Brian Mansfield of USA Today’s Idol Chatter blog  posted a handy guide to upcoming Idol album releases.

Read it  HERE.

Check out the schedule below.   I added Allison Iraheta, also signed by 19R with her castmates Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, to the list–not sure why Brian left her off. She’s reportedly busy planning her album, co-writing with David Hodges among  others.

ETA: Adding a few more to the list. Thanks for the additions, peeps.

  • Michael Johns, Hold Back My Heart – 06/23
  • Various Artists, American Idol Season 8 (Walmart Exclusive) – 06/30
  • Cast Recording, Rock of Ages feat. Constantine Maroulis – 07/07
  • Daughtry, Leave This Town – 07/14
  • Jordin Sparks, Battlefield – 07/21
  • Brooke White, High Hopes & Heartbreak – 07/21
  • Phil Stacey, Into the Light – 08/25
  • Blake Lewis, Heartbreak on Vinyl – 10/06
  • Carrie Underwood – 11/03 – She’s writing with Katrina Elam and Ashley Monroe
  • Jason Castro, TBD (Fall)
  • Bucky Covington, TBD (Fall)
  • Adam Lambert, TBD (Fall)
  • Kris Allen, TBD (Fall)
  • Allison Iraheta TBD
  • Katharine McPhee TBD (Fall)
  • David Archuleta – Christmas album

  • Jolene

I believe Archie has a Christmas album in the works, due out late in the fall.

Very curious to see how Jason Castro’s album is handled and what his first single sounds like. Brooke’s prospects do not look promising as of now, lacking promo and airplay. Hopefully the few weeks until the album drops change things for the better. I’m rooting for both of them.

  • dhunken

MJ Also Katherine Mcphee has an album coming out in Sept.

  • Kirsten

Carrie Underwood is also scheduled to be dropping an album during Q4. Current predictions are in early October.

Here are some recent song titles from Carrie’s BMI page (so they might be on her album):
    I Was Gonna Love You
    Lie To Me AGain
    Lord Help Me
    My Favourite Part
    Sugarush

She’s been writing with Katrina Elam and Ashley Monroe.

  • lulwut

David Archuleta is having a Christmas album out.

I don’t think I will support this one if Jeff is indeed the co-producer for this album. Sorry, David.

  • BeckyMD

Although I find their styles different, I saw people compared Kris to Jason Castro, probably because they both play instrument and showed acoustic side during the show. I wonder how their albums being released approximate the same time will affect each other.

  • http://myspace.com hgzaj

This is not meant to be a derogatory comment or specifically pointed to anyone, but MAN is it disrespectful when an Idol is excluded from the list. Is or is not Katharine McPhee releasing an album this year. I know it’s been yes, Spring, no, Fall, now it’s not on the list, so I wonder. Plus ‘Jolene’ just said Archuleta was releasing, he too is not on the list. Why…

  • anovich

I do not understand the Kris Allen/Jason Castro comparisons. To me they are very different and I never jumped on the Jason Castro bandwagon but I am a huge Kris Allen fan. I think they both have the potential to do very well even if they have similar release dates.

No big conspiracy theory….just an oversight. That’s all. Seriously.

Someone just posted on headlines (IIRC) that Jesse Langseth’s recently released EP is available from online vendors. FYI.

hgzaj, did you post your concerns at USAToday, where Brian Mansfield first posted the list? That may make some sense.

I have to agree with this. Plus, there are likely to be lots of artists outside the Idol-world who will be dropping albums at the same time which may be even closer in style to these two than they are to each other. Heck, there might even be some synergy. I know that once I make the decision to by an album, I’m more likely to poke around the store and see if there is anything else I might like (i.e. the threshold for my second album purchase of the day tends to be lower than my first).

I would assume that the basis for this list is based on information that can be factually corroborated. Rumour in the form of tweets or an artist saying they are “trying to” or “working on” or “writing songs for” an upcoming album are pretty vague. Man some artists are always saying they are “working” on an upcoming album, when the truth is that the album may be several months if not years down the road.

MJ’s list is very complete based on what we know for “fact”. The intended time of release may vary slightly but we know that it is happening. I would bet that every Idol that has recorded is “working” on their upcoming idol. I would also bet that the 7 unsigned Idols from this year are working on their albums…if only thinking about what they would like to do given the opportunity.

I, personally, like facts but conjucture is fun and keeps all of us interested.

  • CFIdolsfan

Based on archived posts; his official site, and some of his own tweets about songs he is recording, songs on Phil’s new cd will include his new single, “You’re Not Shaken;” “Inside Out,” and “With all My Heart,” written by Christian artist Bebo Norman. There is also a song called “One” that was mentioned in the archives. And one exciting addition for his phans, especially, will be his patriotic single, “Old Glory.” He cohosted part of the morning show on The Fish 94.1 in Nashville yesterday, and said that the song will be the last track on the cd. How it will sound, I don’t know, but he did say earlier on that it might be just him and the piano on it. He said that 5 of the songs on the cd will be his own, “Old Glory” being one of them. I don’t know if “Light of the World,” which he cowrote with Chris Sligh; and “My Kentucky,” which he once said was about his grandfather, will be on it. He will be performing the whole album this Sunday at the 10:30 morning service at his dad’s church, Hendersonville Church of God in Hendersonville, TN. And Saturday, the 4th, he will be part of an event called “In God We Trust,” with the Nashville Choir. More info can be found at The Fish 94.1 radio station.

I’m just interested in seeing how they market Jason Castro since he’s the first idol to be picked up by a separate major label right?

I bought Daughtry’s cd through his website because if you’re one of the first 50 buyers (for each tour city), you get a free ticket! The total was a little less than $30 but that’s good for his cd and a concert ticket.

  • sayxwhat

Looking forward to lots of these albums! Hopefully blake’s sophmore album is better than his first.

  • sayxwhat

Isn’t Chris Richardson working on an album as well? He’s constantly talking about how he’s recording new songs on his twitter. Just a thought though.

Sorry, but that is not correct.

Off the top of my head:
Josiah Leming (S7) signed with Warners.
Jasmine Trias (S3) signed with Universal.
George Huff (S3) signed with Word records (co-owned by Warners)
John Stevens (S3) signed with Maverick (a division of Warners)
Mandisa (S5) signed with Sparrow (one of EMI’s Gospel labels)

Disney isn’t a major label (majors are Sony, Warners, Universal and EMI), but it does pretty well. They have signed Josh Gracin (S2), Bucky Covington (S5) and Phil Stacey (S6) on their country label Lyric (Phil is now on a Reunion which is a Christian label owned by Sony).

  • itsalleternal

Someone just posted on headlines (IIRC) that Jesse Langseth’s recently released EP is available from online vendors. FYI.

That’s correct. I don’t think she is signed though (19E would have had to clear her).

Still, she has more post-Idol songs out than any other top 36 contestant…for now at least.

  • hardkandy

^^I think Jasmine’s Universal deal is only for the Philippines, if I’m not mistaken.

But yeah, John Stevens was signed by a major, LOL. Guess it’s just much easier for labels back then to sign people. Right now it all just seems so hard for some artists to make it.

  • Kirsten

^^I think Jasmine’s Universal deal is only for the Philippines, if I’m not mistaken.

Probably true, though they did release the album in the US as well.

She got a lot of endorsements in the Phillipines (including McDonald’s) and her album went platinum there. She is currently doing some television show there.

MJ: There’s a comprehensive summary of all the updates on Carrie’s upcoming album in the first post of the Carrie thread at Pulse: link

There’s a list there of 27 new songs that Carrie’s cowritten with everybody from country legend Bill Anderson and other country stalwarts to Regina Spektor/Maroon 5/Dr. Dre/Eminem collaborator Mike Elizondo. She’s been writing with a bunch of new people but also some familiar names from her first 2 albums. Kara DioGuardi’s also blogged that she’s worked with Carrie.

  • Mtlfan

It seems that Kris is not only co-writing but writing as well new songs for his album, according to his latest twitter. I read lyrics from his pre-idol songs and he’s obviously talented

  • Anya

“I’m just interested in seeing how they market Jason Castro since he’s the first idol to be picked up by a separate major label right?

Sorry, but that is not correct.”

And wasn’t Melinda Doolittle’s album produced by Hi-Fi Wilshire?

I do not get the Jason Kris comparison either. Imo, Jason’s voice was not nearly as good as Kris’ and some of his arrangements were simplistic.

  • hollygo9

Guess it’s just much easier for labels back then to sign people.

I think it’s the fact that they went crazy and signed so many contestants in the first three season that makes it harder for non-top 5 finishers to get signed now. It is possible to finish 6th or under and make a music career for yourself (Kellie, Bucky, JHud) but it is rare.

  • LizWaldrope

Paula is so cute. I just saw that she is endorsing a G2 yoga mat at g2fit.com. The mats are really cool because they illustrate the poses right on the mat. I do my yoga outdoors with it. I got an email for $10 off. It’s egG2deal if you want to use it.

  • Q3

MJ, how come you left off Adam’s summer album release? :wallbash_tb:

Just kidding!!! So glad it’s not on this list or Brian Mansfield’s list. :clap_tb:

Although I find their styles different, I saw people compared Kris to Jason Castro, probably because they both play instrument and showed acoustic side during the show. I wonder how their albums being released approximate the same time will affect each other.

IMO Jason’s release will have much effect on Kris’ sales. It will be Kris’ first album and, as the most recent AI winner, Kris will get a lot of press, pre-release buzz and airplay. I am also puzzled by the comparisons of Kris to Jason.

I think this worry is in the same category as worrying about the effect of Black Lewis’ upcoming dance/electronica album will effect Adam’s debut album release.

  • brie200

I don’t really get the Kris/Jason comparisons either outside of their laid back vibes and that they were both on AI playing instruments. But I think because they are both from AI the comparisons are to be expected to some extent.

That is also not a diss at either of them as they are both genuinely talented, but I just find them very different. I know some will classify Kris’s voice as better and maybe it is from a technical standpoint, but I find Jason’s voice more unique. He’s easily identifiable on first listen, whereas I don’t necessarily find that true for Kris.

But I agree I’m interested to see how Atlantic will promote Jason. They seem to be pushing him as an artist as opposed to a quick AI novelty act. I also think the Atlantic people will be fully aware as to when Kris’s album is dropping and will plan accordingly if it is something they are worried about. Yes, Kris will get plenty of promotion for his album especially as he is the current winner of AI, but I expect a pretty decent push from Atlantic for Jason as well. We’re not talking like Jason’s album is coming out on some little indie label.

  • AC

Maybe I should have made it clearer about Jason Castro on a major label.. but it’s also possible that my idea of a major label is just different. I’m thinking he’s going to be mainstream/top 40 stuff and the label will try and put him on radio and such and I just wonder if that will happen. I haven’t seen a major push for any of the other former idols since I don’t see any big promotion for them?

Anyways, Josiah Leming seems like he will never get an album out. I was originally thinking that they would try and capitalize on his “fame” but now 2 seasons of AI have passed and still nothing? I would like to say that I am biased against him since him being a freakin crying baby on idol was a turnoff. =)

  • brie200

AC, based on the songwriters they have hooked Jason up with I do think they are seemingly pushing Jason at mainstream/Top 40. I can’t say whether Atlantic will be successful at that in any capacity or whether Jason will be successful, but the songwriters they have Jason working with are hitmakers. These are people working with some of the bigger names in pop at the moment. I don’t have the list in front of me, but it’s pretty impressive.

Speaking of Kris, there is some overlap in people they have worked with. I know Claude Kelly (My Life Would Suck Without You) had tweeted about working with both Jason and Kris.

  • leome

I was just on itunes and noticed Jordin’s album has a different cover. I’m not sure it’s better than the other one. At first impression it seems like it’s Lady Gaga wannabee with that thing in the eye. Her songs also sound lady Gaga wannabee, so I’m curious to see what’s gonna happen with her.
And it doesn’t seem people are that interested in pre-ordering her album. Which may not mean they won’t be interested in buying it when it’s released.

  • AC

brie200- I hope my comments didn’t make it seem like I was doubtful of Jason making it because I do think he can find success. I was just thinking that this might be the first “star” to make it outside the Idol bubble.. as long as Atlantic markets him properly that is!

  • cc1228

Atlantic is extremely excited about Jason and is pulling out all the bells and whistles to promote him, rest assured! I think with Jason’s release trying to be slated for early to mid October, and Adam’s and Kris possibly November like most Idol winners, and finalists before them, i’m not worried about the effect on sales. Jason’s fan following is bigger and more loyal then you think! I think Atlantic is realizing this more and more too! They were very impressed with the structure that Jason’s official website already had in place in terms of a street team, and they are working alongside with them to make this CD huge.

  • weareallinnocent

Hey MJ! I just remembered the other imminent “releases” from S7 that I most anticipate are the coming singles releases from We Are the Fallen (Carly Smithson.) Was it two singles every two months, or one, I don’t recall? But I know I’m looking forward to them alot!

  • ppwars

I added Allison Iraheta, also signed by 19R with her castmates Kris Allen and Adam Lambert, to the list’“not sure why Brian left her off.

This guy is an idiot. I turned to his writings a couple of times in the season. Inane ramblings, prejudice, bias, nonsense. Deficient in music knowledge. There seemed little to no reason for many of his actions/inactions. I suggest readers here find an alternate blog, live feed and followup to follow. You are NOT going to get a fair report from Mansfield. Horrible! Horrible!

  • http://twitter.com/cara_lee pj

^^^ Eh, while I don’t find Mansfield to be as entertaining (or insightful) as Ken Barnes, he gets the numbers and some inside scoop. So, there’s that.

I’m looking forward to many of these albums. Should be a fun fall!

  • Sunshinegirl

Let’s see, with albums coming out by Brooke, Phil, Kris, Allison, Daughtry, Kat, Archie, and Carrie, I think I am going to be dead broke by Christmas! :)

  • noctem seizure

    David Archuleta – Christmas album

I thought Archie’s sophomore record was dropping this fall too?

  • justantonio

i am very excited for Jason Castro’s album to come out. I think we all will have a better idea on how he will do when the first single is released …from what i have heard his tunes are catchy, and easy to listen to…….I always thought he had potential to be a superstar…he has the package…looks, talent, charm…plus his music has worldwide appeal….so I now wait to see how things go

  • Jolene

I thought Archie’s sophomore record was dropping this fall too?

    Delayed to Q1 or Q2 2010.

  • stargirl

I’m worried about Kris album compared to Jason Castro’s.

Atlantic is happy about Jason. There behind him 101%.They update his site.I think hes getting the best help for his album.Jive isnt behind Kris.Jive doesnt
bother to do anything but let kris be pushed aside. He wont get promoted or
the respect from jive that he needs.

  • hardkandy

She got a lot of endorsements in the Phillipines (including McDonald’s) and her album went platinum there. She is currently doing some television show there.

she is? haha I haven’t heard of her in here for FOREVER. last I heard she is a judge for a reality show in Hawaii but I forget the name. I thought Ramiele would also capitalize on the newfound fame among Filipinos like Jasmine did but she wasn’t able to do anything here as well. for some reason, Ramiele didn’t have as many fans here as Jasmine did, it was all about the Davids last year.

I am so excited for Brooke, Jason, Adam and Archie albums!!!!!

  • RV65

^^ “xxx…for some reason, Ramiele didn’t have as many fans here as Jasmine did, it was all about the Davids last year.”

It would be difficult to surpass or even just match the popularity of the Davids in the Philippines….even after Season 8…..

  • Qcloud9

Will there be a pool to predict whether the TBD titles will include the word “heart” or some derivation of it (heartbreak, etc)? LOL :smile1_ee:
