    With Simons comments, he is being nothing less than hypocritical, and as a representative of AI, is basically saying on Oprah, that the viewers are irrelevant because they make the wrong decisions anyway. On the other hand, he takes part in a promo in which he says that only “the best” win American Idol, basically then saying that the voters DO get it right. Which is it then?

    Sneak Peek: Taylor Hicks’ New Single
    “American Idol” Winner Releases “Just To Feel That Way”

    NEW YORK, Jan. 17, 2007

    Taylor Hicks is looking forward to kicking off his tour on March 14 in New Orleans. (J Records)

    (CBS) Last year’s American Idol, Taylor Hicks, is out with a new single, “Just To Feel That Way.”

    The track is from his self-titled debut album, which entered the Billboard Top 200 album chart on Dec. 12 at No. 2.

    The 30-year-old Birmingham, Ala. native has described his debut album as a blend of old and new.

    “It’s my modern take on modern soul music,” Hicks told The Showbuzz in December. “I like to say the word ‘modern whomp music,’ because it’s just got that funky, bluesy, jazzy, but modern edge. And that’s kind of the route I wanted to take on this album.”

    Hicks begins his tour in support of the album on March 14 at the House of Blues in New Orleans. He’s also scheduled to appear in St. Charles, Mo.; Green Bay, Wis.; Atlantic City, N.J.; Baltimore; and Kansas City, Mo. with more dates to come.

    During the “American Idol” tour this summer, Hicks had a chance to perform in much larger venues than he’s ever played.

    “Playing on arena stages was exhilarating,” said Hicks. “The energy was interesting because there’s definitely a longer place to get to the energy à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’  from the fans to the stage. You really have to connect with people who are all the way back in the audience.”

    But Hicks said he is more comfortable performing in small theaters and clubs, as he will on his upcoming tour.

    “I enjoyed the experience of playing arenas, but for me, as an artist, I think the more intimate settings and the more theater-oriented settings is right for my music,” said Hicks.

    Did you see that Chris is holding steady on the Billboard charts at number 4! That is really fantastic. Most of his cohorts have fallen by the way side. Chris is close to outselling Jay-Z by now when Jay-Z sold double to Chris on debut week.

    Hicks has reached this coveted platinum milestone prior to the release of an official single. The first single, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Just To Feel That Way,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  goes to radio this week. To ring in the New Year Hicks will also kick off his first headlining tour on Wednesday, February 21st, in Jacksonville, Florida at the Florida Theater with dates currently scheduled to run through April 27th in Kansas City, MO. This is the first time fans will be able to see him perform songs from the new album in a live venueà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ 

    Come on Griz, you have got to love Taylor’s marketing people. It is clear to see that Taylor’s folks know what they are doing. There seem to be quite a method to their madness and I must say, I love it.. What cd is out on the charts selling with out a single? Also by certifying the cd now it will drive his concert sales. Nowing that this cd is platinum might encourage more people outside of his fanbase to check out the concert. It is all part of marketing.

    We are scream about a single but we seem to miss what is really happening. Taylor just accomplished a feat. Selling cd, albeit slowly, without a single in place. I don’t recall any Idol doing that but I am open to be corrected.

    This is the cd that was not mainstream by any stretch of the imagination and yet it has managed to sell close to 600,000.00 without a single. You have artist droping singles after singles trying to keep their cd afloat and Taylor is now, after a month and almost 600,000 cds under his belt releasing a single. If that is not a feat in and of it’s self then I don’t know what is.

    One can spin this however they want but it is an accomplishment all the way.

    as always I spend most of my MJ time in lurkdom…always playing catch up and I have to say.. I liked all the guys this year.. and yup purchased DAUGHTRY’S CD and let me tell you I almost want to go break the freakin thing in half.. just from being here and listening to all the OMG Chris has accomplished this and oh he is an amazing singer … look he proved AI is flawed …he really is the BEST to come out of season 5 …yada yada yada… crap…
    makes me want to hate the guy and it is not even his fault

    I’m not surprised that Arista had Taylor certified platinum.. that way they can say all the winners had platinum albums.

    It is nothing new that they can certify platinum if shipped platinum. There are many artists with platinum records on their walls that never scanned platinum. What is fair for one is fair for all.

    I’ve checked All Access and Radio and Records and they do not have Taylor listed for going for adds this upcoming week (1/22). Did his press release give a date?

    Also, according to R&R Kat got 12 adds, All Access 20. That is a decent amount.

    Too bad that press release happened today instead of yesterday.

    Last night American Idol was strutting its stuff about past Idol contestantsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ accolades which included Kelly Clarksonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Grammies, Carrie Underwoodà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CMAs, Jennifer Hudsonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Oscar buzz, and Chris Daughtryà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s highest selling debut rock album ever. They could have said Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s platinum à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“sellingà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  album besides just showing him winning AI as previous winners.

    It’s fine Lassie, Taylor will get his praises in time. He does not always have to be bunched with everyone else. I am sure he is not losing sleep over not being mentioned with all the platinum AI alumnis, so maybe you should not worry… :wink_ee:

    ETA: Maybe it was part of the plan. You may never know…

    Perhaps, just perhaps they know what they are doing? Today was a GREAT day for Taylor and his fans. We got a release date for the single, we got a Platinum certification and we got Taylor climbing on amazon.
