American Idol and Glee take big dips from last week’s comparable show.  Although Big Bang Theory scored a series low, its ratings were still  higher than Idol’s, which tied with Two and a Half man during the half hour they went head to head. Idol’s ratings were an all-time low for a regularly scheduled edition.

True… maybe the contestants are just testing the waters and are too afraid to be eliminated…Fingers crossed for edgier arrangements ! And hopefully Idol alumns as guest mentors.

I was thinking the same, so far they were so safe with the song-selections and moreover almost everyone on top 10 careful how to interpret them, no to step out of the box of their genres they aim to be musically as artist. To me Wednesday they were like having in their minds Randy’s question “what kind of artist you are?”, maybe the producers told them it’s their time to show who they are as artists and Candice was the only one who made a R&B version of a very known pop song and worked well, the others stuck with their song-selections/interpretations of their genres.
As for the ratings going down, in MO is the result of the show getting old and the executive producers not being able adjust it, to take that factor in consideration bringing something fresher, stepping out of box with song-repertoire, even the way they help the contestants with fashion selection, thinking of Curtis’ jacket for example, not really 2013 spring selection more like a one from the ’50s.

And yet 3 S10 contestants refused Jimmy’s song choices on the same night and did what they wanted to do. Jimmy is not God, the contestants can refuse his suggestions.

Scotty is headling his own tour right now – selling out most of them. Recording his second album.

  • Nadine_Bitch

Yes, I know that but he’s still yet to prove that he has staying power. Kris & Adam are on their 4th year off of AI and still doing good. We can’t say the same about Scotty & PP. They are still having their debut glory days which almost every winner & runners up had. But we would have a different story when it’s time for their sophomores.

When Adam was on his 2nd year like Scotty is doing now, he had headlined 116 concerts worldwide. and nominated for grammy.

And saying Scotty & PP are MORE successful? Don’t think so.

A lot of reasons NOT to watch the show, no reasons to watch.

That’s why I think having the longer semifinals was better, because contestants could have a few weeks more of performances to see what they could do, and to gauge the audience.
I also think people that took chances though it was best to show who they were early while they were on the show, to gain an audience for themselves.

For me, how nice it would have been to have had a quality singer like say a Michael Buble who would have fit in nicely with Keith, Mariah and Randy. Why? because the guy has a lot of class, as well as, a comedic side to him.and. a really great personality, that may have given the judging panel a spark for viewers, that I think it desperately needs! The contestants hopefully well sing more up-beat songs, this coming week. Maybe if they didn’t have to face Niki’s ridiculous comments their confidence would grow.

In the show yes she was portrayed differently . You should have watch her you tube videos, it’s the complete opposite. She has lots of personality, have REAL talent and carries herself like a PRO

  • Axxxel

yeah for Niki and her weird comments for being a test of confidence..
but I agree with your Buble and upbeat songs comments.

I don’t know. There are plenty of reasons to watch. You never know who will improve and rise ahead of the pack. I can’t hate the show, they’ve introduced me to some great artists and provided some people (who probably were ready to give up the dream) an opportunity.

  • Axxxel

Hope that those “many others” can be a guest mentor this season, like David Cook or Daughtry… I think one of the reasons why they asked Adam (besides the buzz and being available) is because he was already sort of mentoring his fellow contestants during his season… During one interview at American Idol Extra ,other Idol kids pointed at Adam when asked who is the ” campcounsellor”, the person they go to for advice or or just for sharing….

For me, Idol hasn’t really gotten worse in quality. It’s never been that great – some seasons turn out better than others, but really, it’s always been kind of boring and/or cheesy more often than not. The current cast is not one of the best in terms of variety of style and I don’t doubt that the lack of the typical WGWG type hurts the ratings a bit.

However, I don’t think Idol was ever so fantastic that it should have drawn 30 million viewers. Back in those days, it was like 10% of America lost its collective mind. Maybe they need to take a year off, give people a chance to miss it, and come back a little fresher. (Of course this would never happen while it remains Fox’s best-rated show)

And I like Nicki as a judge – she adds an element of unpredictability that the show has always been missing.

What exactly does “thread jacking” mean? I don’t want to post something and then have it removed because it’s thread jacking.

  • Axxxel

If I am not mistaken, threadjacking is trying to dominate the thread with one topic that is not relevant to the topic of this thread. e.g. me and some other keep on fawning on the qualities of only one American Idol alumn who could boost the viewer’s numbers of Idol…
