Ratings are in from TVBYTheNumbers

Fox won the night with adults 18-49 with a 90 minute “Michael Jackson night” of the The X Factor that drew a 3.7 adults 18-49 rating (naturally way up vs. Thanksgiving Eve, but down 5% vs. the two-hour telecast on November 16). . The premiere of I Hate My Teenage Daughter got a decent sampling and drew a 2.8 adults rating. Not “fantastic” but nowhere near abysmal either especially considering the pummeling it has taken for months with critics and TV media. Fox’s not-so-anonymous-really head of scheduling lovingly mocked on Twitter. With over 75% retention out of The X Factor, even the retentionistas don’t have much to work with. Yet.

At least X Factor beat Christmas From Rockefeller Center which was down 5% from a year ago.

Which means, it is still half of what AI gets.  #SimonCowellFail

Just looking at the competition for X-F last night…the show should have wiped the floor since it was up against reruns, another reality show, and an (AC) Christmas special.

Obviously the show isn’t pulling in anyone new…and it is barely holding on to its original audience.

I’ll bet my Christmas savings that Simon will be firing a lot of peeps come January and that the show will be mightely re-tooled for its next season.  Hope he had multi-season contracts with his sponsors.

I think it is unfair to compare a brand new show that working out it’s bugs to a show that has been on for  10 years.  I still think AI has the advantage being on in January through to May when the weather is lousy and there is really nothing else to do but watch tv.  JMHO

Its not American Idol. Its not the winter. The same comments are getting tired. Its a new show. Its doing amazing for a new show.

Their ratings are solid. It’s not Idol but the show is still a hit and does manage to stay pretty steady with it’s audience.

It definitely needs some serious tweaking and for the winner to creat some buzz for the next season. But this show is not a horrible failure IMO. The problem was Simon’s mouth created some OTT hype and it obscures how well the show is actually doing.

I’m not surprised. Despite the fact that x factor was meant to make up for what idol lacked, I feel like in many ways, x factor actually exemplifies the very same weaknesses, except to a greater scale: hollow and scripted critiques, overemphasis on the judges, poor song choices, contestant drama … the overproduction and team dynamic only adds to the effect.

    In a word: unimpressed.

Yes, it is a new show. A new show that boasts at least two individuals who, in the past, have been very popular with members of the audience for this genre. A new show that has had scores of publicity for the better part of a year. A new show that has, in the last couple of weeks, faced little in the way of competition from other networks during the same time period. A new show that is discussed regularly on entertainment shows, talk shows and even news shows.

But also a new show that appears to get little, if any, buzz or interest from the general television audience. It isn’t appointment television.

Can we compare this season of X Factor to AI’s first season?  That’s not fair either, since more people were watching tv back then, but AI’s ratings were higher, especially among young adults.  AI also had more buzz, which lead to the ratings increasing, and not staying stagnant, like the X Factor’s have done.

Ouch! They may be “holding on” but from the opening numbers of 12 million, I’d say they are losing viewers!

For me the X Factor has been a disappointment.  I was really hoping for a great show and since it has been around so long in other countries I expected it to be great.  The show seems fake to me.  Why the dark audience, the screams and clapping that to me seems almost canned.  I don’t find the sound to be correct.  I also thought the caliber of talent was going to be like no other.  While a few are good, I don’t think most of them even belong there.  Last night’s show was very disappointing.  I see Paula and Nicole going crazy with excitement and Michael’s kids looking perfectly bored.  One of them had headphones on and the other was playing with a toy.  I have watched all the talent shows out there and if this one had to go head to head I just wonder how they would stack up.  JMO

Seeing how “Rudolph” kicked Glee’s butt in the ratings Tuesday night, I will laugh long and hard if XF’s results show tonight is beaten by the 41st annual showing of “Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town.”  Simon VS. Santa!  Who will win?!

I think the show’s fine; but I like to watch most of the reality singing shows.  I expected a bigger audience but in the Fall you have the season premiers and a host of other new shows to watch.  So, timing is off.  I REALLY wish The Sing Off was starting now.  I missed it, but would have been just right about now.

He can fire whomever and retool all he wants; but I am done with this show.

Some of the ‘tweaking’ should be done with production costs….with so many dancers on the show, it’s like a cross between x-factor and so you think you can dance?

As if we all have shiny ball syndrome *points to self*
