The X Factor ratings stayed even with last week, but according to Marc Berman, the numbers declined 19% over the Season 1 final.  X Factor got their asses kicked by The Voice, which scored a 4.9 in the demo and over 14 million viewers. Ouch.

On FOX, The X Factor was even with last week’s 2.7 adults 18-49 rating. FOX was the number one network in adults 18-49 and with total viewers.

” the numbers declined 19% over the Season 1 final.”

That’s a big drop. The X-Factor is in trouble.

  • EH

It really amuses me that X Factor is the least popular of the big 3 singing shows. I stopped watching halfway through the first live show.

It’s all so fake and mean-spirited. I just found myself feeling sorry for the contestants.

  • Amy Beth

On Tuesday night, NBC ran a clip show remix of the Monday final performances at 8 pm (before it aired the live results show at 9 pm).

That clip show got just about as many viewers as X Factor’s live show. That’s crazy!

  • calliebeckett

If FOX pilots for next season take off, I’m not sure X Factor can stay with these kind of ratings.

  • girlygirltoo

The fact that the finale is down 19% from last season does not bode well for the future of XF (I won’t be surprised if next season is the last one; FOX is likely losing $ on the show) — and it also isn’t a good sign for the contestants, because it shows a lack of interest in them as artists.

  • Guilherme

Well deserved Mr Cowell. Your show lacks talent, originality and professionalism. Even on a finale with the best of the talent you have, you couldn´t bring the best of them with repeating/overdorne performances and some horrible duets.

  • kevin

its not a problem of talent. some of the judges house performances really blew me away. it all seemed very promising, until live shows happened. i just think theres far too much meddling by producers and judges, and i thought AI was bad in that regard, but X factor is way worse. Give the contestants more creative freedom, get judges that are actually invested in their acts, replace the hosts with Cat Deeley, and work up to full blown performances, dont just throw it all at once at the contestants.

  • calliebeckett

I hear rumors that there was a lot of autotune used in the judges houses which may have led to high expectations for the live show…

I don’t know. Everyone keeps saying X-Factor could get cancelled, but if SYTYCD can get renewed due to crappy ratings, then I don’t see how this can’t last a couple more seasons. Especially since it is one of their higher rated shows of their fall season. FOX is always last in the fall anyways. I do agree this ones that will suffer the most from the poor ratings are the contestants. Hard to make stars if not enough people care to see the show that supposedly makes stars.

Simon should do himself a favour and just give up the US version to US producers, so they can market the show appropriately to American audiences. At this rate, he is just ruining his own show. Maybe this show needs to be on the CW. At least it does better than any show on that channel. LOL

  • elliegrll

I doubt that they are losing too much money, it is still a cheap show to produce, much cheaper than most scripted shows.  The ratings are also still good enough to put the show in the top 25.  The ratings aren’t good, or what the people in charge wanted, but the X Factor is lucky that Fox as a whole is having a horrible time during the first part of the season.

  • Klaine

Finale was bad. Why keep singing songs we’ve heard before or a song you sang last week… Zzzzz. And no A list celebrities. I feel bad for Carly as her duet performance wasn’t very good. I also couldn’t believe that a13yo never did an up tempo song during the entire competition. Fifth Harmony may have momentum but I agree the last performance were solos . Deni once said she saw a few solo artists there and I agree. Tate did the best… do tweens really vote for a country guy in his 30s or are older people watching

The I’ve thing ib like is that whoever wins, they’ll be an act that couldn’t have appeared on Idol

  • Klaine

XF in trouble isn’t really a news flash @fuzzywuzzy. This season was a train wreck and I think it was worse than S1 in every way. Regret wasting time watching it. Simon needs one major revamp to try to save it but the XF brand is Nada in the USA. Sorry Ricky Martin went to Australia. I wanted him & Cher. Britney should be fired. Demi didn’t t help ratings although I surprisingly liked her. Glad LA is gone.. So annoying. And although it’ll never happen, I wouldn’t mind no Simon on the panel.. His schtick us tired. And hosts and double eliminations every week didn’t work either. I’d even fly Dermot on a private plane * have him do both shows… Bruno & Len inDWTS do it

  • Landon Cox

SYTYCD is in the Summer though, and there aren’t a litany of dancing shows flooding the market. Fox may – and probably should – decide to nix XFUS to keep the competition to just Idol and The Voice.

  • Willis White

I wouldn’t say that X-Factor is in trouble. Besides Brit’s salary, it probably is cheaper to produce than the scripted drama’s.

I watched the Finale panel talk the other day and a lot of what Simon said made sense. He was happy that they are now courting the coveted teen market, and hopes that grows next season. In today’s Hollywood Reporter article it says X-Factor received four times the amount of social media comments than they did during Season 1.

So with the addition of the new Nielson/Twitter rating, next year could see an even bigger improvement. More people are watching shows through online streams and DVR now and I think advertisers will be interested in these new numbers.

The Voice scheduling a Fall season the same time was also an unfortunate speed bump.

  • fuzzywuzzy

That would explain why some singers went from sounding good/on key to bad/off key/pitchy.

  • girlygirltoo

It costs way more to produce XF than it does SYTYCD. Simon Cowell probably makes more money than all the SYTYCD judges put together. So FOX needs XF to be way more successful than this other show in order not to lose $ on it.
