In other news, Michael Jackson has moved 10.6M albums and 16.3M singles since he died two years ago (sometimes, I’m stunned at how fast time flies). 33% of the albums he has sold in the SS era (since 1991) have been since he died. Read the details at Billboard.

In still other news, Prince plans on never recording anything ever again (well, he says he won’t record until piracy is brought under control, but it’s basically the same thing). Billboard.

^^ the ac stations that are playing TLG are big NYC and DC(? Not sure, I know it’s a big city) area stations that reach a lot of people. Hence the big ai for relatively few spins

TLG has been added by only two AC stations, but they’re both big ones: WWFS in New York and WCFS in Chicago. Getting played on stations in the #1 and #3 markets can raise AI fast.

  • girlygirl

Despite moving up the VH1 countdown chart and getting a few additional spins on the radio, TLG still isn’t showing up on the iTunes Top 1000 chart. I think this is a clear sign that RCA really needs to move onto single #2 ASAP

I’m looking at the mediabase report on All Access right now. Looking at the audience #, he’s higher than Rodney and Martina. Is it possible he makes top 20 on Billboard this week? I know the monitored stations on each are slightly different. Just thinking out loud. Hoping for a top 20 for Scotty. :D

VH1 has revamped the way you vote for videos.

“Not only can you now cast up to 20 votes for your favorite videos per week, you can also share your votes with your followers on Twitter and your Facebook friends. ”

chearts77: I’m looking at the mediabase report on All Access right now. Looking at the audience #, he’s higher than Rodney and Martina. Is it possible he makes top 20 on Billboard this week? I know the monitored stations on each are slightly different. Just thinking out loud. Hoping for a top 20 for Scotty.

It’s possible. Scotty’s at #22 Billboard right now with 2 songs ahead of him going recurrent. But it’s really tight around him. Billy Currington was actually behind him last week and is having slightly better AI gains so far this week so could pass Scotty. But Scotty’s having a slightly better week than Rodney Atkins who was slightly ahead of him last week on Billboard so he might pass him. There’s also George Strait who’s closing fast and still has 2 days left in the week. On the other hand Martina’s song is dropping fast now.

Worst case scenario is that on Billboard, Scotty remains behind Rodney, gets passed by Billy and George and doesn’t pass Martina which would keep him at #22 but with a bullet.

Best case scenario is that Scotty passes Rodney and Martina and stays ahead of Billy and George which would actually land him at #18.

Based on this morning’s numbers and his CCUSA debut I’d guess he’ll land at #19 with Billy passing him but George not catching him yet while he passes Rodney and Martina. That’s a better scenario than I’d expected at the beginning of this week.

  • chearts77

Thank you Windmills for that explanation. :) I temporarily forgot about George coming on fast behind him. How could I? LOL!! How fast is Toby coming up knipping at his heals? I’d be thrilled to see him make this song a top 20 hit. :D

I wonder if this voting limit is aimed at AI, Bieber, and Britney fans. At the very least, a voting limit should result in less manipulation by VH1.

  • fadetowhite

Mr Cook – looks like you’re soon to have a contender in my new album affections!

Watching Colplay at Glastonbury and being reminded of all the reasons I have loved them in the past: anyone know when their new album is out?

That, and all the reality show contestants coming their way. Now there will be 3 crops of them coming out. That’s potentially a lot of fan spamming.

I saw your question so I decided to take a look for you. Here is where Toby is in relation to Scotty and the ones right around him to give you an idea. windmills and Kirsten can give you the excellent analysis that I can’t. They are pros at that. :)

George is still a good 2MM behind Scotty in audience and Keith nearly 5MM behind. So, perhaps they won’t jump him this week. Probably will next week, though, as they are heavy hitters. And, I’m starting to hear both songs on the radio every other hour it seems. LOL!!

  • Pam

I’m starting to hear both songs on the radio every other hour it seems.

Your welcome btw :) That’s a good clue that an artist has a hit on their hands. heh Yep, those two are very established artists.

George is closer on Billboard than Mediabase AIs might make you think. I’d estimate the Billboard AI gap between Here For A Good Time and ILYTB is probably less than a million AIs right now. I think George will pass Scotty next week though, not this week.

Toby’s gained on Scotty some this week but I don’t think he’ll be a threat to pass him for a few weeks on Billboard.

IMO the next obstacle is how loaded the chart is ahead of ILYTB. Scotty’s soon going to have to rely on songs dropping because I don’t really see him passing a lot of songs now ahead of him. Other than Josh Turner’s single which I don’t know how much longer it can really hang on, all of the songs ahead of ILYTB look like at least t5 hits and only 1 or 2 of them have peaked. That’s going to slow things down a lot but not just for Scotty.

    Yaaay Scotty!

  • Pam

I think that’s the biggest spinincrease that ILYTB has seen in a few days. I was glad to see that too. Yay top 20!

Probably countdown shows. Weekends are full of those because they can tape them in advance.

That thought had crossed my mind.

Yes, ILYTB debuted on Country Countdown USA this weekend. Tomorrow’s spincrease should be even bigger because of that. ILYTB was already on the other countdowns I believe.

I think Scotty should be safe for t20 on the final update for this week’s published Mediabase chart. He’s only 7 points ahead of Martina at #21 but Teenage Daughters is on its way down. Rodney Atkins at #22 is 70 points behind and afternoon updates don’t usually shift things by that much.

George Strait continues to close in on ILYTB but I still think ILYTB will come out ahead on Billboard this week.

A note from the top part of the charts: Evil Big Machine has been at it again this week with a major push for #1 for Taylor Swift’s Mean. It looks like it will squeak out a 6 point lead over Blake Shelton’s Honeybee on Mediabase. Honeybee will probably still be #1 on Billboard (for the 3rd straight week) meaning this will be the 3rd consecutive single where Taylor’s label put together a monster push to mess with the charts to get her a Mediabase #1 but showed Billboard is less easily manipulated because it uses AIs. Taylor’s really the only act getting this level of manipulation today. Labels do little pushes for #1 for other artists but usually you can tell they’d get there anyway and it’s just a little acceleration. Nothing to the extent that Big Machine’s doing for Taylor.

The only good thing about this is Mean will probably follow the pattern of Mine and Back To December and experience an epic collapse which should clear up some space and get the top of the charts moving again.

    Congrats Scotty :)

Who in country will be going recurrent later today? I recall there were two at some point who were ahead of Scotty. If that’s still the case, he could go as high as #18 for the official weekly Mediabase ranking.

It’s only 1 recurrent on Mediabase ahead of Scotty: Keith Urban (Without You). There’ll be 2 recurrents on Billboard: Keith Urban (Without You) and Brad Paisley (Old Alabama).

In Australia, Carrie’s Play On Deluxe Edition is down 1 spot to #15 on the Top 50 Albums Chart and up 1 spot to #1 on the ARIA Country Albums Chart. I’m reading Undo It debuted at #85 on the ARIA Top Singles Chart but I don’t have an official link for that.

windmills: how does a label “push” a song? I’m just curious. Yeah, something looks odd on mediabase. Taylor’s got less spins and less audience than Blake, but listed as #1?? Can’t wait for the song to start falling and stop playing on radio so much. They over play her songs to the point where I roll my eyes and turn the station when it comes on.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing how high Scotty can climb on the charts. :D

Ah, great news for Scotty. Hitting Top 20 for the coronation/debut single is a huge accomplishment, and in my book, anything beyond this is gravy. ILYTB has done its job and more, and proven Scotty can have success on country radio. Excellent.

Meanwhile, the Chris Richardson song is picking up steam on Rhythmic. This could be fun to watch:

Labels give stations giveaway trips and items to promote a song, they promise them exclusive goodies to encourage the stations to play a song more, you’ve got regional reps that make phone calls, call in favors, and stuff like that. Label reps ask stations to hold back on spins for some of their other acts temporarily and give those spins to the one they’re trying to push. If you look at what’s been going on the last few weeks it looks like they’ve been holding back The Band Perry and Justin Moore. The Band Perry is on Republic Nashville which is a joint venture between Scott Bulls**tta Borchetta who’s the head of Taylor’s label Big Machine and Universal (which does Taylor’s pop promotion). Justin Moore is on Valory which is the sister label to Big Machine.

Evil Big Machine obviously knows the Mediabase formula so they knew how to get a #1 in points even though Mean has less spins and AIs than Honeybee. They’ve done this 3 singles in a row now for Taylor for singles that were obviously not getting to #1. Mine and Back To December were going to peak at #4 or #5 respectively and they got pushed to Mediabase #1. Even with the push Back To December peaked at #3 Billboard (Billboard’s not immune to pushes but it’s harder to make an impact there). At least with Mean it was going to naturally peak at #2 but even still, people who watch the charts know what’s going on. It’s about Taylor’s label proving to country radio they still want to do business with them and still have goodies to offer country radio even though Taylor’s making pop albums.

The afternoon update’s in. Scotty moves up to #19 with Keith Urban’s Without You going recurrent so his t20 is official :)

    Nice! :)

I love your Scott Borchetta analysis windmills. heh I remember the talent show that mj covered here “Can You Duet”. That was the first time I had ever heard his name. I knew Taylor was with Big Machine from seeing all of those HDD updates over the last couple of years or so but that show sort of put 2 and 2 together for me so to speak.

Great! Maybe that will shake loose a few of the 17 monitored US country stations that have been reluctant to add ILYTB, such as WSM in Nashville.
