Congrats to the United States Women’s Soccer team, which won the World Cup Trophy for the first time in 16 years. It’s a record breaking 3rd World Cup for the US, beating the defending champs, Japan, 5-2.

USA USA USA!!! Oh. And GIRL POWER!

America mostly dominated the game, played in Vancouver Canada on Sunday, with a huge assist from Carli Lloyd, who scored three times, the first hat-trick in a women’s final, to lead the United States to Victory. Hooray!

“I’m so proud and so zapped at the same time,” Lloyd said. ” It doesn’t feel real. We just made history.”  Scoring in the third, fifth and 16th minutes of play, It was her third goal that stunned the crowd. The player took a pass at the halfway line and and kicked a goal from 55 yards.

Japan’s goalkeeper was helpless as the ball flew across the line.  Lloyd was awarded the Golden Ball, as the best player at the World Cup. She also tied for most goals (6) in the tournament with Celia Sasic of fourth-place Germany.
