The ratings are in from TVByThe Numbers

NBC was the #1 network with adults 18-49, and total viewers.

On NBC, America’s Got Talent scored a 2.3 among adults 18-49 , even with last week.

On FOX, So You Think You Can Dance earned a 1.5 adults 18-49 rating, down 17% from last week’s 1.8.

I hate the idea of it getting cancelled. It’s been a big part of my summers over the past few years (and one winter). This year is odd. It’s not just them condensing it to one night a week; it’s the way they had the green mile and then went away for a week. Then they had a two week hiatus for the olympics. It totally messed with the momentum of the show and the bonding between audience and contestant. Even I – a big fan who attended the green mile episode – forgot the names of a few dancers during the lull. We learned how to do without it on Wednesdays. Not ideal.

I hope we get at least one more season.

I agree that this season is just off.  The new format is weird.  The breaks (4th of July and Olympics) were weird.  The choreography doesn’t seem as good, and there was a week with no new choreography at all.  The dancers have been great this season, so it’s a shame.

I will be so sad to see SYTYCD cancelled as I love the show!  I think the early years were more fun and we got to know the contestants better.  This one day of the week is disappointing.  I don’t know what TPTB can do to save the show.  I REALLY enjoyed yesterday’s show!

Has anybody been watching, “Chance to Dance”?  It’s good, but not like SYTYCD.

Rather than go right to “cancel”, maybe they could condense still more… Get to Top 10 quickly, 5 girls and 5 guys.

10 of each are too many to keep track of and get to know.  Also, less judging time and no more than 3 judges on any show.  Maybe less of everything would work, especially for people who are not all that invested in Dance.

This is not good. Even the boring result of AGT rating is higher than the main SYTYCD show. And lets face it nothing special about AGT result or super entertaining. The result is like usual, 2 guest star, tons of filler and useless judges comment but the rating still better than SYTYCD that jam pack with good and great dances.

Lets face it, dancing is not as popular as singing or mostly singing competition.

I think the new one-day format and the breaks are killing the poor show.  I wonder if it could be picked up by a cable network if Fox cancels it?  It’s been my favorite summer show for five years and counting.

So sad. The breaks totally killed the season IMO.  Coming back after the Olympics was for me — “huh?” and I love this show.

The Mia show was MIA in terms of showing off the current crop of dancers – that’s the key to getting folks to tune back in.  This week was good, but obviously many got turned off last week.

Too bad, because the potential of the show has always been good, and nobody else really showcases dancers in the same way.

  • potatorocks

Mia week killed it.   Expecting well rested dancers and amazing new choreography we got poorly executed rehashed Mia.   Anyone they didn’t lose during the olympics they lost with that episode.  It is too bad.

I didn’t want to be the one to say it, because I’m no expert in Dance.  But I had a definite “down” feeling after watching the Mia Tribute.  She’s wonderful in small doses, but for a whole show, which seemed endless, she’s just too heavy for me.

You know what, I think you’re right…I didn’t watch last night (sorry, shame).  The Mia week was very annoying to say the least, too much of the same, I disliked the way I felt the dancers were set up for negative comparisons, plus…I feel like they’ve already lost the most intriguing individuals and fantastic dancers (plus when I tried to vote, it wouldn’t let me and asked if I wanted spoilers–before I’d ever voted!)…

It’s a shame because the show has very talented dancers…

I think Nigel Lythgoe will be crushed if the show is cancelled. That show is his baby and I think for him personally, it’s way more important to him than idol.

  • Ratna12

I think the voting format is confusing.
I’m watching somebody dance and get excited about him / her / them and an hour later find out that the people is / are on the bottom, based on last week’s votes ? So deflated. And then after somebody got voted off, you are invited to vote again. The whole thing is not one continuous process IMO.

I can not get into this year’s show, and of course there is no Lauren Froderman in this year’s competition. I was hoping that either Whitney or Lyndsay is, but turns out…not really.

Preparing myself to accept this season as the last season :(

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

I have watched Nigel’s show, “Last Chance to Dance”.  It’s pretty good.  Then there’s his program called, “Opening Act” which involved finding singers to be the opening act of a famous singer.  I don’ know if I’ll watch it again.

His best song for the summer is SYTYCD.  Wish it didn’t have to compete with AGT.  I love dance just as much as I love singing!  This new format is NOT helping the show!

I am a big fan of SYTYCD — but without fail, the show always begins to annoy me when the contest begins and the judges begin to manipulate the votes. I remember so well the times dancers like Mark Kanemura and Jakob Karr (and MANY others) would get trashed in order to elevate the Judges’ favorite. I still don’t understand their reasoning in pushing for dancers like Russell and Cyrus. Am I the only person to be irritated by this? I love the show, but as the judges can’t leave well enough alone, maybe its time for it to finish.

I think one idea that could save the show would be an all-star season.  Bring back all the fan favorites and have them compete again.
