Mucho gracias, Eileen99, for this update.

CU – blowing everyone away! Snowflake doing well. Me thinks Lauren might be getting run over by the “we hate females on country radio” bus.

Thank you for posting those, DoesMonaKnow! I was trying to bring them over but I have such issues with formatting and end up having to redo the list 3 times when I try to c/p :|

For you chart gurus out there — can someone explain again the numbers on the listings? I thought I knew what all the placings per line were but then looking at the TobyMac numbers (in 8th this week on BB200) and the last number listed on the line is 66,912. I thought that was where total album sales went? If so, how can that be right when that album sold 68K+ last week? Maybe I have all the numbers confused, idk.

  • elliegrll

Nvm. I thought you were referring to a new release.

TobyMac is a Christian act and for some reason Soundscan and Billboard have never explained, the total Soundscan sales for acts that sell at retail stores that report to Christian Soundscan don’t include the sales reported to Christian Soundscan. The reason this is so illogical is each weekly total for a Christian act DOES include sales that are reported to Christian Soundscan. It makes no sense that the total sales wouldn’t include the Christian Soundscan number but it’s been that way for many years. If you read Brian’s sales reports at Idol Chatter it was pointed out to him this was a problem in reporting Mandisa’s sales and he started reporting her total sales by adding her weekly sales.

As far as what the columns on the album sales chart represent they are:

    Weeks on the chart
    Chart position 2 weeks ago
    Chart position 1 week ago
    Chart position this week
    Name of artist
    Name of album
    Sales this week
    Percent change from last week
    Sales last week
    Total Soundscan sales

  • http://twitter.com/doesmonaknow DoesMonaKnow

For some reason, the totals for Christan outlets/bookstores are counted in the weekly total but not the cumulative one when these particular numbers leak. This really affects the running totals of Christian artists like tobyMac or Mandisa because a big percentage of their albums are sold at Christian stores. The last number, the total (66,192 in this case) only reflects his sales at non-Christian outlets (music stores, iTunes, Amazon, etc.). It makes no sense but that’s just how it is.

Caro3278sweet: CU – blowing everyone away! Snowflake doing well. Me thinks Lauren might be getting run over by the “we hate females on country radio” bus.

Yeah, Carrie had a nice week which like I said earlier this week was helped by there being a gap between Blown Away and the song ahead of it, which gave BA some room to grow. The song in question is Dustin Lynch’s Cowboys & Angels which had a really strong week itself as it prepares to hit the t5 this coming week.

CaseyJ’s COAS had its best MB AI gain in a while without an assist from countdown spins. Hopefully that’ll translate at Billboard too. That should help COAS pass Eden’s Edge at Billboard. Maybe not Randy Houser though who had a comparably strong week as far as AI gains.

Lauren’s 18 Inches actually didn’t have a bad week as far as MB AI gains. The problem was a bunch of heavyweight singles (Kenny Chesney’s new one, a new Thomas Rhett single that seems destined to be a big hit), and Dial Global bumping up Rodney Atkins in a major way that won’t appear on Billboard. The good news is 18 Inches was able to hold onto its t40 spot this week.

There’ll be 1 recurrent next week (Zac Brown Band) so 18 Inches can afford to be passed by Kacey Musgraves’s Merry Go Round and still hold onto its t40 spot. But, if Eli Young Band also passes this week then 18 Inches will lose its MB t40 spot and the countdown spins, which would be a bummer. The other hope in that case is trying to pass Maggie Rose, whom Lauren gained on this week. I think that’ll be tough in 1 week. I also think there’s a possibility Gary Allan’s new single will get a Clear Channel debut. If that happens then Lauren’ll need to hold off Eli Young Band and pass Maggie Rose at MB to hang onto her t40 spot and I don’t see that happening.

The big good news for CaseyJ and Lauren is a couple of songs that had been hanging on by their fingernails for weeks finally lost their MB bullets: Big & Rich and Lady A. Keith Urban also lost his bullet so that means 4 MB recurrents (possibly 5 if Brantley Gilbert continues to struggle for 2 weeks which I don’t think is likely). That’ll move COAS into the MB t25 and bring 18 Inches back into the t40 if 18 Inches loses it spots there and doesn’t collapse due to the loss of countdown spins.

EDIT: DoesMonaKnow & I posted at the same time about TobyMac and Mandisa!

Me thinks Lauren needs to have a decent add day tomorrow.  Hopefully her label will not forget to promote her while they are promoting Kacey.  An interesting thing about Kacey 1.0 out of her 3.5 AI is from 2 stations in Texas which is really helping to push her up the chart. Nothing like home town love.
I am thinking there are too many new female artist at that part of the chart
for radio from Maggie on back, Kaleigh and Katie are going no where Kacey is going forward and Maggie and Lauren might fight for a spot to keep going forward. That would maKe 4 new female artist when you add in Kristen Kelly and get Jana off the chart which I keep thinking should be soon but she has announced that she will be releasing her next single (Whisky) in Nov. so she’ll be back.Should be intesting.
