Expanded M&G recap from Lisa!

First let me say I was not excited about going to the concert by the time it rolled around. I had too many things on my plate this summer & was just not looking forward to it at all.

I worked up until 3am on Friday night then tried to catch a couple of hours of sleep. By 6am I was up and showering and still not excited to go. Gwen thanks for being excited for me, heh, it helped!

Hubby said no way no how was he going to the concert & to my surprise my best friend bought the tickets for my B-Day a few months back. Cass (Cassandra) was excited to go see the concert but was not really excited to do the meet & greet. Cass figured she could tough it out tho since she would get to look at the *pretty Aussie*, lol.

More recap and photos after the JUMP…

We got to the BOK around 8:30am parked and trudged our way toward the bus area. There were three or four girls already there with a *free hugs* sign sitting under a tarp tent. A very nice guard came up & told us we could stay there, but that the meet & greet was going to happen at the BOK entrance. Off we trudge back around to the Entrance where 8 Word Nerds & 3 Archie’s were already waiting. It dawns on me I forgot to eat something this morning.

After saying hello to the Word Nerds we staked out a spot right next to the building to the right of the doors. We met some awesome fans from all over the world literally. One of my faves was Marcy from DC, hey Marcy if your reading this! I was starting to look forward to this ordeal until two women showed up & said the idol’s would not come out until around 2pm!! Ummm HUH? My math says that is 6 hours from now. Cass’s eyes are starting to growi large. I could tell she was wanting to say something & it would probably not be verra nice. Nothing much exciting happened for the next two hours. We just talked and met various fans from the US. One mother & daughter (very nice) had driven in from Nebraska that very morning. They walked up to the ticket office and scored second row seats. @#$(%&#$%#&!!!

The glass entrance doors were misted and some bored Word Nerds had written on them David Cook RAWKS and a couple of other things about David. A very grumpy BOK worker finally came out with a squeegee and complained with each stroke and tossed a hissy fit while cleaning the glass. Oh Please. She mumbles more. What? Ohhh she apparently had tried out for AI and was turned down because she was too old so now she is washing windows at the BOK.

Around 11am Cass’s eye’s were getting that fidgety nervous look and she was getting antsy. Cass finally asked if it would be ok to leave me there & she would come pick me back up after the meet & greet. I did not have my cell phone so Marcy pipes up that I could use hers to call Cass. (Thank You Marcy!) With a fake sadness that she would not get to see her Aussie, off goes Cass, & off goes my purse which I had left in her jeep.

By 11:30am the humidity was downright horrible and my water bottle was empty. We could not get in the building to use the bathroom or get water. The nearest Quik Trip was about a mile away. We were SOL. By noon about 200 people had gathered. The humidity made for some bad hair styles mine included. We were sweating which was not verra pretty. Around 1pm 3 of the girl’s decided it was time to find a bathroom. 4 of us decided to walk the two blocks downtown to the nearest hotel & some nice people said they would save our spots.

Marcy, the daughter from Nebraska, & a nice girl from Ponca City, Ok and I were heading back from the hotel. We got to the stoplight across the street from the BOK when there was a tremendous roar from the crowd which had swelled even more since we had left. It was pandemonium, the crowd was screaming & running from the entrance & around the corner of the BOK out of site.

Have you ever tried running in high humidity when you are thirsty and thinking you are going to pass out as it is? Not fun. Off we run & we must be pretty fast because we beat 3/4 of the people who had been at the entrance and we had just ran a block, lol. We show up at the side of the building around a black barricade. We had arrived…. Yes indeed we arrived at the smoke hole! Marcy and I looked at each other and knew something was just not quite right. We started questioning this move and asked people why we were here and if someone had told them to move. No one really had an answer. I said again, something is not right. The girl from Ponca City said she would go back to the front and check it out. About 4 minutes later I turned to look through the glass (the building on that side was all glass) and I could see the Event Staff putting up barrier’s at the entrance. A scream went up in the crowd and it was like a stampede of rushing bulls. Arms, leg’s, faces streaming by me in a blur & I started running. I did manage to get my original place back at the front of the barricade don’t ask how it was just fate, heh.

The clouds are starting to roll in and it’s looking like rain. We don’t really need to worry about that since we are under a huge awning/overhang. Or so we thought.

The event staff moved us once more after a few minutes. Apparently the fire department has a rule that large crowds must be 50 feet from an entrance. Aaaa phooey on that. We all grab onto the barrier so we can *help* them move it, lol. We are taking baby steps backing up, trying to sweet talk the event staff guy by saying *awww isn’t this far enough? Ok how about now, wait a minute we are getting close to being out from under the awning. HEY NOW,* We stopped about 3 feet short of the end of the awning. Hmmmmm… By now with this horrible humidity, my hair is growing, I can literally feel it starting to rise from my head & my purse went with Cass so I can’t tame it down

A star is about to be born. A funny guy that worked for the BOK decided to entertain us or maybe he just wanted his 15 minutes of fame who knows. He did indeed entertain us. He would walk out the doors and get the crowd to yell doing the wave with his arms. Then he would walk around and talk to the fans. He did this more than once and was always welcomed like a Rawk Star!

By now there must have been 20 BOK folks gathering inside of those off limits shinning glass doors. Wait what is that??? Is it rain? Oh you betcha it is. It rains, ok it pours. The poor folks on the left side of the building get soaked and they started screaming. The BOK folks inside are holding their hands over their mouths trying to stifle their laughter. Short relief from the humidity. People start pushing in and I am now close to being squashed into the barricade. Lisa does not deal well with people in close spaces. Ok I can breathe as long as they don’t start touching me. Just. Don’t. Get. In. My. Space.

Who is that guy? There is a young guy standing two behind me that looks like Archie’s brother. He is soooo close to looking like Archie he is starting to freak. me. out. A bit unnerving it was.

A scream goes up on the left side of the crowd which now has to be around 300-400 people. They have a better view inside the building. Women whip out mirror’s and brushes and try to fix their makeup and hair if they can. I look behind me toward the road where I last saw my purse, grit my teeth and try to smile.

Ten minutes later and it is screams for real. Who is it??? Is it David???? No, it’s Kristy. That’s ok, we yell for her anyway! Oh I lucked out. Apparently a lot of the Idol’s start on the left side of the fan’s particularly the 2 David’s. Someone mentioned for Archie it was something to do with him being left handed. I’m a leftie myself, although I don’t get it. Anyone going to an Archie or DC concert meet & greet might want to take note of that.

My thoughts on Kristy. She is short! I thought she would be this tall billowy somewhat wholesome blond. She was short and tiny. TINY. Color me shocked. Kristy was extremely gorgeous. She could not have been kinder to the crowd and they loved her.

Screams, more screams and even louder screams. Archie appears in the doorway. With a bright smile on his face he heads toward our side. I have always thought Archie had a beautiful voice but my fandom belonged to Cook. He smiles and signs and giggles a bit to the two people before he gets to me. Awww, there he is. Smiling at me and he IS. SO. SWEET. OMG. He is just, sorry to use this, precious. Can he be ANY sweeter???? I switch places so the Archie look alike can give Archie this adorable doll. (there is one for Cook too). Archie was really kind to him & I wonder what was going on in Archie’s head while looking at him, it must have taken him aback a bit. Archie is overwhelmed by the gifts and the fans loving on him. He is taking the time, and I do mean a lot of time talking to people and telling them Thank You. The crowd adores him!

What the???? All hell just broke loose! The crowd is besides themselves. Out walks Cook to loud yells of *Welcome Home Cook!*. He quickly walks over to us and states he only has ten minutes. Awww :-( No photo’s, etc. The very nice girl next to me (I believe her name is Heather) had a custom made guitar strap for David. It is beautiful. On one side are David’s initials, the other side are Adam’s. It’s in this bright bright bright orange box. That box, which I will probably see in my nightmares, kept attracting little bugs that she would have to swipe off throughout the morning. I still see those bugs too, aaayyieeee. David loved the guitar strap. The lady next to me (not Heather) who has been nice all morning long turns into something else. While David is to my right & I am taking photo’s this lady decides it’s her right to touch me. Ummm. No. Not a good idea. I hear her screaming and I do mean screaming up at me *put your arm down I’m trying to take a photo*. Then she did it. The lady yanked my arm not once but numerous times & I know I am going to be getting some blurry pics @#$#@. Now she could have done what I & everyone else was doing & lean up or back or between people to get the photo. It’s what we all do. Or…. Wait her freaking TURN. She got my back. She almost got something else. It’s my turn! I give David my gifts, he radiantly smiles, says thank you, my hands shook which I heard someone say loudly *awww her hands are shaking*. He said something else which I forgot, maybe I just did not hear it because I was hungry, tired and sleepy and OK I was nervous cause he was right. freakin. there. He is lovely folks, just lovely. So nice, so sweet, so THERE. Tulsa love love loves them some David Cook and I believe that sentiment is returned. David moves on and the Archie look alike is still freaking me out.

Carly & Brooke come out in that order & start at the opposite side. I expected Carly to be really tiny from all I had heard. She wasn’t. She was however whiter than my letterheads. OMG. Her face was so white I wondered is she had any red blood cells left in her body. Folks Carly was scarily pale. She promised a fan who had been to several concerts a pass to the after party. Someone else said something about it (not mean) and Carly got her dander up saying *Well she has been to several concerts*. Carly, no need to get defensive, really. Other than that, Carly was nice.

Brooke, was very pretty! I got blurry photags because I was being squished from all sides. Time for me to move on. Really. I want to leave like ten minutes ago. I borrow Marcy’s cell phone and send a S.O.S to Cass.

Jason, aww Tulsa loves them some Jason too! If there is one extremely photogenic person out of this group today it is Mr Castro. That boys eyes, holy moly he has some purtiful eyes. What a sweet guy! Very kind!!!

Oooo Cass is here!!! My purse is here!!! My ticket outta the hell of humidity & rain is here. The golden road to water & food has arrived. THANK GOD!

I look back once more, Jason is about to go in everyone else is gone. No wait. Archie is still there signing, smiling, talking to fans, taking photo’s. What a great kid! Wow! Archie has been there this whole time!!!

Side Notes:

Some Archie fans gave Jeff a 9 inch thick *Tour Book* to give to Archie. It was really nice. Inside the book it had printed out maps of each city, and then photo’s from the meet & greet’s of Archie with fans. Really really nice book/photo album/journey! Great job Archie’s!

The gifts were piled onto a table just inside the doors and the pile was several feet high. Amazing. Cook especially got loaded down and so did Archie!

Dreadheads make really cool signs!

Finals thoughts on the meet & greet:

Never go 6 hours early.

Take extra water & make sure there is a bathroom near.

If you are not into close frenzied crowds this is not the place for you. *noted in my book*.

People turn.

Don’t be a know it all. People don’t want to hear that. It’s annoying. Really. If your reading this and it sounds like it’s you I am talking about in Tulsa, then you’re probably right.

Be respectful not only to the idol’s but to those around you.

Bring a chair.

Bring a purse.

Wear good running shoes which thankfully I did. I felt sorry for those ladies dressed in stiletto’s.

On to the concert!

  • JOJOSIE

You really tell it like it is. Just thinking about standing all that time under those circumstances makes me tired. I’m glad someone does it because it sure makes for good reading. Can’t wait to get your review of the concert.

Gwen thanks for being excited for me, heh, it helped!

    I’m hardcore like that. :wink_ee:

OMG! Sounded like a madhouse! Glad you got to meet The Cook, though!

  • ealbino

wow…great recap… Thanks for sharing your day with us!

  • cruzceleste

Great report… Archie is to cute… I wish you have a photo of the look alike and the dolls…

Thanks for the recap nad the photos…

  • GEEK4VOCAB

HA! I wrote David Cook Rawks on the window! I must have met you!

It was horrifically hot and I think it was working everyone’s nerves. But when they started coming out, things got better. Kristie Lee was very sweet. Archie has a radiant smile and David Cook is… well… he’s David Cook. The screams when he came out were deafening. And he looked so… lovely. (Okay, fangirling is over for now.)

As soon as David signed my iPhone I RAN AWAY. I had a present for Carly but I’d been there since 8:30 and I can mail the damn thing.

It really was intense. The heat and humidity was so bad that the security guards were sharing their water with us! Too many people. Too little Cook time.

He was very very nice to everyone but he also seemed a little stressed out. I think they had him scheduled within an inch of his life yesterday.

BUT… however little time he had, however many gifts he was loaded down with, or the poor guards were loaded down with, he took the time to give everyone a sincere thank you. And when he stepped in front of the little boy next to me he completely engaged him. The poor kid was miserable with the heat and the crowd pushing and the waiting so long… and he had a little guitar. So when David stepped in front of him he said, “What have you got there, man?” And he proceeded to chat with the boy like he suddenly had all the time in the world. I kind of love him for that.

The concert was FANTASTIC. It really was. EVERYBODY was terrific. Chikeze was so good, he had everyone on their feet right away and then he had everyone awwwwing when he started to cry. He was extremely emotional.

Michael Johns was ON FIRE and also happened to be sporting a ridiculous “porn stache” that he said he grew for Freddy Mercury and David Cook. I’m sure someone has posted already that David snuck up to the stage to give him a rose and then douse him with silly string. I can post pictures but I have to resize them all. They are HUGE.

I have never been a huge fan of Syesha, but when she does “Listen” she earns everyone’s respect and deserves the standing ovation that she usually gets. She sings the hell out of that song.

Archie has learned some MOVES!! You should have seen him go during Stand By Me! It was the most adorable thing EVER. He had the little girls behind me turning to mush. And screaming their PIERCING screams! He was very very good. I love me some Archuleta!

But for me… There is no other David in the world but my David Cook. Who is a big giant ball of awesome. He totally killed every song… was sweet, sappy, funny and so incredibly sexy that it’s getting kind of ridiculous. He jumped off the stage and went out into the crowd at the end of My Hero. It was intense.

One of my favorite banter moments was when someone threw panties on the stage (again) and he looked down at them and said, “I don’t know where these came from, but there are two trains of thought… Someone threw these on stage with my mother in the audience… Or my mother threw these on stage.” He couldn’t say the last line without breaking up laughing.

The funniest part is that he pushed them off stage with his foot saying, “I’m just gonna… do that.” He’s getting panty-phobic like Archie!

I’m in denial that this is the last time they’re going to be together. So I don’t want to talk about that.

I’d better get to resizing my pics because I have one of MJ that is just… beyond description.

  • Lisa

Thank you guys. I tend to be brutally honest at times, lol.

Gwen I love ya girl! I have now paid the Rehab center to stay away from me cause I like it just fine in Cookland, lol.

Geek, aww girl. You were the first person I went up to when I arrived with my friend. I just go by a different nick here than the AI boards or Word Nerd Home is all. It was so great to meet you and all the others! Most everyone was extremely nice but there were some awfully pushy women there. Sheesh.

  • frogcooke

Well at least the David’s have ford day on Friday together :) Other than that Im joining you, geek, in denial.

  • Lisa

Great reportà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Archie is to cuteà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ I wish you have a photo of the look alike and the dolls

The look alike is in the second row, 3rd pic from left up top. Straight on he looks scarily like David. He was such a sweet kid too! There were alot of photo’s taken of them when he gave the doll to Archie. I was trying to switch to vid while holding onto my stuff for Cook & keeping my ground from pushy women while it was going on so I missed video’ing or getting a photo of it.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Most everyone was extremely nice but there were some awfully pushy women there. Sheesh.

My experiences meeting people on the m&g line have been nearly always AWESOME.

In Providence, however, I’d found a spot, maybe 1 person deep to get some decent pictures of Archie as he came down the line. I turned to say something to the person standing next to me and this bitch SHOVES her friend in front of me to get her closer to the front so she can get a picture with David. I GLARED at her. Her response was to screech at me, “We came all the way here from New Jersey”. Oh, BFD. That gives you an excuse to be rude?

Then, as David approached us, she started screaming at him, “We came all the way here from New Jersey, take a picture with us…” Meanwhile, Archie was working the line as fast as he could, trying to get to everyone. He was telling people he didn’t have time to take pics with people, but he ended up doing it anyway.

I think some people look at the opportunity as once in a lifetime, and that if they are rude or piss off people they don’t know, so be it. Personally, the two seconds of time you get to say Hi to your favorite hardly seems worth the rudeness, I mean if you were saving your child from an oncoming car or something, I could see pushing and shoving people. But meeting an Idol? I don’t think so.

Anyway, that crowd at the Bok center looks like it was huge. I wouldn’t be surprised if it turned out to be the biggest crowd of all the afternoon M&Gs.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

^Hmmmm…situations like that could get me arrested.

  • sfbb

Great story. The “look-alike’s” name is Rudy. He’s from the Bay Area and one of the infamous Bay Area Word Nerds. We love Rudy. He was helping deliver some “look-alike” dolls to Archie and DC that one of the girls from the WN home made for them.

Rudy is a sweetheart, so glad he got to do this for Archie. I can’t wait to see some pics of them together.

and yes, rudeness unfortunately seemed to abound when it got too crowded. Same thing in San Jose. When DC was in front of me, this woman behind me shoved a “SHOE” in front of my face and into his, for him to sign. Only my southern upbringing restrained me from smacking her backwards.

It seems to be that meeting an Idol is a dangerous taks…. :laugh_tb:

To bad that some people feel the need to be rude or take avantage of the Idols :nono_tb:… I agree that a great part of the experience is having fun while waiting :drunk_tb:…after all the probability that they will remember you after seem you for 1 minute while they write their names is almost zero (unless your are as beautiful as movie star or as funny as Jerry Seinfield), so IÂ ´ll guess meeting new people and having fun is what it made the most of the experience of waiting by the buses…

I have enjoyed a lot of the reviews and stories for the people taht have being as nice as to share them in this an other blogs… what have make me more happy is know that an idol that they didn ´t like during the season has won them over… so thanks to anyone that has take the time to recap their experience…and MJ for given them a way to express their stories… :clap_tb:

Rudy the look a like … let me see IÂ ´ll give him 7/10 only after seing that photo… maybe is I see one the two of them together… :ponder_tb:

The dolls made me wonder how much matching gifts the Davids got… I had know that they have got tshirt and necklace… I guess it should be funny to see all this matching gifts someday… :lol_tb:

  • Lisa

Marcy who I met at the M&G was staying at the DoubleTree downtown. One of the DoubleTree staff told her they alone had over 300 staying there just for the Idol Concert. There are lots of nice hotels close to BOK, got me to wandering how many came in from all over.

There were only a handful of rude people I ran into at the M&G. Everyone else there was out of the way kind and helpful to everyone. Very friendly. I had a really good time, just tiring and very hot.

MJ I agree, it’s just people not a major accident, no need to push, but they do.

People I met that had gone to numerous concerts & M&G said this was the largest crowd. Most estimated it at around 500. I low balled it at 300-400 but they were more than likely correct.

I met alot of hardcore Idoler’s. There was one group of Word Nerd’s that had gone to 9 concerts. I also met another group of women who had been to 11.

I don’t know if my experience would have been quite as bad with the pushy peeps had I not been right up against the barrier. It was the surge from the rows behind me that did it. I like my space I do, lol.

ETA… I adore Rudy!!! Such a sweetheart!!!!! If you know him tell him I said hello. He wanted my email which I wrote down for him. If anyone could, tell him to go ahead & email me & I will send him his pics, because he asked if he could have them. Such a cutie pie!!!

  • Jane62

Hey there – I am ANOTHER friend of Rudy’s, the now apparently famous Archie lookalike! And I’m another of the infamous BAWN (Bay Area Word Nerds). Rudy is a doll and we all love him! He just got back into town, so Lisa I’ll tell him what you said and to email you.

Wow, so some had gone to 9 and some had gone to 11 concerts – makes my going to 5 sound tame by comparison. I’ll have to tell my dear husband so he realizes it could be worse :-)

  • davidcookaddict7

    Hey,

that’s OUR Archie look-alike. Get your own! LOL

Seriously, thank you for mentioning our good buddy and honorary BAWN (S.F. Bay Area Word Nerd). It gave us all something to smile about.

    – the BAWN girls

    p.s. He’s really a Carly fan.

  • amy123

Folks Carly was scarily pale. She promised a fan who had been to several concerts a pass to the after party. Someone else said something about it (not mean) and Carly got her dander up saying *Well she has been to several concerts*. Carly, no need to get defensive, really. Other than that, Carly was nice.

I think Carly might have been pale because her and some of the others partied the night before for her birthday (hung over maybe ??). I was the fan that Carly gave the after party passes to and I had a blast!!! I am a fan of Cookie, Michael, and Carly, but she’s my favorite. Plus I know her and her Mom through one of her fan sites-that’s why she gave me the passes. Anyways, everyone came to the after party except for Michael (not sure why) and I got pictures of all of them. It lasted for over an hour and was absolutely amazing!!!

  • Lisa

LOL!!! He was such a sweet guy. Polite, just one nice guy. He just really stood out to me plus he was just really cute!!! I would have given up my spot earlier to him had he said something.

Rudy if your looking, you did freak me out a bit looking so much like Archie. It was uncanny I tell ya!

  • Lisa

Hey Amy I remember you! There were some fans that gave her a hard time over those passes. I wish she would have just smiled & moved on.

I don’t know if she was hung over or not? She was just so pale in the face & I don’t think she is normally that pale?

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know if she was hung over or not? She was just so pale in the face & I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think she is normally that pale?

Maybe she wasn’t wearing makeup. She usually is.

  • Jane62

Carly always looks very pale to me, and I’ve met her several times! I have pix with her where I look like I have a total suntan compared to her! I think she just has really pale skin!

  • Lisa

Mj, your right she did not have makeup on, but still her face was sooo white compared to well, anyone. Her arms seemed fairly tan. Just made me a tad worried about her is all. It’s the mother hen in me, lol.

  • amy123

Yes, I’ve met Carly a few times before during the day and she did look pale, so maybe she just didn’t put on makeup. I talked to her at the after party and she looked much better then. I think it’s just because she’s Irish that she is very light skinned.

And I did hear some other fans giving her a hard time (being quite rude to her) about the after party passes. I didn’t ask her for them, she just offered them to me on her own since I’m a big fan. I was shocked and thought it was very sweet of her to do that.

  • GEEK4VOCAB

I was there and there were frankly a lot of rude fans. I think to complain that Carly was giving someone else passes is just completely classless.

I think the heat was getting to everyone.

  • http://www.myspace.com/gwendolyndiane GwendolynD

Well, I do hope that Cookie and Archie enjoyed their lookalikes:

    Sexy Spice

    Gosh Spice

I was there and there were frankly a lot of rude fans. I think to complain that Carly was giving someone else passes is just completely classless.
I think the heat was getting to everyone.

Yes, I agree with you about them complaining. I am the fan that Carly gave the passes to, but I didn’t ask her for them-she offered them. I heard some fans giving her a hard time for offering them to me and I didn’t think she was rude to them-she just defended herself. People were being rather rude and pushy, but I guess it was just from the heat (which was awful) and the excitement.

  • batgirl478

Great recap Lisa. I was there too but I was closer to the right side. But somehow I got a spot right at the front of the barricade. And unfortunately for me, I didn’t really get a chance to interact much with David because while he was signing my poster, the lady next to me was still talking to him. But as he moved on down the line someone behind me handed me something to give to him so I called out his name and he looked up at me and I said these are for you and he sincerely told me thank you. I felt bad sort of taking credit when they weren’t my gifts but I didn’t really have a chance to say who they were from as everyone was clamoring for his attention and he was so pressed for time.

Also, after the crowd cleared out I went back to car to put my stuff up while my friend stayed behind to see if Michael Johns would show up. He didn’t unfortunately but when I came back Chikezie was there and he was taking pictures with people. I got a pic with him and I have to say he is a really nice guy too. He’s just like a teddy bear. So I have to give props to him for being such a sweet person. I just wish they would have given David C. more time with the fans but I’m pretty satisfied with getting my autograph and seeing him up close and having the interaction I had with him. Truth be told I don’t think I could have even spoken to him more than I did. I was too tongue tied to even say thank you when he signed my poster!

Oh and I felt bad because I sort of “snubbed” Jason. I had a poster for David to sign and it was very obviously a David Cook poster. Jason got to me before David did and he started to sign it and then he saw it and said “Oh!” and kind of stepped back. I should have told him he could sign it but again, its like my mouth would not work! I didn’t bring anything for the other Idols to sign though because I had gotten everyone else’s signature at the Oklahoma City show, except for David’s.
