Poor Kristen Merlin! A member of Team Shakira, as she was powering through a rendition of Sugarland’s “Stay”, her microphone suddenly went out!
She handled it like a pro, though, pulling out her in-ear and continuing to sing, despite the lack of audio. A tech guy handed her a new microphone in time to sing the very last note.
All of this happening on live television could rattle anybody, even a pro. The audience gave her a standing ovation as she finished, “You guys make me want to cry!” Coach Adam Levine said, “You handled it so gracefully…I would have been in a puddle of my own nerves! I would have been crying.”
After the show, Kristen told TV Guide:
I wanted to run off stage and cry. I freaked out a little bit and just tried to go through: ‘What’s the problem? Is it my in ear? I took that out. No, it’s the mic? OK, just keep going, maybe it will come back. Just keep going with it.’ I was having a great time anyways and I was going to go down swinging.
She added:
I’m always one to find positives in everything. For me, it’s not even worth a second of being negative about it. I had the opportunity. I was on the stage. I rocked that song and people still heard me so it’s all good.
