Weekend Countdown Shows – 01/01/11

Every weekend, there are countless countdown shows. VH1’s top 20 videos. Ryan’s American Top 40. Rick Dee’s Weekly Top 40 and many more. If you find an Idol on one of these shows, please post it here!

Because it is year end, we will likely see a repeat of some of the countdowns we saw last week. Here is a link to that post.

This is the general numbers thread for the weekend. So, if you find some cool numbers, this is the thread for posting them.

Happy New Year Everyone! MMXI!

Can anyone tell me why Radio Sophie (KSCF) doesn’t show up on my custom reports when I try to look up Kris’s current spins? It IS a monitored station, so it should be showing up. I’m confused

Waiting on the GAC countdown (if there is one), but this is the CMT top 20 for this week:

    #10 (15) Don’t You Wanna Stay (Jason Aldean/Kelly Clarkson)
    #2 (3) Mama’s Song (Carrie Underwood)

  • girlygirl

    nvm

Oh, we used to be able to access everything with that username and password. :(

Was that station removed from the HAC panel during the holidays?

I still see it on the list when i search stations “not in”

  • girlygirl

well it can’t be 0 spins — Radio Sophie has been playing AWM several times per day

I hope they didn’t remove KSCF from the Hot AC panel — if you add in those spins with the ones listed, Kris would be about 25-30 spins behind the song at #50 on the Hot AC chart

please don’t share the PW (although it only works for the one part of the website; not the in-depth daily numbers)– I deleted it from my post. Thanks!

haha I know we have all joked about some of the weird seeming places Adam has charted or gotten high on iTunes over this last year but um this one surprises the hell out of me for some reason lol

Adam Lambert’s “Whataya Want From Me’ scores #6 in Serbia’s POP TOP AIRPLAY CHART 2010… http://fb.me/PZ7q8koR

  • Q3

AWM has dropped slightly on KSCF’s playlist but still 25 spins last 7 days.

lw #17 TW #21 KRIS ALLEN Alright With Me TW 25 lw 29 -4 AI 0.131

They played a lot of 2010 big hits yesterday. So that caused some songs to drop that were not in their Top 10 or Top 20 for 2010.

  • girlygirl

and KSCF has already played AWM at least once today (according to yes.com)

No weirder than Adam’s songs (I don’t remember which) charting in Ukraine or Hungary, I think. Serbia’s just one more European country to the collection. Now, if Adam charted in Kazakhstan, I would blink a few times.

  • koshka

Now, if Adam charted in Kazakhstan, I would blink a few times.

Ah, fond memories. The only english channel I could get in Kaz for the week was MTV and at the time they played Kelly every 5 minutes. “Since you been gone…” LOL

I was driving to CT last night and KC101 was playing their top 100 of 2010. I think David A. was on it in the 80s I think. It was Something about Love (possible I have the title wrong but it sounded like his voice). I have no idea where Adam or Kris ended up as I arrived shortly thereafter but they must have been pretty high.

99.5 FM (my 99.5) in Salt Lake City just played their top 99 songs of 2010:

With the new season set to start, I was contemplating what we might expect from an idol winner this year. Assuming that past trends might yield a glimpse into future, I was wondering if anyone had the numbers for the following:

For Season 7,8 and 9: Avg # of viewers/show, # of viewers during finale

First week album Sales for winner and runner up of season 7, 8, and 9. (So first week sales for David Cook, David Archuletta, Kris Allen, Adam Lambert, Lee DeWyze, Crystal Bowersox)

Hope this is appropriate to ask here, I thought the numbers thread would be the best place to pose the question as I figure there’s got to be at least a couple numbers junkies that have this info at their finger tips. :)

  • wordnerdarchie

Hope it’s Ok with MJ, if not please delete. In answer to jms’s question above:

First week’s sales Season 7-9 for winner & runnerup. (Unofficial)

David Cook 279,578 plus street violations of 234
David Archuleta 182,927 plus street violations of 197
Kris Allen 80,072 plus street violations of 37
Adam Lambert 198,466 plus street violations of 437
    Lee DeWyze 38,581
Crystal Bowersox 57,804 plus street violations of 52

    Viewers for Finales

    Season 7 – 31.66 million
    Season 8 – 28.84 million
    Season 9 – 24.22 million

I do not have the average viewers for the season.

Past trends may not hold up since it is a whole new ballgame with the return of Nigel, new judges, new format, the addition of Universal and other changes. Anything can happen.

  • wordnerdarchie

    Anything can happen.

    Ditto.

  • sagi

David Cook 279,578 plus street violations of 234
David Archuleta 182,927 plus street violations of 197
Kris Allen 80,072 plus street violations of 37

    Lee DeWyze 38,581
Crystal Bowersox 57,804 plus street violations of 52

Okay, don’t judge me, but what does street violations mean? *scratches head*

  • Incipit

    what does street violations mean?

sagi, street violations are albums sold in stores before the official release date – the bar codes are scanned, so they are counted, but not added to the official totals.

  • sagi

Thanks, half joking, in my head,I pictured people selling them on the street without a license to vend and getting busted for it! LOL! :)

  • limi

sagi, street violations are albums sold in stores before the official release date – the bar codes are scanned, so they are counted, but not added to the official totals.

Well that sucks!! that an artist does get those additions. I never heard that term either- lots of funny connotations for that one- Sagi- I had the same impression!

  • wordnerdarchie

Just to clarify, those street violations don’t count for the first week’s sales, but are included in the year to date totals.

  • Incipit

Thanks for the clarity, Wordnerdarchie, I ought to have phrased it that way – ‘not added to the first week’s official totals’.

    ;)

  • jms

    Thanks, wordnerdarchie!

And, tripp_ncwy, for the contestant’s sakes, I hope past trends don’t hold up or they’re looking at selling basically nothing. If the rate of decline continued, then the S10 winners could expect a combined first week sales total of around 20,000 albums. That would make the exposure of AI almost completely ineffective. Since viewership hasn’t dropped at the same rate, I’ll keep my fingers crossed that the format changes will make a difference.

  • wordnerdarchie

LOL! Incipit, we all know how “we” can be misread on occasion. Saying the same thing but in a slightly different way for some of the newer members of this site is usually helpful. ;)

  • Hazehel

I do not have the average viewers for the season.

Here are the average viewership numbers for Tuesday and Wednesday. The numbers are in million. I don’t have separate numbers for season 1. I only give the average number for the season as a whole where I can find them, but if number is not given for the season, the number should lie somewhere in the middle between the numbers for Tuesday and Wednesday. The number in parentheses is the season ranking.

    Season 1 – average 12.7 million

    Season 2 – average 21.7 (4)
    Tues – 21.56 (5)
    Wed – 21.93 (3)

    Season 3 – average 25.1 (2)
    Tues – 25.73 (1)
    Wed – 24.31 (3)

    Season 4 – average – 26.8 (1)
    Tues – 27.32 (1)
    Wed – 26.07 (3)

    Season 5 – average – 30.6 (1)
    Tues – 31.17 (1)
    Wed – 30.16 (2)

    Season 6 – (1)
    Tues – 30.02 (1)
    Wed – 29.54 (2)

    Season 7 – (1)
    Tues – 28.75 (1)
    Wed – 27.78 (2)

    Season 8 – (1)
    Tues – 24.741 (2)
    Wed – 25.527 (1)

    Season 9 – (1)
    Tues – 22.974 (1)
    Wed – 21.951 (2)

Sometimes numbers given for a season can vary a bit, for example, one source gave an increase for Season 7 over Season 6 which to me doesn’t make sense (the numbers it gave for Season 6 look unreasonably low), so I just choose those numbers that make better sense. The difference in numbers probably has something to do with the way they calculate the numbers, but the ranking should be the same.

  • TwigLA

I’ve been thinking about this for a long time, but the ‘first week sales’ always bothers me. There are too many factors that aren’t taken into consideration. The time of the year (week and month) they are released and the day of the week are the biggies. For example, an album released on a or Tuesday before Black Friday should sell more in it’s first week than the same album released on a Friday in a less lucrative week.

There is also an issue with ship date. An album may be officially released, but if it hasn’t been shipped yet, those sales don’t count. The shipping confuses me as well – is it based on delivery to the retailer or delivery to the consumer. One example for me is Kris’ album (released on a Friday) was not available for download on iTunes to me until 3 weeks after release despite my ‘pre-ordering’ it on the day it was released. Another is Taylor Hicks’ album shipped a million copies but I think actually sold around 700,000. That example is overall sales, I think, but it underlines the sales issue.

I’m just musing here, and I don’t know if anyone has a concrete answer to my dilemma.

  • mmb

Hac is done with Xmas music. The chart is full of huge positive bullets today ( resetting after all the negative bullets of the prior few week due to holiday tunes). The good news is SS got it’s bullet back. The bad news is it’s the lowest bullet in the top 30, the song lost two places over the past few weeks and could be passed by two more songs over the next week or two. I had thought that SS had a clear, easy path to the top twenty ( whether it could improve from there I had no idea). But now I’m not so sure top twenty looks like a certainty. This looks like a song that is struggling. Things could trim around on a dime after the holidays however. Hac is slow and weird

When will iihy go recurrent? Seems like it has been on the chart forever

  • luly

mmb- IIHY will go recurrent either this week or next week, depends if mediabase will remove recurrent this week or not.

I agree, SS didn’t come out of the freeze in the best shape. We’ll know in the next week or two what the fate of the song is; if it doesn’t start getting support at WPLJ, KBIG and/or WTMX, then the writing’s probably on the wall. The next two weeks are critical.

I’m also interested in watching to see which markets FD starts getting test spins in this coming week – HAC, AAA or Country? Maybe a combination?

    ITA.

Sometimes it takes a week or so for the chart to straighten itself out, so its not quite over yet. But I don’t think it will take long to know one way or another. PDs have to have lots of data on the song by now. If its gonna tank, we will know soon.

SS was played on the American Top 40 HAC countdown show today. They were having their year end countdown and induced SS as an “extra song” after entry #38. So this is now 2 countdowns where ATop40 has included SS off the chart. Doesn’t sound to me like the song is dead yet…

  • Ceddies

I don’t normally post on the numbers threads, but I did read thru this one. Hopefully what I’m about to say hasn’t been posted. If so, sorry about that. Don’t mind if it needs to be deleted. I was listening to XM radio Channel 26 “Pulse” this afternoon for the top 40 or 45 countdown for 2010. I just heard the latter part of the show which caught my attention as I was surfing when “Whataya Want From Me” was played and identified as #13 for the year. Kept listening and heard two other Idols played and identified: #6 was Already Gone by Kelly Clarkson, and #5 was Life After You by Daughtry. I wasn’t even aware of this channel, but I will listen to it more. There were songs on the top ?? that I never even heard, and I thought I was pretty up on music. Rob Thomas had two in the countdown. And MJ’s favorite song (Soul Sister) by Train was their #1 most played.

  • Studio57

Ceddies- I am a regular XM listener. I would be really shocked if LLWD didn’t place higher than WWFM. And I am saying that as an Adam fan. LLWD was a huge song on Pulse. I am pretty sure they played it more than WWFM. It’s the HAC channel. Hits 1 is the pop station ( channel 20)

  • Ceddies

Ceddies- I am a regular XM listener.

Studio, I only have XM in my car so I don’t hear much. I normally listen to OutQ (XM98) or to Top 20 on Channel 20 which is why I hadn’t found Channel 26 as one that I might like to listen to. I’m pretty SURE about this, but I wonder if there is a way I could go back and verify. As I said, I don’t usually pay a lot of attention to this thread because it’s easy for someone who doesn’t like numbers (me) to get lost in the numbers. :)

ETA: I know LLWD was played a lot on the radio in general, it was on everywhere. But I definitely don’t recall hearing it this afternoon. Wish I had a home XM unit, I’d check to see if there is a rebroadcast of the countdown just so I could be sure. I wouldn’t want to shortchange Kris either, he is talented and works hard too.

  • tierbee

LOL, tierbee, how do you not have this link? You poor thing!

I rely far too much on the Cook fan numbernerds. :) So I got lazy. Hahaha. But now all the lists of iTunes stuff made me curious so I wanna see!

  • tinawina

According to someone on Pulse, it usually takes about three weeks for the chart to get back to normal.

That makes sense when you think about it. This week still has some countdowns, next week will be back to normal, and since the spincounts are measured against the week before… taadaa! We get week 3 before the chart you are looking at is regular chart. Yeah, I guess that does sound right!

  • Ceddies

This week still has some countdowns

So, tinawina, do you think the XM Channel 26 might still be running the yearend countdown during this upcoming week? I was assuming that the countdown shows would be over after today (end of holiday weekend), but actually tomorrow is still a holiday for some peeps. So, I’m gonna try to catch that countdown again tomorrow. Hopefully it will be on again. I don’t like trying to second-guess myself.
