Haley has stated Oh My! is a very likely candidate for a second single at Lollapalooza. She has also learned the rap portion so this should solve any issues with promoting the song without B.O.B

Below is a link of Oh My! ‘s live debut at Lolla:

in the MTV article about her stint at Lollapalooza it says that she hopes “Oh My” will be the 2nd single. And she says the same thing on stage in this video. That sounds like nothing is confirmed yet.

Sorry awkward phrasing. I have adjusted :)

Aha! Reinhart’s figured out the subtle way of pressuring the label for what she wants… throw it out there as “I hope,” and let fan enthusiasm make the case for it.

In this case, I hope so too.

  • http://twitter.com/Miztig Miz

That is the type of MV I usually like. I think Phillip’s is very well done and fits the song.

You have to love the GAC top 20 Buckey’s song not even on top 50 country chart, Kelly’s countrified recurrent and Scotty’s badly struggling WTT.  They might as well call it the American Idol Stan countdown.

(And yes I will be voting for 18 Inches once it appears )

I love Haley but I just don’t think she is going anywhere anytime soon.

She has a shot just like all of them. She needs a good, higher profile touring mate in her genre totally unrelated to Idol to hopefully expand her fan base.
Is her fall tour confirmed yet? Anyone know? Hopefully soon.
And she she needs to lay off the rapping….just no.

  • Anonymous

The rapping is a good idea, since it shows that she has a personality, it opens her up to more people, and it was the lead headline in a few of the publications that wrote about her Lollapallooza appearance. She does it well, and it’s a great way to get noticed, which is something that she and everybody else needs.

  • justmefornow

To each his/her own on the rapping. I didn’t think it worked. Whatever.
But I do agree she has to show her personality more, she seems kinda awkward relating to the audience. That however should resolve itself with more live shows and touring.

  • Anonymous

Yeah I didn’t think Haley did a very good job on the rapping. She should stick to singing.

She says she is going out on tour in the fall, but I haven’t heard anything about whether it will be a solo tour (which likely would mean small venues) or as an opener for some bigger name, or a combination of the two

Looking at MB country this morning:

Carrie’s Blown Away has had a big week. It sits at #22 now and will move up to #21 when recurrents are removed this afternoon. The MB AI gain of around 5.5 million since last Sunday points to the possibility of BA passing Lee Brice and Rascal Flatts at Billboard as well to also move up to #21 there. But, I still think a good portion of that MB AI gain is from airplay that won’t show up at Billboard, like Dial Global airplay. That being said, a 3 millionish AI gain at Billboard would probably be enough for BA to pass Rascal Flatts’s Come Wake Me Up.

CaseyJ’s COAS will probably make MB t30 in just its 7th week on the chart (unless the afternoon update swings things back Eden’s Edge’s way). That means countdown spins phased in over the next 2 weeks. It’s a little tightly bunched up in that section of the chart with Eden’s Edge (which has been struggling) and Kip Moore (who didn’t have a great week), plus Eric Church is approaching. With only 1 MB recurrent scheduled ahead of COAS next week there’s definitely a risk of COAS getting pushed out of the t30 for a week. But honestly, if a song from a non-established act is pushing t30 in just 7 weeks that’s a good sign it’s going to weather countdown spin instability just fine. Radio likes this song. A LOT.

At Billboard COAS will probably move up 2 spots to #35 though the week hasn’t been amazing for AI gains. COAS is definitely doing better on the points-based MB panel (which is more heavily influenced by spins) than the AI-based BB panel. At BB you see Kip Moore and Eric Church ahead of CaseyJ despite fewer spins. So, COAS is still working its way into play at better times during the day. But, it’s still cutting through the chart fast enough that it’s clear radio’s behind the song.

I think Scotty’s WTT has had three days in a row of double digit spin losses and daily AI losses of over 100k at MB. It’s still going to make MB t40 this week (#39) because of 3 recurrents this afternoon (Eli Young Band, Toby Keith’s Beers Ago, Phil Vassar). There is only one thing that’s preventing me from saying I think the song is done: I thought I saw a tweet from Blair Garner that he’s interviewing Scotty. So, with countdown spins coming next week, I wonder if there’s going to be a last ditch effort to rescue the song by using syndicated play from After Midnite plus countdown spins. The 1st indication of whether the label will rescue the song will be tomorrow’s adds. If WTT goes a 3rd straight week without any adds, then it probably is done. At Billboard WTT probably has enough of a cushion not to get passed despite likely losing AIs. It’ll likely move up to #38.

Lauren’s 18 Inches has gained a little under 200k MB AIs since charting on Tuesday. It will move up to to #43 MB this afternoon when 3 recurrents are removed. Decent week so far. At Billboard I’m not sure it will move up from #48 but 18 Inches could pass Katie Armiger’s song. It could also get passed by Brantley Gilbert’s song (which will probably pass on MB this coming week, and on BB if Brantley hasn’t already passed). Decent week, needs to keep it going and put itself into the position to move into the t40 over the next few weeks. Rodney Atkins and Maggie Rose are attainable targets to pass in the next 2 weeks.

Scotty probably starts college soon, right? I know every school’s system is different (quarter, semester, etc) but when I was in college, school started in mid-August. So will he be able to do much promo in the next couple months? That could weigh into whether they try to keep pushing WTT.

  • Anonymous

He said he is doing College Monday-Wednesday(I think), and the rest of the days will be set aside for his music career.

  • Larc

Scotty’s freshman orientation has already taken place.  The first day of fall semester classes at NCSU will be Thursday, August 16.

There is an announcement at Scotty’s site that states:

    Official Scotty
    New Music Update
    Coming Soon!

This would be a little early for his Christmas album, so maybe it’s about a new single.

Mediabase updated for the afternoon, though All Access hasn’t. At MB country, Carrie’s Blown Away is up to #21 and CaseyJ’s COAS is officially #30.

One thing I forgot to mention is Jana Kramer’s Why Ya Wanna made #10 MB (will probably get there at BB too). There are 2 non-established female acts who’ve made t10 country since Kellie Pickler’s Best Days Of Your Life in 2009: Sunny Sweeney (whose next single didn’t make t40) and now Jana. It’ll be interesting seeing whether she’s able to follow up her t10 single with a hit. There was a pretty big push to get Why Ya Wanna into the t10 and Jana’s started to hint at a new single so I think WYW is likely to take a nosedive this week. If Jana’s releasing a new single, I’d guess they’ll do it quickly to take advantage of the moment.

Too, since I’ve been harping on the 3/4 time signature thing, I’m interested to see if WYW peaking gives Lauren’s 18 Inches some more space to move. I’d forgotten though that Rascal Flatts’ Come Wake Me Up is also 3/4 time. Still, maybe WYW peaking will help 18 Inches a little.

Jana has strongly hinted as I am sure you know that Whiskey will be her next song.  I find the lyrics of that song somewhat silly in parts but the melody is Ok. I have grown to like her sound even though her voice is not particually strong.

Yeah, seems like it’s between I Hope It Rains and Whiskey. Between those 2 I’d favor Whiskey. I Hope It Rains annoys me, but I kind of like Whiskey. I actually thought they’d go with I Hope It Rains because it’s uptempo.

All Access updated. There were 3 recurrents as predicted so WTT did move up to #39. If it doesn’t rebullet on the next 2 official MB charts it’ll go recurrent 2 Sundays from now.

18 Inches moved up to #43.

Windmills, do you think Scotty’s label will and should release another single from CAD if WTT is done? Thanks :)

Gadfly: Windmills, do you think Scotty’s label will and should release another single from CAD if WTT is done? Thanks :)

If WTT is done (it has picked up an add this week with about a third of the panel reporting so it may not be), then I don’t think there’s much point to releasing a new single from Clear As Day. When you look at Scotty’s sagging momentum at country radio, IMO it’s clear country radio doesn’t believe there’s a breakthrough hit on Scotty’s debut. I believe new head Mike Dungan isn’t going to want to waste resources on another single off CAD that probably won’t go very far anyway. Instead he’ll will want to move on to trying to break Scotty through with new music that was recorded under his (Mike Dungan’s) watch.

There’s also the timing issue. At this point any new single wouldn’t be out until late August at the earliest. Any CAD single at this point will not be a fast mover and if you want a solid peak, you’re committing at least the next 5 months to the song if not more. That takes you to the end of January 2013 and includes the 2 weeks of holiday slowdown. If the single doesn’t last that long, then that doesn’t bode well for a high peak considering the single probably won’t be moving fast.

I’ve always believed the target date for a new Scotty lead single was October/early November. WTT was probably supposed to hang around as long as possible to minimize the gap. The Christmas EP/album will allow for some visibility and give Scotty fans something to buy during the holiday season.

However, has Scotty actually started recording his new album? I know he’s writing on the road and listening to demos so they’re in the gathering process. I feel like they’d have to be close to hitting the studio if I’m right about the single being out in a couple months. If not and they’re not planning a lead single release until February, then I guess I’ll leave  myself an out that another CAD single is possible. I don’t think it’s likely though.
