Since people don’t normally buy a lot of cds from either Itunes or Amazon, what can the chart tell us?  What does it tell us about younger acts like B.O.B., One Direction, and others, who are in the top on the Billboard top 200, but not in the top 20 on Amazon?

  • Anonymous

I know that Amazon have a small share of the market, but by observing Idol sales, my opinion is that their chart is usually reasonably in tune with the overall sales, for Idols.
By reasonably in tune I mean a top 10 may be top 20+ in sales, a top 20 top 40, but not top 200. It is important to look at how long the album stays at a level though.
Imo, Walmart charts are meaningless, and iTunes not as useful.
    JMHO.

    lol you are so funny.

Wait until the song goes for Radio adds at the end of the month all of this is premature but if it makes you feel better post the numbers. We should do that side by side for the other songs Idols have released. That might be interesting.

As a huge supporter of Adam’s I am surprised by your vigorous support for him and his music. It is awe inspiring.

lol Did anybody say her success was undeserved? I love the song. LOVE the big gay twist at the end of her video. The facts remain the same however that Bieber tweeted about her before she started selling in the US. Just saying it is a fact.

I love Trespassing. I think it will sell and I am confident it will do extremely well. It wouldn’t matter how much it sells though for some people let’s get real as Adam would say some people just throw more shade than a cloudy day. lol

I am with you Tess. I think good album sales and critical aclaim. I am betting he will get a grammy nomination as well.

Right now NCOE isn’t getting enough radio play to do much to help the album. I don’t really understand the RCA strategy of waiting two weeks for the official adds date. But RCA are weird this second album era.
I think Adam should be proud of the good reviews. Unfortunately reviews -good or bad- don’t have much to do with music sales. ;!

I think we will have to wait until this week after the Idol performance and Clear Channel plays and concerts and see how NCEO and trespassing are doing.

For those of you earlier, who were saying that NCOE isn’t doing all
that well internationally, it’s because it wasn’t released to radio at
the same time, to everywhere internationally at the same time.

Here’s a posting from Australia, saying that even though it was
released for sale a couple of weeks ago, it’s just now being serviced to
    radio..

I said that there was no indication that NCOE was doing well, and there wasn’t, not it was doing badly. If the reason for the low iTtune chart positions is that RCA released the song for sales before it was sent to radio everywhere, then it is a good explanation. It is the strange way of doing things, but never mind this.
As for Trespassing, it is a very good that it is #1 on iTunes Finland.

Why is there so much concern for a song that hasn’t even officially gone for adds yet?  I don’t get it.

Shouldn’t folks be concerned about the songs that have already gone for adds …  in fact weeks ago in some cases … but are just treading water?  Seems to me the “concern” is misplaced.

I know that none of these online sales sites provide a huge percentage of anybody’s sales, but I view them rather like a political poll where from a small sample a general trend is extrapolated.  Now real pollsters are very careful to have unbiased samples and by there nature a sales site is not that.  For example, I have heard that Amazon’s clientele is older and better educated than the general population.  Also selling price influences position on site to a degree hence Adam is #1 on B&N.  Still all in all I think that these sites can be used to assess general popularity and if one looks at others in high placement: Adele, Carrie Underwood, Jack White, Lionel Richie it validates this argument.
