Is today the official add date for “You Are”, or is it next week? I know today is the official add date for “Trespassing”

You Are got 7 spins on Christian AC radio over this just-ended reporting period (1 spin from 7 different stations)

Trespassing (which has 1 add so far today, from a Top 40 station in Canada), now has 11 total adds (6 HAC, 3 Canada Top 40 & 2 Canada HAC). It should get an additional auto add from the Canada HAC station in Montreal (16 spins in last reporting period), but that will be it in terms of auto adds, so hopefully it will get some manual ones today & tomorrow.

This is the monitored spin breakdown for Trespassing this just-completed reporting period:

    Canada HAC – 57
    Canada Top 40 – 71
    Canada Main AC – 3
    US HAC – 42
    US Top 40 – 2

TOML was not promoted as a single beyond Idol, there was no video as there was for Home, and Home is still getting promoted, where TOML  wasn’t. In fact, Light On was released in Sept 2008, *(which also went platinum) and a video was made for it shortly afterwards.  If they are still promoting Home as a single, and the album is being released next month, it is probably unlikely that another single will be released before that.

Karen C, yes, unlikely – when September closed and there was still no word of a single from Phillip’s album, it looked very much like his Label was planning to double dip off of the Coronary until November…but they can’t expect to ride the same song for a couple more months after that, can they?

It’s still possible to release a single before the album, but there’s not a lot of time left for it to build…maybe five or six weeks.  I would expect a new single before the Holiday Radio Freeze, or perhaps concurrent w/the album drop – even though that is usually not how it works, sometimes it has been done that way. (I think)

I would also expect his fans are impatient to hear what his own sound will be, and have some original music. Me, I’m just curious.

I’m curious too, but I did really like his original song that he did a couple of months ago.

Even if they do release another song before the album, I just feel that Home is continuing to sell because of the video and other promotion it has had since the tour.

It’s going to be very weird if P2 doesn’t get a new single to support his album. Most people who like Home will have bought it so I’m not sure what would get them interested in an album. He’ll end up with a first week of 50K unless some new music gets folks intrigued.

Eh, Interscope was always going to ride Home to its highest possible peak on its target radio formats. The move to real-song-real-genre coronation singles is probably related to wanting to treat them as real lead singles.

If the song is still rising on CHR and AAA in mid-November, and if P2 hasn’t yet performed it on the big night-time talk shows, it could be used for the album launch. Otherwise, I’d expect a new single right around the time of the album drop, which means it’ll be great for TV appearances but not initially provide much radio support.

The “everybody already bought the single” problem is epidemic these days… I’m not gonna blame P2 if he has a comparatively low open on that basis. The key for long-term artist development will be to get a second radio hit that gives the album legs. (And that’ll be true even if P2 turns out to have a million OMG-P2-Stans-For-Life on tap for his album opening week.)
