     Well, that’s that for Adam and Kris. Crashed and burned on radio, CD’s for both are in the tank saleswise. Well, nothing to do but take a shot of whiskey, and wait for the mailman to begin delivery of those reality checks promised a few weeks ago.  Feels like it’s gonna be a good day *drink*

    Congrats to CJ but there is still a long way to go. :)

    Oh, yes, I totally agree with this statement. I might be a cray cray fan but I have not yet fallen into delusional thinking. ;-)

    This is a nice thought and one often repeated

    Well, here we must disagree. Because I do think CaseyJ’s strategy has been quite different:

    1) peeps around here say that it didn’t appear that CJ wanted to win AI. They are right. He didn’t. He has said as much several times in interviews. 3rd place was the sweet spot his brother said – it’s where CJ wanted to go out. Most of the publicity, a good chance at a label contract, but without the baggage and expectations of the winner. 

    2) CJ took his time signing with a label. He has said that he laid out what he wanted to do and the kind of music he wanted to make to Gary Overton and only when Overton said – great, let’s do it, did CJ sign. Now, who knows. Maybe that’s just BS that “every idol” says- but the fact that the label gave CJ a year to write songs, and paid for quite a few high end songwriters, tells me they had bought into CJ’s vision enough to let go of any possible AI bubble success and instead, plunked down some dough to give him a chance to put together the album he wanted. They also let him co-produce his album – something fairly rare in AI land especially with a first album.

    3) to me, CJ is on his “sophomore” album. His first week sales of 14K are pretty much in the ballpark of a new singer with an almost t20 song. So that shows that whatever AI base he had has largely moved on or have become fans who actually like the music he is putting out. 

    4) CJ and mgmt have been very focused on building relationships with radio. In one interview about a year ago, CJ said he’d realized that this radio thing was all about making connections, making friends, building relationships. He expressed some surprise at this – he said – wow, it’s just like how I built my relationships with bar owners, club promoters, etc in Texas. As I said in my previous post, this is paying off IMHO. 

    I’d say the only other AI alum who I see following a similar path is James Durbin. This post isn’t a diss on any other alum. It’s just going to be interesting to see how this plays out because i do think it’s a very different strategy from the norm. Depending on the success of CJ or non-success, it might be something other alums coming off the show might think about doing.
