A few of my thoughts on tonight’s performances: I wish the coaches would actually CRITIQUE the contestants. Watching the panel lob softballs at the singers is boring to watch. If the coaches are really competing against each other, how about mixing it up a little? Feedback from all four coaches could be helpful to the singers, too. I hope the coaches are at least pulling their charges aside later to offer some real constructive criticism.

The other thing? The “celebrity mentor” deal is turning into overkill. I couldn’t even repeat what any of them had to say to the contestants this week. I even have to think a minute to remember who they were. Oh yeah. Diana Ross, Patrick Stump, Colbie Caillat and a last minute appearance from Christina Aguilera.

Meghan Trainor was supposed to mentor tonight.  I wonder if ABC said NO WAY to Meghan appearing on both Dancing with the Stars (where she’s scheduled to sing tomorrow) and the competing The Voice?

The arrangement of “I Walk the Line” that Craig Wayne Boyd performed didn’t do it for me, personally. But his raw and emotional vocal has obviously struck a chord, as the track is currently racing up the iTunes chart. Craig is appealing, consistent and will absolutely go deep in this competition.

Matt McAndrew was my favorite tonight.  His jump into the crowd while singing “Fix You” looked a little awkward, but that’s part of his charm.  His ability to convey both sweetness and unbridled emotion is a winning combo.

It’s been only two days since Bruno Mars and Mark Ronson’s amazing SNL performance of  “Uptown Funk,” so it’s hard not to compare Chris Jamison’s effort.  He needs to loosen up more, and work on that swagger, but the boy can sang. No doubt about that.  He’s still one of my favs.

Gwen said that she DID NOT want John Taylor Williams to perform “Come Together.”  After last week’s icky “If,” I think it’s safe to say that Gwen should never choose his songs. The Beatles classic has been done to death on singing shows, yet Taylor still managed to offer a fresh take.

Ryan Sill may have saved himself with that performance of “Starlight.”  His vocal wasn’t quite up to the demands of the song, but he had his moments. I rather like his falsetto and he has a sweet tone. A huge improvement from last week’s disaster.

Luke Wade redeemed himself after botching last week’s performance. Having said that, I kept WAITING for the singer to let go.  It was really an odd arrangement, which I’m totally blaming on Pharrell. His attempt at hip hop Otis Redding fell flat.

Damien has a great voice, but the balladeering has become beyond predictable.  Also, he seemed to be struggling on some of the high notes tonight.

Anita Antoinette could be in trouble this week. The reggae arrangement of “Let Her Go” turned it into a monotonous dirge.  Anita never seemed to get into the groove.

Oy. Reagan James. Rapping IS NOT YOUR JAM. What was Blake thinking sticking her with “Fancy”? It was way too ambitious for the young singer. Reagan was clearly struggling on stage. As a result, a finalist that should be sitting at the top, could end up in the bottom 3 this week.

DaNica Shirey. Zzzzz. Pharrell gives her an ancient song while insisting he knows what kind of pop album she’d make. Alrighty then. Anybody taking on Whitney’s “I Have Nothing” better be prepared to knock it OUT. Her rendition was solid, but just a’ight.

OK! That’s me. What say you?  VOTE IN THE POLLS
