Good news for Season 7 Idol, Carly Smithson and her band We Are the Fallen (We Are the Fallen are made of of Ex-Evanescence members).   The band will release their first record in early 2010.

From the press release:

NEW YORK–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Universal Republic Records has signed new rock group We Are The Fallen, it was announced today by Monte Lipman, President and CEO of Universal Republic Records. The new band is comprised of the original members of multiplatinum trailblazing band Evanescence, guitarists Ben Moody and John LeCompt along with drummer Rocky Gray, with enigmatic American Idol finalist Carly Smithson powering the vocal reins of the new group. Respected touring and studio bassist Marty O’Brien (Disturbed and Static-X, among others) rounds out the iconic fivesome.

‘We Are The Fallen represents a bold new musical turning point and we’re thrilled to be able to deliver their music to audiences hungering for their brand of passion,’ stated Lipman. ‘The combined elements of this band are a force to be reckoned with, and the entire company joins me in welcoming them to Universal Republic Records.’

Former Evanescence guitarist and co-songwriter Ben Moody also commented: ‘Carly, John, Rocky, Marty and I have been sequestered for a number of months to deliver a body of work that is going to stand the test of time. Collectively, we are thrilled to be in the very capable hands of Monte (Lipman), Avery (Lipman), and Tom (Mackay), as well as every individual at Universal Republic Records. We cannot wait to unleash our creativity in the new year.’

Carly Smithson stated: ‘The chemistry in this band has made for some incredible music. We are all so grateful for this amazing opportunity and thank our fans for the strong love and support they are already showing us in this early stage. We look forward to working closely now with our new family at Universal Republic Records to bring our music to as many people as possible.’

The group is currently recording their debut album for Universal Republic in Los Angeles and expect to release it in early 2010.

Good for Carly getting signed. I hope it’s not Evanescence 2.0 because they’ve already gotten enough flack for that. Might be difficult to break away from, however, considering the band members and her voice. I hope she does well. I really like her.

Great news for Carly, can’t wait to hear what they will come up with.

This is great news! I was very excited to hear about this opportunity for Carly way back when, and am even more glad to see they are moving forward with this with a real record company. Carly’s voice is too fantastic to just not be in the music business. Go Carly and We Are The Fallen!

  • rayni

I’m so glad for Carly but this is the worst band name.

  • alxsavage

Amazing news! I love Carly, she was my fave on S7 and still is my fave female contestant ever, she truly deserves this, can’t wait to hear this album.

  • abbysee

Can’t wait to see what they come up with….go Carly. That voice is too incredible to be denied.

Nice, new Jason and Carly music in early 2010. I wish both these guys made it to the 2009 holiday season, but better than nothing. So top 6 from Season 7 all have albums, woot! Oh wait, Syesha’s doing Dream Girls. Still a primo gig. Not bad at all. Oh wait again. Actually top 8 except Syesha all have albums- I almost forgot about the KLC rush job. S7 4eva!

So happy to hear this news. Congratulations to Carly and the guys. Carly has an amazing voice and the combination of their talents will produce a great album. Can’t wait for it!!

    Good. I’m glad.

Wow, #1, #2, #4 and #6 from Season 7 now have major label deals. And #5 and #7 have indie albums out.

  • weareallinnocent

I happy for her. I really like their initial single, Bury Me Alive, and was watching and waiting for their promised sequential single releases “every couple of months”… But, I suppose this is probably better. ;-)

Good for Carly and the band. I’m glad to see some forward motion. Looking forward to the music.

Good for Carly, I still think “We Are the Fallen” is a horrible band name though lol.

Wow, #1, #2, #4 and #6 from Season 7 now have major label deals. And #5 and #7 have indie albums out.

    Poor Syesha

  • FolkFan

Fingers crossed…. This could be really good….

  • mahrikka

Yay for Carly! I really hope this works out.

I know. I hate it too.

Wow, #1, #2, #4 and #6 from Season 7 now have major label deals. And #5 and #7 have indie albums out.

#8 has an indie album, not #7 (which had a major label CD)

I thought Chikezie was also signed. No?

I think I’m forgetting the sequence, but didn’t #7 have a major label album out, but no longer is with the label? And, #8 has an indie album out too right now. I think it goes Cook, Archie, (Syesha), Castro, Brooke, Carly, Kristy Lee, Michael Johns, right?

And “poor Syesha” has a major musical theatre gig, so I doubt she’s wallowing in self-pity right now. Rami and Chikezie may be, but then again, the latter did get to do soap opera karaoke that one time. ;-)

Season seven *may* turn out to be, pound for pound, the most successful season of Idol. I’d still like to see how Jason and Carly’s band do before I dub it better than season five.

D’oh! Yup. I always forget that Michael Johns exited before Kristy Lee Cook.

So there you go, #1, #2, #4 and #6 have major label deals, #5 and #8 have indie albums out, and #7 had a major label CD (but got dropped already). Also, someone who didn’t make the Top 36 (Josiah) is signed with a major label too. And #3 has got herself a major Broadway gig.

    Not bad, Season 7.

D’oh! Yup. I always forget that Michael Johns exited before Kristy Lee Cook.

It was a point that was difficult to digest for most people. No worries. ;-)

#5′s was the only cd I bought (loved it). Let’s see if Carly or Jason can convince me to buy another Season 7 post AI cd when it’s there turn!

D’oh! Yup. I always forget that Michael Johns exited before Kristy Lee Cook.

Well, Kristy Lee could have left for me anytime, but honestly I was neither surprised nor heartbroken at Johns’ exit. He kind of bored me after the first few weeks. He has potential though.

Chikeze is just freaking adorable. I wish him well. So, back to the topic at hand: Good job Carly! I hope this all works out for her.

  • sunchick

Good for Carly, and dayum, you GO, season 7!

I always forget that Michael Johns exited before Kristy Lee Cook.

I had blocked that out. The pain, oh the pain of the Mavid deprivation… Anyway, Season 7 ftw,

  • lizland

I’m excited to hear what they come up with. Carly has an amazing voice and I think this style will be perfect for her. Like many, S7 remains my fav!

  • fearbear

That’s good, I’m slightly excited for this album. I listened to the studio recordings from S7 again recently and I really loved Carly’s Here You Come Again. I wasn’t able to appreciate her during the season at all, I think I was jaded by all the plant stuff, heh. But anyway, their Bury Me Alive single is such an Evanescence rehash though, so if their album is gonna be a “Fallen” rehash then that would not interest me at all, hopefully they can come up with something a little more fresh. Show that Carly can bring something new to the table instead of being just a vocal replacement.

  • Sunshinegirl

COOL! That’s Colbie Caillat’s label. It’s independent, but Colbie is all over radio right now! This is good news for Carly indeed!

  • CRB

Carly’s an awesome singer and this gig, lead singer in a rock band, is really her dream come true. I’m glad for her and the rest of the band too, congrats to We Are The Fallen (and, yeah, that is kind of a mouthful.)

  • yaminacookie

    Nice photo!

  • oceana

Good for Carly, can’t wait to check out the songs.

Season 7 was the best ever.

  • BootStar

Yay, Carly! I’ve missed hearing her sing. I loved her on the show (inconsistent performances notwithstanding) but really came to appreciate her later in retrospect. I still listen to a lot of her Idol stuff on my iPod.
