Smash continues to garner low ratings.  The numbers this week were flat with last week’s series low.   I don’t think NBC will yank the show off the schedule though. The season’s filming is nearly complete, I have a feeling it will stay on the schedule through the end of the season. But a season 3?  Doubtful.

I have watched every minute of every episode. I have loved every moment of Smash, until this week. I was….bored. Yawning and head nodding , bored.

And super-duper unimpressed with Kat McPhee’s acting again. She simply cannot emote, have a facial expression, move her body or look like she belongs. Yes, she  can sang, sang and sing. But, she is simply not believable in her role.

Megan Hilty is a super star screen presence, she can act, and she can sing circles around Kat. The plot lost me when she became the underdog. And her screen mom is Bernadette Peters? C’Mon!! That’s a combo to die for!!!

I’m hoping for some great comedic interaction with Sean Hayes, but, I simply am not crazy for JHud like so many are. Loved her singing, but, adding her to the mix along with the two song  writers is just too many characters.

It’s like that line from one of my favorite movies, Amadeus, “too many notes. take some out.”

The only actor that I think needs a lot of help is that new writer boy character.  His cocky attitude was not believable.  But maybe it’s also the crummy writing and script that he had to work with. The new songs that he sang didn’t do anything for me either, until JHud sang the new song at the end.

I am anxious to see if Sean Hayes can help the show.  I love him.

I really like Kat, but unfortunately her acting is pretty wooden.  However, she’s fantastic in the dancing/performance scenes.

I’m also surprised at how bad J-Hud’s acting was in this show considering she’s an Oscar winner.  She really did nothing to bring this show up.

That new Jimmy character is beyond annoying.  His character is so OTT with the bratty attitude.  Why bring in a new character and make him instantly unlikable in every way?

This show has really gone downhill since S1.  I think it’s toast.

Megan Hilty is the best of the lot in all around talent so at least there’s a bright spot.

I’m not surprised that J-Hud brought nothing to Smash.  Oscar aside, I saw Dreamgirls and she won the Oscar for her singing talent, her acting was “ok”.  Write it down, she will not have another big acting hit.  She’s will shine in music related parts, and that’s all.

The writing wouldn’t be such a problem if the casting were better. Sadly, I think that Kat is perhaps the weakest link in the show, and her acting isn’t improving. Also, that new young writer that they introduced has zero charisma, and as much as I like Jennifer Hudson, I don’t think she’s the most versatile actress. She really connected with her character in Dream Girls, and definitely earned that Oscar, but this current role isn’t working for me. To me, Daniel Sunjata is the best addition so far to the cast, but I’m not sure that they’ll use him enough. Plus, pairing him up with Julia was a mistake.

Christian Borle, Megan Hilty and Jack Davenport (even with the inconsistent writing) continue be the show’s redeeming quality.
