I fail to see why audience deep cuts are guaranteed to work against WMIC
(as I said, I am not using the other acronym ever again because it’s
not about how much time they spend on the guitar). Haven’t there been
plenty of seasons where the undercard eliminations in the finals have
    been mostly female (S10, S9, S5)?

Deep cuts make it harder to keep contestants in the competition.

No, I don’t think the majority wants only white males to win or do well and won’t stand for anyone else. *I* certainly have voted for females throughout the last five years, but I think the vocal minority wants to either keep white males out or wants manipulation against them. What have we been reading for the past few years in the comments section of this very blog? Too many WGWGs are winning! Keep them out! And we’ve seen that repeated even in the Idol press.

And you’re right. Manipulation has happened throughout Idol’s history, but I would just like it to either stop or be as little as possible. How is it fair to decide who they want to win from the get-go and then work towards that end, disadvantaging other worthy contestants? Don’t favor anyone. Let the chips fall where they may.

  • standtotheright

Yes, but they make it harder to keep all contestants in the competition, and I see no real reason to believe that WMIC would be the first to be eliminated.

I know that’s not what *you* think, but that’s the implication of the idea. If keeping WGs out is “the reason” the audience is “fed up”… well why now? Why them? TPTB do this every year. If the “vocal minority” didn’t like female R&B singers… well they only cast one last year right? LOL. Last year’s audience retained decently from the premiere. This year is the opposite. So I don’t think (hope) that’s the reason the audience is not retaining as well this year.

Heejun was never a joke contestant to me. He was and is my favourite from last year. Okay, Hollie moved up pretty close during the show. He is/was smart and funny, which is not a crime, but I really loved his tone and expression and thought with a good vocal coach he could go far. Still think so and hoping for the best for his upcoming CD.

As for Zoanette, I know nothing about her background. Has she been singing? Taken music lessons? Not a clue. She has a powerful voice and if she hasn’t had any training, who knows what could be. I have no idea how she got through the first rounds but this round she showed up and definitely had something.

However, I totally feel Rachel and Jett were robbed.

Duck Dynasty beat American Idol and Modern Family in adults 18-49 last night, according to Deadline.

    Yikes.

I keep turning it on every week but find myself picking up a magazine or engaging on twitter and then I just can’t even remember what happened — it’s just not holding my attention.  And I agree with whoever said one WGWG will be in the competition and that guy will win.  And while they may not be doing so badly when unleashed into the real world, they are not drawing big audiences for the last few weeks and the finale and that’s what Idol cares about most.

The thing is, they keep eliminating contestants that could hold your interest…last night, the young girls were my daughter’s faves and when they cut, she left.

Tonight, we just watched last night’s Duck Dynasty…sorry, but those guys are hilarious.

I read your comment and thought you were joking — but Duck Dynasty indeed beat Idol in the demo.

I think that the Idol party may be over because being the #1 show had become its brand ID.
