VIDEO: Danielle Bradbery Debuts New Songs, Joins Miranda Lambert & Carolyn Dawn Johnson On Dixie Chicks Cover!

Country singer and season 4 Voice champ Danielle Bradbery began her 3 date opening stint for country superstar Miranda Lambert last night, and took the opportunity to debut some of the new material she has been writing and recording for her sophomore album. Both songs are cowritten by Mikal Blue, Danielle, Johan Lindbrandt, and Shari Short. “Friend Zone” is a flirty pop rocker with a spoken-word post-chorus that’s arguably a nod to Sam Hunt’s breakout on the country format. “Mama Was A Liar” is a rangy country/pop/rock blend that could lean in any of those directions depending on the production of the studio version. Check out video of Danielle’s debut performances of the songs here:

Both tunes represent a shift away from the innocence of Danielle’s self-titled debut album. Big Machine Label Group (and American Idol mentor) Scott Borchetta recently talked to San Jose country station KRTY about how they made Danielle’s debut album without much of a sense for who she is artistically, and how he’s been really surprised and excited by what he’s hearing in Danielle’s co-writes from the past 6-8 months:

Here’s a nice bonus. For her current tour, Miranda Lambert has been bringing out a well-known female backup singer (either Voice alum Gwen Sebastian or early 2000s country hitmaker Carolyn Dawn Johnson) and her female opening act (a rotation that includes Ashley Monroe, Sunny Sweeney, and Voice alums Danielle and RaeLynn) for a cover of the Dixie Chicks’s #1 hit “Cowboy Take Me Away” (cowritten by Marcus Hummon and Chicks member Martie McGuire). So check out Danielle joining Carolyn Dawn Johnson and Miranda for some sweet harmonies on this much beloved tune from a sorely missed trio of talented ladies:
