The Voice 5 Top 5 – iTunes Rankings, Poll Results and Predictions

The Voice - Season 5

With only 5 songs to download, The Voice fans managed to vault the Top 5 tunes into the Top 20.  A first, this season,  I’m sure Carson Daly will be bragging about tonight.

Not only that, but 3 contestants landed in the Top 10 by the 11 am cutoff time! Tessanne Chin hit #1 with “Bridge Over Troubled Water.” And with only 20 minutes to spare, Will Champlin slid into the #10 spot. Jacquie Lee settled in at #6.

Those contestants who made the Top 10 will have their iTunes votes multiplied by 5.

Neither Cole Vosbury or James Wolpert made the Top 10, although they came close at 12 and 14 respectively. So, you know that easy finale spot for Cole? It’s not looking so easy at this point.

The Voice sure has turned into an exciting race. Week to week, there are new front runners. Tessanne seemed like a mid-packer early on, but she’s surely going to make it into the final. Will is like the little engine that could! His try-hardness could be off-putting, and would render his performances a little too studied, but in the end it’s paid off.

Cole  has been easy-breezy sweat free this entire competition. Perhaps his “I’ve got this” attitude worked against him this week. He sang a Garth Brooks song, and sang it well this week, like he always does. But there’s been no growth arc for Cole, and viewers love a contestant who grows over the course of the competition. Tessanne and Will in particular sang last night as if their lives freaking depended on it. Will was pitchy, but he sang “Carry On” with his own twist and ultimately owned it.

James, who I have no doubt will be eliminated tonight, actually had a better vocal than Will. But his performance was karaoke and SAFE. He should have been tearing up the stage like he did early on in the competition. I think hitting the bottom 2 last week spooked him.

Jacquie performed a familiar song with a universal message. “Angel” was arranged in a way that allowed her to hit those big, soulful, high notes that America loves. She didn’t seem out of her element with a song that anybody of any age could relate to.

Tessanne simply delivered a vocal tour de force on a beloved song. “Bridge Over Troubled Water” delivers big time on the nostalgia factor. The only time the tune is a disaster for a singer in a competition is when they aren’t vocally up to the challenge. Tessanne certainly is, which is why Adam made a very smart choice for her.

So here’s my prediction: Tessanne Chin and Jacquie Lee make the final. Will Champlin probably does too, but there is an outside chance that Cole Vosbury could sneak in there. He’s been a frontrunner all season for the finale. Will making the final won’t be surprising, considering his performance and iTunes placement this week, but it will be a major upset, considering how far behind he was in the competition initially. James Wolpert is toast. Bye dude.
