    Reunited Police to open Grammys
    People and Places

    Goodbye Paula?
Rock singer Courtney Love tells Usma gazine.com that American Idol’s executive producer Nigel Lythgoe called her office last week to see if she’d be interested in being a judge on the hit Fox show.
“I thought it was kind of weird,” Love says, “but brilliant.”

Usmagazine.com says an unnamed source reported that Lythgoe was considering having Love “replace Paula [Abdul].”

American Idol reps could not be reached for comment.

    CD Review: Katharine McPheeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Self-Titled Debut

…à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Get Over Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is being released as the first single off the record and I think thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a mistake. Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s rather overdone, and too emotive and repetitive to be the first song introduced to the radio waves, especially when there are better ones to choose from…

    Idol career kicks into gear

…More attention seems to have been paid to the first half of the album than the second, which downshifts into a bog of ballads. But overall, McPhee has made one of the most pleasing, and commercially attuned, of the “Idol” CDs. Expect her to join Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood in the show’s top pop sorority.

Birmingham’s talent, manners shine through ‘American Idol’ auditions

…Alan Hunter, co-owner of WorkPlay and a former MTV VJ, said he certainly didn’t see the next Underwood or Bice on Tuesday’s broadcast. In fact, Hunter said he thought the show “a little dull.”

Hunter said he did like Williams, but had hoped to see more talent from Birmingham showcased.

Viewers looking for an early glimpse of the next Birmingham champ probably were disappointed, Hunter said…

Courtney Love May Be New “Idol” Judge

Paula Abdul’s headline making press tour to promote the new season of “American Idol” may be her last if reports that she is to be replaced are correct.

The former singer and dancer, who has appeared on the show since season one with co-judges Randy Jackson and Simon Cowell, could be being replaced by another singer who has had her sobriety questioned in public.

Courtney Love, the grunge queen who has recently put her legal and drug woes behind her, has revealed to Us Weekly magazine that “Idol” producers have approached her to appear on the hit talent quest.

Love told the magazine the shows executive producer, Nigel Lythgoe , had contacted her.

She said, “He called. He was wondering if I was interested. I thought it was kind of weird but brilliant.”

The former wild woman of rock would not comment on whether she is being asked to replace Abdul, who has recently been accused of being intoxicated while on air during interviews after bizarre television appearances.

The show’s spokespeople have yet to comment on the rumored line-up change.

    Media circus comes to Miami

    Idol moments
Tonight Show with Jay Leno correspondent Mo Rocca grilled backup guard Terrence Metcalf on whether Sunday’s game was a stepping-stone to a career in the Arena Football League, whether American Idol judges were too mean and whether Paula Abdul should be prohibited from using performance-enhancing drugs.

“I think Paula Abdul should have been on Coyote Ugly,” Metcalf said, drawing a laugh from the comedian.

Rocca also gave Metcalf a wrapped gift box, which included a framed 8-by-10 picture. Of Rocca.

“I didn’t know what they trying to pull on me,” Metcalf said.

    Out of tune

Speaking of American Idol, two of the more memorable castoffs – Kenneth Briggs (the guy Simon said resembled a bush baby) and his plus-size buddy Jonathan Jayne – have landed a gig with Jimmy Kimmel Live.

They proved again they can’t sing, with their rendition of Take Me Out to the Ballgame, serenading Chicago defensive end Alex Brown.

Media day has it all — Tank, ‘Idol’ and a tree

At this point, it should be noted, 90 percent of the men and women holding media credentials are using the time and access wisely and professionally.
There are some folks, though, who are media the way I’m an underwear model. I’m talking about the clowns from “Entertainment Tonight,” “The Tonight Show” and, most grievously, “American Idol,” which has become a mean-spirited freak show. “Idol” sent two kids — the one with the big eyes and the hapless, chubby one — to go around to various podiums and ask players to join them in a rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame.”
Listen, I’m OK with funny. Funny is good. But this was just sad and ugly, grotesque even. “Idol” producers should be ashamed, and the NFL should be ashamed for providing credentials. The players didn’t sing, but they did their best to be accommodating and pleasant. At least somebody had some class.

TV Review: American Idol 6, Episode 5 – Birmingham Auditions

…This week there are no guest judges, which is nice but it makes me wonder on the fairness among the cities. After all, if Minneapolis had one extra judge but Memphis didn’t, does it mean that those in Minneapolis had a better chance of getting in? I’m not quite sure. Anyway, I digress…

Celebrity Noose: More Rehab, Idol and a Naked Potter

American Idol might be injecting a little train wreck of their own next season. ‘IDOL’ CALLS COURTNEY LOVE

….If some “Idol” viewers think Abdul’s behavior is well, strange, they might be in for a treat with Love, the wife of dead Nirvana rock god Kurt Cobain (he committed suicide in 1994).

Love has struggled with a highly publicized drug addiction through the years, which has led to some bizarre behavior and several stints in rehab facilities.

Lythgoe is out of the country and was unavailable for comment, his rep told The Post yesterday.

    Good morning, JJ. :)

  • Lisa B

    Crazy in Alabama
In Birmingham, ”American Idol” breaks all the rules: Paula plays tough, and pretty girls get eliminated; plus, a future star name-checks Hasselhoff

There are four standard scripts for American Idol’s female auditions (non-joke variety), and they can be pretty much summed up like this:…..

    http://www.ew.com/ew/article/0,,20010337,00.html

  • JJ

How would you feel about that, if the rumors are true regarding Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s replacement?

Well it depends,if they are replacing Paula, who they replace her with.

American Idol has always been a family show. I watch it with my kids, well at least the later rounds.

If they replace Paula with Courtney Love, they are obviously going for the shock value and are forgoing the family value of the show. So, as much as it would open up for great snark, it removes one of the benefits of the show, a show you can watch with your whole family from 8 to 80. Unless they try to pull themselves off as good samaritins giving Courtney a new chance at a career. Or something like that.

If they found someone more family oriented, than that would be OK. The sad part is I can’t come up with anyone, off the top of my head.

    Morning JJ.

I can’t imagine anyone else in that position myself. Paula is quirky, sometimes boring, too, but I have gotten used to her. It would not be the same without her, or with somebody replacing her. It could be worse, or better, but certainly not the same old show I have grown addicted to.

Silly us. We always thought the folks who run the “American Idol” juggernaut might be concerned that judge Paula Abdul has been acting a little tipsy lately.

A huge ancient settlement used by the people who built Stonehenge has been found, archaeologists have said.

LisaB, you are amazing as usual. Thanks. I find this stuff fascinating. I have this mental image of you sitting in this huge room (like a newsroom) with hundreds of computer screens, each one on a different country and news service. The LisaB Network. :thumbup_tb:

    Little Debbie….OT I know..
I saw an AP article about the discovery but I don’t know if I can post the entire article here… Also, check out CNN.com it may still be there.
I found it to be quite interesting.

Breakout the Birminghams, DIMYP in Mimosa. Oh, sorry, Im dyslexic.

    AI6…boringggggggg.

I keep waiting for that moment whenI say yes! Thats the one! and then write his or her name down on the paper I have in front of me.

The piece of paper is empty as of this moment.

    Morning all.

    Lisa, I love you.

Dingo, good morning and I completely agree with you. Not in the least bit impressed with anyone yet. Which is probably just as well, because I’m not really crazy about the idea of being a huge fan of someone again. I think Season 5 did me in!

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

XO, I’m not watching Kat’s interview, but I pulled this off another message board. Can you confirm that this is what sweet, humble, darling Katharine had to say?:

Katharine critiquing Sligh on the Today show: She was visibly cringing and said she didn’t want to be mean but didn’t think he would go very far. She said maybe his looks and personality would get peoples attention – like Taylor’s did – even though his vocals couldn’t carry him to a win.

  • jpfan

Karma seems to be at work here. The greater the snark, the greater the success in the “real world.” Start snarking on Elliott guys. Too bad there’s nothing else on TV because I want to skip the rest of the auditions. Plenty of talent I’m sure, I just don’t care and they seem boring or pathetic. The judges seem flat as well. This started last year but the contestants made up for it. I hope Hollywood rounds bring some interest. Last year we had the Brittenum twins and the whole thing seemed much more fun. If I hadn’t gotten into the show last year, I wouldn’t follow the career of Kat whose music is obviously not my thing. Is that a good or a bad thing?

  • OhSoDevine

I just watched Kat’s interview portion on the Today show. What poster Kat posted above is exactly right. Not one comment about his voice – all about his looks. I hope there is a link posted later today.

When asked about her struggle with bulima, she also answered that she was “over it”. Again, seemed a bit flippant about the seriousness of this disease.

  • squishy

I agree with Bobbi. No one has captured my heart yet this season. I like Jenry but he didn’t make it to Top 24. Sligh has the killer personality but not the voice or looks. I disagree with Kat. I think that Sligh will go far in the competition because of his personality. Sundance wasn’t as good as Taylor IMO. I kind of like the back up singer who didn’t quite believe in herself the best so far.

However, at this point in the competition my favorites were Paris and Lisa. It could definitely change once we see what the Top 24 can do. I didn’t notice Chris until he sang “Hemorrhage”.

But it really doesn’t matter. I ain’t voting ever again.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

I just watched Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview portion on the Today show. What poster Kat posted above is exactly right. I hope there is a link posted later today.

WOW. Yeah, I’ve got to see that.

This is why I don’t like her, guys. She makes ridiculous statemetents like that, completely oblivious to the fact that her pretty face and cup-runneth-over cleavage more than excused a few ear-splitting, disastrous performances from HERSELF. And nice dig at Taylor, implying that he won because of his looks and not his vocals. And yet it’s amazing how every time Taylor is asked about KATHARINE, he has nothing but wonderful praise for her.

Naturally, though, her tweeny fans will think she’s just being cute, refreshing, and honest, because her exquisite beauty excuses her passive-aggressive bitchiness. Queen Bee Syndrome.

    But it really doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t matter. I ainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t voting ever again.

Squishy, I doubt I’ll vote either.

  • http://idolthoughts.blogs.syracuse.com/ foxydonna

Can you confirm that this is what sweet, humble, darling Katharine had to say?:

Kat – you are correct. This is essentially what *** said about Chris Sligh with that backhanded reference to Taylor. Later, she backtracked and said he had (and I am paraphrasing since I didn’t write it down), the groovy hair going on (commented on jacket and glasses as well). Overall, Miss It came across as immature and shallow, tossing “over it” around constantly, and giggling like a 14-year old. Yup, she’s “over it” when it comes to her eating disorder, as if this were a cold. Merideth was easy on her, but seemed to be bordering on attack. It was *** at her blundering worst. I was amazed, actually, at just how flippant she was. I’ve taken it easy on her, but now, you know what, I’m “over it.”

  • Kirsten

Was I the only one who didn’t know MJs real name?

Kat said that…sigh! Taylor always says such nice things about her. I guess Kat isn’t polite enough to at least just not say anything about him if she can’t say anything nice.

  • NippyG

I was rushing around during Kat’s interview, but I do believe that after they showed the guy’s audition clip, Meredith commented, “You cringed…”

    Nice.

Kat also stated something to the effect of– He has a “cool jacket” (!) and the “goofy hair” (!!) which get him noticed… But you know, for HER it’s all about real musical talent.

Gritting my teeth, not gonna comment further…not gonna comment further…

  • Abilymom

And nice dig at Taylor, implying that he won because of his looks and not his vocals.

If this isn’t a pot/kettle comment by her, I don’t know what is. Ain’t no way in hell she makes final 2 if she didn’t have her looks.

  • thedingoateyobaby

It was *** at her blundering worst.

Donna, sounds like it was Kat being Kat. She has no social skills and I believe its the reason she uses her looks and sex to get people to focus attention on that rather than her inability to communicate and connect.

I still say she is very socially immature, almost like her social skills were stunted at a very early age.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

    I was rushing around during Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview, but I do believe that after they showed the guyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s audition clip, Meredith commented, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You cringedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Seems she’s got a visceral aversion to people who aren’t strikingly pretty or who aren’t in perfect shape.

I wonder if she ever thinks about the fact that if she were still 30 lbs. heavier, she wouldn’t be the media darling that she is today. Sad fact, but true.

  • OhSoDevine

People are going to have a field day with the Kat interview…do we have a smiley that shows a foot in the mouth?

“She said maybe his looks and personality would get peoples attention – like Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s did – even though his vocals couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t carry him to a win.”

Talk about creative interpretation. I think most people would interpret the above as meaning that whereas Taylor had the vocals to carry him to a win, the new guy doesn’t. But that wouldn’t be bad then, would it? Or perhaps the notion that Taylor’s looks and personality got people’s attention is somehow offensive.

    Carry on…

  • JJ

Was I the only one who didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know MJs real name?

I still don’t. Where is this information?

By the way, I am taking 3 sips of my mimosa, 2 because JTFTW and 1 more because it was played in some place other than Little Rock. OK new rules, we drink 3 times when JTFTW is played somewhere other than Little Rock. Baby steps, baby steps, but I take this as a positive.

I think Chris Sligh has the personality and the voice. The looks, there is no makeover in the world that is going to fix that. He was one of the 1st contestants this season that did not oversing the song.

  • OhSoDevine

    Dave –

You are leaving out QUITE a bit of conversation before that comment…..Meredith helped to lead Kat to that statement.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“She said maybe his looks and personality would get peoples attention – like Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s did – even though his vocals couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t carry him to a win.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I didn’t see the interview so I don’t know exactly how she phrased it. It could be interpreted both ways, I think.

Nevertheless, she apparently cringed at Sligh. Because Katharine is offended by the sight of people who aren’t pretty, apparently.

On Kat….she saud nothing bad about Taylor on Today Show(watched with my own eyes)…..no worries everyone…She said AI voters tend to go for “underdogs” which we all know is true. But NOTHING negative about Taylor Before the rumors start- I thought I would clear that up.Should I get a copy of trandscript for evidence?….also, the guy with curley hair that they were really talking about (if u go back and listen) was very screechy. I did not think so first impression but seeing NBC do replay-it sounded not good at all to to me!
_____________________Yesterday folks said Kat was was dull, boring, looked uncomfortable in LENO show singing…..OK,on TODAY show she warmed it uo some!…seemed comfortable and danced around some.smiled,etc..BUT,my prediction-this will now be considered to flirty,to sexy, full of herself, etc….:)

  • Abilymom

Juxtapose Taylor and Fantasia stoically watching laughably bad auditioners on Larry King Live and saying nothing bad about them to Kat cringing at Chris Sligh, who is obviously talented.

  • NippyG

And contrast Kat’s notable “cringing” at the audition tape to the solemn and sympathetic responses of Fantasia & Taylor to similar clips on Larry King Live.

    A WORLD of difference.

  • NippyG

LOL Abilymom, great minds and all…

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

also, the guy with curley hair that they were really talking about (if u go back and listen) was very screechy. I did not think so first impression but seeing NBC do replay-it sounded not good at all to to me!

Yeah, I guess it is okay for Kat to insult people if it’s true. I mean, there’s this girl in my tax class who’s incredibly fat, I mean grossly overweight, not a very pretty face, and dresses hideously. I think next time I see her, I’m going to tell her that she’s fat and ugly. I mean, I’m much prettier than her, so I should be able to get away with it.

And yes, I would be interested in seeing a transcript…an official one. If that is not what Kat actually said, I’ll take back what I said.

Ohhhhhh, that was gooooddddd. When I watched Taylor and Fantasia on LKL I remember thinking, what classy people. I thought that showing them those awful clips of some of the auditioners would possibly bring about a remark one of them would be sorry they made later but as it turns out, neither had a mean bone in them.

Katherine is unkind. Its very hard to like an unkind, shallow person and if you do then maybe you should examine your own intentions IMVHO.

ET high 5 Nippy as well.

  • Ray

WRONG!!!!!!…….Kat said the exact opposite about appearances! She said people should not be judged by physical appearance but by vocals….See-this is how a bunch of carp gets started about people. And the camera was not on them when anchor asked if she was cringing…..NO camera saw her cringinging….in fact Kat said good things about the guy but only said she did not think his vocals would cary him…simple…..mountains and mole hills!!!!!!

    Good morning, everyone…and Ray ;)

  • Little Debbi

Emeralgem, thanks for the CNN tip – good article and videos.

Dingo, I agree that this year is boring so far. Our massage therapist was over last night and we were watching idol while hubbie got his massage. She was a big Elliot fan last year, but does not go to any boards or anything. We were so bored with the show that we turned the sound down and I showed her Elliot’s latest pictures, stuff at MJ’s, stuff at Gray’s, etc. We both agreed that this stuff was a lot more entertaining than the show. Hopefully Hollywood will give us someone to root for.

To any Billy Joel fans, supposedly he wrote a new single that will be out on itunes on 02/20. It’s called “All My Life” and is a love song written to his wife.

Bobbi, my e-mail is ltldebbi@optonline.net. E-mail me and I’ll give you hotel and restaurant info.

Morning JJ. Hope you drink lots of Mimosas today.

Did everyone see Taylor’s little post in the comments at Gray’s yesterday?

  • JJ

On the Audition thread, someone posted as Chris Sligh. If that really was him, he is a very smart person. He is already trying to establish relationships with fans. He posted Go Fro Patrol!!!

  • OhSoDevine

Ray…with respect to all 11 of you…..that is not how the interview went. It will be up later for all to see.

Yeah, we were so close there (must have been simutaneously typing) it was almost scary!

But our united thought proves true– the difference in attitude to the auditioners between Kat and Tay & Tasia–ALL of whom suffered through the same process as these people they are now asked to comment on–is astonishing to me.

  • Kirsten

Ray: NO camera saw her cringingingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Are you accusing Merideth of lying?

OhSoDevine, I left out everything because I didn’t see the show. My comment was directed at what was said here on the blog. Whether that was complete or accurate, I have no idea. I just thought the interpretation was rather strained.

Although Sligh doesn’t look like what the stereotype of an AI winner looks like, I kinda like Sligh’s quirky looks actually. The only AI winner who fits the “stereotype” of what one should look like is Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson when she wears makeup and dresses up.

Sligh has a good voice but there are definitely better.

I think he will be a lot of fun in the competition. We need some fun around here!!!!!

I am disappointed that ALABAMA doesn’t play more Taylor! Whatz up?

With Tuesdayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Birmingham auditions, American Idol has once again proved that hillbillies are the scariest people on the planet.

I am from The hills in Georgia and I feel so insulted. If this had been a comedian using the “N” word, it would be in the news. How dare he insult an entire group of people to spice up his column! Do you know how many of the top 12 every year are from the SOUTH? Maybe he is jealous, but there is never an excuse to slander an entire group of people. This is so sad that he can get away with this. I am hurt! :annoyed_tb:

  • Little Debbi

Some of you may have already seen this, but I’m posting it because I think it’s really cool. An old friend of mine from Florida sent me this today:

TWO FRIENDS WERE WALKING THROUGH THE DESERT. DURING SOME POINT OF THE JOURNEY, THEY HAD AN ARGUMENT; AND ONE FRIEND SLAPPED THE OTHER ONE IN THE FACE.

THE ONE WHO GOT SLAPPED WAS HURT, BUT WITHOUT SAYING ANYTHING, WROTE IN THE SAND:

TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE.

THEY KEPT ON WALKING, UNTIL THEY FOUND AN OASIS, WHERE THEY DECIDED TO TAKE A BATH. THE ONE WHO HAD BEEN SLAPPED GOT STUCK IN THE MIRE AND STARTED DROWNING, BUT THE FRIEND SAVED HIM.

AFTER HE RECOVERED FROM THE NEAR DROWNING, HE WROTE ON A STONE:

“TODAY MY BEST FRIEND SAVED MY LIFE “.

THE FRIEND WHO HAD SLAPPED AND SAVED HIS BEST FRIEND ASKED HIM, “AFTER I HURT YOU, YOU WROTE IN THE SAND AND NOW, YOU WRITE ON A STONE, WHY?”

THE FRIEND REPLIED “WHEN SOMEONE HURTS US WE SHOULD WRITE IT DOWN
IN SAND, WHERE WINDS OF FORGIVENESS CAN ERASE IT AWAY.
BUT, WHEN SOMEONE DOES SOMETHING GOOD FOR US, WE MUST ENGRAVE IT IN STONE WHERE NO WIND CAN EVER ERASE IT.”

LEARN TO WRITE YOUR HURTS IN THE SAND AND TO CARVE YOUR BENEFITS IN STONE.

  • thedingoateyobaby

    He posted Go Fro Patrol!!!

    Bwahahahahahahaha!

How can ya not like someone with a sense of humor and smart enough to know that of the SP turns its awesome attention towards him in a positive way, he’s gonna be a success.

In fairness, if I had to pick just one “standout” from last night it would have been Sligh. Now I like him even more.

I would really hope that you all would be fair enough to see the Today Show interview before you get too rattled at what Katharine said. It’s coming across here much differently than what was really said and who said what. I don’t want to add my spin, and if I could I would post a vid of the interview myself.

    rita,

I’d love to be your Myspace friend! I can’t go there from work because Myspace is blocked, but when I get home.

  • http://idolthoughts.blogs.syracuse.com/ foxydonna

Chris Sligh is Internet savvy (google his name, he’s got blogs, several myspaces, and other references). Obviously, he knows how important the “Soul Patrol” was to Taylor last year and starting to cultivate a fan base at this point is brilliant. He does make reference to “Fro Patrol” in one of his blogs, and I suspect that the poster may really be him. See, all the cool folks know about MJs! Hopefully, he can remain incognito during the season. Either way, he may have been lurking here for a while! (Do we now have to fawn?)

Kat, Schmat – I’m “over it.”

  • Metta

Thanks for that lovely poem, Debbi.

Chris Sligh has a good voice and I love his personality. I’m really digging his original music, too. I hope he goes very far in the competition, enough for his band to get a record deal. He’s my fave, followed by opera girl and the backup singer.

  • Abilymom

I would very much like to see a video.

But, you know, everyone’s going to see what we want to see. Those of us who don’t like Kat are predisposed to see her as shallow, vain and rude. Those who love her are predisposed to see a cute, adorable, fun girl.

At least I’m not delusional to believe that I “know” Kat or what she’s really like because I got a MySpace message from her once. I can only judge her public persona.

  • emeralgem

When asked about her struggle with bulima, she also answered that she was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“over ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ . Again, seemed a bit flippant about the seriousness of this disease.
    ——————————–
Seriously, someone needs to DUCT TAPE her DAMN mouth SHUT.
My God, for her to make a statment like ” OVER IT” concerning any type of Eating Disorder is completely PATHETIC on her part..
Seriously, she really does need to SHUT UP since she does NOT have a clue as to what she is talking about…I just hope that no one who is plaqued with this problem places any value on anything she has stated concerning ED..

  • http://idolthoughts.blogs.syracuse.com/ foxydonna

Ray… here’s the thing. I watched the interview. It’s not hearsay. We all interpret things in different ways, but in the end, it’s about perception – how did I perceive her comments? She’s been plagued by this since the summer – missing the tour, etc. I don’t think she has a clue as to how she comes across on-camera, but someone needs to sit her down and explain how critical it is for her not to piss people off. No matter what she actually said, it’s how people perceive what she said. If I thought she was dissing Taylor and Chris Sligh, then the damage is done – you see what I mean?

  • Metta

((((Ray)))) I know it’s hard being a Kat fan here. For what it’s worth, I really look forward to your posts and enjoy your sense of humor—and I know I’m not alone. I’ll understand if you decide the irritation outweighs the fun for you, but I personally hope you’ll stay.

  • JJ

One of them is going to need it.

Can you please email it to Metta, so she can memorize it.

Kat, I am particularly interested in your reaction to Katharine’s interview because although you don’t like her, I really believe that you try to be as objective as you can be, and I respect that.

You are right that we see what we see based on our own preferences, but there reallly are facts regarding who really said what and there is something such as context.

Ray…I like you a lot and I hope you’ll stay. You do have a lot of insight and honestly it’s nice having a Kat fan around sometimes (especially one who doesn’t fit a tween demographic that I can easily brush off). But, a lot of us don’t like Kat and we have our own opinions about her, as do you. Maybe it’s all “negativity” and horrible stuff, and maybe we’re all evil bitter slags all going to hell, but…speaking for myself, I think what I think about Kat and judging from each new interview that comes out, it won’t change anytime soon. And this is a wonderful outlet to vent about it. I understand it must suck sometimes (as it sucks for me to go over to TWoP and have to deal with people who literally want Taylor to fall flat on his face and get yanked by his label), but I really hope you stick around.

  • Ray

well.I can agree with you KAT(the poster here) on that…I don’t know her(mcPhee) at all…she could be an angel or Satan himself for all I know…lol….my beef is with the flip side of that! Folks that don’t know her should not speak “the negatives” as if they know her inner thoughts also…fair I’d say.:)

  • Ladybug

–Stonehenge, The Village – I just knew those big blocks were cell phone towers and there had to be a nearby town where people were texting each other about the next Winter Solstice event and what they were going to wear.

–Kat doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like ugly men? Maybe she needs to dump that boyfriend, then.

–AI6 – Agree with all of you. Booooring this year. Squishy, I will be joining you in the watch-but-not-voting room. As to the Idols that caught my attention last year. Taylor, of course. Chris at his audition and when he sang à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hemorrhage à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“ Oh WOW! Then I got tired of him. One note Johnny. Loved the teen girls a lot. All the way through. Ace disappointed me vocally, but I really liked him.
I really liked Ayla and Gedeon and wish they had made top 12 over Kevin and Melissa.
All of Season 5 was a wonderment of diversity and terrific talent and ENTERTAINMENT. Will these people this year entertain us????

  • Metta

Can you please email it to Metta, so she can memorize it.

No need. All the engraving will be applied directly to your a$$. I–and the rest of the world–will be able to see it anytime. You, on the other hand, will need a handheld mirror. I’ll throw one in with the a$$-kicking, at no extra cost.

  • Nostradamas

I watched the interview and didn’t see a fucking thing wrong with it…good grief …..

Ray, you’re not alone in your feelings….

  • dave

When will I grow up and do serious adult things like make clever snark and comment on other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s lives and constantly bath in negativity at otherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s expense for the sake of a good laugh???????????????????????

Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray, Ray,

Why must you go there? Bask in the glow of your idol. She did look real purrty on Today today. She also did a much better job on her song Over It than on Leno. Maybe she feels more comfortable with the new bass player now.

Why do you feel the need to snark on fellow posters? Taylor gets snarked on as much as the next idol plus by his own. Maybe you should go to sites like MsMcPhee.com or katphans.com and recruit more Kat friendly posters. I can’t help but feel this all begins and ends with Metta’s name change.

  • Metta

    Ray, youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re not alone in your feelingsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

You’re smitten with me too, Nostradamas?

  • MaryS-NJ

I tried to post this before but it disappeared into the aether…

It feels like I moved into a town where everyone gossips and enjoys the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“negativeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Maybe I should just move on even if I am not banned for this postà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..

Ray, your posts are appreciated, even if I don’t agree with them. But I want to say that every American Idol contestant has his/her share of fans and detractors. Every blog, website or forum has a different mix of personalities, fans and anti-fans. The beauty is, you can opt in or out depending on how you feel about the mix.

Go out and read some of what is said about Taylor and compare it to what is said about Kat. I mean by critics of the show. I think many of them must be males who (i) feel Kat is fragile (ii) and/or are bedazzled by her mctatas, because they mostly treat her with kid gloves in their reviews. Even when they criticize her album, they treat nicely. Contrast that to the dismissiveness and venom served up against Taylor, most of which assume he didn’t deserve to win – which is basically a slap at those of us who believe he did deserve to win. It turns my stomach sometimes, but it goes with the territory.

  • SEXYGIRL

    THEOTHERDAVE,
I posted this last night in yesterday’s thread and I am sticking with it:

As ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve said before, Katà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s people have taken a page out of the Hollywood playbook. Be in denial about who and what youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re all about and blame all your shortcomings on everything and everyone but yourself.

Nevertheless, she apparently cringed at Sligh. Because Katharine is offended by the sight of people who arenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t pretty, apparently.

So, She is under the delusion that it was all those songe she messed up on that got her into second place. I have to say, I’ve watched AI on and off for six years and this is the first year I’ve seen such display of bad sportsmanship. Kat is very RUDE but she gets away with it because the hyprocrites in media won’t call her on it because of LOOKS…

When can we be over her. Sad that she that she could never take the high road.. Her mouth is beginning to become a lot like her singing. She cannot seem to get through a few sentences without messing up..

  • thedingoateyobaby

Ray, look, I aint told anyone this little tidbit in a very long time but I love Glen Campbell. I get all teary eyed when I hear Whitchita Lineman and Gentle On My Mind and I really really cant stand him as a person but I’ll be damned if he can sing some beautiful notes in his time.

I also cant stand Toby Keith but I have 3 of his CD’s.

WHY? Cause I like their voices and their music. Its as simple as that. Shit, I go over to VFTW and Sucks and TwOP and get my ass kicked all the time cause they have some ferocious snark about Taylor.

I dont give a shit, I know what I like and I like Taylor.

That should be how you feel as well. You love Katherine, flaws and all, warts and all, long legs and gorgeous face and all. She’s yer girl.

  • Margie

Ray ~ Would it help if I reverted to Soulpatroller? Ask and you shall receive.

  • KEG

All I’ll say in regards to Kat’s Today Show appearance is that it is pretty easy to see every comment and action in a negative light if you think the worst of that person. Of course it is easy to see the best in someone when that is what you are hoping to see. I adore Bucky but I haven’t seen one negative comment about his behavior on the LKL show where he was laughing at William Hung. I’m curious as to how this is different than what you are accusing Katharine of? None of the others on the pannel (Ace, Justin or Kimberly) laughed at William and it seemed pretty clear to me that William was not in on the joke. What about when Taylor compared Paula to a ride at Six Flags? When Taylor says this it is hilarious. Would it have been equally as funny if Kat had said it? I’m thinking no. I feel the interpretation of the Today show will be much like the interpretation of the People article that is out right now. So much fuss is being made over the “I wasn’t trying to win” comment. I feel from reading the whole article and paying attention to some of Kat’s other interviews, she’s not saying she wasn’t trying to win because she didn’t want to. It seems pretty clear to me that she was such a nervous wreck from week to week she couldn’t really even focus on winning all she could try to do was try to survive each and every week without having a nervous breakdown. Again it’s just a matter of interpretation and I happen to like her. So it seems strange to me that one would question Ray’s interpretation of the interview because it’s how he viewed it, it’s not any less right than how anyone else saw it.

Thanks Ray for the update on the Today show segment, it’s nice to get both sides of the coin. I’m guessing I’ll view it similar to how you did. But thanks to all for sharing their opinions for those us who are stuck at work! I’ll be anxious to get home and see it for myself.

I adore Bucky but I havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t seen one negative comment about his behavior on the LKL show where he was laughing at William Hung.

Keg, I saw that on LKL but Bucky does not have a reputation that precedes him. He is known as a sweet, gentle soul. I think that we all laugh at Hung cause as we laugh he’s laughing all the way to the bank. Its a little different. Its not like he’s a nobody. He made it big on Idol so the laughing doesnt hurt him Im thinking. He’s making money off our snark.

Hey, I’m not snarking on Kat. From what I’ve seen on interviews, I DON’T LIKE HER. Not personally, since I don’t know her, but what I’ve seen of her on TV pisses me the hell off.

Just as I may interpret things negatively, her fans may spin things positively because they like her.

I haven’t seen her Today show interview, but I am fairminded and I will give her the benefit of the doubt until I do.

I don’t follow Bucky, so I had no idea about the LKL thing. If that’s the case, then I respect the others more for not laughing.

And Taylor’s Six Flags comment? Sorry, but that was funny. Because we all know Paula is up and down. If Kat said something like that, I would laugh, too.

  • db

Right, so this is a bit of a drive-by post because I’m in a rush to get to work.

Re: This Chris Sligh fellow…I’d like to get someone else’s opinion on this. Sligh reminds me of the lead singer of a Christian group called MercyMe, and for me that equates with bland. However, I haven’t had a chance to actually listen to one after the other and I also need to give Sligh’s audition another listen. However, he gets major kudos for the Hoff comment. He’s got a great personality and if he’s been following AI for a while, taking a play from Taylor’s play book (“Fro Patrol!”) is a smart thing to do.

  • NippyG

Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t worry about it too much. This place is snark city.

But, you know, there’s something to be said for that.

I’ve come here from a couple of other sites where Blind Devotion runs rampant. Heaven forbid you should have a negative thought or comment or a concern re a decision made by TPTB…

As much as I have a profound admiration and respect for my “idol”, I just cannot face a constant stream of praise and acclaim for EVERYTHING and the inability to question ANYTHING re said idol.

I so appreciate the opportunity to vent that is afforded here, re both those I um…am not so fond… as well as those that I AM.

As MJ and others have said, puppies and butterflies need not apply.

    Thank goodness…

  • jpfan

“Taylor gets snarked on as much as the next idol plus by his own.”
Not here he doesn’t because majority of posters here are his fans. Too bad there wasn’t more Taylor snark before the album debut because fans would have been prepared for its so far not outstanding sales. The Kat and Chris personal snark can get really weird. My favorite was “Can Chris afford a 600,000 house?” LOL. Who know what these people are like really anyway? You’re mostly seeing a public persona.

Is there a link to the Today show? I’d like to see the interview (not the performance please.) I’m incredibly sick of her song. Boring as hell. She must have better songs than that on the album. So far, Season 6 is just NO FUN.

Ray, its the high price of stardom and fame. All we have to go on are her words spoken on interviews and in the media. If she comes across like an immature diva to me thats cause its how she seems to go out of her way to portray herself.

Having said that, she will do quite well on the radio and you will get to hear her music a lot. She’s a beauty. She is very lucky she has that to work with. They took Taylor to the woodshed for his supposed comments on Idol “fizzling out”. Remember?

  • Lisa B
  • pj

It was pretty awkward when Bucky laughed at William Hung. But the difference is:

    a) William Hung actually does suck and has cashed in on his suckage
    b) It was funny and not done out of malice on Bucky’s part
    c) Bucky has a track record of being one of the nicest, most easy-going contestents.

No one is perfect %100 of the time. I cut Bucky some slack.

I haven’t see the Kat interview, but she suffers from foot and mouth disease.

JP, i had to smile at this. Holy shit, I, for ONE, have kicked my boy around pretty good when I think he sucked and I didnt DARE venture into GC’s place cause I knew Id have been flogged. I have dissed him (all in good fun over at VFTW many weeks ago) and I have been called a traitor. It doesnt change a damn thing. I bought a freakin’ Go Phone for him, I bought 3 DIMYP CD’s, I let a fucking Pop Tart follow me around at the AI Concert where I spent an exhorbitant amount of money to get PRIMO seats. I waited for 5 fucking hours at a rib joint when I heard the Idols would be there only to find out Taylor would be in NYC. I bought 2 of his recent CD’s, a fucking SP T shirt not to mention the amount of time I spent voting and texting for him.

My point? I may be Taylor’s biggest fan but I’ll call him out when I think he has not done his best. Thing is, he usually gives me his all and then some. He makes me smile, he can make me weep. I love Taylor and I dont care if he lets me down every so often. He is a human being and he’s my guy. I got his back.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Kat, I am particularly interested in your reaction to Katharineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s interview because although you donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like her, I really believe that you try to be as objective as you can be, and I respect that.

aj, thanks. I appreciate that. Snarking is all in good fun and no, Kat doesn’t come off as a nice person to me, but that’s just a perception. If I met her in the street I would be kind to her and treat her just like anyone else. I’m sure I’d walk away thinking she was very nice.

Ooh, the interview is up. Unfortunately I’m in tax class right now and then lunch and then adv. trial skills…I won’t be able to watch this until 3 PM EST!

  • tinawina

Ray, I saw the Today Show interview this morning. I don’t hate Kat at all, but even I shook my head when she started talking about Chris Sligh. I even said to my husband… “Man, that girl just does NOT know how to give an interview”. He agreed with me that she was not the most diplomatic person in the world. So I don’t know if it’s fair to say there was nothing wrong with her comments… it’s possible to think she did come off a little snarky, even if you don’t hate her.

On the other hand, the “Over it” thing was more of a running joke between her and Meredith. She wasn’t trying to be flip about bulemia in my opinion. But that’s just me.

  • Lisa B

TV must think we’re dumb or something

Curse you, William Hung: The return of “American Idol” has reminded us just how truly awful many of the hopefuls are. Just look at the outlandish outfits they’re wearing, “Idol” folks, and you have to know they’re not serious. They’re not fooling you, and you’re not fooling us, so save us a few hours of viewing next season, OK?

I will give Kat credit for one thing. Her “Over It” and “Open Toes” sure are catchy and stick in your head. Then again, so does the chorus of “I Shot the Sheriff.” Doesn’t make it a good song. But I guess the goal is to get those who like it to buy it because they like it, and those who don’t like it to buy it, hoping that listening to the song will cancel it out of your head. ;-)

  • jpfan

Dingo, You’re the most honest Taylor fan of them all. You criticized his CD when people were measuring him for the Grammy suit. Kat’s interview. Nothing horrible, just very awkward. She’s not smooth in the interviews and come across as immature. It will neither end her career nor make people like her more. Neither she or Taylor do well in interviews. Taylor is more likeable and articulate but a little dull. Please Today show, interview Bucky.

  • Metta

Lisa B ~ Thanks for the link to the interview.

    Kat (on Chris Sligh):

He’s got the goofy hair and the goofy glasses and maybe people will get behind that.

    Kat (on the AI judges):

My personal opinion is You don’t have to go into physical appearances and make fun of somebody the way they look.

I’m more into the actual music.

    Contradiction?

And should I mention Meatloaf? Nah, that would be overkill.

    *** sux.

  • jersey

OK – I just watched Kat’s interview. I didn’t think there was anything horrible about it. I do think she contradicted herself when her first reaction to Chris Sligh was all about his looks and then later in the interview she comments that the judges shouldn’t criticize contestants based on their looks.
The only other thing that bothered me was, what I perceived to be a somewhat flip attitude about the bulimia thing, however I think she spoke better about it afterwards.
My only other comment would be to wonder if the press is going to have the same reaction to Kat singing she’s “over it” when asked about American Idol, as they did to Taylor saying that it is “fizzling out” for him. I doubt it.

And for the record, in case people haven’t been paying attn, Dingo is not the only Taylor fan who has criticized his CD or his performances.

Lastly, Taylor is an excellent interviewee. He is classy and often quite funny and charming. Jay Leno, the #1 late night show, has had him on three times–twice on the couch. If he was a dud, that would not have happened. Sawry!

O.K. I’m going to weigh in on the Kat interview. She does come off as a little giggly and immature and definitely contradicts herself.

What really bothers me (and has for a while) is the way she handles the bulimia thing. She was the one that decided to bring this public in the first place. To now treat it as if it was a little “inconvenient problem” to me is not an inspiration to anyone suffering from this type of disease or any other addiction. Having people close to me suffer from some of these disorders, it has been my experience that you don’t just decide to go to outpatient therapy (after winning a talent contest) and miraculously “get cured” and “get over it” in the amount of time allotted before said contest starts. If she didn’t make the finals on Idol, would she have continued on in the throes of the disease since she didn’t “have a goal”? One of the biggest obstacles to overcome with these disorders is DENIAL and part of denial is to minimalize the problem and the denial and minimalization often leads to the relapse. She’s got the terminology down, but I really don’t think she has grasped an understanding of the disease. I’m not saying that she should be revealing her inner thoughts and dwelling on the hardships. I just feel that she should treat it much more seriously. It is a frikking life threatening disease. Brushing it off this way in my opinion is just not the right message to other young people suffering from it.

It’s kind of like Lindsay Lohan checked into rehab, but then I read in the paper yesterday that she was allowed to leave the facility to go clothes shopping. And we’re supposed to think that this rehab thing is serious to these people?

O.K., I’ll get off my soapbox. I do with Ms. McPhee all the best for the future.

    Alrighty,

I watched the interview, now I am going to admit, I don’t care for Kat at all, but I try to be kind because I honestly believe that thegirl has deep seeded issues, but my impression was the same as every time I hear her speak……if you don’t have something nice to say, don’t say it at all…and even more so….if you say something negative about somebody and then realize maybe it wasnt the right thing to say, completely contradicting the sentence you just said makes you look lika an A$$ even moreso….so Kat only has herself to blame…she has what I call..the not thinking before you speak problem..I am sorry Kat fans, it is true…while she may regret what she said later, the point is, it was already said…and you lie in the bed you make for yourself I try to give her some credit, but I can’t I try to like her but I just don’t…granted she is goregous, and has a wonderful voice…but that don’t mean shit if you are ugly inside….again, I apologize, but I call em as I see em….
    thanks for reading :)

  • thedingoateyobaby

Lastly, Taylor is an excellent interviewee. He is classy and often quite funny and charming.

Metta, seriously now. I think it depends on WHO is doing the interview. If he feels safe and relaxed and knows the interviewer wont try and blindside him, I think Taylor can be very good and funny at times but if he thinks (as he usually, and rightly so does) that the interviewer is trying to trip him up, then he plays it very close to the vest and tends to be boring. Course for ME, he’s so gorgeous he neednt say a word but for the average viewer, I think he comes off as boring.

Yeah, I guess it is okay for Kat to insult people if ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s true. I mean, thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s this girl in my tax class whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s incredibly fat, I mean grossly overweight, not a very pretty face, and dresses hideously. I think next time I see her, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m going to tell her that sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fat and ugly. I mean, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m much prettier than her, so I should be able to get away with it.

Well said Kat.. Unfortunately, it seems as if the media has said it’s okay for people with some looks to put down those who may not be as appealing. Thank you Simon…

Ray, we understand that Kat is your favorite but it’s sad when you decide to give her the benefit of the doubt, she shows you that your first impression of her was on the mark.

The problem I have with Kat is, she appears to say whatever the media wants to hear without thinking. Just a little thought to your response will go far. She is on camera. Her answer to the underdog question could have been backed up with “but America also votes for Talent.”.Is she trying to say that Carrie, Ruben, Fantasia and Kelly all won because of sympathy votes…

  • madaboutu

Good morning……….I didn’t see the Kat interview, luckily, so can’t comment on it, but did see her on Leno, where she was obviously nervous. Also, there was a 10 inch pic in the Times yesterday, accompanied by two columns on the next page. She can’t say she isn’t getting covered in L.A. The others got two paragraphs if lucky. But, I woke up to the entertainment part of channel 5 news, where four people were discussing and showing clips of auditions on AI. They also started talking about past Idols and one guy mentioned that Taylor Hicks has been doing absolutely nothing. Poor Taylor……..all those appearances went for naught it seems, and the lazy lout has been sitting on his butt since his crowning. Its hearing things like that which lead me to believe no one who talks about Taylor ever watches TV, or bothers to check into what he may have been doing.

  • jadore

Chris Sligh. If that really was him, he is a very smart person. He is already trying to establish relationships with fans. He posted Go Fro Patrol!!!

it is a long link but it takes you to *** performance on Today. Much better than Leno…and I dislike the song.

My take, (I am not a *** fan at all)
She was less awkward than I have seen her in the past. Her biggest problem is that she doesn’t thinks before she speaks. Having said that I don’t think if you take the interview in its totality it was all that bad. Mostly she comes off, as many have said before, as immature.

I think what is most noticable with most of her interviews is that she appears to have a pretty low opinion of Taylor because she can’t seem to spit out anything complimentary, even if she isn’t the one who is snarking on him she doesn’t defend or support him either.

Lastly, why I think *** rubs alot of people the wrong way is her body language. It contradicts what her words say sometimes or it sometimes reinforces words, that if read in isolation, don’t seem so bad but add her body language to them and they take on a new meaning.

WhatdIsay , that writer must be getting his/her talking points from AI because I did not see anything scary about the people from the South. Nor did I see any real hillbillies. Except for a couple of people who you saw was clearly props trying to get their 15 minutes of fame, I would say last night’s show was the most subdued of the two weeks. OK..reading over the post on the Kat drama here I realized why I don’t get the snark. See, someone said Taylor gets alot of snark here also…Well, I don’t think about Taylor much or focus on every single thing he does because I just don’t care for him and don’t bother even to center or give my attention to him in interviews, music.talk shows, etc…it just kinda goes over my head cause I don’t care for him at all…AND thats where ,as a person I mentally run into a road block you might say! My mind goes…”why are people who don’t care for Kat (or any other idol)spending time watching/commenting on her every move?”…..I guess I am really a weirdo guy cause I don’t even try and read, watch,or spend time listening to an artist I have no interest in…I mean I just don’t need to go there so as a human being it makes me wonder why other people “like, enjoy, and seem to delight” in conversation of someone they dislike so much….I know, I know-you got your “right” to free speech, etc, etc….I guess I am a simple man…where I grew up in the South-they called it plain ole “gossip” and “trashing” someone and it was frowned upon but these days it seems “hip”???……just saying- so you folks might get a “glimpse” into why I make some of my comments.:)

    LBB,

I think we got a give-away from Nigel (or one of the other PTB) when he said there would be a couple of “quirky” contestants like Taylor and Elliott…

I think it’s easy to infer that “quirky” = not Hollywood prettyboys. Both these guys (Sundance and Chris Sligh) are different and interesting and non-mainstream as well as being talented. I would expect they will make the top 24 just because of that, because they are good for ratings.

Now, whether the PTB want one of them to win is another story altogether. I’m guessing that if UNITS are the ultimate interest at the end of the day, the pimp-ee will be a more mainstream contestant.

Anyway, I’m not watching (yet, anyway… must. resist) but I am following. So far, Sundance and Chris Sligh sound like my kind of contenders. I’ll be really interested to see what kind of music they make when the season is done, whether they make it to the top 12 or win, or not. If I do break my resolve and watch after Hollywood, I won’t vote. It’s exhausting to get emotionally invested only to feel “used” by the PTB (I know. Self-inflicted wound) – not to mention expensive.

Here’s the deal: Anybody who has hung out here any length of time knows what the deal is. And that particular deal is not going to change. I say this continually–if the tone of the blog bugs you DON’T READ.

Honestly, there are more message boards and blogs that are strictly and diligently patrolled by the Postivity Police than not. So it’s a big big world out there in Idoland, if you don’t like it here, look for something that does not offend your tender sensiblities.

Please stop complaining about the tone and the posters here. It is what it is, and it’s not going to change.

So, now. Let’s get back to discussing the Idols.

I have noticed that the snark on Taylor by his fans is done in a good-natured way, and that snark on him by his fans is usually not mean-spirited or over the top. JMHO

Sorry, Ray, but you talk about other Idols as well, particulary Taylor. I think it just stings when folks don’t like who you like.

Nothing wrong with here, but it may not be the best fit for you.

I’m not saying you should leave or anything. It’s your right to stay and I like you. But you routinely complain about it here and it’s not going to change. So either accept it or move on. I can’t see spending time at a place you aren’t happy with. This is for entertainment, and if you aren’t being entertained, where’s the fun in that?

With respect to classifications of snark, I have to say that the really fine term “snark” (probably derived from “snide remark”) has been bastardized to mean any sort of negative comments. Sort of a pity. There are plenty of posters who can dish out the criticism, but only a few can really snark and they deserve some credit.

Cam…………..I just sent a complete list of Taylors appearances to the Channel 5 guy, Sam Rubin, so that they would not think Taylor has been sitting on his laurels so to speak. Not even show biz folks know what he is doing, obviously, so there are alot of ordinary fans who don’t either…. unless they get on the internet and get wacky like me! :lol_ee: Anyway, they also mentioned Ruben Studdard, but Ruben didn’t get half the gigs Taylor did I don’t think, after Idol.

if paula really goes, there may be more to the story, like maybe she does have an illness, like some people have suggested. anyway, i hope she is doing okay.

courtney love when not high is pretty g-rated. i don’t think there would be a problem with the family viewing atmosphere. she just wrote a book about getting sober and seems to be doing well. i’ve seen her in interviews; she’s articulate, funny and yeah, even sweet, when straight.

the whole thing may be just a rumor anyway.

Hey guys, how about we make suggestions of who we would like to see replace Paula. I would like to see a woman who has been in the business for some time, knows her stuff and is not afraid to be honest and give constructive criticism. I know we’ll come up with better ones but I’ll start with Stevie Nicks, Carole King, and don’t laugh Dolly Parton.

I’ve been in Colorado for a few days so missed everything since last Thursday. Missed the show last night, so I’ve no idea about this Sligh guy. I did click on MJ’s Leno link to see/hear Kat sing her song. About halfway through, I started reading the MJ notice above her link. Then I clicked into it to read the comments. Clicking to read the comments ended the video. That’s when I remembered the video was playing. It was right in front of me, and I was watching & listening, and then got drawn into reading. I totally forgot it was playing while the music was pouring into my ears. So….I guess it’s not my style of song.

  • shar

Little Debbi, I think Kat should replace Paula. That way when she says mean, shallow things nobody will care, it’s all part of the job.

  • Abilymom

It seems they want someone with the potential of public inebriation to fill in for Paula.

    Is Foster Brooks still alive?

  • http://inkdbylilyanna.com carolina

Just watched Kat on The Today Show.

Her biggest problem? She just doesn’t know when to keep her mouth shut. She obviously likes to hear herself talk and consequently keeps putting her foot where it doesn’t belong.

In interviews, she consistently says she doesn’t want to say something “mean” — has said that in many interviews, so the host poo poo’s that and gives her permission to say whatever she wants, which is usually something negative.

Singing she’s “over it” re: buliminia. Dear God, save Kat from herself.

Lastly, she talked about not judging people by their physical appearance — errrrr, then proceeds to trash Chris Sligh’s appearance.

    Own worst enemy.

Oh – Little Debbi – I think Dolly Parton would be a wonderful replacement judge for Paula and I can just imagine the interchanges between her and Simon. LOL. She is a great lady who has fabulous business expertise and a vast knowledge of the entertainment industry – one who has cultivated her assets and yet remained true to her self. I would love to see her on the show even if just a guest judge! Perhaps on country theme week.

On the Sligh nickname, on his blog he mentioned ‘Slighdol’ which was pretty catchy but I don’t remember if it was his own invention or what. I think the spoilers definitely have him and Sundance Head in the finals and it should be interesting for sure.

And about the notion that Birmingham had hillbilly hicks characterizing the region – what about the princess Ian in NYC who definitely is a type we would associate with NY (or San Francisco). Sheesh – writers are pulling from the bottom of the barrel with that notion. IMO.

As I have said before – my main hope is that THIS TIME, the AI shows will actually show footage of all of the eventual final 24 instead of mystery people showing up to be voted upon – ie Melissa McGhee and Patrick Hall. So unfair. And since there is obviously time before the Hollywood shows air after the 24 are selected – there would be time for editing to allow a fair amount of coverage of those that had been less drama oriented. IMHO.

THIS IS A PUBLIC SERVICE INFORMATION FOR THE SOUL PATROL.

How to help get Taylor’s Single to Satellite Radio.

    If you aren’t a member, please skip…

    ————————————-

There are two Satellite Radio Services in the country — XM SATELLITE RADIO and SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO.

They have a combined customer base of over 3 million listeners.

Here is a link to make a request on Sirius Radio

    Sirius Hits 1:

    http://www.sirius.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Sirius/Channel/RequestASong&cid=1104779633133

XM Satellite Radio : They run a unique countdown, several times per day, so the most requested songs get much more exposure.

    http://www.xmfan.com/guide.php?q=1-866-909-4GMA&mode=title

CLICK ON REQUEST A SONG at the top of the webpage.

More info about XM Satellite Radio Top 20 countdowns ….

The countdowns are about every 3 hours (12, 3, 6, etc.) Eastern and Pacific Time.

On the web site, you can vote, by selecting up to 5 of your favorites from a list. There is no limit on how many times you can vote, but you must wait five minutes between each vote. Taylor is not yet on the list. (I think you might have to make the countdown, by phone votes, to get on the online list, but I could be wrong.)

You can still vote for him, by phone without annoying any DJ !
Between countdowns, they play songs which seem to be those that appeared on previous countdowns.

If we could get JTFTW on here, it would bring some major exposure.

“XM Radio is a satellite radio provider that has recently embraced some of the tenets of Product Development 2.0. Compellingly, the Top 20 on 20 channel is one of the most popular channels XM has yet created. Why? Because control of it has been entirely handed over to its users. Says the Wikipedia entry on Top 20 on 20: “The channel plays everything new from rock to rap, with the songs chosen by online votes to the XM website. One can also vote their favorite songs by calling the station number, or text messaging. The channel is completely automated by listener voting with no DJ interruption. Top 20 on 20 is also one of the most popular music channels on XM. According to XM’s internal research, the channel achieves 1.8 million listeners a week.”

NOTE: There are songs being played, on the countdowns, which have not yet been officially released to radio.

They also have a number you can call : 1-866-553-2020 for Top 20 on 20

I know a lot of people here hate requesting songs because of the whole cheesey talking-to-DJs ordeal you, often, have to go through.

When you vote, by phone, it seems it’s all done via a voice mail system. You don’t even have to talk to anyone! You just leave a message with the artist and song title.

AND you don’t have to have an XM radio to vote!

    Exposure…exposure..exposure.

At least 1.8 million potentially record-buying music listeners ( those tuned it at that time ) are tuned in !

Just get 10% of that and you have 180,000 units.

    LET’s GO !! TAKE ACTION !

Interesting AP article out about Chris that LisaB put up. Chris wants longevity and either being playing for 20 years like U2 or Bon Jovi or producing and developing other bands in the future if he isn’t playing.

I hope he can reach that goal.

I am a HUGE fan of U2 which is my favorite rock band of all time. I became of fan of theirs in the early 80′s in their “I Will Follow” days. I would never have thought they would still be here 25 years later. I hope the same for Chris.

Some pictures and info about The BEACON theater:

    http://www.beacontheater.net/

    In part it says:

    Beacon Theater New York
Designed by Chicago architect Walter W. Ahlschlager and opened in 1928, the 2,800-seat Beacon Theatre is a fantastic Art Deco treasure, built as silent pictures began talking and as vaudeville capitulated to the movie palace era. Recognized as a national landmark — the interior remains legally protected from alteration and demolition — the three-level auditorium is distinguished by 30-foot statues of Greek women on each side of the proscenium arch. Other features include an open-air lobby, bronze front doors, ornate moldings, white marble floors, and corridor murals depicting elephants, camels and traders.

Today, the Beacons chief reputation is as a fierce concert house where, amid a curtain-less stage and flawless acoustics, Patti LaBelle, Korn, Tina Turner, Morrissey, VH-1s ‘Divas Live’ have done their thing.

Cutting-edge hardcore bands, gospel singers and world music superstars rock the town here as well. The Beacon also often houses popular comedies geared toward African- American audiences, making it the favored Gotham stop along the Chitlin Circuit.

    RE: Chris Sligh

I was expecting Sligh to be another “AI audition goofball” after watching his intro. But, after listening to him though and checking out his blog (which will likely be shut down soon), I see that the guy is a *real singer*, as well as an insightful guy with astute musical taste.

One of the few contestants for me this year that interested me beyond the singing ( reminded me of another young guy with gray hair last season ).

Sligh did what Taylor Hicks did last year — made a good first impression on AI viewers with not only his voice but unique personality/looks. The Hasselhoff joke was brilliant and he set himself up as someone who might just be good for a laugh or two but sings awful, when all along he knew he could sing. That was the “surprise” factor.

Some interesting tidbits from Chris Sligh’s blog ( sent to me by a friend… I believe the blog might be closed down if he gets as far as the rumors say he has ) :

    * Has performed and fronted a band for a few years on the regional/college circuit;

    * Is a proud and committed Christian and doesn’t think that is mutually exclusive from rock-n-roller ( went to Bob Jones University ).

    * Would like his AI fans to be called the Fro’ Patro’ (a nod to Taylor’s followers).

A lot to like about this guy. We’ll see how far his singing and performing can take him. He definitely has the personality to win over America. Funny and intelligent too. Could be this year’s Taylor Hicks – career barbander who wins over the voters by sheer force of will, personality and uniqueness ?

And note : America loves funny chubby guys. John Candy, John Belushi, Chris Farley, Jackie Gleason, etc.

If you believe in the adage : “DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER”, here’s the guy to gravitate to.

    Some strange thoughts :

For those of you who are into Affirmative Action and are into conspircay theories…. consider this :

speaking of quotas, here’s the breakdown for the first five years:

    1 – Kelly – white female
    2 – Ruben – black male
    3 – Fantasia – black female
    4 – Carrie – white female
    5 – Taylor – white male

If the conspircay theory holds up, it will be a black female this year…though I do like Sligh!!!

  • JJ

If the conspircay theory holds up, it will be a black female this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦though I do like Sligh!!!

Or a while male, GO CHRIS!!! I can’t believe I just said that.

Interesting AP article out about Chris that LisaB put up. Chris wants longevity and either being playing for 20 years like U2 or Bon Jovi or producing and developing other bands in the future if he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t playing.

I hope he can reach that goal.

I am a HUGE fan of U2 which is my favorite rock band of all time. I became of fan of theirs in the early 80à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s in their à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I Will Followà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ days. I would never have thought they would still be here 25 years later. I hope the same for Chris.

    ******

What a pompous ass to even put himself in the same category
as U2 or Bon Jovi. Sheesh! In 20 years, Chris will probably
take the money he earned for this CD and purchase his own auto
    parts store in NC.

  • PamsterAtl

LBoyblue – It appears to me that in order to keep the quota or ‘balance’, it would have to be another black male – and one that is a ‘looker’ (no offense to Ruben) but a heart throb.

There have been several good black male singers in the past seasons that have made good (ie George Huff) but this may be the year for one to actually win.

Okay two other thoughts: 1. I agree that they should have put Nicole(?) thru – lot better than the living w/grandma taking care of paralyzed daddy who shot himself after shooting step-mom singer, for sure. But perhaps because she is young, they thought to give her time to mature and perhaps take lessons to improve her natural talents. They did suggest she come back next year.

    2. Good pictures of Elliott at Rickeys site. Sigh. I have to admit I like his look now – but have thought he was sexy ever since he was in the top 6. Personally I think his new teeth are a bit much – but hey – he deserved his new image. And – cannot wait for his album!!!! Here is the link. Sigh.

OMG! I would LOVE to get to see Taylor at the Beacon! Much less difficulty in getting there than Westbury too. I am so THRILLED for him! Can you imagine how he must be feeling being able to play places like the Beacon and the Filmore? He must be pinching himself!

RE: Tatiana McConnico of Austele, GA.

She’s the 17 year old who nailed Aretha’s song.

She was my second favorite of the night.

But I’ll tell you why she ain’t gonna win folks.

THE FACTOR THAT MAKES YOU STAND OUT IS — MEMORABILITY.

She reminds us too much of Vonzell Solomon ( season 4) and Trenyce ( Season 2 ). Too many of them already. Consider her a filler. You heard it here first.

How about Brandon Rogers? I believe he auditioned in LA, so you may see him tonight. Supposedly he’s a good-looking black r&b singer – so maybe a possibility if Pamster is right. And there’s back-up singer gal if it’s a black female as LBB speculates.

    Little Boy Blue,
Thanks so much for the posting the satellite radio links! As an XM customer (thru satellite tv), you just paved the way for many of us. Everyday I come home and Daughtry is playing, which is OK, but soon, it’ll be Taylor everyday.

Chris wants longevity and either being playing for 20 years like U2 or Bon Jovi or producing and developing other bands in the future if he isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t playing.

I think Daughtry’s voice is very good and his cd hit at a time when the market for this style of rock is wildly popular. I give him props. But, time will tell…I just don’t think he can sustain success for that period of time singing Nickelback type stuff. His next CD will be very telling. For the record, I think he outsings the hell out of Chad Kroeger.

And just wanted to say, so happy to learn Taylor is playing the Beacon!!! What an honor for him to play at this prestigious venue. Congrats in advance to everyone planning on attending. :smile_wp:

JJ, and other Beacon enthusiasts. I just called American Express and they do not show Taylor at the Beacon yet. However, she told me that they will be doing their update tomorrow and I should call back. Basically, this is not for every show at the Beacon, just some. However, if Taylor’s show is listed there, you get VIP seating. I will keep you guys posted either way.

Also, I don’t think the Allman Brothers are there on the 20th. They do a ridiculously long run there every year and as far as I can tell it’s from 3/22 – 4/7. I have a feeling our guy might be on his own.

  • PamsterAtl

LBB – I agree about Tatiana. She didn’t stand out in my mind and being young – she will probably not work her way thru the rounds as well as the older contestants. When you said memorability I immediately thought of Lisa Tucker who was adorable, experienced, gorgeous as well as talented – and yet – we kept forgetting she was even in the contest. So unless this young girl is able to break out and make the judges sit up and notice and then the voting public – she won’t make it on her talent alone. I didn’t see her name on the spoiler list – anywhere.

Oh – as for black male – Jenry would be a fine fit too – but I don’t think he made it thru the Hollywood rounds.

  • JJ

I would like to point one other thing out for non-NY’ers. Taylor is not playing a NY venue, he is playing THE NY venue.

Norah Nears 350k Mark, With McPhee at 100k, Celtic Women Up Next

    January 31, 2007

It took a month, but things are picking up out there in record retail land.
Letà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s just hope ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Not Too Late. Which just happens to be the name of Norah Jonesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ eagerly awaited third album for Blue Note, and it hasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t come a moment too soon… not just for EMI, but for the entire business. Based on one-day sales from retailers still solvent around the country indicate the album could go as high as 350k, and maybe even higher considering ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s an upper-demo title. The disc had already broken the pre-order sales record at Amazon.com with between 35-40k.

Hopefully, the 1-2-3 punch of the next two weeks, including the release of IDJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new Fall Out Boy album, Infinity on High, on Feb. 6, the Grammys on Feb. 11 and Valentineà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Day on Feb. 14 will kick-start the beleaguered biz.

American Idol album Katharine McPheeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s self-titled RCA debut is on target for 100k and a probable #2 finish to Jones, with plenty of TV exposure, including a stint on the popular TV Ugly Betty.

Take this from a Taylor fan who IS NOT a fan of Daughtry’s type of music ( I can take only so much decibels ).

But I like Chris, I believe he’s a good man and he loves his wife and kids — great American Family values.

Regarding his ambition of longevity — WHY NOT ?

We all EVOLVE and DEVELOP in our careers. He can too.

Rod Stewart has morphed his style so many times I can’t even count and look at him today at age 65 — he’s still making hits !! And grabbing us by the b**lls ( is that going to be allowed :)

The Beatles moved from the early 60′s SHE LOVES YOU YEAH YEAH YEAH sound to the more serious Eleanor Rigby, Revolution and Let It Be sound of the late 60′s and 70′s.

So, if these folks can EVOLVE, So can Daughtry. Give this guy the benfit of the doubt.

It is a great cd. My mom, oldest daughter and I saw them live back in October in Poplar Bluff, MO. They are even better live. Great harmonies. Along with their own stuff they did a couple Eagles and Fleetwood Mac covers.

I think Bob Dylan isn’t the best singer either. Nuff said. Point is you don’t have to be the best singer – all you just have to win the heart of America and you have it made in the shade. And that’s exactly what Taylor did. Simon can eat shit with the rest of the naysayers out there. Time will prove them ALL wrong – mark my words.

  • JustSomeGuy

Finally saw Kat’s performance of ‘Over It’ from the Today show and it was heads and shoulders above the version on Leno.
The background singers were just that, in the background and Kat’s vocals were more up front. She was relaxed and expressive. Think I like this version of ‘Over It’ better than the one on the CD because there was less production.
Loved what she was wearing, totally understated(blue jeans and a baggy shirt), so finally the focus was on the music and on this day Kat and her band, sounded great.
Hey, even the McPhemes were applauding.

    RE: Simon’s re-remark ( not a typo )

I think he was the most popular, and at the end of the day, record sales will prove me right or prove me wrong,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

The man still thinks that record sales are the be-all and end-all of being a “good” singer.

Now you know how the guy judges singers — it’s in terms of how many record he/she will potentially sell.

Why not just allow guys like Young Jeezy or Pretty Ricky into the contest ? There’s record sales for you.

Well, ‘scuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuse me, Simon, but where does it say in the dictionary that “idol” means best singer? And when you put the word “American” in front of it, it means that if America is voting for their favorite idol, then “idol” to “America” is whatever America wants it to mean. Favorite singer or dancer or performer or entertainer…..Favorite..PERIOD! It’s AMERICA’s IDOL, dolt! If it’s supposed to be “best” anything, then perhaps the name of the show should be changed to “America’s Best Singer” and have credible judges decide.

It’s not surprising to me that Simon would say something like that. But the notion of who the “best” singer is is incredibly subjective. American Idol, theoretically, can measure who the best singer is on a particular NIGHT. But best in total? Nah. Everyone’s got their different definition of “the best.” For someone, it might be technical merits only; for others, it’s emotion and passion. Some like a little grit; others like a clean, polished vocal. Some like sopranos, others altos, tenors or basses.

It is sad, however, to think that Simon truly believes that record sales are a measure of someone’s talent, and I’d love to see a journalist call him on that one day. However, since there are no real journalists on shows like ET, Extra or Access Hollywood, it’ll never happen.

So let me get this straight: A Taylor fan who dislikes his CD and expresses that is more honest than a Taylor fan who likes his CD and expresses that. Huh? And for the record, in case people havenà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t been paying attn, Dingo is not the only Taylor fan who has criticized his CD or his performances.

What’s curious is that this criteria for fan “honesty” doesn’t appear to apply to the fans of other Idols.

Little Debbi!! I love Sam Cooke but I gotta tell ya, I LOVE Eric Burdon’s voice more and the early Animals was awesome. NO! I missed Eric on PBS dammit. I need to know this shit! I LOVE that voice. Again, its raspy, smoky, ragged and edgy. LOVE The Animals and Eric Burdon is da bomb.

    Thanks Debbi.

Well I am sure glad that with all his pimping that Simon can’t always ultimately influence the AI winner! I thought he was the one who used to always say America always gets it right!

Regarding the Beacon, congrats to Taylor and all his fans, this sounds like truly a great honor!

Hi, li’l deb, there is really no way everyone is ever going to like the way the AI is chosen, no matter what, and unless “their” favorite won, there will always be those that say the wrong person won.

The right one does win every year if we believe that America’s vote counts. I hate hearing “America got it wrong.”!

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I still say Taylor Hicks was not the best singer on American Idol 5. I think he was the most popular, and at the end of the day, record sales will prove me right or prove me wrong,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

Well, then, I guess Michael Jackson is the best singer in the world in like…ever…since he moved 100 million units of Thriller. The next best only sold in the neighborhood of 40 million. Sorry all you Opera dudes…you can’t sing.

And, the Beatles single with the highest sales in the US was “I Want To Hold Your Hand” so that must be the best song they ever wrote.

BTW “The Chipmunk Song” and “The Macarena” each sold over 4 million units, so think about how bad those songs must have been that sold less than that.

Don’t fret now. I wouldn’t think of going anywhere without you!!! That date doesn’t look good for me right now, though.

I had forgotten about Tom Lowes – the Brit who had been in the boy band. Anyone else consider him a possible favorite based on his voice? I didn’t remember him until I saw his audition again on Rickey site — but his name is on the ‘list’ of making it far into the competition. I wonder if being British will hurt his chances. I also like Rudy who is from Venezula — wonder if that will work in his favor or not. He’d be the Latino who could upset the quota! We have to wonder whether American Idol will be an American or just someone living in America. Not that it matters to me – but it makes me wonder if it will matter to the voting public.

  • Lisa B

Which is exactly the sort of music that has helped Simon make his money.

    Teletubbies anyone?

…Bad fortune struck yet again, and when its mother company folded, Fanfare went bankrupt in 1989, leaving Cowell deeply in debt and forcing him, at 30, to move back home with his parents. Later that year, he became an A&R consultant for BMG. Subsequently, Cowell signed a number of acts to S Records that made a mark in the pop music world, including Curiosity Killed the Cat, Sonia, 5ive, record-setting UK chart-toppers Westlife, and surprise actors-turned-singers Robson & Jerome. He also released several novelty recordings featuring the likes of wrestlers of the World Wrestling Federation, Zig and Zag and the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, that were huge successes…

    American Idol’s Angry Simon

Who do you love to hate more than any other television tyrant? It could only be American Idol’s angry Simon Cowell. Why is an English angryman (angry Englishman, your choice) picking our American Idol anyway? Why does a brassy British boy want to tell us what to like?!………
…….AngrySimon.com is all about serving Simon a dish of his own design. If he can judge us on our singing on American Idol, we can judge him on his judging! Join us in taking a shot back at the man America loves to hate, Simon Cowell.

Also the brother, Sanjara Malakar is on the list. He would be someone different to the ‘quota’.

It doesn’t matter to me if AI winner is an American citizen or not – but to me there is a difference between being an immigrant to USA (or son of immigrants) and someone just living here on a visa …. in other words… will Tom Lowe return to UK after he wins AI or gets fame from it? or is USA his ‘home’ now? Hmmmmm. For those of you from outside US, this is not a slight to you – just curious if voting will reflect ‘MADE IN USA’ like the Ford commercial or foreign imports!!!

Outta here – ATL traffic. We’re expecting ‘winter mix’ before morning so we could have an Atlantan snow day. (Which means no school but everyone gets to work when the ice finally melts.) Bizarre but true. No moves in the South when it freezes over. Not really snowed in – but we will stay in and off the streets. My first winter storm here I learned that it doesn’t matter if I know how to drive in it (being from Chicago) – chances are, nobody on the road with you will be able to avoid you. Also – not the usual sand or salt – so – if it freezes over – we stay home.

Didn’t Simon say at Taylor’s audition that “It’s not always just about the voice?” So now AI IS all about the voice? Which is it?

    Sometimes Simon just confuses me.

Record sales = best voice? Well Sarah Vaughn must be pretty upset, cause apparently Janet Jackson sings better than her. :rolleyes_tb:

And didn’t Taylor himself say once that he didn’t think he had the best voice?

Simon said that this was more than a singing competitionà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.
Taylor was the TOTAL package last year..

Simon actually said — “IT’s NOT JUST ABOUT THE VOICE…”

Randy later chimed in : “YOU DON’T THINK THIS GUY CAN BE COMMERCIAL ?”

Simon then said : “This guy should be singing backgrounds, not in the spotlight”

Randy was taken aback : “BACKGROUNDS MOVING LIKE THAT ?”

Simon then said to Taylor : “They will not put you through to the finals to be judged by the nation”

Taylor then says “GIVE ME A CHANCE…” ( several times ).

Randy and Paula over-ruled Simon and the rest was history.

Of course Simon said I WAS WRONG after Taylor blew everyone away with his LEVON performance in the TOP 24.

BTW, Give Randy some kudos. He might have a limited DAWG vocaublary — but he was also the one who put Jennifer Hudson through in the Season 3 wildcard when Simon kept criticizing her.

  • jpfan

Kat’s predicted 100K is pretty good for a delayed album in January However Kat and Taylor got 69M votes or something like that between them in the finals. He’s looking like the lowest selling idol winner ever and her opening week is 1/2 of Bo Bice (I think) with more promo than Madonna gets and the hottest producers around. What the Hell Happened? I know the music biz is in trouble but comparing their nbrs. to the Clay/Rueben nbrs. is crazy. It looks like only idols who sing in popular genres (rock, country) can sell records. If someone out of a hot genre wins, AI can’t deliver anymore.
If I’m wrong on Bo’s numbers let me know. I agree 100% with Simon. Best singers went out 3, 4 IMO.

    Interesting. The totals are different.

The numbers are consistent with the rounded numbers we’ve been getting from Ken, so they are close.

SS will sometimes adjust numbers, but it seems odd that would happen for two related artists. Although, others at the source site are also noticing some minor total discrepancies.

This is a new source of numbers, but he seems legit. It would be a lot of numbers to fake and they are consistent with what data we have seen from other sources. Maybe SS is putting out unique versions of the list to each buyer so they can find out who is leaking? (says the cynic).

I wouldn’t worry too much about it. The numbers are not differing by all that much.

Nevada has more experience with SS numbers. Hopefully she will weigh in.

When it comes to album sales it’s pretty hard to judge until a couple of singles in at least. Those numbers go up and down with promo appearances, radio play, etc. You can’t track week by week numbers like a horserace or something and declare winners. It just doesn’t work that way. Chris is a pretty good bet to sell a ton but the others are too soon to call. In fact, Kellie is just starting to pick up steam now with the realease of her second single! I think we should all take a breath and check back in about 6 months from now.

One fact is that throughout, there are NO backup singers used on the recording. It is painfully obvious that you do not have an ear for music, because the vocals are done by vocal layering and harmonization by the artist only.

Someone mentioned up thread that Ace was going to be on John Gibson’s show on fox news channel – so I just watched it. Gibson of course asked him about this year’s auditions. Ace was very diplomatic about everything he said. He also talked about Scattered and his soon to be released album saying he is working with Desmond Childs and – hold onto your hat – Diane Warren. He also mentioned his charity for the children’s hospital in Denver. Finally, he got a plug in for helping DAUGHTRY write the chorus to INO.
