The Voice Live Blog- Battle Rounds #4

The Voice - Season 7

We are less than 10 minutes away from tonight’s show! Last night’s preview showed lots of drama, so I’ve got my popcorn ready. Do you?!

Gwen has ONE steal left (thanks forever504!). I hope she uses it on someone worthwhile. I look forward to seeing how tonight’s battles are going to play out.

The coach’s advisers:
Team Adam – Stevie Nicks
Team Pharrell – Alicia Keys
Team Blake – Little Big Town
Team Gwen – Gavin Rossdale

It’s the LAST night of the battles. We’ve laughed, we’ve cried, we’ve rolled our eyes. It all comes down to this.

The first battle of the night is Team Pharrell’s Brittany Butler versus Ricky Manning. Pharrell put them together because they are a blend of r&b and jazz. They will be singing “On broadway” by George Benson. Ricky is envious of Brittany’s tone. She will have to infuse a lot of jazz into the song. Can Alicia Keys just stay forever? I love her. Ricky realizes that the song’s lyrics relate to his life situation right now.

In rehearsals, there’s lots of scatting but Ricky doesn’t feel too comfortable doing it. When they jazz the song up more, they both sound SO much better. Ricky needs to connect to the song to get to the next round.

Ricky’s got some great runs. He’s confident. He…looks like Chuck Bass? Blake is loving it. Brittany has got such a cool voice though, it’s filled with lots of character. Reminiscent of Amy Winehouse. I would probably go with Brittany but it depends on what direction Pharrell wants to go in.

Gwen thought they both have strong personalities on stage, and that Brittany did a great job. Adam said that this was on par with what they heard before from Brittany. Adam thinks Ricky has improved so much since before. Blake says they both seem like very knowledgeable vocalists.

Pharrell says Ricky definitely connecting with the song. He said Brittany was more reserved until the end of the song.

Aww Brittany. Good luck girl!

Gwen and Pharrell are comforting her backstage. :(

The next battle is Team Blake’s Kensington Moore versus Reagan James. Reagan’s been an early favorite of mine, just for her song choice alone. They will be singing “Team” by Lorde which…I am not hating this song choice at all. Good job Blake! Blake wants Reagan to think about her pitch. Kensington is a little unsure of herself, but Little Big Town are telling her how good she sounds (and she does!).

Kensington fell ill so Reagan goes into rehearsals alone. Kimberly steps in from Little Big Town to sing with Reagan. They want to make sure she makes eye contact and to work with Kensington on stage. One day later, Kensington goes to rehearse with Blake. Blake thinks she is sounding strong and to continue being confident onstage. Blake is sad to have two of his best against each other.

Reagean starts off strong. Kensington brings a little country to it, she’s a little off melody. They’re both a little off sync with each other.

I’m still Team Reagan. She totally sounds like Lorde, but better lol. Adam’s face looks like he can’t wait for this battle to be over with. Me too, Adam. Me too.

Pharrell has no idea what Blake is going to do. Gwen thought Reagan’s voice was better than she thought. She liked Kensington’s dynamics. Adam’s said Kensington’s voice cut the room and that Reagan looks like a pop star.

Blake says they both have the hunger to win and they both delivered what he wanted them to.

Team Adam’s final matchup is Beth Spangler versus Mia Pfirrman. He has them singing “I turn to you” by Christina Aguilera. Aww Adam, good song choice. Mia says Beth is a powerhouse. Beth love Mia’s runs. Adam says less is more with this song. Stevie doesn’t want them to be Christina Aguilera, but to sing it from their own perspective.

In rehearsals, Adam still thinks they need to reign it in more. They have to keep the intensity and to stay in the pocket of the song. He says Christina does all those acrobatics in perfect time. He also says it will be great if they can control it more.

Alright here we go, last battle of the night!!

Both ladies start off a little shaky/pitchy. I can’t help but compare to Christina, this was the song of my life when I was a teenager lol. I’m impressed by Mia so far.

Here’s the note. Can Beth hit it??

Valiant effort on her part, this song is a BEAST to sing.

Blake said they both were divas for sure. He said Mia’s voice is powerful, and that Beth has some “country” inside her heart. Pharrell sees potential in both but he would go with Beth. Gwen thought the song was more suited for Mia, but Beth surprised her.

Adam said it’s tough to sing Christina’s songs and that they both delivered.
