DB987: Jana has strongly hinted as I am sure you know that Whiskey will be her
next song.  I find the lyrics of that song somewhat silly in parts but
the melody is Ok. I have grown to like her sound even though her voice
    is not particually strong.

Yeah, seems like it’s between I Hope It Rains and Whiskey. Between those 2 I’d favor Whiskey. I Hope It Rains annoys me, but I kind of like Whiskey. I actually thought they’d go with I Hope It Rains because it’s uptempo.

All Access updated. There were 3 recurrents as predicted so WTT did move up to #39. If it doesn’t rebullet on the next 2 official MB charts it’ll go recurrent 2 Sundays from now.

18 Inches moved up to #43.

Windmills, do you think Scotty’s label will and should release another single from CAD if WTT is done? Thanks :)

Gadfly: Windmills, do you think Scotty’s label will and should release another single from CAD if WTT is done? Thanks :)

If WTT is done (it has picked up an add this week with about a third of the panel reporting so it may not be), then I don’t think there’s much point to releasing a new single from Clear As Day. When you look at Scotty’s sagging momentum at country radio, IMO it’s clear country radio doesn’t believe there’s a breakthrough hit on Scotty’s debut. I believe new head Mike Dungan isn’t going to want to waste resources on another single off CAD that probably won’t go very far anyway. Instead he’ll will want to move on to trying to break Scotty through with new music that was recorded under his (Mike Dungan’s) watch.

There’s also the timing issue. At this point any new single wouldn’t be out until late August at the earliest. Any CAD single at this point will not be a fast mover and if you want a solid peak, you’re committing at least the next 5 months to the song if not more. That takes you to the end of January 2013 and includes the 2 weeks of holiday slowdown. If the single doesn’t last that long, then that doesn’t bode well for a high peak considering the single probably won’t be moving fast.

I’ve always believed the target date for a new Scotty lead single was October/early November. WTT was probably supposed to hang around as long as possible to minimize the gap. The Christmas EP/album will allow for some visibility and give Scotty fans something to buy during the holiday season.

However, has Scotty actually started recording his new album? I know he’s writing on the road and listening to demos so they’re in the gathering process. I feel like they’d have to be close to hitting the studio if I’m right about the single being out in a couple months. If not and they’re not planning a lead single release until February, then I guess I’ll leave  myself an out that another CAD single is possible. I don’t think it’s likely though.
