Yes. I’m lazy.   I want help.   I’ll be attending Press Hour tomorrow before the Idols concert in Boston (still don’t have tickets by the way. EEP!   I’ll snag something last minute tomorrow…).

I’m making up a list of questions for each of the Top 10, and in order for my question not to end up as a future interview question for a rubber chicken, I’m trying to come up with questions that go beyond the typical cliche (i.e. I couldn’t care LESS what any of them think of Paula Abdul).

So, help a blogger out…Post a question!

  • wyked_whyspers

If you get to talk to Adam, which I am kinda doubting, anyhow, I would like to know what classification vocally he considers himself. I have heard anything from tenor, lyrical tenor, counter tenor, to baritone with tenor aspects and a killer falsetto. Would like to have his take on it.

  • anthrogeek

    Yay!! For Adam:
    1) Kick-gate – need I say more?? (and is he tired of the toys yet and/or sorry he created a monster by encouraging it?)
    2) Sick-gate – laryngitis or just sick? (Maybe neither, for all we know!)
    3) Don’t forget to ask about that Macy’s T-day Parade deflated helium balloon of an album cover outfit/Glamtastic Polar Expedition suit!
    4) And for all… if you dare… do they read your blog??

    Thanks, MJ! You rawk!!

  • isisdagmar

This is probably way too specific and not that interesting to many people, but it was fascinating to hear Adam talk about why Velvet Goldmine was his favorite movie, and I’d love to know why The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay is his favorite book (It really is great, everyone should read it).

Pretty much any album-related question that yields details we haven’t yet heard from Adam, Allison, or Kris, is welcome, but I would really, really love to find out more about Adam’s collaboration with Sam Sparro.

  • poster

Ask Matt where he gets all his energy from and how much sleep does he require?? He’s always busy!

  • Teri63

For Adam: I’ve read lots of articles that describe you as being a multi-octave singer and several that have said you sing 3 octaves. Although I have no musical ability whatsoever, I’m amazed by your range and am wondering how many octaves you can reach.

Also for Adam: I know you love eating out at restaurants. Do you have a favorite ethnicity of food?

  • Squirrely

    1. Question for whomever – out of the top 10 finalist, which two would you like to do a collaboration with?

  • jaimej40

To all of the Top Ten:

Lots of Idol finalists have collaborated on their albums post Idol. If you could collaborate with one of your fellow “Top Ten”, who would it be and why? (writing or performing)

  • wyked_whyspers

I would also like to know what kind of leggings Adam is wearing under those leather pants and where he got them. They kind of look like a snake skin design, but hard to tell.

As for a good questions for all the idols, I’m thinking about it. Will get back to you.

Also for Adam, it seems whenever I’ve heard him talk about food, he never seems to mention any meat, he mentions whole foods alot and greens, and staying away from junk food. I have been wondering if he is a vegetarian?

  • Dallas

For Adam, Kris or Allison (since they are the only ones recording currently:)

We’ve read that you are having some vocal strain..how does that affect your ability to record on your day off?

  • adrienne33

Like Adam, I also grew up in San Diego so I would like to know what he misses most from his old hometown.

  • Sherena

Could you ask Adam what his full vocal range is (highest/lowest note)? There’s been speculation based on his Idol run and Upright videos, but I’d really like to know what it is exactly.

  • Dallas

    For Adam:

Please tell us about the album photo shoot outfit…please. Please. Please.

  • sanhaleyfan

    For Anoop-

What do you think of the Kardashian sisters? Kim, Khole, & Kourtney?

  • capricorn

    for the “girls”

How is it having Allison’s mom on the bus?

  • mikeyb

Here’s my list. Not much by the way of serious questions, but I’m not in that mindframe right now. I’m also hungry, which is why there are two food questions. =P Good luck and have fun, MJ!

Kris — What do you like on your hotdogs/hamburgers?
    Adam — Boxer or briefs?
Danny — Favorite ice cream flavor?
Allison — Do you have a driver’s license? What kind of car are you going to get after the tour?
Matt — What’s your favorite kind of dance?
Anoop — Who’s your favorite action star?
Lil — Are you doing any songwriting? Working with any songwriters?
Scott — What are the qualities in a girl that would cause you to ask her out?
Megan — Do you plan on pursuing formal vocal training?
Michael — What kind of shoes do you like?

  • Sherena

Kris– in what ways does he think he’s matured as a songwriter since BNS.

  • sidewalkstory

This one may be too old to ask Adam at this point but I still want to know. How come he was the only one not wearing sunglasses during the number Paula choreographed (Shake Your Body Down)?

  • CamelliaSin

    For Kris
Any details on plans for post album release tour?
Will there be a single prior to the album, if so when??
Any update on the Heartless re-recording rumors?

    For all idols
What ‘s your most played track on your ipod/mp3?
    Twitter: love/ hate it ?

  • https://twitter.com/pmhowden undercooked

Did they really take that on-line IQ test..?

  • Sherena

Did they really take that on-line IQ test..?

    Huh… when was this rumor?

  • beckysspam

For Allison (some of them could go for any of the idols) … a couple ideas for questions:

    1. When can we expect a single? Any info on it (will it be upbeat, a ballad, midtempo)?

    2. Is there any person that she thinks “gets her” more than others? What do they get about her that others don’t.

    3. When is the best time (other than at meet & greets) for fans to approach you? The worst?

    4. A few people have mentioned that little girls look up to her. Does she feel any pressure to act a certain way? Does she see herself as a role model and how does she feel about the label of role model being applied to her in the future?

    5. What’s her favorite cuisine?

    6. What types of things is she going to be singing about on her album?

    7. She spoke about how she gets nervous for performances before, but now that she’s been on tour for a while, does she still get nervous/blank out on stage?

  • dietcoke

For Adam: Is his earpiece bothering him? He is always touching it during his performances. Also, is he aware of the helium and chipmunk sounds of his heard by some during the show.

  • wyked_whyspers

You might ask the idols in general if any of them have ever had the acting bug, and if so what type of movie they would like to be in or character they would like to play, or other aspects of entertainment they would consider pursuing, such as game show hosting, or realty tv (internet) hosting (Matt) etc..?

  • Teri63

For Allison: You’ve been hanging out with (comparatively) old fogies for the past year or so. What’s your favorite activity when you get together with other high school-age kids?

  • victoriajv

For Adam: He posted a pic on Twitter of some YSL boots he was obessed with – did he buy them?

  • Sherena

I second the most played track on their Ipod question, for all of them.

And for Michael– what direction is he going to take his career after the tour? I heard that he had a recording contract in talks?

  • Truthiness

Not about the idols, but hope you enjoy the show! and I still recommend foam ear plugs. Even the cheap yellow ones can be useful, and they can come in their own carrying case.

Regardless, have fun at the show (I’m sure you’ll get tickets), best of luck with the interviews. I have no doubt the questions you ask won’t be lame.

But if you ask Kris, ask if he was able to get one producer as he said he wanted to in a previous interview. And what type of sound, specifically, will he be going for. Saying it’s like the show, doesn’t suffice.

  • Adamdebomb

    For Adam:
What was your most painful rejection? What part did you really really want and you didn’t get it, even though you were sure you were the best one for the part.

  • hypnoticwhisper

-Can Adam hook up Matt and Katy Perry?

    - If any of them could vote for any other contestant besides themselves. who would it be?

  • http://www.last.fm/user/chachithegreat chachi

That is awesome, MJ! I always like the random questions, so that’s what I’ll go with (though my Kris loving self would love an album question if you get to meet him). I also like hearing them talk about each other. So, Yeah.

Who would you trust to save you in the event of a zombie apocalypse?
Which one of the idols would win in a Season 8 cage match?
    Who snores on the bus?
Who is most likely to go to Vegas and blow all of their money?
    etc etc

I don’t know, I don’t know. I gave most of my random questions to Matt and he didn’t answer them. :’(

  • alison8701

You should ask Anoop if his music will be grammatically correct. Or if he’ll rap on his album. And if he raps, will it be grammatically correct?

Sorry. I can’t think of any thing better. But I think they will be appreciative of you not asking them the same ol same ol. “How’s tour going?” “Favorite part?” “Crazy fan encounters?”

  • cake

    Anoop:
Will you date Megan Joy? If not, why?
Is there a tension between you and Megan since there’s a rumor that you guys dating?
What is your fave brand tee and shoes?

    Megan:
Will you say “Yes” to Anoop if he will ask you to be his girlfriend?
Why are you getting tons of tattoo?

    Matt:

One word you can describe about Anoop & Megan? Adam? Danny? Lil? your fanbase?

  • ppwars

ALLISON: When did Fuller (date, before finale?) tell Alli JIVE wanted to pick her up? Was actual signing before Finale; and, if so, did album work begin before Finale. If signing was after finale, when, and when did work begin?

    THANK YOU

  • hypnoticwhisper

    - Does any of them besides Megan have tattoos?

    - What’s their guilty pleasure?

    - Who’s their celebrity crush?

    - How do all the guys fit on one bus?

  • star

For any of them, which of their own Idol studio recordings was their favorite?

If you get to talk to Adam, since he’s so into visuals and seems excited about making his own music videos, what’s his favorite music video of all time?

  • Sherena

Idol most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse.

This question encompasses so many things.. hardiness, perseverence, ingenuity… it’s very deep.

  • LisaE

I’m just going to throw ideas out there:

    All Idols:

–If you could follow the career path of any artist, who would it be and why?

–Celeb breakdown you would most like to avoid?

–If you could open for/tour with any artist out there today, who would it be and why?

–Song you wish you had written and why?

–If you could cast the upcoming VH1 Divas show, who are your top 5 favorite divas?

–5 words to describe your performing style (I liked Adam’s earlier answers)

    Unsigned Idols:

–Would you rather sign with an indy label that allows for more artistic control or a major label that would provide big time money and support?

–Do you believe your performance on tour (and reviews) will have any impact on whether or not you are signed?

–If you don’t wind up in music, what can you see yourself doing in the future?

    Adam:

–In future concerts, do you want to take the rock route and perform with a band or the pop route and perform with dancers.

–Ideal lead guitarist for your future band?

–You’ve gravitated heavily towards British artists; Is there a reason for that? What’s the main difference, if you see one, between British rock/pop and American rock/pop?

    Adam/Allison:

–How do you define the term “rock star.” People tend to hold that term sacred, do you think that’s fair? Is it impossible to come out of American Idol and have any sort of “rock cred” in the future?

–If there were no expectations as far as sales of your album, what’s the craziest thing you would put on your album? Any crazy cover songs?

    I’ll be back… :P

  • alison8701

Don’t ask any Meganoop questionssssssss. they’ve both been asked constantly. And I imagine it’s kind of embarrassing.

  • jaimej40

When I saw the Idols on tour, I couldn’t take my eyes off Scott during the Beggin’ number. How does he learn the choreography? He was awesome.

Did they really take that on-line IQ test..?

LMAO! I always wonder that myself.

  • bandidthecat

I’m actually tired of lazy people who have the privilege of press passes to meet the idols and then don’t do the work of coming up with questions. You’re not the only one, just the latest one.

You have the pass – think up some questions yourself! Or give the press pass to someone who will – maybe someone here who has already come up with some fabulous questions.

  • Leslie91791

For Adam and/or Kris: With such a hectic schedule – traveling all over the country and trying to fit in recording and writing sessions, how do you manage to get any rest? I’m sure don’t get enough rest, but do you sleep on the bus? Get hotel rooms? Get sick due to lack of rest?

  • Squirrely

For Adam: Do you keep in touch with the ‘Fierce Black Girl From Compton’ who gave you your first kiss?

  • linds2815

I’d ask more behind the scenes questions. Like what they do or talk about right before they’re about to get on stage for Don’t Stop Believing.

Ask them what is the craziest/funniest thing that’s happened on either bus. And which of them (girl or guy bus) snores the loudest or talks in their sleep. Silly questions like that. :p

  • alison8701

I like that MJ is letting us ask some questions. Of course, if I were to submit a real good Anoop question and she asked and he answered I don’t know what I’d do. I’d be so embarrassed and I’d probably die.

  • Eileen99

Kris ‘” What do you like on your hotdogs/hamburgers?

    I whole-heartedly endorse this question.

  • beckysspam

I’m actually tired of lazy people who have the privilege of press passes to meet the idols and then don’t do the work of coming up with questions. You’re not the only one, just the latest one.

I actually think it’s kind of cool because sometimes interviewers get questions that are really creative and interesting (especially from the fans that know a lot about their favorites) and there’s sometimes an opportunity to get in questions/answers that aren’t the same old boring ones.

Yes… it’s so cool to meet them, but I appreciate the chance to submit questions for Allison (like I did above) that a few of us Allison fans have thought of/want to know, even if it isn’t asked.

  • Susan M.

For Adam: How did he hear about the comments Brian May made about him?

Also, is he aware that the Digital Dream Door Music Forum named him (after extensive, knowledgeable debate) the No. 2 Best Technical Singer of All Time and named his “Heaven On Their Minds,” the No. 1 Best Live Rock Vocal Performance?

Does Allison plan to graduate with her class? Will she hold off touring until then?

Do any (other than those, such as Anoop or Kris who have already addressed this) plan to permanently relocate once the tour is over?

  • BestAI

Adam: Is his Mad World just part of the promo of FlashForward, or will it be played every week for the series?

  • Sherena

Allison– when is her first single coming out? Has she shot her album art yet?

    3 for Adam:

When is he likely to start his own tour promoting his first album?
    (I’m planning well ahead…) :razz_wp:

What is going on with this now widely reported ‘helium’ effect, apparently mainly on Starlight?

And hopefully – is his reported illness/laryngitis getting better? Must be very difficult for him.

    Thanks MJ

  • alison8701

Ask Anoop if, while he is waiting to go on stage, if he dances to Lil’s “single ladies” performance. I’m always curious about that.

Oh, I’m also curious as to why the Jacket dropping in Beggin’ stopped. Wardrobe peeps gettin’ in a huff? Anoop did step on his occasionally. Scott maybe wanted to join in, but the added in choreography was too complex?

Also, what would Anoop do if something was thrown at him on stage. Like, if a bra was thrown. Would be annoyed or flattered? Flattered, but still kind of annoyed?

You could also do superlatives, but it seems like answer is “Matt”

Would it be uncomfortable to ask if there is anything the idols said that they regret? Because they would have to repeat said statement. But I’d be curious of Danny is aware how he comes off.. or if he cares. Or if Allison regrets saying she hates her songs. The problem is- they’re unpolished, and we tend to digest/dissect everything they say. Is there a point where the PR people step aside, and just let them be honest?

  • PRMari

    For Allison:

    1. How much input did any of you have on the song and outfit selection process for the tour.

    2. How do you plan on celebrating your 18th birthday?

    3. If you could go on tour with any artist/band you wanted, who would you go on tour with?

    For Kris :
What do you miss most about Arkansas aside from your family and the amazing people?

  • Susan M.

    For any of them:

For Lil, Megan and Michael, how often do they get to see their kids? Do they Skype them?

  • rockvixen

    for Adam:

What’s the most embarrassing thing/situation that has happened to him on the tour (even though he says he doesn’t get embarrassed)?

    Questions for Allison:

    1. (It seems I’m the only person who cares about this, but) – Why did you cut the original tour ending of Cry Baby after LA?

    2. Why did it take so long before you uttered the word “barracuda”?

    3. Do you sometimes feel the band is too loud and you have to strain to sing over them?

    4. Will your new album include any “soulful” songs, or are they all going to be high energy?

    5. How’s the schoolwork coming? Have you finished yet?

    6. Do you get tired of people analyzing how you move your left arm?

    7. What attracted you to Janis Joplin? How many of her songs do you know, and have you watched her old videos?

    8. You said you almost chose Somebody to Love for Rock Week. Are you a fan of the Jefferson Airplane, or did you just like the song?

I think it would make him laugh. Or would he be annoyed? Oh but you’re not video recording. Still. You could relay his face message.

Plus, the whole purpose of the site (for me, anyway) is to think about and discuss all the hoop-la surrounding the cultural phenomenon that is American Idol. Countless fans have expressed our views on this site; I think it’s awesome, and I, personally, feel flattered, that after reading all of our crazy comments and specific-Idol-centric debates, MJ thinks we might come up with some doozie questions! In a former life a million years ago until my kids were born, I worked as part of a writing team; We were a TEAM because multiple heads sometimes think better than one!

Love the questions about other season 8 Idol contestant collaborations.

    Some of my suggestions:
What was their favorite group song / performance?
What was the best advise / criticism given to you by one of the mentors?
What was your favorite performance by another contestant on Idol this year?
What would the title of your book about your Idol journey be called?

    For Adam:

What do you say to the people who claim you belong on Broadway?

MJ, you are so lucky! I don’t have any questions, but just wanted to wish you an awesome time!

  • FifthHouseSun

Idol is all about covers, but who would you most like, one day, to cover you?

What’s the most generous (or scary, or romantic) thing that’s ever happened to you?

Do you like to cook? What?

Which tour performance do you secretly watch from back stage the most?

You win a free trip to any city in the world. Where would you go? Why?

Have you ever posted secretly on an American Idol blog? (If yes, of course all the follow-ups of which one and why?)

For Matt, Michael, Lil, Megan, and Anoop: What’s your two-sentence “elevator speech” about why a label should sign you right now? Are there any hidden pre-idol recordings that would show the direction your album might take? Are you going to make any MySpace type demos after the tour to showcase that direction? Are there rules against doing that now?

and I still recommend foam ear plugs.

mj may already do this. But, Truthiness, good advice. The discussions here got me to take them. Totally makes all the difference. Can adjust for each performer. Even take one (or both) out on some songs. Strangely blocks out Bandzilla, makes voices clearer. Prevents pain.

    (1) What is your Default Ring tone on your phone right now
What are your Other ring tones on your phone

    (2) Were you involved in organized music programs growing up (vocal or other)? Where you grew up – were music participants “mainstream/cool” or did musicians exist on the fringe? Were you involved in anything unusual musically?

    (3) Who else in your family is a vocalist? Tell us about them.

    (4) Who in your personal circle (family/friends/acquaintances) do you admire/respect most – and why?

    (5) If your house was on fire, and you could only save ONE item (people and pets are already safe), what would that be. Tell us about it.

    (6) Who is always first off the bus? Who is always last off the bus? Who is always late for the bus in the morning?

    (7) You guys spend a LOT of time backstage before and during the show. I imagine the rooms in different arenas are NOT the same. What makes a good one? A bad one? If you could design your own what attributes would it contain. (And what would be absent).

    (8) Any close calls with the elevated stage floor?

    (9) Do you have any plans for the first few weeks after the tour is over?

    Questions for Adam:

What is going to be the theme of his album cover? (dark lord in a castle, vampires, all that is glitter, etc). We know if he says the Michelin, Gumby theme, we are in trouble!!!!!

Is he going to have a duet with Lady Gaga on the album?

Was he happy with the photoshoot? And what was the best part of it? How many costumes did he get to wear? Does he have a favorite photo from the shoot that he wants for the cover?

Is his song for 2012 going to be played during the closing credits?

Does he have a title for his album yet? (Please don’t let it be self-titled!)

  • CindyM

    For all the idols:

If you could only name the one artist who has been the greatest inspiration to you musically, who would it be?

For Matt: While I understand that peforming for such large audiences must be a thrill, do you miss the direct interaction you had with your audience back in the hotel dueling piano days?

For Anoop: Why does Barbecue matter in the South?? (The title of his senior undergraduate thesis was “Why Barbecue matters in the South”.(wikipedia)

For Allison: Due to the heavily female dominated demographic of American Idol, do you think a female can win the title in the future?

For Kris: Since you are featured prominently in Disney ads, who is your favorite Disney character and why??

For Lil: If you could take your husband and children on vacation to any place in the world, where would you choose and why??

For Adam: Who is your favorite artist and what is your favorite artwork from them?

First of all, the blog starts with “I’m lazy’… I didn’t make the suggestion myself.

Second of all, there are plenty of great questions here. Kudos to everyone who had thought of them. Perhaps the pass should go to someone who is actually thinking up the questions. I didn’t say *I* wanted the pass, just someone who IS thinking up great questions.

Ask Adam – What is he going to do with his tour outfit at the end of the tour?
    – What is he going to do in terms of some R&R after the tour – to get rid of the screaming and shouting and 50 grueling concerts out of his system. Will he take a well deserved break if his busy schedule permits.

Ask Megan – Which direction will she be taking like endorsements for cosmetics, hair products etc. Is she going to continue singing as well. Are there any talks about signing a record deal.

Ask Lil Rounds – Which direction is she going to take musically. I know she said R&B but is there another genre she is considering as well. Also if there are any talks about signing a record deal any time soon.

Ask Matt and Danny – Are they considering moving to LA – do they like the lifestyle there? If so that do the like about it.

For any/all of the Idols (I’m sure some of these have already been asked, but I’m trying to brainstorm something original here! LOL!):

    1. Many people can sing, play instruments, etc., but do so on the side as a hobby. What inspired you to want to be a full-time entertainer? If you weren’t an entertainer, what do you think you would be doing for your career? What did you think you’d become when you were a little kid?
    2. What is the greatest lesson you’ve learned while on tour that will aid you in future life/career choices?
    3. What has been the most difficult/frustrating aspect of touring?
    4. When you’re back home from touring, what’s the first thing you want to do/place you want to go/food you want to eat, etc.?

if this is too eww to ask then please disregard, but it is a question I have wondered about.

For any of the Idols – performance after performance you wear the same outfits. Who takes care of all that laundry?

eta: have there been any “omg Im not going to get my clothes back in time” moments? If so what did you do?

thx for letting us help MJ. Have a great time tomorrow!

  • JosieX

For Scott: I’d ask about the dog that Paula got for him. What is its name and who is taking care of it? When he travels in the future will it accompany him?

Actually, I don’t remember ever hearing any of them being asked about pets. I love animals and love hearing people talk about their pets, so I’d enjoy hearing about this from any of them.

Back to Scott. He has mentioned that he has a contract to write his memoirs. Is there anything in his contract with AI that would preclude him from talking about his Idol experience? (I know you know a lot more about the show and may know this already).

On the subject of memoirs, I would totally buy a book from Adam or Danny. I think they both have very compelling personal stories. Are they considering this? This might be a good one for Anoop too, mainly because he seems to be analytical and reflective and would probably be a good writer.

For Kris, I have seen at least one review that says he doesn’t seem to be emotionally connected with the audience, and it seems that he is in his own world that we are observing. Is he happy with that aspect of his performance? How does he think his own tours will be different from what we are seeing now?

For Megan, I saw a mention that she was being considered for a Stevie Nicks biopic. Is that still a possibility? Is she taking other steps to launch an acting career?

For Danny, when can we expect an announcement on his record deal? Also, he must be excited that the Milwaukee show is coming up soon. Any special plans? (You could ask Matt the same thing about upcoming Michigan shows).

That’s it for now, I’ll come back if I think of anything else.

Oh, and I have to agree that the thought of MJ as lazy is very funny. I have been on here pretty much every day for months now, and the number of days that I’ve come on without there being a new headlines thread and other new content is zero, as I recall. I think it’s great that she is asking for input on questions. She is actually creating MORE work for herself to weed through all this input and evaluate it rather than just winging it.

I don’t know how to phrase this as a question but maybe you will. Adam had a tweet about if it was appropriate to recommend the Neal Cassady video to under-16s and Adam’s reply was that the commenter was snarky or something and that he didn’t recommend it. This is the gist – not phrased verbatim. What I wonder is this: Has Adam thought about bringing his audience along slowly into more offbeat and unusual content as he builds his career? In other words, that video was strong for some elements, altho I liked it. I know you can’t please everyone, but should he rethink what’s appropriate?

    For any of them:

Before or during Idol, did you read much about the record industry? Artist contracts, music sales and charts, and so on? Do you have a mentor, or someone experienced who helps you understand the commercial parts of an artist’s career?

This is a tough one, but if five years from now you were not making a living from your music, do you have an idea what path you might take? Do you think it would still have been worth it to do Idol, for the ride and the experience?

No, you didn’t come up with the lazy comment, however the spirit in which MJ used it, perhaps expressing some weariness, as she works on this website 24/7 it seems to the regulars here, and the spirit in which you commented on it, were completely different. MJ requested some assistance knowing everyone here would like to participate and wanting to do a good interview for us, and you came off rude, spiteful and a bit jealous.

Here’s my questions for you to ask the Idols:

    For Adam:

    1. What size girl jeans do you wear?

    2. What exercise or workouts are you doing on tour?

    3. How much of the audience’s reaction can you hear and what exactly is the function or purpose of those things in your ears?

    4. What’s the scariest fan situation yet (besides the stalker)?

Pick a question and ask an idol. I hate it when each one is asked the same question all down the line.

What has surprised you the most about your post idol experiences?

How often are you able to keep in touch with friends and family?

Are there late night jam sessions on the bus?

    Any regrets?

Have any people you knew or met in your past tried to get in touch with you through your family or friends?

How much “me” time are you able to get in a day?

Does the crush of people wanting autographs before and after the show scare you?

Tell me about the most interesting incident when you were recognized in public and what happened.

How weird is it that you are recognized most everywhere you go? Would you like to go back to being anonymous sometimes?

    Adam:

With electronic elements to your music and what seems like an entire industry devoted to Autotune, will we still be able to hear your voice, exactly as it is, on your album?

A lot of the question I’ve seen so far for Adam, Kris, and Allison are ones I’d love to see answered as well. Thanks, MJ. I hope you get to interview at least one of those three. :)

    For any/all

You’ve been to many cities so far on the tour. Is there one city/state (other than home) that you would like to spend more time in?

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve received during the tour from a fan?

What song gets the most play on your ipod?

Are you more surprised when you are recognized on the street or when you aren’t?

Are you surprised at how many people follow you on twitter and how much buzz a twitter party or bubbletweet causes?

With Adam, I’d definitely ask about the house. I remember how animated he got about having dimmer switches! His mom said that she was going to help him look for one. I think I’d ask what aspect he is most excited about. Having a private hideaway to get away from it all? Or being able to entertain friends? Or being able to collect art that he loves? I’m not phrasing this succinctly but I think he would probably enjoy talking about this.

I believe Spring is correct about them being sewn into the holes! Too hot for leggings, anyway, but maybe ask why he wears knee-high boots when shorter ones would work just as well and be less hot.

No wait, I don’t care about his boots over other stuff above!

@FifthHouseSun, LOVED your mini-recap last night (insomniac lurking, but usually three pages behind). I hope you’re doing a full recap.

    Love this question:

Have you ever posted secretly on an American Idol blog? (If yes, of course all the follow-ups of which one and why?)

Oh, also I love Sunn’s question about scars ‘“ reminds me of that line in “All the Pretty Horses,” that goes something like (paraphrasing, it’s been years), “Scars are life’s way of reminding us that our past is permanent.”

The intersection between artist and fan is such a delicate balance. No one wants to be “that entitled fan” who invades your personal space but in a very real way we let you into our lives; your music is with us when we celebrate, sorrow, make love, shower or walk our dog. When we buy your music we are affirming that connection, we often feel you know us which is of course impossible: how can you let us into your life without you feeling that we are invading?

  • Adamme

mj – Now I wonder how are you going to choose which questions to ask if they only give you couple of minutes to sit with them.

  • spring2009

Since Adam has mentioned many times how important his family and friends will be throughout this journey, I am wondering if he has been able to keep in regular contact with them. (he’d better be talking to his mother regularly!!)

  • sylverine

It would be terrific if you could ask Adam if he’s aware of the DDD Music Forum, as in:

apart from being voted No2 for 100 Most Technically Skilled Rock Vocalists, (as Susan mentioned earlier) see
    http://forums.nutsie.com/viewtopic.php?t=18672&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

if he has seen the thread devoted to his vocal ability (29 pages so far!) “Adam Lambert thread”

    http://forums.nutsie.com/viewtopic.php?t=54895&postdays=0&postorder=desc&start=420

    - it would be so interesting if he kind of joined in the discussion. I’m sure he would enjoy reading it anyway, a real discussion of the music, as against all the fangirling!

This gives all the interesting rock threads:

    Adam:

You seem to have such a positive outlook on everything, do you consider yourself a spiritual person? If so, what spiritual philosophy most resonates with you?

We have heard about how foul smelling the fog used during your performance is, and your fans are concerned about the effects of it on your vocal cords and health.. Does the fog affect you or do you have any such concerns about the fog affecting you?

Are there any rituals you do to get ready for a performance?

Besides not talking much between performances and drinking tea, are there other measures you take to maintain the health of your voice?

Have you had to use medical intervention (steroid shots, etc.) to help with any problems with your vocal cords during this tour?

Can you talk about how you’re able to sing so well despite not being able to really fully rest your voice because of performancing, recording or being interviewed?

  • HotHotHot

    For Adam:

    Have you ever considered modeling?

    For Allison:

Do you want to go to college someday?

  • Cate

To Adam: You said you patterned your song choices on AI as a set-list, like David Cook. Would you also agree that the whole Idol experience, from beginning to end, works in a similar way in that the contestants, especially those with less experience, can grasp the amount of hard work and creativity involved in being successful musically? And following that, do you find that the Tour represents the next level in that process? It seems to be giving all a taste of fan-love and the thrill of performing before large audiences, countered by a lack of rest, increasing lack of privacy, intrusive fan behavior, and sky-high expectations. Is it a fair exchange for some kind of personal life? I know you will say “yes”, but why and how?

Second of all, there are plenty of great questions here. Kudos to everyone who had thought of them. Perhaps the pass should go to someone who is actually thinking up the questions. I didn’t say *I* wanted the pass, just someone who IS thinking up great questions.

I am so happy that MJ is getting a pass – she deserves it…I love this place. And I think that it is wonderful that she asked us what questions we would like answered…not that I can think of anything intelligent!

I LOVE the question from the front page for Adam about the hardest rejection to take. I’d really love to know his answer to that.

For any of them (sorry if I’m repeating any of these):

What is one song that you wish you had written?
What movie or tv series character is your favorite?
What is the best gift you received as a child?
What is the most interesting or unusual job you’ve had?
What is your favorite family vacation spot?

    Question for Adam and Kris—–

Will u be in a Guitar Hero Commercial like Cookie and Archie? Actually this would answer 2 questions……Boxers or briefs HAHA

  • iluvai

You have the pass – think up some questions yourself! Or give the press pass to someone who will – maybe someone here who has already come up with some fabulous questions.

I think it’s considerate that MJ would ask for input from the avid readers of her blog. (I personally don’t have a fascinating, fabulous question to ask, but it looks like there are some great ones to choose from.)

  • abbysee

For all of them, what one moment from their time on the show would they remember for the rest of their lives?

For Adam and Kris, would the outcome have been more difficult or easy if they had not liked each other so much.

    For everyone…

What is the biggest misconception about them, that was maybe fostered by the show.

Where to you see yourself in 5 years?

Is this early stardom what you hoped for or expected?

    What keeps you sane?

What one moment would you love to have back from the last 8 months?

What do they like doing more, performing, recording, smoozing fans?

  • ruskimom

    Dear MJ,

Fan wars. I get it now!!!

I think you can ask any of the idols these questions.

    1. What’s your favorite item to order off the room service menu?

    2. What’s the funniest sight you’ve seen looking out of the tour bus window?

    3. Has anyone talked in their sleep?

    4. How are you preparing yourself to not see each other everday after the tour?

Have a wonderful day interviewing the idols!!

  • readon

Should we dare ask a Drake question? In making decisons on projects, shoots, etc., is there an area where you value and trust Drake’s opinion? This questions could also apply to Kris and Katy.

  • HotHotHot

Gee, it’s good that MJ gets to ask the questions, because the rest of us would probably just stand there and squeeeeee…..

  • LKay

    For everyone…

  • wyked_whyspers

Okay, my leggings question is being vetoed apparently, and that is fine by me.

I really want to know the vocal aspects of his voice more than anything, classification (tenor vs. counter-tenor etc…) and range and octaves would all be great.

  • readon

Okay, my leggings question is being vetoed apparently, and that is fine by me.

Rules of brainstorming is that there is no veto. All ideas are accepted. MJ gets to make the final decison and has the final veto. That is unless, she decides to let us vote.

  • Q3

    Allison –

How were the songs selected for your tour set? Which is your favorite song of the four you perform in the tour?

Who was the stylist for your costumes on the tour?

    Adam -

You are collaborating with quite of number of people on your new album. Did they contact you and RCA or were they on your list of desired collaborators?

Are you currently working with a vocal coach?

Will you be producing videos for you entire album or just your singles?

How do you decide which hair style to wear for a concert performance?

Will your October single be the song you recorded for the soundtrack or a different song?

    Kris –

Are you on schedule to release your album in mid-November?

When will your first single be released?

ETA: You mentioned that you worked with Salaam Remi on a song. Does that mean that we can expect there to be a reggae-fusion song on your album?

  • debbie

For Adam: How did he hear about the comments Brian May made about him?

Also, is he aware that the Digital Dream Door Music Forum named him (after extensive, knowledgeable debate) the No. 2 Best Technical Singer of All Time and named his ‘Heaven On Their Minds,’ the No. 1 Best Live Rock Vocal Performance?

If he hasn’t heard about being named the No. 2 Best Technical Singer of All Time, someone needs to let him know!

For those of you asking about his vocal range, this was one of the criteria they used, and if you wade through the Adam Lambert thread there, you’ll see how they were measuring it.

And, MJ, thanks for asking us, but are you sorry you asked yet? :biggrin_wp:

  • newswoman

Okay, my leggings question is being vetoed apparently, and that is fine by me.

Definitely not vetoed, I know for certain that it is glitter-dot, because my daughter has had it on several dresses (don’t ask). Glitter-dot is what it is called here in Canada, maybe not elsewhere. I am just guessing it is sewn in.

  • LisaE

I LOVE the question from the front page for Adam about the hardest rejection to take. I’d really love to know his answer to that.

Do you mean musically? Because generally Adam already answered this question — he said that his hardest rejections have been in relationships. Pursuing them and not really having them reciprocated.

Re: Adam’s mom being a part of his “management team.” Leila said in the NC Times interview that she was going to be helping him out, maybe with fan mail or something. However, a fan met her backstage at the Newark show and she said that while she was helping out with fan mail for awhile, she is no longer dealing with that. So, I don’t know if she doing anything “business” related for Adam anymore. (That doesn’t necessarily negate the question, but it was info that may not have been shared.)

  • karrahbrooke

For Kris… Were “Bright Lights” and “All These Things That I’ve Done” both songs that you wanted to perform on the show but couldn’t clear or didn’t have the opportunity to do so?

  • Sherena

For those of you asking about his vocal range, this was one of the criteria they used, and if you wade through the Adam Lambert thread there, you’ll see how they were measuring it.

But there could be notes he CAN sing that he never has sung in a live performance… my interest was piqued by that one “Crazy” video where he suddenly started singing much lower than he ever has in any other video. Oh well, knowing my luck Adam won’t even be there.

  • kingfan221

As far as I can tell, they’ve gone through all pre-Idol videos and songs, of course everything idol, and someone has been posting songs from each tour. They went nuts over Crazy, talking about his lower register. I’m not musical enough to remember what all they said, but I know they think he’s the first rock vocalist in a long time to be this good. I mean, they’ve got him at #2 before he even releases an album, and voted HoTM as best live performance?

Kris: if you could rework any of your songs from Brand New Shoes for your new CD, which one would it be and why?

    1) for Adam: for some reason folks were worried about the kind of reception you would get in the South. Were you at all worried as well, and now that you’ve made your swing through the southern states unscathed, what would you tell the rest of the world about us?

    2) for Kris:
    a) if you could co-write with any past Idol or Idol contestant who would it be?
    b) have you thought about incorporating any viola into the album?
    c) I know you’re in the middle of a tour already, but have you started thinking about your solo tour, and would you consider a college tour similar to David Cook’s “Declaration” tour? (and more SEC schools, please!)
    d) David’s done a couple of videos, and even kissed a girl, but hey…he’s single! Since you’re married, AND heck, Katy’s interested in acting anyway, would you want her as your “love interest” in a video?

    3) for Kris and Michael: football season’s only a couple of weeks away…has the Arkansas/LSU rivalry intensified? And, what’s y’all’s opinion on the rumor that the SEC is trying to ban social media like Twitter and Facebook from games?

    4) for Anoop…just for argument’s sake, lets say the music thing doesn’t work…or it does, you do it for 20 years, then decide to move on. Could you see yourself teaching someday, like the great Bill Ferriss? (MJ, he’ll know who I’m talking about)

    MJ….You are the Best

  • Sveta

To Adam: during the season on Idol you created very believable, I would say even bull’s eye precise on-stage personalities: the lusty party animal, a tender rejected lover still attached to his object, a risky, careless adventurer on the prowl, a person in his rare absolutely happy moment, an intoxicated by desire love slave…

I was impressed by little details you used to create those characters: sly, sidelong glance in “Born to be wild”, a little grimace of disdain in the corner of your mouth in “Mad World”, worrisome, lost eyes drawn to ever moving camera in “Ring of Fire”, expression of hopeless tolerance in the “Tracks of my Tears”.

I would like to know how you found, prepared those interesting characteristics for the personalities in your little stories. It is a question about your creative process, how you build the new character, your artistic vision of future characters.

  • becausehelives

This happened ages ago but I have always wanted to know what Adam was thinking the night he was in the bottom 2. what side was he really choosing, the safe side or the unsafe side.

    I would ask Adam:
    1. If you could replay one moment of your life, what would it be? 2. If you could go back in time in order to attend one event from the past, what would it be?

I got the second question bc I was watching a special on woodstock tonight, and thought about what an epic event it would have been to attend…maybe adam feels the same way about something. On that note…

    3. If adam could have chosen a different generation to grow up in, what would it have been?

MJ:: THANKS for letting us participate in your first draft of questions for the idols!!!

    Questions:
Michael, Lil, Megan: Many people have a different perspective on life after they have children, do they feel that being parents in their twenties changes the type of songs they choose compared to their non-parent idols?

Danny: When you get a recording contract, do you think you will be moving to L.A. or somewhere else?

Did Adam Lambert’s father ever attend grade school in Indianapolis?? If so, and if…, tell Adam to tell him that we wished he would have stayed and we all would have walked out with him!! (if it was Eber, he’ll know what I’m talking about! lol)

Will Allison have a formal graduation ceremony and party?

Has Scott ever considered doing duets (Simon and Garfunkel type) with his brother?

Yes, the laundry has ran across my mind a few times! And, so has the questions of what they do on the bus! Do they play cards? Tell life stories? Jam? Have they ever switched busses during the day to talk with the girls?

And, do they all run into a gas station when the busses refuel to buy gum, mints, etc. like when a family is traveling?

Thanks for a great blog, MJ!!! Have fun!!!

    RE: MJ = lazy.

    How about MJ = smart.

Don’t you think MJ had probably already settled on her questions, and just posted this rhetorical exercise to keep people chatting at her site since there is no concert tonight?

    Just sayin…. muahahaha

  • http://www.lindafoltz.com linda2u

    For ALL of the Idols:

    1. What was your favorite song when you were 13?

    2. What ONE song from the past would you consider recording on your album? What kind of musical arrangement would you use?

    3. What is the funniest story about someone from your past showing up now that you’re famous?

    4. What one thing about the judging on American Idol would you like to see changed?

  • clearone

For Adam……..will you be attending the premiere of the movie 2012?

  • Truthiness

and I still recommend foam ear plugs.

mj may already do this. But, Truthiness, good advice. The discussions here got me to take them. Totally makes all the difference. Can adjust for each performer. Even take one (or both) out on some songs. Strangely blocks out Bandzilla, makes voices clearer. Prevents pain.

Exactly. You don’t have to wear them both all the time. And not surprising they can actually block out parts of bandzilla. Did you get any “helium effect,” by the way? Like I said, I’m looking for more data in my theory, so all the data I can get? The better.

    Back to questions…

I would like to know from Allison, who all she is working with and what kind of overall sound her record will be? How much pop versus the rock, will be on it, does she think? And will it be released in November like Kris and Adam’s? When does she think her first single will come out? Does she have a favourite song that she’s recorded thus far and if so, what type of music is it? The same question could be asked for Kris.

Same single question for Kris as well, he’s said that his album will be coming out in November, when does he expect his first single to be released? He’s mentioned that it might sound like his stuff on the show, he’s also said it might surprise some people, how might it surprise people? Will any of his songs on the record be acoustic? He’s mentioned doing song writing, what’s been the biggest frustation there? and what song is he most proud of right now? What type of song is it, what is it about? Has he recorded any songs that have been written wholly by others, and if so, who or what type of music is it? How far along with completing his record is he?

  • mar

I’m too lazy to come up with any, but I’ve liked these from the comments, for Adam:

-WHAT are your favorite websites to look at when bored?
    -What’s your ‘comfort song’ ?
-What spiritual philosophy most resonates with you?
-Have you had to use medical intervention (steroid shots, etc.) to help with any problems with your vocal cords during this tour?

I’d also like to know how the Max Martin collabo went :)

    Have a great time, MJ!

  • smartcookie

I’d like to know why Kris only had “All She Wants to Do Is Dance” for Year Your Were Born Week. How short was the list to choose from that week, anyway?

For any of them, I wonder who they thought TPTB wanted during Hollywood week. (Last year, everybody seemed to think that Archie, Michael Johns and Carly were pre-season faves. Had everybody noticed the push for Danny and Adam way back then?) Do they know about the pimp spot and the Grassy Knoll and all that stuff we all speculate about?

Do they think they will ever play to this large of crowds again? What’s the one thing they’d like to take away from the tour?

And, like everyone else, I would love to know how close Allison, Adam and Kris are to choosing their first singles and if they know when they’re expected to be released.

(And please, please don’t encourage Adam to continue to use the word “twat.” I don’t know if it means something different in British English than American English, but in the world I live in, it’s a vile word, just as bad as the c-word which means the same thing. Go for twit, or even twit and a half. But please no more twa… You know. I used to like Adam as a person, even if his music was not ma thang. But the tw– thing has REALLY turned me off. And, no, I do not wear pearls and I don’t care how many fuck bombs people drop. I just don’t like the swear words that refer to a particular part of the female anatomy in a derogatory way.)

  • Woobies

For Adam: You are working with alot of amazing producers, but is there 1 overall producer, responsible for pulling it all together?

  • 2old4this

For Kris — are you happy with the amount of input you have had on upcoming album? Also, why so secretative with album details?

  • AC

Dang, some of these questions that other people came up with are really good. I have nothing except these superficial questions:
Kris- Can you tell us more about the wings in the Elle photoshoot?
Adam- What are your real thoughts on that Michelin man costume for your album photo shoot?

  • wrigley

If you had to pick someone to be your partner in the Amazing Race, who would you pick and why?

  • Truthiness

For Adam, he’s said he’s on doctors orders for his voice, there have been reports that he has laryngitis, does he, or is he just sick overall? He was hit with something in Hamilton, does he see what he was hit with? And did he kick it instinctively, to get stuff out of the way? And was that his time doing soccer coming out? Maybe he should tell his dad about it.

  • lizardino

MJ — You have to be one of the least lazy people I can think of! Thank you for all your great work and for keeping all of us on track (we really are like herding cats, aren’t we?).

Since I’m a pet person, asking about pets is good. Do the idols have any pets or have they in the past? Would they like a pet and/or what kind?

I know that Matt tweeted that he was thinking about going on vacation after tour, so in that vein — if they could go anyplace they wanted for a vacation, where would it be?

I like the fact that so many people would like to ask Adam about his vocal range. We’ve had lots of discussion about it, and I would like to know about this as well.

  • Sherena

Second truthiness’ question– I want to know if he really has laryngitis (but the high notes were back for the last concert–yay)

  • girlygirl

    For Adam or Kris:

Have they started putting together a band together for their solo tours/albums. So either of them want to bring their friends they’ve worked with in the past into their new bands

How exhausted are they and what is the best way they have of trying to cope with their crazy schedules?

    For any of the idols:

How do they make singing the same set of songs every night on tour fresh. If they could replace one song in their set, what would it be — and what song would they replace it with?

If they could perform the current tour set of any of the other AI8 Idols, whose would they choose, and why?

  • Fianlly

    For any of them:
    1. Do you watch your own tour performances on YouTube? If so, how do they sound to you (different? on helium? etc.)?
    2. Is there any song from the other idols’ tour sets that you’d like to sing yourself someday?
    3. Do you workout a lot? What’s your menu?
    4. Who do you think would win if all the guys had an arm wrestling tournament?
    For Adam:
Will your tour performance videos be available on iTunes (like Kris’s “Bright Lights”)?

  • Truthiness

    What is your favorite musical?

I know this one. I’ll take ‘I know Adam,’ for 100, Alex. It’s Jesus Christ Superstar. He also likes Hair.

    For Adam:
From what you have said, your post Idol album does not sound like rock and yet you said that you positioned yourself on Idol as the rock guy to stand out as that niche was not filled that season. Would you say that your Idol run was handled like another role you played? Did you take an actor’s perspective to Idol rather than a musician’s or singer’s?

LOL. I love this question. Why not just have mj ask Adam if he’s a big poseur who poses a lot?

Kris- Can you tell us more about the wings in the Elle photoshoot?

I heard there was eyeliner and he was the one that wore glittery platform boots, though he said it might not make what is published. I would ask, is this true?

  • WhisperFair

For Kris: In the past, you most likely wrote songs when you felt inspired by something that effected you emotionally. Now, you are supposed to cough up a song at 2:00 pm on a Tuesday, while collaborating with someone you just met. How do you tap into your inner creativity in that situation?

For Adam: I have always been a fan of David Bowie and Queen, and your wonderful vocal and performance skills remind me a little of each of them. A strength they both had was the ability to craft thematic albums, where songs built upon one another and created a cohesive whole. Will you attempt that with your album? Is it a realistic goal in this 1 song at a time download world?

For Allison: What extra challenges (if any) do you believe you face because of your age? Have you talked with David Archuleta and/or Jordin Sparks about their experiences?

  • readon

A few more came to mind.

    For Sarver

In a recent interview, you spoke about learning new things about people and lifestyles. It seems that it is easy to fall in to the perception on a person baed on generalizations. What are you feelings about peoples perceptions of you being a a Texan and working on an oil rig. How do you feel about people automatically labeling you as country when you really closer to more current R&B.

    For Matt

I loved your studio version of “When you love a woman”. People are really conecting to your tour performances. What do you feel is the difference between how you performed on AI versus the studio and tour performances? The same question( to a lesser extent) for Lil Rounds.

    For Allison

You are 17, but people have often remarked that your are 17 going on 40. Do you agree with that perception and why?

    For Adam

Are you happy with the way things have turned out?

    For Danny

As other have posted, (I think). Is this what you expected?

  • leeaundra

Kris- Can you tell us more about the wings in the Elle photoshoot?

I heard there was eyeliner and he was the one that wore glittery platform boots, though he said it might not make what is published. I would ask, is this true?

MrJoeZee tweeted: http://twitpic.com/db1d3 – Guess who these were for? And nope, we didn’t end up using them . 2:34 PM Aug 9th from TwitPic

Those don’t look to be Adam sized boots, but mrjoezee says they weren’t used. Don’t know about the eyeliner, but I guess it’s worth asking. I don’t have any idea what they were going for in the photo shoot.

As for other questions – I like some of LisaE’s questions from the first page. I’ve either read or listened to too many interviews, because I can answer too many already (I have one of those minds that traps really useless information). I’ll think a short while and see if I can come up with something that hasn’t been mentioned.

  • Sherena

For Danny: When can we expect an announcement on that record deal, or are you still deciding between the two labels?

  • Truthiness

Yeah, that thing about them not being used, confused me as well, so that’s why I figure, why not ask? Especially because if it’s true, that would be intriguing to me. Odd, but intriguingly so. Though I would want more music questions answered, but Kris keeps things so close to the vest there, I figure good to ask some shallower questions he might actually answer. Plus it’s good to mix things up, I think.

  • whatever4444

    For Adam, Kris and Allison.
    - I want to know who’s single will come out first. If they have any duets on their album. For example: Adam with Lady Gaga or Allison with Kevin Rudolph.
    - If Allison has considered forming a band.
-I want to know more about that weird space picture of Adam. If you can also get more details about the Elle shoot that will be great.
-If you can find out why Adam and Allison are not following each other.
-I also want to know what Adam and Kris think of Kradison, Adison and Kradam.
-If Adam liked the dildo that they threw at him or if he rather fans will just stick to bras and panties. Also, if he would prefer fans didn’t throw lingerie during Slow Ride because Allison is on the stage with him or if he/they don’t mind.
-I also would like to know if they completely improvise Slow Ride or do they kind of plan what knew things they are going to do. Same goes for the Kradam dance in DSB.

For Megan. Is she going to pursue music after the tour. I get a feeling like she has given up and wants the tour to be over. I don’t want for her to give up. I want to know is she has talked to labels or what she is doing to continue with her career.

  • LaurelG

For Adam: does he have any natural artistic ability? I loved the sketch he did for the eye of Horus pendant.

And as a corollary, is he interested in designing a jewelry line?

  • leeaundra

Yeah, that thing about them not being used, confused me as well, so that’s why I figure, why not ask? Especially because if it’s true, that would be intriguing to me. Odd, but intriguingly so. Plus it’s good to mix things up, I think.

Anything “new” that Kris spills would be intriguing – he gets asked the same questions and repeats the same answers so often. He truncates his interview responses so much, I am sure some interviewers feel like they are “out of bounds” for follow up questions, when it’s really just Kris being Kris. I adore Kris, but he has to be prodded into elaborating on his answers. He’s more challenging to interview than Adam – he doesn’t offer information – you have to dig for it.

If he answers anything concrete about the Elle shoot, I would be pleasantly surprised. Wings, eyeliner, boots, whatever – tell us something new. You are right, he’s not going to spill anything about his album until he’s damned good and ready. I feel pretty confident that solo tour plans are really not even in the foreground of their thought right now – just the pressure to put out singles and albums that sell (and finish the Idol tour).

  • MaryK28

I’ve heard Adam’s voice sounding just a little frayed with the past several performances (guessing that’s why he’s been seeing the doctor). However, he still sounds good! He has previously mentioned that in the theater he learned how to sing through a cold. My question is: what do he and the other idols actually do to protect their voices and also be able to sing when they and their voices aren’t up to it (what remedies, meds, tricks of the trade, etc.)?

MJ, thanks so much! Love your blog and asking us to come up with some questions that we’d like answered. It does getting a bit wearing hearing the same questions from so many interviewers. Very intelligent and interesting questions you’ve gotten, so far, and ones to which I would also like the answers. Have fun at your interview!

  • Cate

MJ, hope you are now getting some sleep so you are rested and raring to go tomorrow. Everyone has posted some great questions — maybe you could pass some on to Jim C. if he has another interview coming up. Hope you get your tickets! and have a wonderful time.

  • Fianlly

(I’m sorry MJ and everyone for my triple post above. I was trying to edit my first ever post here. If there is a way to delete the first two now, could anyone please let me know?)

  • alxsavage

Well, I’m not good coming up with questions, plus, you guys have already thought of great ones, all I can say is, have fun MJ! Can’t wait to hear/read the details.

  • nightsky2

Long time reader of this amazing website, first time replying

Ask any idol – what song from another idol’s set they would choose to perform if they had to?

    Hope you have a blast

  • Truthiness

Oh I have one for Adam, Megan in a recent interview said that her pink outfit was chosen for her, did the tour wardrobe people choose that vest he wears at the end of the show, or was it his choice and if it was him, why? WHY? WHY?! For fawks sake, WHY?! Okay, maybe not with those last bits, but mj, feel free to add them for extra emphasis and flourish. And maybe to convey my utter burning hatred of the thing to him, for me.

  • http://twitter.com/southpaw2009 Southpaw2009

i think all the good questions are here already… enjoy the press hour, MJ! Tell all the idols we love them here in Asia!

  • ppwars

Allison: OFTEN you try to belt beyond what is humanly possible. It is painful to listen to. Your beautiful, mellifluous and unique rock voice has become endangered, often disappearing. As a more experienced artist would, will you take voice lessons, assert yourself over the engineers and band, and use your ear monitors to get the mix you need to perform at your best, saving your voice in the process?

  • OutlandoGirl

Did they really take that on-line IQ test..?

Oh. My. Lord. This was my BIGGEST laugh of the day. (And I actually laughed so much at an Alex Trugman tweet earlier today that I choked, so that has to tell you how hard I was laughing undercooked. Thank you!!)

  • OutlandoGirl

For Adam: He posted a pic on Twitter of some YSL boots he was obessed with – did he buy them?

Really. This is Adam we are talking about here. Of course he did.

  • OutlandoGirl

Who would you trust to save you in the event of a zombie apocalypse?

    Best Idol question ever.

  • leeaundra

I like to know “behind the scenes” stuff from Idol and the tour. Some of it they may answer some things they probably won’t (or can’t).

    IDOL:

    - How were the roommate assignments decided when the Top 13 moved into the mansion?

    - What songs did they really want to sing that they couldn’t get cleared or were already taken by another contestant (I know Kris had one in the top 36 he couldn’t do because it was already taken, but he’s never said which one – I’m sure the other had similar situations)?

    - How does song selection for the show work?
    – How long is the list they can pick from?
    – Are song choices first come/first served/draw straws (or what)?

This has been asked of Kris several times (A: WLL), What Kris performance was Adam’s favorite on Idol?

    - Instead of being given a “winner’s/coronation song” to sing after the Idol was announced – if they were told by the producers that they could sing any song they wanted that fit the occasion – what song would they choose (this is for any/all of the contestants)?

    - Are they paid as musical performers per AFTRA scale for the nights they perform on Idol?

    TOUR:

    - Has Kris been stepped on in his bunk on the bus (it is on the ground)?

This probably falls under the won’t/can’t answer questions, but what the hell. I can ask, doesn’t mean MJ will. lol:

    - Are the top ten paid per concert on a sliding scale based on where they placed/how many songs they perform on tour – or are all paid the same fee? (Yes, that’s nosy – but I know a lot of people who’d like to hear the answer.)

    - Does the tour really pay enough for a down-payment on a Los Angeles area home?

If anyone has the answers to these questions from former/current contestants, please share.

I actually laughed so much at an Alex Trugman tweet earlier today that I choked

I love Alex Wagner-Trugman and his tweets. Did you ever see the film of him and Jim Cantiello driving around L.A. to see if people recognized him? And his estimation of AI coronation songs. LOL

Love the IQ question. Sad to say, I have wondered that.

I also like the question about which song they would borrow from their fellow performers if they had to make a switch.

    Have fun tomorrow, MJ!

  • CaliforniaGirl

A few questions for Adam (or any of them):

    - If you could speak any language fluently what would it be?

    - Where in the world would you like to visit or revisit?

    - What gets/keeps you grounded? Do you meditate? Listen to music?

    - PJs or nekkid?

    - Have you ever had acupuncture?

    - Would you rather your new house be in the hills above the city or above the ocean?

    - What’s your take on past lives?

    - Favorite accessory?

    - Facials or massages?

Thanks MJ. Hope your interview opportunity comes!

I don’t know if this has been asked:

  • alison8701

You’re never ever ever ever ever ever everrrrr supposed to ask someone how much they make. Unless it’s like, your spouse or something, or you’re interested in a similar position. I know the “sliding scale” question is kind of different, but still.

I mean, I’m curious as well, but it’s a rude question.

I mean, I’m curious as well, but it’s a rude question.

I specifically did NOT ask how much they make. I asked if they all made the same amount or not. As for the down-payment – it’s a question relative to a huge price range of homes in L.A. There is nothing personal in what I am asking.

ETA: Not only are they questions not likely to get asked, they also likely can’t/won’t answer them.

ETAA: The AFTRA scale question can be answered if I want to wade through the AFTRA contract to find out…I am too lazy to do that.

I like it this way. I just wish I could come up with a good question for Anoop.

  • steve

I have 1 for anoop only chioce 1- Life time passes to any NC basketball games you want.If you dont take the passes you can never go. OR a record deal.

I think it was cool that mj was asking us to participate. And as per her post about it, she just wants to avoid asking all the stupid questions that have been asked and answered by this guys a million times, like that David Cook was parodying in his video. And really, the fans of these guys probably know more the minutia of their previous interviews, than she has time/energy to go over.

To me this is a form of research, and honestly I think it’s a great way for fans to get their questions asked. So again, I think this is really cool of mj to do this. And no, I’m not just sucking up so she’ll ask my (sneaky) question about the Bedazzled Vest of Ugliness (with optional wails at the end), I swears!

No, really, because I know she won’t ask it, or even get the chance to ask it, because I doubt Adam will be one of the interviewees.

Ryan asked if they all get paid the same, Adam, Kris, and Scott said I think so, Megan appeared to have a different answer, the rest were too hard to read. I didn’t hear anything about the number of songs factoring into it – but that would make the most sense to me. X amount per song? Doesn’t really answer my question. Oh, well – they seem to feel it’s generous. That’s what’s important.

  • aeiou

Question to all idols: Anyone aware that Bandzilla is overwhelming all your voices. Can they be asked to tone down a bit ?

question To Adam : Do you feel uncomfortably hot under your glittery leather tail coat for all 4 songs ? Is the billowing smoke on stage bad for your lungs and throat ?

  • Truthiness

I would like to know how any idol feels about people that suck up to MJ on her blog to get there question asked.

Well I highly doubt the sucking up would actually work. I really do think it’s a cool way for the fans to have a chance to ask questions we would like answered, or think realistically will be answered. Or that involve zombies. Especially the zombies part.

  • CamelliaSin

    For Adam

What will be the fate of the !JACKET!! after the tour?
Is he keeping it, putting it up for charity or will it be ending up next to DC’s pirates?

  • Lucia

    Adam Allison or Kris:

Will any of you come to Europe on your solo tour?

    Any of them:

What has been your most embarassing on tour so far?
    Your most memorable moment?
Who’s the most fun on the bus?
Will you miss each other after the tour is over?

    Adam:
Are you aware that you have fans in Switzerland? or in Europe in general?

  • dyg1

Thanks for this opportunity to post our questions for the idols, MJ. You have enough for a whole day interview ;-)

Hope you have the chance to interview Adam.

My question for Adam would be: Are you planning to accompany the CD with a video?

I have not read all the questions, so I don ´t know if this one has already been posted.

Enjoy the show and your time with the idols, MJ. Also, hope you found great seats.

Love MJ for having this blog, and the posters for sharing their thoughts here. However, my work is all behind because I spend too many hours around here. Hopefully, when the AI 2010 starts I will only check the news about Adam and my life will be back to almost normal.

    hugs to all from Spain.

  • DJ

Are any of them planning to collaberate with each other in the future?

What has been the rudest thing that’s happened to them on tour so far?

How has going on tour differed from their expectations? What was the most surprising thing? What are the best and worst aspects of going on a tour like this?

  • Hazehel

For Adam, choose one of each of the following that you like better or hate less (you are not allowed to say you like or hate both equally) -

    1) Freddie Mercury or David Bowie
    2) Scissors Sisters or Kings of Leon
    3) Chopin or Brahms
    4) 30 Rock or The Office
    5) Jon Stewart or Stephen Colbert
    6) Sarah Palin or Levi Johnston
    7) Matrix or Titanic
    8) South Park or The Simpsons
    9) John Galliano or Alexander McQueen
    10) Cheez-it or cheese nips
    11) Twinks or bears
    12) Bel Ami or Chi Chi LaRue

(OK, scratch the last two, but you can make up variations of the questions for all the other nine idols.)

  • DJ

What kind of music would Megan like to do in the future?

  • jga94

Hope this is too late…for Anoop…..

Do you have a definite goal set for yourself? Are you giving yourself a timeline to achieve that goal or do you think you can persevere and “pay your dues” like most other artists have?

    Your favorite movie line?

    Your favorite movie?

What was the most stupid thing you did to get a girl’s attention?

What was the most romantic thing you did for your girl?

Your mother once said that going into high school, you had your whole life planned in detail(where you asked your teacher if you could have chemistry by correspondence)…do you still have detailed plans now? What has changed?

  • SallyintheValley

We all know that Scott, Matt and Kris play the piano beautifully, and have seen guitar as well from Allison and Kris. I would like to know from the Idols who did NOT play an instrument on AI or tour just how many have taken musical instrument lessons and what they were.

  • MrsB

Wow this is quite the thread & eventually I will get through it all :) although I doubt I’ll change my opinion anyway!

MikeyB@7:51….Chaci@8:00….Hypnoticwhisper@8:01 & any others along these type of questions I “DITTO” cuz I really want you to have fun MJ!!

You work your buns off for your fans and you deserve to have fun, you’ve earned it big time!!!!!! :wub_tb:

  • Mtlfan

    For Kris:
Were Bright Light and ATTTID the songs he couldn’t do on the Idol show?
When does he plan starting touring on his own?

    For Allison:
Does she want to be the lead singer of a rock band?

  • LoveContinuum

    1. If you could have a 2-hour lunch with any one person in the world, who would it be? (Doesn’t have to be in the music industry.)

    2. What is your biggest regret in life?

    3. What, in terms of character, is your biggest shortcoming/weakness?

    4. Where do you see yourself 5 years from now?

    5. What makes you unique, both as a person and as a singer/performer?

  • emmuzka

I don’t know how this should be asked, but: Danny seems always so cheerful and happy. Isn’t that amount of happy really hard to maintain? (I re-watched his audition pimp piece yesterday and it was kind of scary how his words were like straight from a self-help book for organized grieving.)

For all: Was a certain look developed for you? How did it feel for your style nudged towards a star style? (This is because I learned that Megan doesn’t like at all her pink barbie look. And it’s no wonder, taking how she likes to meet fans with no makep up on and rollers in her head.)

  • pcaindawg

About the time the tour was starting, Adam’s mom said in an interview that she was going to look for a house for Adam while he was on the tour. Has she been doing that and, if so, has she found anything?

  • AquariusFIN

For Adam from a Finnish fan:

Adam has a lot of fans all over the world (check out: http://www.google.com/trends?q=adam lambert, kris allen, danny gokey&ctab=0&geo=all&date=mtd&sort=0 )

It would be nice to know how aware he is of the love there is for him in Europe and Asia and what he thinks about it.

For sure, with all the talent working with him on his CD, he will be a global star and all of us non-Americans are really looking forward to seeing him live on his tour.

  • summersnow

Question for Kris: You have mentioned that your album will be in pop-rock genre. However, I feel that you have a knack for singing in other genres as well (which you have shown during the competition), be it country, jazz, r&b, latina…and maybe even rap/hip hop. Do you think you would want to experiment and infuse some other sounds into your album instead of making a strictly pop-rock one? I really like your cover of “Somewhere over the rainbow” accompanied with just a ukelele cos it really brings out the beauty of your vocal, so I really hope you can have that style of songs in your album.

Question for Megan: I always feel that you are like a Natasha Bedingfield because of your vocal and quirky personality. Have you ever tried song-writing and if so, is Natasha someone you would like to emulate for your future music career?

  • Starryeyed

Long-time lurker here, lured out of hiding by the prospect of some new questions for the idols!

I’m UK-based so would love to hear Adam’s answers to the questions about the British influence on his set-list and some of his turns of phrase. I would also be interested to know this:
He is so eloquent when speaking to the press, and always has something meaningful and interesting to say. Assuming his career goes through the stratosphere (like there is any doubt of that!!), would he at some stage consider writing an autobiography? Any early thoughts on what he might call it?

  • LaurelG

About the time the tour was starting, Adam’s mom said in an interview that she was going to look for a house for Adam while he was on the tour. Has she been doing that and, if so, has she found anything?

Yes, and what is the address? :biggrin_wp:

  • http://www.wholisticbirthways.net austinmidwife

MJ, have an awesome time tonight!! I hope you get to meet all the performers. Your hard-core devotion to the show should pay off in this way. Thanks, too for soliciting our questions.

Other posters have covered just about everything I would ask except one question for Adam (of course):

I noticed a few shows back that some lyrical improvisation has been taking place in “Fame”. Is this because you are finding that your personal Fame is “insane” and causing you some “pain”?

    Just curious.

  • sr4mjc

For Adam, Allison and Kris: Do you have financial advisors?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

    Thanks for the questions guys.

And for those couple of posters who think I should think up my own questions:

As others have said above, this is a brainstorming session, and I will be thinking up questions, but with a little help from my friends. KWIM? This was actually more work than if I had just decided to work on my own…it takes awhile to get through 7 pages of questions.

I was kidding about the lazy part. I work pretty hard on the blog.

  • Margie

I work pretty hard on the blog.

We know you do MJ and we do appreciate it. I honestly don’t know how you do it all. I can barely read all the comments; I don’t know how I would find time to mod them too much less create all the original posts etc.

Go ahead and set yourself up an “MJ Appreciation Thread” and watch it come to life!

  • lamslova

“As others have said above, this is a brainstorming session, and I will be thinking up questions, but with a little help from my friends. KWIM?”

Absolutely! When my students brainstorm together and I listen in, I get tons of “teaching moments” from it. I know after youve read through these 7 pages Im sure you were able to formulate a lot of your own questions.

“This was actually more work than if I had just decided to work on my own’ ¦it takes awhile to get through 7 pages of questions.”

and we appreciate everything you do here. I am thrilled that you have provided your readers a place to gather and discuss the world of AI. Im sure after I have posted this there will be two more pages expressing thanks to you and all you do. Have a blast tonight MJ!

  • http://myidol.americanidol.com/kiss-and-tell Joy

    UMMMMMMMMm

Ask Adam about those gold YSL shoes he is obsessed with: Did he buy them?

About the album cover photo all over the net: WTF what that?!?!

Why he was the only one in the disco week number not wearing sunglasses. I don’t even remember that was the case but seing others ask about this, I got curious :P

OOO and ask him if he hear about the online debate about what he was wearing on his hand during the GMA performance and ask him to set the record straight! haha

  • Q3

MJ — thanks for the opportunity to make suggestions. Two more question ideas:

    1. Michael, Megan and/or Allison – if you could pick one more song to perform on the tour, what would it be?

    2. Adam (the answer that his astrology-focused fans are dying to get):
    What is your birth time?

  • twininstin

    Hi all!
I’ve been lurking in the shadows like a criminal for months, but couldn’t pass up the small small chance that a question of mine might get asked to Adam Lambert (I know it’s unlikely! I can’t imagine how MJ will even make it through all these posts!).
I have a couple of questions, intended for Adam, but really applicable to all the idols:

    1) Much has been made, Adam, of how different you look from when you were a kid, and you’ve talked a lot about what it took in your early twenties to grow comfortable in your own skin. Was there a big break in your life and your identity to get here? Do you feel like you’re a different person from who you were before, or is it very much the same you–just everyone around you sees you differently? (Yes, this is relevant to the other Idols, with a slight twist: Idol is very much a show about transforming someone’s life–how do they feel like their lives/identities now connect to their lives/identities pre-idol?)

    2) Do you think that the image that the public/your fans have of you is an accurate image (of course, it’s exaggerated, and impersonal, but does it feel related to you)? Depending on the answer, follow up by asking how that feels, being known but not known by so many people.

Also: I really liked some of the questions LisaE (?) posted early on in thread, plus I heartily second someone’s (SUNN’s?) question about the Idol’s opinions on Autotune.

Thanks so much for running this site, MJ. It’s a total guilty pleasure.
(PS–it’s my first time every posting to a blog–sorry it’s so wordy!)

  • luvadamlambert

    MJ YOU ARE AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

idk I think u should do a quick q&a kind of thing like there was one done during Idol and the question was tatoos or piercingings. That made me LOL becuz danny was like glasses and Adam said both!!!!

could u ask Adam how he feels about how the album shoot went?????? I don’t think he’s allowed to talk about the picture since it was deleted everywhere.

ask Adam to reveal something NEW about his album!!!!!!!!!! Anything!!!!!!

  • Q3

MJ – one more Adam question:

Photos from a Robert Sebree fashion photography session were released online today. Can you tell us what these photos will be used for?

  • LaTasha

Adam: Do you like baseball? ;)

  • threescompany

Need company? I’m going alone, lol.

No, here’s my Q for Kris – do you follow professional sports and if so, which team(s)?

  • Margie

It looks like some of the Brit song questions have already been answered:

    http://www.thelambrits.co.uk/newhomepage/LambritMeetsAdam.html

    The relevant bit:

Me: Can I ask you a question?

Adam: Sure [this is where he stared very intensely and intently '“ maybe he was expecting something very serious. Those eyes were yet another shock. Surrounded by the blue and black eyeliner, they appear vivid but almost transparent, like vibrant aquamarine or topaz gemstones].

Me: All the 5 songs you sing on tour, they’re all by British artists.

Adam: [breaking into a big enthusiastic smile] Yeah!

    Me: Was that intentional?

Adam: [moving in conspiratorially, as if he didn’t want Americans to hear, looking even more intently at me Well, British music is the best in the world, isn’t it!
Me: So will we see you in England soon?

Adam: I hope so! I hope it’ll be early next year.

    Me: Is Simon arranging that?

Adam: Simon Fuller is. Simon Cowell isn’t connected with that side of things.

  • glamatheart

For Adam: Is he aware of the extent that some fans (and detractors) latch on to his EVERY move/word/tweet/photo/expression/performance/hairstyle (you name it) and, if so, what is his reaction to this. Does it make him want to be a little more guarded in the future OR just the opposite. We know he likes to start discussion (controversy) but is it ever painful to be so scrutinized.

Thank you so much MJ for letting us participate in this. You rock and I hope you have a great time tonight!

  • luvadamlambert

MJ what idols are u going to meet? It’s only 5 idols right? Please say Adam! even if u have to lie:p

  • cookcricket

Awww, how did I miss this? Have a wonderful time mj! I’m very excited for you! I can’t wait to see the results!

A question for all of them, just in case. :) Can you think of any kind of experience that could top what is happening in your life right now? If so what?

  • Anastasia72071

    Question for any/all of them:

Everyone knows how Douglas Adams would answer, but what do YOU think is the answer to life, the universe, and everything?

    :cool2_tb: :lol_tb:

  • Anastasia72071

    LisaE
    30 seconds, I’m going to say a word, you say the first thing that comes to mind: {snip}

    That’s awesome, I LOVE it!!!

  • abbey260

ABC’s Nightline has a series they periodically do talking to recording artists. They ask them their top 10 musical influences. The answers have always been really interesting and revealing. You could shorten it from 10 to 5 or even 3 and include what they are playing on their iPods currently.

  • wand3rful

I’m interested in the Elle Photo shoot . And when the issue will hit stands.

Danny has talked about his love of Latin music, why didn’t we see any of that influence in his AI songs and performances? Especially in the wide open categories like Top Download Night or TYYWB or Top 3.

I would like to ask Allison is she’s working w. a vocal coach …to fix her diction (as she has the tendency to eat her words). But not sure how to ask in a non insulting way.

Do Matt and Anoop have any interest in acting or hosting? or even producing?

Anoop….did you ever get Kayla’s number? From SYTYCD (he had tweeted about his admiration)

Adam..if you could pick any opening act for your next solo tour, who would it be?

Kris mentioned Man in the Mirror was a last minute replacement because another contestant selected his first choice. Which song was that?

    Kris….Jennifer Aniston or Angelina Jolie

To all the guys, is there a city you wish would have been added to the tour lineup?

Kris has talked about his touchy feely female fans…any crazy male fan stories? :) The boys do love kris.

Adam…answer once and for all…are you on top or bottom?

  • SethDubbs

    To the top 10 Idols:

    1) What is the best thing that ever happened to you guys thus far on the summer tour?

    2) What is the one question that you would ask a rubber chicken? As in never want to hear being asked ever again?

    For Adam and Kris:

If you ever have a chance to do a duet with someone from the American Idol alumni, who will you choose and why?

    Exclusively for Adam:

The Globerts have sent you a gift last Friday when you guys performed in Canada. Have you received it? (My bad if this question sounded too trivial)

  • http://www.myspace.com/rjveritas MrRJ

    To Kris/Adam/ Allison

Are there any plans to guest on each other albums?

  • http://mjsbigblog.com/voronas-ontario-american-idol-tour-recap.htm/feed/ vorona

    To the top 10 Idols:

    2) What is the one question that you would ask a rubber chicken? As in never want to hear being asked ever again?

That’s the winner for me. :thumbup_tb:

  • JIMDOGSILKIES

May be too late to post this but what the heck!
    To any of them:
If you were a judge (or music review critic), how would you critique or sum up your performances during your Idol run (or on the tour)?

    Or:

What is the best advice you’ve been given, and what is the best advice you’ve given to others?
Conversely, what is the worst advice you’ve been given, and wht is the wost advice you’ve ever given to someone?

    Have fun!
