X Factor 2 Finale Pairings Revealed!

The X Factor  two night finale will be broadcast by FOX on Wednesday and Thursday of this week at 8/7c pm. . The judges, including Simon Cowell, LA Reid, Demi Lovato and Britney Speaars, hosts Khloe Kardashian and Mario Lopez, plus the remaining 3 final acts, met with reporters in Los Angeles tonight (Dec 17) to answer questions.

The big revelation were the duet partners who will sing with each of the 3 finalists on Wednesday. Here’s how it will shake out:

  • Fifth Harmony will perform with Demi Lovato (!!!)
  • Tate Stevens will perform “Pontoon” with Little Big Town (via Music Row)
  • Carly Rose Sonenclar will perform with Lee Ann Rimes

So, kids. What’s wrong with this picture? I think it’s cool that Simon Cowell set up his girls, Fifth Harmony to sing with his “frenemy” on the panel,  Demi Lovato. The group has performed two of Demi’s hits–”Give Your Heart a Break” and “Skyscraper” during the competition, so that pairing is perfect.

Reportedly, Tate wanted to sing with country superstar, Garth Brooks, but was told he “was not an option. But Little Big Town agreed. The country hit makers aren’t legends like Garth is, but they are a successful country act, and apparently, Tate is stoked. “It’s going to be super awesome,” ‘he says.

And we come to Carly. The Broadway pop singer. Who is paired up with...Leann Rimes? There are a couple of problems here. The least of which is that Carly has never sung a country tune on the show, and I’d wager a bet–ever in her life. Leann’s country stylings are totally out of the young singer’s wheelhouse.

But that’s minor compared to the tiny image problem Leann brings with her. Actually it’s not tiny. Leann is pretty well loathed by lots of people who consider her a homewrecker for breaking up the marriage of the man she is now married to. What’s more, Leann is a total trainwreck, suing ordinary folk after engaging in twitter wars, and publicly feuding with her husband’s ex-wife who ALSO happens to be one of those annoying Bravo housewives.

YUCK. I’d almost think that Simon was trying to throw Carly under the bus. Hm.

    Maybe Simon is trying to get Carly to reconsider show biz altogether. When your mentor is Britney and they partner you with Leann, the not so subtle message is that child stardom wrecks your life.

    WHOAH! What’s hapenning? I think the world is going to end a day earlier than the date predicted which is 12/21/12. 5th harmony and demi lovato?? yeah, demi is talented but..she’s one of the judges right? It’s SO SO SO not right! So bias! yeah? 

    ..and carly and leanne? tsk! tsk! i dunno what to say! 

    for sure simon will say that there will be a big big big changes on season 3!  

    i think season 1 is much better that season 2!

    I just realised that they are making a statement that Demi could sing live whilst Britney can’t sing a note live!!!  Furthermore Britney would sound shit singing next to Carly.

    Leann Rimes has a song “Borrowed” that went to country adds yesterday. I wonder if that is what she will be singing with Carly tonight.

    Not impressed with these stars. Not A list… And don’t like Demi singing with another category.. No one wanted to perform with 5th Harmony? And I agree with the Leanne thing. That’s the best they could get & someone with so much scandal performing with a 13yo girl? Very fishy indeed… But I lost faith in Simon a while ago

    Whhhatt? Simon intentionally throwing someone under the bus? No way…….

    Carly Rose is not going to be country, I can bet on that, so where the hell did the choice of Lee Ann Rimes come from? Come on Simon, for someone who boasts he sold a lot of records, you make some some stupid decisions sometimes.

    It does seem like Sabotage to pair Carly Rose with Leann. The only excuse I could hear TPTB making about that pairing is that Leann was a country star at a very young age. But since Carly Rose isn’t a country act, that really makes no sense, either.

    yeah but they didn’t do duets with famous artists on Idol S8 until after the finale performance show was over and all the votes were in, so they didn’t really throw Kris under the bus Top 3 or even Top 2 week (even if Apologize was not a great judges’ choice for him Top 3 week, Danny’s judges’ song choice was probably worse, in retrospect). This is a different situation with with XF, since the duets will come on the finale performance show, so people will likely consider those duets when voting.

    I would love to hear Lightweight, My Love Is Like a Star or Fix a Heart for Fifth Harmony. I also think we tend to overestimate the number of people in Demi’s fanbase who will vote for Fifth Harmony. A lot of Demi’s fans are foreign and many of them only care about Demi, not about voting for someone with whom she’s performed. I don’t think Fifth Harmony will catch up to Carly or Tate, esp. now that he’s paired up with Little Big Town.

     I think it’s potentially a truly diabolical set of pairings, depending on song choices.  LeAnn’s image may hurt Carly’s votes, and poorly chosen country song could further hurt her chances of winning (especially if it’s a song that doesn’t suit her very well, or that simply isn’t a very good song for a competition of this sort).  But while Carly singing a country song may cost her some of her voting fans (some of whom may turn to 5H), it may also take some of the country music loving vote away from Tate.  This, coupled with Demi’s popularity, could allow 5H to win.

    Demi fans ==> 5H
    Some Carly fans ==> 5H (because of song choice)
    Some Carly fans ==> 5H or don’t vote (because of LeAnn’s image)
    Some Tate votes ==> Carly (because of song choice or liking LeAnn)

    For insurance, give Tate *another* Bon Jovi song, or something not in his wheelhouse.

    I love Leann. I’ve been a fan since I was a kid. I choose to ignore her personal life and focus on her music.

    She’s so underrated, musically.

    Carly is good for broadway and boring. Throw her under the bus. Tate is a doucheybag and oldie. Throw him under the bus. Simon knows who he wants to get the 5 mil.

    If she sings Can’t Fight the Moonlight, can they have her do the whole Coyote Ugly production walking across the bar? Because that would be so appropriate for a 13-year-old :)
