I never get it about the ratings, winning key demo but not having the most viewers. So who won? Survivors or X Factor? What the producers prefer? Winning key demo or having the most viewers? How they measure key demo anyway?

  • http://twitter.com/MissGolightly22 No Thanks

Advertisers care more for key demos.  They’re the ones paying for the commercial time slots, which is the whole reason why TV exists in the first place.

As far as advertisers go, X Factor won the night. The key demo is the most important number because that is what brings in the money from advertisers. Networks want to have shows that reach the key demo because that means more money for them.

I read somewhere a while back that some higher ups in the TV industry are taking a closer look at key demos.  There seems to be some feeling too much emphasis may be placed on them.

They still have to answer to the advertisers. CBS for years has been trying to get more $$ for its older audiences and it hasn’t been working too much.
