Recapping the X Factor Results RIGHT HERE. DOUBLE ELIMINATION.

OMG. Lyric 145 is eliminated!
Jennel Garcia is Eliminated

I’ve come to the conclusion that if Simon Cowell can’t get it right by now, he never will. I think a big part of the problem is that he doesn’t understand American audiences. American Idol was produced by Brits who understood and appreciated American optimism. The aspirational nature of Idol is what makes it work. Sure, there’s some snark during the audition phase, but once the competition was underway, the tone turned earnest. Putting the group through the double humiliation of elimination, and then the voting ranking, is just too much. There is a mean tone to X Factor that my fly in Europe. But in the US, it’s no wonder that The Voice, with it’s cheerleading coaches and nurturing air is doing better in the ratings.

Also part of the problem are the heavy-duty manipulation of the finalists. The producers and mentors are doing a horrible job putting together performances for the contenders. Jennel Garcia and Lyric 145 left this week because they were basically sabotaged by and saddled with terrible song choice and production. It’s a shame, because there is talent in this group, but nearly all of them seem to be shoehorned into images that don’t fit them as artists. It’s pathetic, really. X Factor UK is NOT awful. I have to question who Simon has helping him behind the scenes.

So, yeah, I was giving X Factor a chance this year. The edited shows were well done and entertaining as fake docu-drama, but it’s all fallen apart since the live shows began. Khloe Kardashian is the worst host ever, shouting at the contestants, struggling with the teleprompter, talking over Mario. But Simon purposely hired a host without experience. It shouldn’t be a surprise that she sucks.

Knowing how the contestants voting rank week to week is initially interesting, but ultimately robs the contest of any surprise or mystery. So now we know that Tate, Carly and Vino will be the final three. Y’all can stop watching now!

Also, Beatrice Miller is headed for a Rachel Crow like meltdown x infinity. That’s going to be really ugly when it happens.

Ohhhh. The voting rankings will be revealed again tonight! Taylor Swift will perform. First a recap of last night’s performances.

The Top 12 acts take the stage.

FIRST ACT IS LEAVING THE COMPLETION RIGHT NOW. After the break. Ugh. Seascrest can get away with that “….after the break” shite. You, Mario, are no Ryan Seacrest.

The act with the lowest number of votes is…Lyric 145. Ugh. I knew they wouldn’t last long, but I thought they had a week or two more. They really got screwed with their song choice this week. (Read more about that here)

Taylor Swift performs “State Of Grace” for the first time live.

Stumble over those words, Khloe (She’s awful)

The remaining contestants take the stage with their mentors. Who is safe? Announced in no particular order. Arin is safe. He looks real surprised. CeCe breaks into tears when she learns that she’s safe. Fifth Harmony, Jennel Garcia and Paige Thomas are left.

After the break, we learn that Fifth Harmony is safe.

Paige Thomas and Jennel Garcia will sing for their lives!

Jennel Garcia performs “The Reason” by Hoobastank – This is better than anything she’s done on the live show so far. It’s pitchy in spots, but heartfelt. It just goes to show how overbearing the manipulation is on this show. It strips the artists of their personality.

Paige Thomas performs “Paradise” by Coldplay – She’s also the best she’s been in weeks. Honestly, I think whoever survives tonight should REVOLT against the producers and their crappy choices. The people handling these finalists have their heads up their butts.

The judges choose who to send home.

LA Reid sends home Jennel Garcia
Britney Spears sends home Jennel Garcia
Simon Cowell wants Demi to go first. Mario says NO. Cowell refuses to choose until Demi does. Mario says testily, “You’re the boss.” Whoa.
Demi Lovato  refuses to go next. THIS FAKE FIGHT IS LAME. She relents and sends home Paige. I’m betting that choice had to do with forcing Simon’s hand.

How do I know? Daughtry, Durbin, Juliet Simms, did any of them win?

Wait. What? That’s three different types of rock singers right there. Are you proposing that winning is just a function of the genre they sing in, and has nothing to do with vocals, song choice, audience choice or personas? That Country singer X will win over Rock singer Y ?

By that reasoning, KLC ought to have won Season 7, not David C – (with apologies to the KLC Mojo) she didn’t – or  Aaron Kelly over Lee DeWyze or Michael Sarver over Kris Allen  - they didn’t.

That’s just off the top of my head – three counter examples – which definitely don’t have any substantive claims to make about country singers vs rock singers, BTW.

Why is it so hard to just say Tate is good – without a specious argument full of holes? (Not that there’s anything wrong with that) *snerk*

  • irockhard

I never said that Tate wasn’t good.

  • Incipit

Lol. OK, I give up – I have no idea what you are talking about then, irockhard.

I think we’re getting dangerously close to the “True Scotsman” fallacy – so it’s time for me to step away from the discussion. It’s all good.

Please tell Khloe to stop SHOUTING–!!

Love X Factor! Perfect entertainment for me. Love the stage effects! I am happy that my favorites are safe this week. Tate Stevens, Arin Ray, Fifth Harmony, Emblem3 and Paige.

THis CeCe needs to come back, I dont know why I like this young lady so much, but I do http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7QO48FGESV0&feature=fvsr   I feel like I did about Haley, at first no one liked her much on here then look how far she went.  My favorite is vino though

  • suenigma

Look, I kinda like Daughtry, but he doesn’t rock any harder than David Cook – I’d say much less so live, but that’s just me. LOL. Juliet is great, but she’s doing the acoustic, singer-songwriter thing now too. And Durbin has a fantastic voice and I like his vibe, but let’s be honest, what he’s doing is not exactly cutting edge or modern either. Rock is dead my friend, or perhaps it merely lies in wait, cryogenically frozen, along with Rasputin’s penis and Ted William’s head. ;)

Bwahahaha! *Rimshot* – Music Equals Life, May 2006

I theorize that the popularity of dudes who rock on any of the shows is because they are NOT on popular radio…and the demographic that still prefers that genre has an artificially limited access to new examples of the music they would listen to by preference…so they are drawn to examples of it on the shows.

This is my theory too.  And I think it goes across age groups.  It has been my experience that people who do not like most current pop, especially hip hop and rap, tend to like country or rock instead.   And that includes teenagers.

To me, Tate comes across more of an artist than anyone else, and also might even have potential to be the most sucessful after the show, especially if he wins or comes in second. I think this mainly because country radio has been the most accepting of the singing competition contestants, and many country artists are his age even ones just starting out.

Even if someone more  pop won, it might be harder for them to get on the radio.

  • dabney c

Mmm, I dunno. For me, Haley was unique and special, but this girl is very ordinary. Just another pop wannabe with a non-descript look and voice.

  • sumidol

Oh I agree Haley is all of that but so is this girl, she had a more unique  look  until Demi took that away from her and she is  beautiful where Haley is  very pretty, I like Haley’s voice more but this young lady is special and unique also and pop will get you radio play, exposure an

My two cents on the Rockers vs. County singers: more country fans watch these shows now than rock fans.
More fans=more votes? Maybe it’s just that simple.

It’s a cultural thing too. On Finnish and Swedish Idol they had some real rockers/metalheads as winners.

My two cents on the Rockers vs. County singers: more country fans watch these shows now than rock fans.

I think there is a lot of overlap.  I know quite a few people that were rock fans when they were younger, but became country fans as adults.   And some of what is now considered country was once considered rock.

More fans=more votes? Maybe it’s just that simple.

I think it is that simple. And more fans=higher sales.

  • WD79

Hmm, I don’t know. I think revealing the rankings IS interesting. I mean, how many of you actually thought that CeCe would be 5th? Probably none right? And the top 4 is actually quite close in votes with each other. That’s gotta tell you something.

  • wkstrack

LOL No WAY. Cece is no Haley Reinhart. Haley was actually likable and an underdog. She also never got the bitch edit Cece has. Cece is neither of those things. I have to say I was disappointed in the eliminations and shocked. Lyric 145 and Jennel are more talented and have better stage prescence than say someone like Paige. But I think the judges got rid of Jennel because they knew she was the only threat in Demi’ category. No one really cares about Paige.

  • sumidol

Hello! I never said she was a Haley what I said was in the beginning a lot of people on here hated Haley and I was always sticking up for her, I liked her from the beginning for whatever reason, same thing here -
