NCOE will obviously be supported as it will be the single he performs on Idol and at all album promo appearances.  He is singing it on Kimmel next week.  He has 4 chr spring fling concerts as well as an hac one coming up — he will be performing ncoe at all of those.  So I don’t think anyone needs to worry about the label support ncoe…they timed its release to coincide with cd promo.  And it will get a good video since its considered the lead single in the UK.
I have never seen anyone — fan or no fan — claim tht RCA never intended BTIKM to get pop play.  Such position would be silly — he did promo at pop stations and got pop adds.  It just never took off on that format.  It happens.  As for VH1, i don’t think the same payola rules apply to tv music channels and countdowns as for radio.  But in any event, as all have seen over the years, lots of things factor into the cd, including label support and vh1′s own interests.  Vh1 will play a video with negligible sales and radio play for months and put it high on the countdown, and it will kick popular videos/songs with huge sales and radio play off in a few weeks.  They promote their featured artists heavily.  But there is also no question that the label can and does pull support for videos, and that vh1 follows suit when that happens.  Its not an “excuse” re Adam. It is a pretty clear pattern for all artists. In any event, it is clear that the label, Adan and his management have moved on to the new single.

That’s awesome news for Casey J about hitting Top 20 after recurrent are removed!

Also, congrats to Haley for cracking Top 50 on the HAC chart! At least 1 song (Bruno Mars’ It Will Rain”) will go recurrent when the official chart gets published, so both she and Kris will move up one spot, anyway.

Looks like Haley will end up passing Kris in the next day or so, as well. All the radio promo she has done has started to kick in (hint hint hint, RCA)

girlygirltoo – could you do me a big favor and explain to me what recurrent means?  I see it here all the time and never know what it means.  Still learning :)

  • LVD

Against all odds, CaseyJ’s LDCIAN held off Toby Keith’s Beers Ago this week on Mediabase (which I didn’t think it would) and will make t20 when recurrents (Taylor Swift, Montgomery Gentry) are removed this afternoon. BIG congrats to CaseyJ and his fans. This is a big deal IMO.I don’t see t20 Billboard coming this week and would like LDCIAN to make t20 on both charts. But, at least LDCIAN will get there at MB. I think it’ll retain its Aircheck bullet – yesterday’s NASCAR race is probably the reason it didn’t get back its spin bullet this morning.

Against all odds indeed! I never thought Casey would be able to hold off Toby Keith this week, it was only two days ago when I realized that it might happen. But even then I waited to see until it actually happen.

i have been holding my breath for this breakthrough for weeks (do you see how blue my face is??? LOL). I am so happy for CaseyJ.

Against all odds could be Casey’s motto. He got the himbo role assigned to him on AI. He came off a season ridiculed as the weakest talent ever on the show. He took a long time to get music out and was widely written off as having any chance at all to crack the market.

This doesn’t mean he’s “made it”. But it is a huge step forward and I couldn’t be prouder and happier for a genuinely nice guy who is talented and has paid his dues.

Going recurrent means a song is no longer eligible to be on the primary radio charts (there are separate charts that tracks songs that have gone recurrent).

Mediabase and Billboard both have rules for when a song is eligible to go recurrent. Mediabase’s rules state that (for all the genres EXCEPT Country and AC) that a song will go recurrent: (A) for songs that peaked inside the Top 10 on chart, eligible to go recurrent after being on chart for 20 wks & has fallen below #10; (B) for songs that peaked outside the Top 10, song is eligible to go recurrent after being on chart for 20 wks and has 2 straight negative updates.

In addition, songs that don’t meet these recurrency rules can be purged from the chart. This happens when songs that have been on chart for less than 20 weeks start to rapidly lose spins. (for instance, it is possible (but not definite) that the Hot Chellae Rae single will be purged from the HAC chart when the official chart gets published tonight, as it has fallen out of the Top 40 and is rapidly losing spins)

Hope this clears things up at least a little bit for you

I’m so happy that Casey has made Top 20! Have been waiting and hoping for this!

girlygirltoo, let me see if I understand – so are you saying that a song can be purged from the charts, even though it’s still technically charting, if it doesn’t meet this criteria?  But if it meets the criteria it will remain on the official charts?  I think I understand – thanks for taking the time to educate me :)

Purging is a somewhat random process to the bystander. As girlygirl said, if a song is rapidly losing spins it could be removed from the chart to allow newer songs to chart. The criteria for purging are that the song in question has fallen out of the top40 and is unlikely to ever return (fairly new songs are usually kept on).

Today, the HCR song is a very good candidate for purging as it peaked in the top20 and has dropped rapidly for the past couple of weeks – but nothing is certain when it comes to purges.

Congrats to Casey!  Finally, top 20. Great accomplishment on a competitive chart.

And congrats to Haley, that girl’s been working the radio promo hard & making lots of appearances. I like her song a lot.

One song was removed from the top 20 on Hot AC, so Kris and Haley’s songs will move up at least one spot on the chart.

  • Anonymous

Two songs were removed from the published HAC chart (Bruno Mars went recurrent, HCR was purged), so Kris and Haley both moved up 2 spots from this morning’s chart (to #47 and #48, respectively), while Carrie officially has a Top 40 HAC hit with Good Girl:

    HAC PUBLISHED CHART:

    1.   Kelly Clarkson – Stronger
    11. The Wanted – GYC
    17. Adam Lambert – BTIKM
    25. One Direction – WMYB
    33. James Durbin – LMB
    34. Daughtry – OMH
    38. Carly Rae Jepsen – CMM
    39. Carrie Underwood – GG
    47. Kris Allen – TVOL
    48. Haley Reinhart – Free
FYI: There are a bunch of songs that could be purged from next week’s chart, including (I believe) both Adam’s and James’ singles — although it isn’t definite any of these songs will get dropped. Also, if Christina Perri’s song “A Thousand Years” drops out of the Top 10, it will go recurrent. So the Idols at the bottom of the Top 50 could see upward movement on next week’s chart even if they don’t have great updates in terms of actual spins.http://www.allaccess.com/hot-modern-ac/mediabase

Nah, unless they changed the purging rules along with the recurrent rules (which could have happened, but I haven’t seen it mentioned anywhere), Adam and probably James should be safe this week. Purging is only considered if the song has dropped out of the top40 and doesn’t look like it could return.

If Young The Giant’s song continue dropping at the current pace then it will end the week outside the top40 and is likely to be purged. But that, and possibly the Pitbull song are the only candidates currently in the top40.

But yes, if Christina Perri and/or Jessie J drop out of the top10 this week, they will go recurrent.
