worst host ever-I only voted for two people last night Tate and Carly-looks like Vino might have a chance also.
The rankings were strange-especially CeCe at 5??????
I felt so sorry for Paige and Jennel standing on stage while the craziness was going on but I couldn’t stop myself from watching this trainwreck of a show.

  • remikat

I just cringe every time she opens her mouth.  I love Mario as a host.  He’s a natural.

  • lukien

Jennel, really? Well, the cost of having to go first and the triumph to go last.

  • dabney c

ROFL, ZsusK, that’s priceless. I may have to rethink my hate-on for this show!

  • http://twitter.com/LexieONeill Lexie O’Neill

Revealing the rankings are a really bad idea…how demoralizing for the rest if the same people keep coming out on top.  I mean, why bother?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I’m looking forward next week when Demi Lovato will introduce Paige; “Now, the act I sent home last week, Paige Thomas!”

  • http://twitter.com/FordBrothersHD FB

Aww cool. I’m glad I am not totally alone in my EMBLEM love. I think they are super cool and talented and bring an energy and fun to the show that is desperately needed.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“OK. I’m back to TOTALLY HATING THIS SHOW.”

    Me too.

  • genius13

I believe Tate is number 1 in the leaderboards because his fan base is already amassed and he’s not likely to gain any new voters as the season progresses whereas carly will…so I’m goin to call it now…carly will win season 2

  • remikat

I agree about CeCe but the poor kid is always being put down by the judges and I think she’s losing her confidence.  I think she’s getting sympathy votes now just like Arin is.  The meaner the judges are, the more sympathic the public gets.  CeCe is really cocky but I believe she’s learning a lesson from being that way.  I hope so because she’s gorgeous and I like her signing (sometimes).

  • merkureye

I have to say, based on just the sing-off performances, Paige Thomas nailed Coldplay’s Paradise and deserved to stay.  Very very nice rendition. Clear, crisp, and on key.

Jennel’s vocal tone is very pleasant in the low and middle registers but she has no upper range.  Another contestant on the show has almost the exact vocal range.  That person is Beatrice Miller who is only 13 years old.  I would rather listen to Beatrice.

  • jumpstart4u

I’m with you MJ.  *officially hating this show*

  • SapphireBlue9

Khloe’s awfulness is way worse than I thought it could ever be.  For someone who’s been born and raised on TV, she’s a sloppy mess. Her eyes are off to the corner reading from the prompter, nobody seems to listen to her (the contestants),  and she couldn’t speak with less enthusiasm if she was  in a coma.  “You’re number one for the second week in a row.  You must be thrilled.”  Here, now I’m gonna shove a mic in your face. Now I’m gonna shove you off the stage since you don’t respond when I give commands.    Simon’s credibility is GONE!

  • Jordana33

Song choice or not, I’m pretty sure that Lyric 145 would have gone home early. If their prior good performances weren’t enough to gather enough loyal supporters, then nothing would.   Clearly the same people who vote on American Idol also vote on X Factor; they need to stay away from The Voice!

Hopefully LA Reid ignores the voters and signs them to his record label Epic. He’s doing a decent job with Chris Rene and Astro, and Lyric145 is even more marketable. Idol viewers might not like them, but I think that people who enjoy rap/hip-hop and/or mainstream top 40 will like them. Well,  I think I’m finally done with X Factor. Let me know when the 3 Douchebags are announced as winners.

  • remikat

I said it earlier that CeCe got sympathy votes because the judges were so mean to her.  Also Arin and Vino got the votes for the same reason.

  • lukien

So Simon, LA and Demi all have two acts each while Britney still have four, interesting. LA has the strongest team and Demi the weakest. Demi should worry that her last two acts wont be going next one after the other, Cece wont survive next week, there will be a backlash for sure, unless she is given the pimp spot again and outsings Carly, wait … she cant even outsing Bea.

  • dabney c

Question: I didn’t watch past auditions last season. Did the judges have the vote-off responsibility last year, too, or is this an innovation to keep things “fresh”?

  • http://twitter.com/Girltalkbf AlesheaDominique

I will say that I am more excited for the latter weeks. We joke that Tate has this in the bag but it’s only season two and no pattern has formed yet. Until the bottom contestants go home I think Tate, Carly, Vino and Emblem 3 will continue to be at the top. Once more contestants go home I will be excited because then we can really see how the voting will pan out. That and many of the bottom contestants leave me VERY underwhelmed.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_YRZ4ZGB4QBWUETLKEZH4TFHWXY Sigh…

Correction – Ryan Seacrest is no A. C. Slater.

  • iluvai

It didn’t make sense to me when the hosts were saying how people moved up a certain number of spots. Arin was last last week and he was second to the last this week, so doesn’t that mean he moved up 1 spot, not 2???  The hosts comments were just bugging me!!! lol…

  • Xentusk

With all the revelation about producer’s song choice and what a cln$terfnck it appears behind the scenes for these contestants, if it hadn’t before, the shark has definitely been jumped.

Really quite startling how quickly XF S2 has detereorated, in every way, from the first live show ’til now, what a mess :( (Even more Startling, Britney has, so far, been the most ‘sane’/stable part of XF throughout this quagmire of a show :O )

How did CeCe survive?…and not even in the bottom 3?

Feel Badly for Lyric, but she seems like the type that’ll jump back up swinging.  Good luck to them, hopefully they can stretch this exposure to something more fruitful and less distasteful

  • http://twitter.com/georgiarealist Susan Burge

But Ryan’s stylized cruelty is just that – it’s not real and everyone expects it. This show doesn’t have that going for it, it just feels bad. And the stuff we’re hearing about the mentors not really doing much mentoring, the acts not getting to pick their songs or even their clothes, and so on… I feel bad for the contestants, particularly the young ones, since it doesn’t seem like this show really offers much of an opening into the business. Not that The Voice has much of a record, but at least some of the judges there do take an interest in their teams. I can’t see these judges thinking twice about most of their acts, can you?

  • Tera2

Ok looks like they gonna reveal votes every week now.  Its looking like the country fans have taking over this show too and Tate is gonna win.  Tate seems like a nice man but its gonna be another disappointing season like Melanie winning last season – both don’t have the star quality.  I thought Simon may get someone who can be in mainstream pop this season and the ones who can do that like Arin Ray, Paige, and Emblem 3 with right age aren’t gonna win.  A 13 yr old broadway kid or older country guy is gonna win.  Anyway, I’m fine with lyric 145 and Jennel leaving.  I was tirded of their performances.  Cece, Beatrice and Diamond need to go next.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Enjoying your recap of the XFactors Mj as I am not watching the show this year.  Just cannot handle the constant Simon manipulation of everyone and thing connected to the show from it’s overproduction to its ‘the space ship has just landed’ judging to another Kardashian in my face.  Add the lame guest stars, oh excuse me the lame superstars who mostly couldn’t even get past the top 24 on any of these shows, and it’s a perfect storm of quick grab the channel changer.  And even worse this show is boring as s$$t.  If Simon’s Emblem 5 or whoever they are don’t win this year, I will be amazed.   At least a country star will take advantage of the 5 mil, which seems to have gotten lost somewhere between stage and stardom.

  • iluvai

Revealing the order takes the fun out of it. I like to think my favorites actually have a chance (even if they don’t).

  • vhill

MJ, no video of Lyric145 leaving? Their response was great, even though I was mad/sad they were still smiling. I love them.

  • http://twitter.com/AwesomeWillis Willis White

Sad to see Lyric 145 and Jennell go. I’ll miss Lyric more. I liked Jennell, but her audition performance was the best for me.  I just wasn’t a fan of any of the live show songs. And apparently, neither was Jennell.

With Jennell gone I expect that many of her votes will go to Page or CeCe, and will help team Demi stick around a while longer. And, while I’m sure CeCe got many pity votes last night, she also has a growing fan base and may not go out like expected fodder.

I’m also thinking there’s vote splitting with Arin, Beatrice and Diamond.  Once one goes out another could rise.  It’s interesting to wonder if Willie Jones was kept, would Tate still be #1? Is it a Country vote thing, or a Tate Stevens thing? I dunno.

  • fuzzywuzzy

It would be such delicious irony for Tate, a no-frills country singer (who can actually sing), to win Simon, the country hater’s show. lmao!

  • fuzzywuzzy

Simon will end up signing and promoting whoever he wants. He will have to sign Tate if he wins, but there’s nothing that says that he has to promote him, and I think that if he wins, Tate will only see a small fraction of that $5 million. I think that Simon smells another mega-$ucce$$ful group in Emblem3.

  • SapphireBlue9

Since I’m only quasi familiar with these quasi -talented contestants, who is the most likely to have a Rachel Crow/Drew Ryczeblahblah -like meltdown this year?  The “overs” seem in control of their emotions. The 3 stooges are a joke and don’t seem capable of emotion… so that leaves– the other 8? CeCe? The three little girls? The girl group with multiple names?  I just want to make sure I monitor this site on the nights when one of the trainwrecks is going so I can enjoy the FULL.ON.MELTDOWN.

  • Kristie

    Sympathy votes.

    Thank you and good day.

  • http://twitter.com/mwk89 Matthew Kitson

Its Carly Rose or bust. If she doesn’t win….or Vino (I could accept him as the winner), then X Factor shouldn’t return next year

  • Keyera Mullins

How is Cece still in the competition? I don’t get it.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_UHX5LYQ3ZJPMPFEYPSFX3ZEE4Q Jack

If there is one thing I have learned by being a fan of these shows, never, ever bet against the WGWG.  Your reasoning sounds good, and I would predict a Carly win too, but never, ever bet against the WGWG.  I thought last year on AI that Jessica would get all the anti-WGWG votes, and she did, but 127,000,000 votes were cast and the pro-WGWG voters were willing to vote until their fingers bleed to stave off anyone else even thinking about winning one of these shows.  I would like to think you are right, but it seems to me it will be Tate Stevens all the way for the win.

  • mtlfan2

wow i’m not liking those 2 eliminations

  • girlygirltoo

Does Simon have to sign anyone? Didn’t Melanie, Marcus and Chris R all sign with L.A. Reid’s label, not Syco? And I don’t know if Josh ever got signed by anyone. Did they change the rules this year so Syco has to sign the winner?

  • kcostell

Indeed.  That’s why Tony Lucca won the Voice last year!  And Josh Krajcik won the X-factor before that!

  • girlygirltoo

Based on last night’s performances, the top 4 vote getters make sense, although I would have put Tate 3rd or 4th, not 1st. But how is CeCe 5th? She was dreadful last night. She hit one glory note, was off pitch the rest of the song and she’s 5th? WTF, voters.

  • fuzzywuzzy

“How is Cece still in the competition? I don’t get it”

Because the voters cared more about the judges being mean to her than the fact that Cece gave an absolutely horrible performance.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

Because Cece is the second contest with the biggest number of followers on twitter (just behind Emblem5) and her fans entered in save mode. Today the teens showed they can make a difference – at least to get a 5th spot. LOL

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/TBRH25QFXTK5JOPE4HX7FBI5PE J

Correct, and they are not just competing for the title of winner and a singing contract, but also 5 million dollars. It is quite a bit harder to rationalize voting for hours to give that much money to a 13 year old over an adult supporting his family.

  • fuzzywuzzy

I think that Syco is like 19E (or what it used to be), and in the U.S. it normally partners with a label for the artists that it signs (like 19R does).

  • mileyfan123

This show and the voice are both so poorly produced. It makes me realize how good of a job Nigel actually does.

  • http://twitter.com/Girltalkbf AlesheaDominique

I agree. You want to keep an open mind and say that everyone has a fair shot but that is just not the case. While I joke Tate will “win” the verdict is still out, imo. There are the ones that we KNOW will not. I’m hoping we don’t start a trend on XFactor USA but like you said, “never, ever bet against the WWG.”

Side Note: Does he play guitar?

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/JSP727NMTNZTGZOULUGOH6G3CI Beth Fischer

It’s been a long time since posting something on this blog… I’ve been reading alot of threads but dont have time to comment

After watching tonight i feel extremly disapointed that Lyric got eliminated. How the hell did Arin survive????
Jennel deserved to go out of Paige unfortunalty.

Also, the put together girl group from last year, Lakoda Rayne, released a country song on itunes.

    Overall XF 2 = bust.

I have to fast forward through Kloe’s lines. Its terrible. Did they not test her before hiring her???

I found it very awk what Simon did to Demi at the bottom 2 votings. He always tries to mess  Mario who tries his best to acually host the show.

I find the top 3 pretty unmarketable besides Tate only because he’s country.
Carly and Vino??? Dont see a market for them.

  • http://twitter.com/eilonwya10 Eilonwy

Does Simon have to sign anyone? Didn’t Melanie, Marcus and Chris R all sign with L.A. Reid’s label, not Syco?

The plan with XFUSA is that Syco and Epic sign the winner jointly. This seems to have been what happened, as Amaro’s songs have both Syco and Epic as the label.

Marcus Canty and Chris Rene are signed to Epic only, though. So apparently Syco’s quicker to stay out of the deal than 19R is, though I think fuzzywuzzy‘s right that Syco’s role may be roughly equivalent to 19R’s for the winner.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Can someone explain to me what that stupid fake fight was about on who to go first in eliminating between Paige and Jennel? I mean , Why the eff did Simon INSIST that Demi have to vote first???!! This whole thing about him being the producer and manipulates the show in whatever he does is really making me hate X factor when I’m a fan!

And also- wtf did Demi have to vote against someone from her team??? It’s just disloyal, didn’t she learn from watching other shows that the mentor can refuse to vote if both eliminations are from her team?? Look at Louis last week when both his boybands were in bottom 2! He refused to vote! I think Demi is just to inexperienced for this show…
Lastly- I like how Mario stood his ground about telling Simon he has to vote first but I’m afraid he may get fired…

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

If she knew something about XF she would do what Louis did last week. Refused to send home one of his acts who were on the bottom 2. But, not only she is too naive, but sometimes she seems to not care at all for her contestants. She only cares when it’s about destroying their look. I hope she has learned a lesson and will change a little bit now.

  • girlygirltoo

    nvm

  • girlygirltoo

    ah ok, thanks

  • kay121

I think it could get pretty awkward and uncomfortable if Tate keeps winning every week and has to keep giving a speech. He’s likeable, but I hope that doesn’t happen or else it’s going to get old really quick. I keep mentally picturing Taylor Swift at awards shows winning everything, haha

  • girlygirltoo

where did Jennel finish in the voting last week? I know Lyric145 was 9th, but for some reason I thought Jennel was middle of the pack.

  • girlygirltoo

Except that the WGWG (Josh) lost to the boring diva girl (Melanie) last year on XF and a WGWG didn’t win The Voice last season, either :)

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Totally agreed Leandro. I never thought i’d say this but…Demi seems quite superficial to me. Shockingly, Britney seems to be the more sincere one….
I felt so bad for both Jennel and Paige tonight….BOTH Jennel and Lyric were eliminated WAAAYY before their time….that is the problem with this show. THAT’S IT SIMON COWELL – i officially hate XF US! I think i may just stick to watching UK and AUS ones for the rest of this season…

  • iluvai

I haven’t seen XF UK or XF Aus. How do you guys/gals watch it? And why doesn’t Simon make the US version as enjoyable?

  • Whatiswrongwithus

This whole ranking thing is doing the show more harm than good IMHO. As I said before when they started this last week, they might as well just close shop and call it a day and give the crown to EITHER Tate or Carly and Simon can just sign whoever he wants. The element of surprise is ruined. Even if the percentages change between the top 2, it’s clear at this point either only Carly or Tate will win. And Tate hasn’t even brought out his GUITAR!! LOL!
While I like the fact that we as audience get to see the rankings, but seriously, I bet there’s no point for the betting pools to continue with X factor, and as for me – this season completely sucks balls.

  • Valentin432

Saying that you should bet on WGWG means it’s going to happen more often than not, which is the case.
    You play the odds.
And when they don’t win they come pretty close to it.

Just like saying that women are being treated as canon fodders don’t mean they can’t win once every once in a while, you’re juste going to make more money if you bet on a men winning than the other way.

The frustrating part is not only the mediocre and repetitive winner thing, it’s the collapse afterwards when they fail to sell much of anything.

It’s the death of these singing shows.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Hey iluvai – here’s a link to a live feed XF UK when they air on Saturday nights in the UK, means Friday afternoon for US??

    http://www.justin.tv/wmc_tv2#/w/4018449136/2

And as for XF AUS – You tube babe lol. Check Samantha Jade’s recent performance on Heartless. Now that was what I called a MOMENT. That performance shot her right into the finale.

  • Valentin432

It’s not quite true, there have been come from behind wins on X factor UK.

The votes are only revealed at the end but a winner like Alexandra Burke was 6th or 7th until week four, and Little Mix (or whatever they are called now) wasn’t first until late in the competition.

I’m guessing the same is true for other shows like AI but we haven’t had the voting numbers.

  • http://twitter.com/AdamAlamillo Adam Alamillo

I disagree. If I were a mentor, i’d definitely want a say in which of my acts stays.

  • elliegrll

Why the eff did Simon INSIST that Demi have to vote first???!!

It was an obnoxious power play.  Simon wanted Demi to have to vote against one of her own acts.  In his mind, it now creates some drama between Paige and Demi.  In reality, viewers want care, because the whole thing was awkward and nasty.

  • iluvai

Thanks for the link. I was wondering why MJ was even blogging about these shows.  I saw Samantha Jade’s performance of Heartless. Are you the one that provided the youtube link a day or so ago?  She’s great.

  • elliegrll

The leaders can always change, but for that to happen people other than Tate, Carly and Vino need to show that they have a clue about what they are doing on stage, and they need better songs.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

I’d want a say too, IF I had the power to decide, not just a vote. The way they did it totally broke the relationship between Paige and Demi. I mean, if they actually had a relationship at all before and not a 10 minutes meeting like it has been reported. lol

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

ITA. I don’t think Simon realized yet that turning a singing contest into a terrible soup opera WON’T bring more viewers.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

I hated that…. I REALLY, REALLY hated that. It made me hate it more than the Rachel Crow meltdown last season. It’s really showing me that Simon is a through and through ASS and this show is literally at his manipulation. And that Demi is just too green for this. Maybe that’s what makes me like the other X factor franchise, i don’t get to see Simon being the puppetmaster – well, not on screen at least.

  • springboard2

This is what the UK show is based on and it worked for years, although it doesn’t anymore.

  • hayes

I don’t think Simon was necessarily thinking about creating drama between Demi and Paige, he truly just wanted Demi to vote first because he knew he was gonna send Jennel home. If he voted first they wouldn’t need Demi to vote. Now if Demi was smart enough, she should have abstained from voting or should have voted Jennel off. She should be smart enough to know that Simon likes Paige better than Jennel. Paige had a better sing off anyway. Instead now she has to deal with “mentoring” the act that she tried to eliminate.

  • Venus Hooper

Votes are close  eh?  Carly Rose will pick up the votes along the way as the other young ones fall off, what she doesn’t pick up from them Vino will.  They’ll inherit those younger votes.  I honestly see at this point Carly Rose taking it but could be wrong!  Country listeners are loyal and faithful, Tate has that demo, so what he has there the question is it enough to keep him in the front as the others continue to drop off?

And Demi needs to take CeCe’s hair back to her natural color, I think that drastic change in appearance is one of the major things in keeping her down there, she is non-recognizable from the try-outs to this stage…  She might be able to pick up a few more votes if she went back to the way she looked when she auditioned.

    JMO

  • Whatiswrongwithus

“Now if Demi was smart enough, she should have abstained from voting ”

That’s right. She WASN’T smart enough. Watching her and her eyebrows now gives me a migraine.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

If I’m remembering right, I think a part of those come from behind wins has PARTIALLY to do with the voting system. IIRC, however, the X Factor UK has a voting limit (don’t quote me on that one) and has lines open until 5 minutes into the results (which, due to different time zones, would not work here). It did not prevent a WGWG from winning Series 7 before disappearing into obscurity, however.

And Little Mix is still called Little Mix.
As for this show, I’m gonna catch Carly on YouTube. Lyric 145 being eliminated is incredibly disappointing and the stupid Simon/Demi thing seemed annoying (not to mention Demi became really disappointing as a mentor) really killed this season for me. I may catch a performance on YouTube if it gets interesting reviews.

No lie, having your favorite eliminated early can be quite liberating, lol.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/5HGXDY5SA4QJRME7OQJXRJYE4M James M.

“Honestly, I think whoever survives tonight should REVOLT against the producers and their crappy choices. The people handling these finalists have their heads up their butts.”

Also this. I wonder if they’ll ever notice that the contestants actually do a LOT better on their singoffs than their actual performances. This show seemed a lot more interesting and promising during the auditions.

  • Lovesyesha

X factor is a terrible, overproduced show where they drown out the talent of the acts with loud backing tracks, annoyingly loud audiences (specifically teenage girls), and huge productions. All IMO of course. Even ones without huge productions or backing tracks like Fifth Harmony, Carly, Vino, Beatrice, and Tate, get thrown off by the amount of noise the audience makes, and I believe it throws off their pitch.

Jennel shouldn’t have left, but people can’t connect well with someone with huge productions like that. Also, with regards to Cece, she has some amazing talent. Her judges house performance was the best out of all of the acts. But she needs to return to that type of performance. She thrives best when showing the bluesy, jazzy, subtle side of her voice, and these huge production numbers are having disastrous affects on her and her singing. This is all IMO of course, but the X Factor USA has a ton of issues!

  • Miss Chaos

Last year Melanie was brought back and won, this year Diamond was brought back for some reason, just sayin!

“Saying that you should bet on WGWG means it’s going to happen more often than not, which is the case. You play the odds. And when they don’t win they come pretty close to it.”

Thank you.  I wasn’t saying that someone else couldn’t win, I was saying that I watched Taylor Hicks, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, and Phillip Phillips win American Idol when there were strong arguments to bet on one of the girls.  I also watched as mediocre male singers won AGT year-after-year. It’s true, someone else can win, such as Melanie Amaro last year, but the odds go with the WGWG on these shows.  (I have never watched The Voice, and I have no idea if it is the same voting audience.)

I actually do think that Carly will win, but two weeks ago I thought Lyric 145 would win.  I should have known better to think that this voting audience would pick a hip hop artist over a white country singer.

  • http://twitter.com/Girltalkbf AlesheaDominique

I don’t think the average watcher saw Simon as being a manipulator and nasty. For example my aunt actually watched tonight. ( She only keeps up with the shows if she’s in the same room and it’s on) Anyways, she was defending Simon and saying he did that so Jennel would have confidence and know someone wanted her to say. She argued me down about how he does not pull strings to get the contestants he wants (This isn’t the first time we’ve discussed the inner workings of these shows). Until people like her realize it’s the same “types” will keep winning on these shows.

  • macfae

Fun left the building with Lyric 145. My interest in the rest is almost down to nil now.

  • http://profile.yahoo.com/XDQP2Y46M5B3OHOKALDDGDHQCM Leandro

More or less. I would take off the adjective “terrible” from the UK show.

  • RustySax

Bless her heart, Taylor has worked her friggin’ butt off to become as successful as she has.

But darn, by this point, don’t you think she could spring for some new microphones?  The ones she uses when she’s singing live always seem to be out of tune!

  • Ratna12

Watching Beatrice’s face was kind of painful, she was so stressed.
Revealing the ranking is a bad idea. It does not help to hear Mario gleefully said,” you moved up 2 notches, yay.”

Let’s see if the combined fan bases can topple the country fan base.
Tate was even seen comforting the “bad” CeCe…what a nice loving guy.

  • http://twitter.com/HighTensions Jake Williams

I love Diamond, but there is no way in hell she is winning. She will get near the top at most. Plus Melanie was a better vocalist. Diamond has more star power though.

  • Listening

Okay so I can respond now. I am furious at Simon Cowell for what he did
to Lyric 145, They trusted him and he ruined them. Hours after the show
I kept mumbling about what an inept, cocky fool Simon was in regards to
them. LA kept warning him that he was leading Lyric 145 astray. But
Simon didn’t care he’s like I know reality tv  I know what it takes to
keep a rap act competitive. FOOL you know nothing and you should of shut
up and listened. I wish LA had had them, he actually get’s Rap acts. He
knew what to do w/ Astro. I’m nearly positive Simon will have nothing
to do w/ them now. They’ll show up at his door and he’ll shout get out.
He might separate Lyric from the rest of the group and try to do
something w/ just her but he’s probably already forgotten about them.
I’d like for them to stay together and do some true material. I loved
the concept of them, Simon is just an idiot and had no clue what to do. I
knew if they were in the bottom 3 they were going home either way b/c
none of the other judges would save them. I just didn’t see the instant
elimination coming. It’s just a sad end to a group w/ such potential. After Judges Houses Lyric 145 was getting a ton of positive feedback. They had a lot of views and people were intrigued.

I know they probably wouldn’t of lasted much longer b/c Simon would come
up w/ another dumb Idea like changing the song at the last minute making
them have to throw things together. Lyric 145 had blind faith in him, Ok
Simon we wont use our own lyrics and perform the song we’ve had days to
practice we’ll go w/ this slapped together performance b/c you think
it’s best and it cost them.

Arrrgggggg Simon why are you so STUPID.

‘Now we know which direction for you to go in’ – Demi. O_O!!!

No No No No. Do not take CeCe in that direction! Curse all those sympathy voters! There is no way in hell CeCe would have climbed to 5th place?! I mean safe ok… maybe her fan base just didn’t vote last week.. but 5th place screams sympathy votes… does the performance mean nothing now?

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

At the beginning I was really shocked by tonight’s results but… the more I thought about it the less surprising it got. Although they weren’t the worst IMO last night… they were still both at the bottom of the heap. So sad… I hate seeing these contestants come off without showing their best in the live shows… this just seems to always happen. I mean they were incredibly harsh on CeCe and Arin… sympathy votes would come flying in. But judging from the results…. I seems as though this voting audience likes the opposite of what Simon originally thought. Which is the very poptastic overproduced route. They like the power ballads.
If the producers are actually manipulating the song choices and not letting the contestants choose then they should learn that …

  • vhill

more like they had HOURS to practice. shaking my dang head. and i don’t know if it’s simon or the producers- actually there were legal reasons. but this should all be figured out well ahead of time. it’s not fair what these shows do to people- yes they discover great talent, but then half of the contestants, usually the most talented ones, do get screwed over by not having the chance to be themselves. what i would do to be able to see more performances from Lyric 145. we will be seeing them soon.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

“Revealing the ranking is a bad idea. It does not help to hear Mario gleefully said,” you moved up 2 notches, yay.”

Lmao! I just had to laugh at this. Despite my liking of Mario as a host (well he definitely beats Steve jones and that wooden giant next to him), he is really NO Ryan Seacrest.

Heck, even Luke from XF AUS has more of a human touch than he does. Mario sounds like he’s Santa claus on Prozac at Disneyland. He is obviously very happy he landed this gig, but seriously dude, you gotta turn down the constant dimply smiles and the over-expressive announcing of ANYTHING! I LOLed when last week, he SHOUTED, i mean he really SHOUTED, that Jason Brock got eliminated and Cece actually jumped out of her skin. (Take a look back at the video). He made it sound like Jason Brock had won the lottery for crying out loud.

Geez Mario – don’t do any eulogys please.

  • Karen C

    MJ:

I think a big part of the problem is that he doesn’t understand American audiences. American Idol was produced by Brits who understood and appreciated American optimism. The aspirational nature of Idol is what makes it work. Sure, there’s some snark during the audition phase, but once the competition was underway, the tone turned earnest.

I agree, and I think that’s why the Idol format flourished in the US, much more so than the UK version.  I also think that the UK audience seem to like the more OTT performances than the US version does.  It does seem like the audience is nearly the same for both US shows based on the results.

Also part of the problem are the heavy-duty manipulation of the finalists. The producers and mentors are doing a horrible job putting together performances for the contenders.

I think a big part of what the US audience prefers is that on Idol, it seems like the contestants get to pick their songs, and in some cases the arrangements.  And I know that’s not always the case, but that is the perception.

  • http://twitter.com/BazzleFjsm Bazzle

But tonight. I agree Paige won the sing off and they both did better than any of the other weeks. But it doesn’t matter the young adults are through and while it was looking bright for Britney.. at this rate it looks like only Carly Rose will be a lock. Simon’s groups are really unpredictable….. an LA?! probably eating his words from the auditions. You still don’t want the overs now LA? lol

  • WestiesRule

Who the heck is voting? OK, not me… this show just doesn’t work here. Someone wake up Cowell and FOX. I hope someone picks up Lyric 145. They will do well in the hip hop world. Hope the rappers who pick up artists were watching. Astro is doing well for himself.

  • shell29

I think the average viewer of both shows might not pick up on the manipulations.  I think there has been just as much producer manipulation on Idol as there has been with X Factor.  Idol pulls some of the same tricks to get certain finalists eliminated sooner-pulling song choices at the last minute, saddling certain contestants with songs that clearly don’t fit them, etc.    There’s definitely a perception that “America” chooses their eventual “Idol”, but producers will pull out all the stops to try to make sure “America” makes the “right” choice.

  • http://twitter.com/pokepikalem Le Viet Anh Nghi

I hate it when Simon and Demi tried to deal with the whole thing like a game while the other two pathetic girls are shaking as if their lives will be over soon.

At least show some sympathy douche bags. Poor them!

  • irockhard

What’s even more sad is that Simon doesn’t realize that they were his most marketable group. They could easily be molded into a Black Eyed Peas type group post show, but Simon is just too stubborn to learn about anything he doesn’t know.

  • RockiDreams

I had this show on for awhile and realized why I don’t bother – it is really really bad along with the so-called talent.  The hosts are bad, the judges are stupid and so fake with this “you are a star” crap, the manipulation is extremely apparent.  Even the guest singer Swift was awful.  The hosts are hilarious – in a bad way.  Good grief.

  • irockhard

There’s a bizarre infatuation with WGWGs in the US because, unlike the UK, teens and young adults don’t watch these shows, neither do most males, because they think these shows are lame. So you’re left with the 40+ (mostly female) crowd.

  • justmefornow

I think it’s essentially Simon not fully understanding the American culture. I think he’s in denial about who still watches these shows here in the US. If he understood that better, he wouldn’t be surprised by the voting outcome.
Also, he still doesn’t get the overwhelming popularity of sports here over everything else, and how his shows will always take second place on the network to any playoffs or finals.

  • http://twitter.com/shoriagirl Shoriagirl

Because WGWG never won UK singing competition?

  • Incipit

teens and young adults don’t watch these shows, neither do most males,

That’s an interesting statement, irockhard, is there a link, or is it solely theory?

If there are serious demographic documented statistics of who is voting and for whom on this X-factor show that could be compared to who is voting for whom on Idol, do you theorize they would be the same audience? I would love to see these. I did originally think Cowell was after the Idol audience, but the ‘look’ and ‘vibe’ of his show belies that.

If they are the same audience, why does it seem that Cowell and his production staff don’t take that into account – and if he and Idol both are left with the 40+ crowd, where are they counting the coveted 18 – 49 demographic – since the shows only have the upper end of that scale as viewers, per your theory?

A link would be good. At least the next time someone blames a voting result on the Texting Tweens/Teens – one could explain how that would be impossible – since they don’t watch the shows…and also, the coveted 18 – 49 Demo is hollow – and really only 40+ females.

IMO. People vote for the performances they enjoy, without regard for whether they are marketable or not – – and Cowell’s show isn’t putting up much that’s enjoyable to his audience, whoever they can be proven to be. But I have theories too!

I theorize that the popularity of dudes who rock on any of the shows is because they are NOT on popular radio…and the demographic that still prefers that genre has an artificially limited access to new examples of the music  they would listen to by preference…so they are drawn to examples of it on the shows.

The current Pop, R&B, etc has more polished examples easily available on the radio every day – often the very same songs, and the contestants don’t always shine in comparison to the studio recordings of the original artists. And if 40+ is the audience, the majority of them wouldn’t prefer that anyway. IMO.

But it’s just an idle theory. Heh. – I don’t have any links either. *snerk*

  • nncw

The most irritating thing on this show and there were many – is there is a girl in the audience screaming at the top of her lungs highest pitch and decibels known to man. Particularly present during Carly Rose’s performance and it was just unbearable – took away any pleasure possible in watching a performance on X-factor.

  • jpfan2

“The aspirational nature of Idol is what makes it work. Sure, there’s some snark during the audition phase, but once the competition was underway, the tone turned earnest.”

So so true. When I first saw the Brit version of XF I said that Americans took their kareoke shows way more seriously. People were jumping on me but XF is just too cheesy  to hit big in the US.  Simon has really hurt his brand in the U.S. Who knew the other Simon was really the key to Idol’s success?

  • elliegrll

There’s a lot of producer manipulation on American Idol, but Fuller, Nigel, Ken, and the others have had the common sense to hide it, and have someone gotten the contestants to go along with keeping everything under cover. I have no idea how contestants avoided blowing up, when Simon Cowell would chastise them on national television for having 1000s of songs to pick from, but choosing the worst song possible.

On his show, Simon Cowell has taken away a lot of the joy by letting us see all of the manipulations that are going on, and even making them a central part of the show.

  • justmefornow

There maybe something to your rock guy theory, but look who came in 1st place the last two weeks. A close to middle aged country singer.
There’s plenty of country music available, in fact it’s becoming more and more popular.

As for the younger crowd not watching as much anymore, I agree. Of course I use my personal frame of reference here, but Idol or any of these shows just aren’t watched anymore by that demo in my area; this from my 3 kids in that age range, none of whom watch.

However, “Home” is very well known and liked by my kids friends, except they all think it’s Mumford and Sons new song. My daughter is always correcting them, lol. She’s aware of P2 because of me. This is going to be P2’s problem with his album, establishing his separate identity. But if he gets another hit off it, he’ll be fine.

    But that’s another story, lol.

  • elliegrll

Last season, American Idol was the second highest rated show among teens.

One Direction didn’t win their season of XF, a White Guy with a guitar did.  He was proceeded by a winner who was white, male, and a singer-songwriter.  The majority of the UK’s winners wouldn’t fall under the pop label, and would appeal to a Hot AC audience in the US.  The only exceptions being Alexandra Burke and Little Mix.

  • mmb

I didn’t tune in to XF US til the live shows started, but I had the same thought as MJ — Simon doesn’t get the American audience.  Something about the show just doesn’t work/isn’t appealing here.  There is something off-putting about the big huge production numbers that draw the focus away from the contestants.  The Voice has big productions and not enough focus on the contestants too, but there is still something “smaller” about its format, and the focus is so unabashedly on the judges and their interaction, that you just don’t care.  Because really, that show isnt about the contestants. and the judges are entertaining enough.  The hiring of Khloe was just bizarre — she was a little better this week, but she is entirely unnecessary.  Mario was a good choice. AI simply strikes a better balance between focus on contestants and judges that either the Voice or XF.  Even tho there is a lot going on behind the scenes at AI, US audiences like to feel that the contestants are making their own choices and in control of their own destiny.

  • Mateja Praznik

Here is how I would class XF UK winners:
    Steve Brookstein – AC, covers
    Shayne Ward – pop/RnB
    Leona Lewis – pop/RnB
Leon Jackson – AC (think Michael Buble, he developed into a singer/songwriter after he was dropped)
    Alexandra Burke – pop/RnB
Joe McElderry – AC (His post X Factor pop album just didn’t work, now he is recording mostly covers.)
    Matt Cardle – singer-songwriter WGWG
    Little Mix – pop/RnB girlband

  • girlygirltoo

This ignores the fact that pretty much none of the women/girls in those seasons, except with the exception of Lauren, have gone on to have any significant success as recording artists. Sure, Kat has had success as an actress, but not so much as a recording artist. Even Melanie, who won XF last season, has really struggled. Remember the “shock” and “outrage” when Pia got kicked off Idol? Those “supporters” forgot about her in a big hurry. So maybe there is a reason beyond the fact that they are good looking guys who play guitar that the people who won won. All of these guys are very talented, whether you or I or anyone else on this board like them or their music. And honestly, even though I’m not a country music person at all, it’s pretty clear to me that Tate is much more marketable than Carly Rose (unless she goes the Jackie Evancho route or tries Broadway). To suggest they only won because they are “WGWGs” really is, IMO, sort of insulting to them. Not to mention to the people who voted for them (and no, I didn’t vote for WGWG every year — in fact, the only season I have ever voted at all was S8).

ETA – I agree that it would be great to have more diversity in the winners of these competitions. I personally was rooting for Lyric145. But I don’t think that if someone other than a WGWG wins one of these contests, it means that person will automatically go on to be a successful recording artist (see Melanie or Jermaine Paul from The Voice, for example), or that someone other than a WGWG winning will improve the actual show (XF was, IMO, a train wreck last season when Melanie won).

  • Incipit

look who came in 1st place the last two weeks. A close to middle aged country singer.

On the XFUS, justformenow? Yeah, they don’t actually have a rocker dude that I saw, do they?  But one of the very few times I checked out the show, I saw Tate’s audition. Simple equation – the dude can sing. I don’t ‘do’ country music at all, but I can recognize a really good voice, and more importantly, an honest connection to the words and music executed with skill and talent.

I would listen to Tate in preference to the other options on the show, even if he is country, because the dude can ‘sing’, and the listener can believe and enjoy every bit of it.  He was the best thing I heard that night…and I posted about it here at the time.

I ‘was’ surprised to see his ranking and I have no idea of the actual age or genre demo for XFUS (I’m thinking Cowell doesn’t either?) – but I can’t fault the voters’ vocal taste.

    IMO.

  • elliegrll

teens and young adults don’t watch these shows, neither do most males,

Last season, American Idol was the second and fourth highest rated show among teens.

Rupert Murdoch owns the minds of American teenagers. Fox has six of the top ten shows among viewers ages 12 to 17. In order, they’re Glee, American Idol(performance shows), Family Guy, Idol (results), The Cleveland Show,Napoleon Dynamite, and The X Factor (results and performance).

I used to think that Simon ‘made’ American Idol, but now realize that Idol made Simon. I honestly can’t stand him on XF. The backdrop of this show makes his mean, cheeky snarkisms come off nasty rather than nastily funny. Bleh. He peaked with Idol, I think.

  • justmefornow

No they don’t have a “rocker dude” on this season. They tried unsuccessfully to brand Jennell the token rock performer, but she was never close to believable in the role.
Maybe Vino also fills that role to some degree, but he’s not a real rocker either.
Interesting that they’re both at the top in the voting totals along with that unmarketable Broadway child, IMO.
It could be a case of voting for the least offensive choice each week, because there certainly are a lot of trainwrecks on this show.

Ultimately it really doesn’t matter, I don’t see any of these acts becoming successful off this show.

  • Incipit

It could be a case of voting for the least offensive choice each week, because there certainly are a lot of trainwrecks on this show.

Heh. Well, perhaps they need to refine their Casting Procedures and hire a few US media consultants, because I believe you have a point there.

I just watched the videos to be entertained – I’m not doubling as an A&R person, and I wasn’t concerned about post show careers…though if someone caught my attention to that extent, I would certainly follow what became of them, probably buy their stuff too.

But I was NOT entertained or interested by the choices the show made, in promo, hosts, cast, songs, stage production or by the judge/mentors’ judgementory behavior, musical vocabulary or critiques..it culminates in a vibe that makes the Simon Puppet Show unpleasant, to me.

Which is a shame for the cast, actually, even though they are an afterthought to the “Real Stars” at the judge/mentor table…IMO.

  • http://twitter.com/happylittlefish Amy Beth

I think Beatrice is the only one who can do math. Khloe announced she moved up 2 spots and her face basically said “But there’s 2 fewer of us, so I’m still as close the bottom as I was last week, fool”.

  • irockhard

No because they don’t win every UK singing competition.

  • irockhard

Dudes who really rock are few and far between on these shows and they never win either. I don’t consider strumming an acoustic guitar rocking out, WGWG does not equal rocker for me, unless you’re Eddie Van Halen.

  • sumidol

I am so ashamed of this show, it really is awful and awkward and weird – boo X Factor, I tried to watch you, I did but its a bad show

  • irockhard

If there was a real rocker dude Tate would still be at the top.

  • irockhard

I doubt there’ll every be an authentic rocker dude on XF, Simon doesn’t know what real rock is or even what faux rock is.

  • Incipit

Irockhard, I grew up on Rock music, not the soft variety, either. It would be my first preference. I have little interest in most acoustic guitar based versions, but I never use that dismissive, patronizing acronym – there are many kinds of Rock, and many different Rock voices…”rocking out” is a description that is subjective to one’s preference.

But IDK what you are trying to say about rock dudes winning, or not winning, or even being on these shows…I was talking about my theory of why voters or viewers who like any kind of rock would possibly be more drawn to someone who plays music close to what they like than to pop or rap or R&B…and why their votes wouldn’t need deep (or shallow) explanations.

Like any other genre of music, it’s a degree of preference. But fresh takes on the music they prefer isn’t readily available on the radio at this time…and what there is, is mostly acoustic. It creates a space that these Reality shows about music competitions can chose to try to fill, if they wish. But then it is hypocritical of them to turn around and insult the people they chose to cast with that deliberately dismissive tag. (And Idol did that)

It’s use leaves a bad taste, for me.

    JMO. Of Course.

  • suenigma

As usual, I couldn’t agree more Incipit. LOL.

As an aside, I know that you and I share similar taste in rock music, and it is most distinctly not the soft/acoustic/folksy variety, Nostalgia Rock or even 80’s Hair Metal (although there is nothing wrong with those flavors). Also, the term “rocking out” sounds so quaint – cracks me up.

  • hcpoirot

With two weeks singers ranking, what can we know from this?

    1. Tate will be at least in top 3 unless LA gave him crappy songs to sing (like disco or R & B songs). Or they try to find dirt to kick him out of the show.

Why? Cause even when he sing so earlier this week and Carly Rose sang third from the pimp spot, he still rank number 1.

    2. Simon and producers want Ce Ce to stay for entertainment purpose. Thats why she got pimp spot and they just throw her under the bus for symphaty votes. Last week she rank 12 and this week 5. Thats mean the votes between rank 5 – 10 is really really near indeed.

Anything can change for rank 5-10.

    3. I am not surprise that Diamond dip a little after last week high place. Next week look like the producer want Diamond or Arin or Paige or Beatrice to leave. Both 4 of them sing earlier twice in a row now.

Meanwhile Fifth Harmony, Emblem, Carly Rose, Cece and Vino got second half of the show to sing. Good position.

I bet they will also place Tate earlier and crappy song so he will lost some votes and then not win in the end.

  • hcpoirot

And yes they need to kick off Khloe (but they probably cannot do that this season cause of the contract they sign with her) She look wooden and didnot had ounce of sympathy for the eliminate singers. At least she need to pretend she care and show it in her gesture and voice.

And yes they need to kick off Khloe (but they probably cannot do that this season cause of the contract they sign with her) She look wooden and didnot had ounce of sympathy for the eliminate singers.

My current theory on Cowell’s obsession with hiring at least one inexperienced host — and then his decision to go with a Kardashian — is that he believed it’d be good TV to have a host who’s so bad at the job that audiences would mock and deride her. That’d be consistent with his known treatment of both audiences and female colleagues.

He’s ended up with a show in which every element is manipulated and mean-spirited.  I don’t think he gets the difference between giving a subsection of the audience the opening to construct conspiracy theories and get all snarky if that’s their thing, versus shoving the nastiness in every viewer’s face.

  • irockhard

How do I know? Daughtry, Durbin, Juliet Simms, did any of them win? No.

  • Incipit

How do I know? Daughtry, Durbin, Juliet Simms, did any of them win?

Wait. What? That’s three different types of rock singers right there. Are you proposing that winning is just a function of the genre they sing in, and has nothing to do with vocals, song choice, audience choice or personas? That Country singer X will win over Rock singer Y ?

By that reasoning, KLC ought to have won Season 7, not David C – (with apologies to the KLC Mojo) she didn’t – or  Aaron Kelly over Lee DeWyze or Michael Sarver over Kris Allen  – they didn’t.

That’s just off the top of my head – three counter examples – which definitely don’t have any substantive claims to make about country singers vs rock singers, BTW.

Why is it so hard to just say Tate is good – without a specious argument full of holes? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that) *snerk*

  • irockhard

I never said that Tate wasn’t good.

  • Incipit

Lol. OK, I give up – I have no idea what you are talking about then, irockhard.

Look, I kinda like Daughtry, but he doesn’t rock any harder than David Cook – I’d say much less so live, but that’s just me. LOL. Juliet is great, but she’s doing the acoustic, singer-songwriter thing now too. And Durbin has a fantastic voice and I like his vibe, but let’s be honest, what he’s doing is not exactly cutting edge or modern either. I theorize that the popularity of dudes who rock on any of the shows is because they are NOT on popular radio…and the demographic that still prefers that genre has an artificially limited access to new examples of the music they would listen to by preference…so they are drawn to examples of it on the shows.

This is my theory too.  And I think it goes across age groups.  It has been my experience that people who do not like most current pop, especially hip hop and rap, tend to like country or rock instead.   And that includes teenagers.

To me, Tate comes across more of an artist than anyone else, and also might even have potential to be the most sucessful after the show, especially if he wins or comes in second. I think this mainly because country radio has been the most accepting of the singing competition contestants, and many country artists are his age even ones just starting out.

Even if someone more  pop won, it might be harder for them to get on the radio.

I think there is a lot of overlap.  I know quite a few people that were rock fans when they were younger, but became country fans as adults.   And some of what is now considered country was once considered rock.

More fans=more votes? Maybe it’s just that simple.

I think it is that simple. And more fans=higher sales.

  • WD79

Hmm, I don’t know. I think revealing the rankings IS interesting. I mean, how many of you actually thought that CeCe would be 5th? Probably none right? And the top 4 is actually quite close in votes with each other. That’s gotta tell you something.

  • wkstrack

LOL No WAY. Cece is no Haley Reinhart. Haley was actually likable and an underdog. She also never got the bitch edit Cece has. Cece is neither of those things. I have to say I was disappointed in the eliminations and shocked. Lyric 145 and Jennel are more talented and have better stage prescence than say someone like Paige. But I think the judges got rid of Jennel because they knew she was the only threat in Demi’ category. No one really cares about Paige.

  • sumidol

Hello! I never said she was a Haley what I said was in the beginning a lot of people on here hated Haley and I was always sticking up for her, I liked her from the beginning for whatever reason, same thing here –
