Blatant repost for those who might have missed it:

    Idol GIves Back Nobody
    By Dave White

…He sits on a Sensitivity Stool and mewls out the atheistic song, completely losing the evangelical Christian vote at least for one night-not counting the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Blaker Girlà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ T-shirt-sporting Elisabeth Hasselbeck, of course-but gathering all the lovers of weak-ass singing close to his stylish young chest. His jacket collar is turned up against the frigid cold of this cruel world, the one that should begin living as one at his limp command. I’m imagining Haley, or better still, McPhee, giving that song the innovative and sluttish treatment it deserves, flashing thighs and winking as if to suggest, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Imagine nothing under my BLOUSE!à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ …

    Making a ‘Bold’ choice

Former “American Idol” contestant Constantine Maroulis is joining the cast of CBS’ “The Bold and the Beautiful,” starting May 15.
According to CBS, “Maroulis will play music producer Constantine Parros, who becomes embroiled in the career and life of heiress Phoebe Forrester (Mackenzie Mauzy).”

And lest we worry that he might neglect his music: “He will perform a number of songs from his upcoming solo debut album over the next several months on the show.”

Idol rolls out the headbangers, but it’ll always be about pop

…The week’s mentor is headbanger act Bon Jovi. That’s just so dope, as Randy Jackson might say — as in fact he did, last week, in laying on the praise for this year’s frontrunner Melinda Doolittle.

Trouble is, Idol is not a rock show. Rock Star: Supernova proved that once and for all last summer. The fact that Idol is about manufacturing a pop act and not a rock ‘n’ roll act will go unmentioned tonight. The fact, too, that hard rock is not exactly in LaKisha Jones or Jordin Sparks’ wheelhouse will also pass unnoticed…

    Blow Average
You, too, could be a star…but please don’t try

Sanjaya, gone from American Idol! Alas, I barely knew him. Our time together was but brief, comprised of stolen moments on YouTube and furtive glances at celebrity gossip blogs. And though now the Indian warbler is forever gone from the Idol ranks, he will always be in my heart. For he is the latest phenomenon to milk America’s love of unexceptional celebrity, raising high the dim torch of relentless mediocrity. Sanjaya could kinda-sorta sing, looked like a Madame Tussauds intern’s first go at styling a wax mannequin and had the stage presence to match. America loved him, even as we wondered at his success…

D’oh! ‘The Simpson’s’ Movie Secret Even to Fat Tony!

LOCKE’D AND LOADED: “American Idol” and “Celebrity Fit Club” personality Kimberley Locke is in the midst of a whirlwind of activity as she launches her “Based on a True Story” album Tuesday —- and if she has her way, she’ll be at least as busy touring this summer. “I just got off the phone with my manager, and we’re working on it vigorously for me to go out on the road, but I don’t know how or when yet. In this industry, everything happens at the last minute. I’ve gotten used to that. I’ve stopped trying to figure things out,” she says. Still, in her perfect scenario, “I would go on tour in June or July for a couple of months. And then I have a Christmas album coming out, so I’d like to tour again the end of the year. It’s very traditional, a throwback. I’m very happy with it,” says Locke, who scored a hit with her new rendition of “Jingle Bells” last year.

$60 million raised, but not one contestant sunk’Idol’ rips us off on creepy do-gooder week

…All in all, the money raised was impressive – $60 million, $100,000 from Ellen DeGeneres alone. The suffering, massive. Camera crews in Africa were unable to save a child they found wandering far from help with his mother, but were able to capture the death itself. Another woman died despite Ryan and Simon’s horror.

But the Idol folks breached their contract. We in the Massive Idol Audience suffer through two days of sanctimonious and self-congratulatory fund-raising – plus cough up 70 million votes and $60 million – and we are then denied our little naughty fix at the end, all the more anticipated because of the backdrop of goodwill.

Bring us back to our core mission by sending somebody home. It would have been OK. We can compartmentalize…

‘Idol’ moves not too hard to figure

…Last week’s “shocking” decision not to send anyone home on “Idol Gives Back” night?

Not so shocking, at least not to longtime “Idol”-watchers.

SIOP – Standard “Idol” Operating Procedure.

Sanjaya, specials aside, it’s time to get serious

Sanjaya is long gone. The self-important, overly self-congratulatory American Idol Gives Back is history. The dress Paula almost fell out of last week presumably has been closeted. Maybe Ryan Seacrest will be able to open the show without having to do a second take. Hopefully, Jordin Sparks has gotten over the vicious head games played with her last week. It’s time to get down to the serious business of crowning the next American Idol…

…Supposedly the 70 million votes cast last week will be blended with this week’s tally to determine who goes home. This should put one-time co-favorite LaKisha Jones and perceived ranking male Blake Lewis at a disadvantage, since neither had particularly strong showings last Tuesday…

A case of mistaken identity, she says
Jessica Sierra tells the victim of her cocktail glass toss that she thought he was someone else.

Wisam M. Hadad didn’t expect drama when he stopped by Hyde Park Cafe early Sunday to pick up a friend.

He said he doesn’t drink, doesn’t party and was there only a few minutes when a blond, intoxicated-looking woman grabbed him by the collar of his polo shirt and launched a cocktail glass at his head.

Police say his assailant was Jessica Sierra, a 21-year-old former American Idol contestant who grew up in Tampa.

Hadad said Sierra mistook him for someone else and apologized before she was handcuffed and taken away in a squad car. He said he doesn’t watch American Idol and found the whole situation bizarre…..

9-Minute Sneak Peak for Ratatouille To Kick Off May

With CG-animated films not the surefire guarantee that they once were, Pixar/Disney faced a dilemma at the beginning of 2007 when they couldn’t decide on how to market Ratatouille. A story about a rat in a kitchen doesn’t necessarily have the largest target market.

The solution? How about they cut the bullshit and give us nine minutes from the film. Sounds big, I know, but that’s exactly what’s coming tomorrow…

… In an innovative cross-media promotion intended to make sure that audiences wonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t miss this special online debut, Disney will launch a day long television advertising campaign on Tuesday, which will be highlighted by a :90-second commercial during à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idol,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ all of which is designed specifically to drive audiences to Disney.com and view the exclusive footage…

Simon Cowell Reflects On ‘Idol Gives Back’

Access caught up with Simon Cowell this weekend fresh off the star-studded “Idol Gives Back” special, and he opened up his sensitive side for once.

The normally acerbic Cowell became introspective when asked about the charity benefit, which he says was a life-changing experience.

“It changed everyone who was involved with the show you know,” said Cowell, who traveled to Africa with Ryan Seacrest to experience firsthand what they were raising money for. “You can’t see what we saw [in Africa] and not be changed by that. But we were very very careful on the show that we weren’t going to preach to people or get political, because that was never our intention.”

He stressed the importance of “American Idol” viewers making up their own minds when it came to contributing to relief efforts for African and American children in need.

“Our intention was, make people aware and then they make their own decisions,” he stated. “And obviously, to make a bigger show than we would have at that particular time — which is what we did.”….

…”Idol Gives Back” co-host Ellen DeGeneres pledged $100,000 on the event’s live telecast, and Simon told Access that he made a sizeable donation himself.

“I did make a very significant, very significant six-figure sum,” he said. “But I didn’t feel comfortable saying that on the show.”

She is 7 years old. Her singing ability or lack thereof in no way precludes her from obsessing about a rosy future, rife with recording contracts, screaming fans and an adoring Simon.

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m seriously going to go for it,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she said the other day, after breaking into a spontaneous rendition of a song most noteworthy for its high-decibel level and lack of discernible melody. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“I know I can do it.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ …….

Taylor Hicks proves a man of few words
Last year’s ‘Idol’ champ wowed viewers but is less exuberant one-on-one.

We expected to be charmed by Taylor Hicks.

After all, it was partly à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ some might say largely à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ his personality, all whoops and hollers and cat-who-ate-the-canary grins, that helped him to victory on “American Idol” last year.

Hicks plays The Grove of Anaheim on Wednesday night. A few weeks earlier, his people talked to our people and set up a phone interview from a tour bus parked somewhere outside Philadelphia…

……Did we learn much? Not really. The fans are great. Touring is hard. The next album is way down around the bend.

And maybe it’s not fair to expect a guy plucked from the Alabama bar circuit to give interviews like Bono overnight.

But would it kill him to try?

Idol Hicks’ voice soars as show falls short

…The nimble, acoustic-led number “The Deal” proved Hicks can write songs, too, and showcased his instrumental dexterity. Smoking harmonica solos during songs like “My Friend” also put to rest any doubts of his musicianship.

Hicks misstepped with the treacly adult contemporary ballad “Just to Feel that Way,” the (unsurprising) current single from his album. In most songs he acted like a preacher at a tent revival, but here he stepped back to let lyrical and performance clichà ©s take over.

If Hicks stuck more to retro-minded numbers like “The Runaround,” or any of the solid covers that fill his repertoire (Pink Floyd, Steve Winwood) the set might have been stronger. As it stands, Hicks has a ways to go if he wants to be counted among his own idols Otis Redding and Ray Charles.

Like the oversized Ray Charles bobblehead doll that sat atop a bass amp, the night was agreeable but ultimately a little plastic.

    HOW DID THEY DO THAT?
Elvis lives, sings and seeks donations

American Idol officials weren’t saying much the morning after Wednesday night’s hyped-up duet between Celine Dion and a surprisingly lively looking Elvis Presley on the “Idol Gives Back” fundraising special.

The whole bit had been assembled on videotape previously, so no audience members saw Dion, much less had an Elvis sighting, at CBS TV studios or at Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Presley’s performance of W. Earl Brown’s If I Can Dream came from his 1968 TV comeback special. With Photoshop-like technology, the 39-year-old Presley footage was morphed with recently taped shots featuring 39-year-old Dion, as though it were taking place at the same time as the rest of Wednesday’s show. An Idol spokesman said only that an Elvis impersonator was used “at one point.”

Album giveaway could ignite music revolution
Â · Indie band breaks new ground on internet
Â · Experiment to be watched closely by record labels

An acclaimed indie band will next month leap into the unknown by becoming the first established act to give away an entire album for nothing in a move which could spark a music industry revolution.

Convinced that changes in the industry and the spread of digital piracy have made it ever more difficult to make money from selling records, the Crimea plan to turn the economics on their head by giving away downloads of their self-financed second album, Secrets of the Witching Hour.

By giving away the album in its entirety on May 13, the band hope to widen their fanbase and ultimately make more money from touring, merchandising and licensing deals than they would from sales of the album.
Despite selling a respectable 35,000 copies of their debut album, Tragedy Rocks, and making the top 40 with the single Lottery Winners On Acid, the band were last year dropped by their record label, Warner Music……

Courtney Love Flogs Off Kurt Cobainà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Old Crap

…Since her first solo album sold roughly three copies worldwide in 2004, Courtney Love has tried variously to be an American Idol judge, the mother of Alan Partridge’s baby and a movie star, but all have failed – the latter mainly because all her plastic surgery have made Courtney Love look like a confused Toby Jug made of wax that’s been left out in the sun too long. But now that Mel Gibson has got Courtney Love clean and her court problems are over, Courtney can start to rebuild her life. And that begins with her bank balance.

Around a year ago, Kurt Cobain became the richest dead celebrity around after Courtney Love sold off a 25% share in his song catalogue, earning Courtney $50 million in the process. And now Courtney Love wants to add to that by staging a giant auction of most of Kurt Cobain’s stuff. E! Online reports:

Coaches’ rock school: Don drills the Idols

Don Waller is well-suited to advising the Idols on how to comport themselves rock-wise, having learned some of those lessons during his own experience as a rock singer. Here’s his take:

Having endured evenings devoted to standards, country, Latin, Diana Ross, an extremely loose interpretation of the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“British Invasion,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ songs that inspired Gwen Stefani, and just plain à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“songs that inspire,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ the six remaining AI contestants -à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ and the at-home audience -à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ will be subjected to a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“rockà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ night, which, at least in the febrile minds of the AI producers, likely means selections from à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ the Jon Bon Jovi catalog…

I read the article about DAUGHTRY at the Indy 500 and I am puzzled. For anyone that doesn’t know, the Indy 500 is the worlds largest single day attended sporting event, 275K in an enclosed track, 2 1/2 miles around with celebrities galore. The puzzleing question it why Daughtry would want to perform on a stage INSIDE the track, there are very few ground seats and none near where the stage is, 1 hour before the flag drops to start the race. All prerace festivities start ON THE TRACK exactly 1 hour before the race. Getting from the infield stage to your seats on the outside of the track takes forever. If he were scheduled 2 hours before the race starts I could understand, but this is just strange. You can’t hear or see the stage from the seats in the stands. After paying big bucks for tickets to the race, why would you miss the one the most exciting parts of the race…the start…to watch a band in the infield????

I am in no way saying this is a bad gig for the band just and odd choice of timing for them.

If Yahoo! searches are any indication, “American Idol” Blake Lewis could be the next Sanjaya Malakar. Blake tops Yahoo!’s buzz list after a 26 percent surge in searches over the last month. Chris Richardson follows at #2 after a 41 percent increase (thanks, in part, to talk that he’d been seen with Lauren Conrad of “The Hills”). And Jordin Sparks comes in at #3 with the biggest bump of all à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ her searches are up 85 percent in the last month. …

That Denver review was actually pretty good, despite the title and the last sentence. He liked Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice, musicianship and his originals. He didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Just to Feel That Wayà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and numbers like that. I bet Taylor agrees.

Actually, something weird musically did happen when Taylor was singing JTFTW at the Paramount. Both Loren Gold and the bass guitarist started really smiling and laughing about midway through the song. Taylor actually gave a bit of a grin too. Both MaryR and I picked up on that “something weird” but, after the fact, neither of us could really identify what it was.

I thought the Denver Post review was mediocreà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ even with the Taylor accolades. He called the band out on its “shrillness”. THAT band, shrill? Methinks, not.

  • rher

Some things to ponder about tonight. What kind of hat will Phil wear? Cowboy? Will Blake pronounce the Ps, or will it be Living on a Brayer? Who will put on the tight rock trousers? Will Randy openly weep after Jordin sings? Will we be able to piece together Paula’s babble to uncover the meaning?

Taylor doesn’t interview well when he isn’t talking about music. I wouldn’t criticize the writer for the questions. They’re the same dopey ones most people reading the newspaper want to hear the answers to. That’s part of the promo deal. Plus the disconnect between AI Taylor and the “real” Taylor is pretty big.

Chris R singing “Wanted Dead or Alive” Good bye Chris.

  • Boulder Soul

Some things to ponder about tonight. What kind of hat will Phil wear? Cowboy? Will Blake pronounce the Ps, or will it be Living on a Brayer? Who will put on the tight rock trousers? Will Randy openly weep after Jordin sings? Will we be able to piece together Paulaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s babble to uncover the meaning?

    RHER:

Good questions, but just seeing the wordsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ tight rocker trousers and Randyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ in such close proximity, makes me openly weep. LOL

Taylor Hicks To Buy A Lake Property at The Oaks

We’re anticipating a lot of fun at our Grand Opening Event on May 19th!

    Why?
Well, for starters, we’re welcoming The Oaks’ newest property owner, Taylor Hicks, and he’ll be here to welcome fellow property owners and appointment holders.

    http://www.theoaks-gpi.com/home/

The sound you hear is the stampede of SPers rushing to buy lakefront property. lmao!

  • Metta

Who do you guys think TPTB want in the finale–from a ratings perspective? Which combo would provide the most suspenseful/interesting final two show?

  • JJ

Is this a private conversation among a chosen few or can I join in?

You’re never invited, but you keep butting in anyway. Why stop now?

  • JJ

Well, for starters, weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re welcoming The Oaksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ newest property owner, Taylor Hicks, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be here to welcome fellow property owners and appointment holders.

Its also the sound of current owners putting their for sale signs up. Is this place stupid or what?????

Especially since the property is affordable.

  • jersey

Wow, Taylor, think twice about broadcasting your home’s location. You have stalkers galore.

ETA: When the hell did Taylor have time to house hunt?

Metta, I think TPTB want a Jordin/Blake finale. It wouldn’t really matter who wins. Both are marketable.

  • radname

uh oh, you can call a number to attend the event. The former owners there aren’t going to be happy

  • Metta

Jersey – I agree that they want Jordin and Blake for the finale. I don’t know how marketable Blake will be post-Idol, though. What is his gendre (tm Bo)?

Re. Tay’s property, it’s doubtful he’d do public promo for some place he’ll actual live at. It’s probably just an investment.

  • jpfan

Taylor’s probably getting the property FOR FREE and they’re using him for promotion. Still a weird thing to do for a guy who wants to keep his private life private. I think they want Jordin/Melinda but I don’t think of the any of the match ups will generate any spike in the ratings.

  • Paula

I hope Taylor’s property is a gated community for his and other homeowners’ sake.

  • Kirsten

Well, for starters, weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re welcoming The Oaksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ newest property owner, Taylor Hicks, and heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be here to welcome fellow property owners and appointment holders.

Goodness gracious, land is CHEAP in Alabama. I think that I need to buy some lake front property there and commute. It would be cheaper than trying to buy some around here (then, I would just have to figure out how to get rid of that annoying neighbour who plays his darn harmonica all night long)

I wonder how much they knocked off the price to get Taylor to do promo for them?

All snarking aside, I bet Bon Jovi is a good coach. The showà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s track record for coaches this season is excellent. Most of them appear to have taken a real interest in the contestants and have provided constructive advice.

I wasn’t too impressed when Jon Bon Jovi said in an interview last season that he saw AI artists as lounge singers and that he wished they would sing their own songs instead of wrecking the songs of real artists.

    about the oaks

The Oaks is your gateway to spectacular Lake Guntersville, a 70,000-acre recreational paradise which boasts over 950 miles of shoreline and a reputation as the top largemouth bass fishing lake in the country.

Here, where rolling hills meet the sparkling water’s edge, we have created The Oaks. This gorgeous lakeside community features premium amenities including a gated entrance, clubhouse, two marinas, a boat launch, paved roads, and underground utilities…..

…..At our New Phase Release on Saturday, May 19th, properties will be shown by appointment only on a first-come, first-served basis. Plus, The Oaks’ newest property owner Taylor Hicks, of American Idol fame, will be on hand to greet fellow property owners and appointment holders!

    http://www.theoaks-gpi.com/about_the_oaks/

Using Taylor to sell property seems odd. Are they hoping his deluded stalkers will pay any price to get near him?

I think it’s just the cachet of having anybody famous living there. “Oh, yes, Buffy and I just purchased a lake shore property where one of those American Idol people lives. It’s a pain in the a$$, but I guess they have to let reality show millionares live somewhere”. That’s also why famous hotels will comp rooms to famous people (“Oh, I stayed at the same hotel as Madonna did when she was in Vail” “Er…no..she was there 5 years before me”).

So, these sorts of things aren’t done just for the fans. They are done for namedroppers everywhere. I’ve even seen hotels with pictures of all the heads of state that have stayed there posted outside the conference room.

Houses in LA are even said to be worth more if a movie star used to live there.

    See here :

    http://www.tv.com/tracking/viewer.html?tid=91690&ref_id=69959&ref_type=104

Kevin Costner’s loss is Ryan Seacrest’s gain. The American Idol host and E! News anchor, 31, has bought the Rumor Has It star’s Hollywood Hills spread for $11.5 million, the Los Angeles Times reports.

Costner’s former home in the Hollywood Hills

Costner has owned the Spanish-style 10,000-sq.-ft. gated residence à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ which has five bedrooms, a media room, billiards room, tennis court, gym, pool, spa and staff quarters à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ since 1995, but has been too busy making movies lately to enjoy it, according to the Times.

RE : Taylor Hicks’ lakefront property…

Something just occured to me — The site has his name PROMINENTLY DISPLAYED as one of their “newest property owners”.

Think of yourself as Taylor Hicks ( put yourself in his shoes ). Would you really want to openly advertise your purchase to the world and the fact that you are planning to build a house there to live in and have some crazy fan break into your house to ask for your autograph even as you are not in one of your most decent attire ?

    I know I wouldn’t.

Therefore, my feeling is he’s doing this for investment purposes only.

  • madaboutu

I’m sneakin in to see what’s being talked about. RE: Bucky. Dang, that guy works fast and he and his wife are just separated aren’t they? Not divorced yet?
Re: Taylor property. Gramma Hicks is in Real Estate so I’ll bet there is a connection. Land is a good investment and at that price, I could afford two lots! The highest price wouldn’t even make a down payment on a condo here.
Someone posted a very nice Meet and Greet between Taylor and a young boy. It was that same day as that O.C. interview.
SoCal concerts start tomorrow. The KOST people are looking forward to them.
Season six: I thought I knew who would go home, but now not so sure, since there are two. On Wednesday my attention will be elsewhere though.

Kim Lockeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s new cd was released today. Has anyone heard any of the songs? Is it any good?

Well, here’s her latest charting single — CHANGE. Not much buzz about it even as it nips the edges of the AC Top 10 ( currently ranked #11 ).

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g-Lq5xssr0M

Kim Locke is one of the least promoted, least pimped contestants in AI but perhaps one of the most talented.

I’ve said this before and I’ll say this again — Jordin Sparks is the second coming of Kimberly Locke ( heck they even look similar and have similar built ).

  • SpenserJ

    hmmà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦I guess he got a discount by doing thisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Most definitely so and probably a deep, deep discount. Celebrity endorsements of new development projects are nothing new and not really all that uncommon. You will see an increase in these types of strageties the longer we stay in what can be interrupted as a buyer’s market.

Typically, what happens is the celebrity gets their lot for next to nothing. If the celebrity actually builds anything on the lot (a big if), they may use it sparingly as a vaction residence. The smart celeb holds onto it for five years or more, until the project is completely built out and their property has reached a much higher value, then sells.

Rarely, if ever, will a celebrity endorse a project that they plan on living in full time. And, all descriptions of Taylor’s hoped for future indicate he doesn’t plan on living anywhere full time for a very long time. So, if there are rush of SPer’s who buy lots in the hope of fishing on Sunday’s down by the dock with Mr. Hicks, sadly I believe they will be disappointed.

Also, typically before you can get an appointment, the developer will require proof that you can actually buy what they’re offering. So, this won’t be an easy way to get your IYT cd signed either.

On a side note: I won’t be home tonight to watch the show, I’ll have to catch it later on the DVR. So I’ll miss chatting with the mjer’s :(

  • SpenserJ

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve said this before and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll say this again à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Jordin Sparks is the second coming of Kimberly Locke ( heck they even look similar and have similar built ).

Me thinks Miss Sparks is not even in Kimberly’s league. For me, although I think Jordin is talented, she’s had several performances that I would definitely call less than stellar. Even though the judges would have you believe otherwise.

And, for all of you Kim Locke fans – you should check out Celebrity Fit Club this week since it appears that Kimberly lays the verbal smack down on Screech. I have no idea when this show actually airs, but VH-1 replays it about 30 times a week, so you should be able to catch it.

For those who want to reminisce or weren’t there to wintess it — Hers is one most unique Hollywood Group auditions ever.

She and Frenchie Davis clearly outsang all the other contestants that when it came to choose groupmates for the group auditions, NO ONE WANTED TO PARTNER WITH KIM or FRENCHIE for fear of being outsang.

The result was a duet between Kim and Frenchie — BAND OF GOLD — one of the best Hollywood group auditions ( or duets ) ever in American Idol history.

    Hi all!

I was going to post a bit yesterday about the Taylor Hicks Denver concert, but hanging out with Boulder Soul brings out my self-indulgent side. Yesterday I was sporting a hangover from too many vodkas downed on Sunday night. Problem with vodka is that they don’t do much for me when I drink them, but I always feel terrible the next day! Couple that with a 2nd grade science project to cajole (momspeak for force) my daughter to do….

Boulder is the most fun person to attend a concert with. We danced practically the whole concert (I felt guilty about the folks behind us and sat down through two numbers, then said to heck with it and was on my feet the rest of the time).

Question: Why buy expensive (5th row) seats if you are going to sit there like a bump on a log and not even crack a smile?

The Denver Post review wasn’t really how I would characterize the concert. “Plastic” is a weird word. Of course, this is Denver, which fancies itself as a super cool place (too bad those who believe this are sadly mistaken).

I thought the band was tight and the show was really tight. The bass player was funky great and the guitar player was really good too.

Taylor was in great voice. I was surprised he could sing, dance and play at altitude, uninterrupted, for about 90 minutes and never seem winded. He is one spectacular performer.

I thought the pacing of the show was really good. By the end, the crowd was whipped up and we were all having fun (save the two folks next to me). My favorites of the evening were the Pink Floyd “Another Brick in the Wall” tag, “Heaven Knows”, and Elton John’s “Take Me to the Pilot”. Also, they did a great arrangement of “Give Me Tonight” which was far less disco and much more driving.

You know you are having a great night when you feel like you could listen (and dance) for another 2 hours. That’s the way I felt. The evening went far too fast and I had far too much fun.

PS: Did I mention how great the band was? Hope next time Taylor comes through town, he has the same band, because I would pay twice as much to see that group again!

Oh, this is too cute! Fantasia, Taylor, Reuben, Bo, Kellie & Clay are easy to identify, but I’m not sure I would be able to name the 3 on the very left side without the “southern” hint – is the brunette Kelly Clarkson (from Texas) and Carrie the blonde next to her? Okay, I may cave in and watch the remaining episodes of Dancing With The Stars. Whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s left in the competition and who are people rooting for?

Oh, you simply must start watching! Left are: Cliff from Cheers, Achy Breaky hanna Montana’s dad, Ian Zeiring, Joey Fatone, Apolo Anton Ono (or however the heck you spell that) & Laila Ali. Did I miss anybody?

I’m hoping for a Laila, Apolo, Ian final 3. But, the judges love Joey, so Ian doesn’t have a prayer. Laila & her partner Maks are my absolute faves – I’m 99% sure they’re the two hottest people on the planet. Both of their dances last night were superb.

Apolo is also adorable – and I’d be happy to see him win too. Plus, he’s really good.

  • JJ

Laila Ali is really beautiful. Man, but that voice !!! WOW.. I don’t like Billy Ray’s partner.. she’s alittle crabby. I course, I would be too if I haven’t eaten in a week, either. Everyone having a good day????

The thing I love about Laila is that she could bitch slap any of those men into submission and she knows it and she owns it, yet she is also kind, and feminine and sometimes giggly at the same time. She’s a strong, powerful, gorgeous woman. And, although her career choice may seem a bit odd to most women, I’d rather have my daughter look up to someone like her than say the Lindsey Lohans and Paris Hiltons of the world. Okay, I think my girl crush has gotten completely out of hand at this point.

I’m not sure that Billy Ray’s partner is crabby. I think she might just be a grade A biatch. She’s a fabulous dancer with an incredible body, but the bitchface that is attached to it makes me a little afraid of her.

  • Paula

    Ditto.

Karina definitely comes off as a bitch. I remember her being very, very visibily annoyed when she and Mario (who’s a total tool) didn’t win last season. Billy Ray is such a sweetheart…and Karina has no qualms about showing how unhappy she is to be paired with a less than able “dancer”…it kills me.

I love Joey and Apollo, but Joey’s definitely my favorite. I admit that it’s kind of unfair to the others because he has so much dance experience, but whatever…he’s jus so entertaining when he dances!!

  • RollTide

I love Apolo and Joey. :)

    Another interesting article from HDD:

    http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi

The folks from NPD still insist people like music, though they canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t tell us why theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re not buying more of it.

At this yearà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s NARM session, NPD’s Russ Crupnick ran through a truckload of pie charts with some surprising and not-so-surprising results. First off, in surveying 13-65 year-olds, there appears to be no shortage of enthusiasm for music, the continuing downtrend in music sales notwithstanding.

The thing I love about Laila is that she could bitch slap any of those men into submission

And in response to the perception that too many artists release their albums late in the year:

    http://www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news06636m01

When asked about the Q4 glut, Quinn defended the labelsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ position saying that many artists drive the agendaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ both as marketing tools in front of spring tours as well as ego-related needs to see a big burst of sales. Katz reiterated that most of the top sellers are released outside the holiday window and exhorted he industry to keep a more even flow throughout the year on any given artist to give fans more opportunities to buy product on the same act. To that end, he said we should be releasing more music on any given artist in many configurations, including physical singles.

The topic turned to in-store appearances and whether or not tours could slow down a bit to make artists more available for promotional purposes. Quinn noted that it takes about $10k a week to keep a tour on the road and slowing down could bankrupt them.

  • Desdemona

I’m enjoying all the DWTS contestants this year, and Apolo has been awesome from the beginning, but man! last night Joey owned the place! I love Billy Ray’s sweet personality and he’s got a lot of fans, so though he’ll probably be in the bottom 2 tonight, I’m thinking John (Cliff) will be the one to go.

Laila is STUNNING! Her quickstep last night was just about perfection and in that white dress she was absolutely gorgeous! Wish she didn’t have such a man-voice, and I didn’t care for her Samba moves, or the costume.
Oh, and Max is also gorgeous! He’s the best of the professional male dancers, IMO! Love to watch him move.

I think Ian’s partner, Cheryl, is the best of the professional female dancers, but it’s time for one of the other girls to ‘win’ this year! Besides, Ian’s not as good as Joey & Apolo – OR Laila!

Karina needs to lighten up! The other dancers take the criticism so much better than she does!

  • FOTIAI

Maybe Mario Lopez isn’t giving her the good lovin’!!! TMZ has them going out on the town almost every night – they have finally come out and said they are an item

  • Metta

Nevada – Thanks for the posts. Very interesting. Why do YOU think music sales are down if interest in music remains high?

If Taylor bought on Lake Guntersville it’s only to throw off the stalkers! I doubt he’ll live there.

Although if it’s in Scottsboro it’s the northern edge which is close to nothing.

Alabama does have some cheap lake property in comparison to the north but “dual waterfront lots with boating access” could mean the end of a creek where there’s water 4 months of the year.

I suspect he’ll sneak down to Lake Martin when no one is looking and buy a nice getaway (not far from Auburn).

I AM FUEL, YOU ARE FRIENDS blogspot

Q: I love Ray LaMontagne, and I thought it was great when you were talking about your choice to cover his song “Trouble” on American Idol and saying à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“my whole goal is to let people see about that music that’s real and not to let it slip.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ But did you ever feel like you were speaking . . . a foreign language during the time you were on AI with tastes for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“realà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ music?

Taylor: To a certain degree, yeah. It was a very tough task. But I found that the love of performing, I mean that was my true gig. You listen to whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s popular now, pop radio, and . . . I really want to keep real music in the forefront. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been touring that idea, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be touring that idea forever.

I went to see Ray LaMontagne right when that Trouble album came out, about two years ago. I like him. I like his recorded music better. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s obviously, it seems to me, a performer that doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really like being there.

Metta – thanks for that link. That was a very good interview. And I particularly enjoyed the comment post from our old friend Dingo! Dingo, are you there?

I had tickets to see Ray, but had to give them to my friend. She said exactly what is said above. He was not comfortable performing at all.

You know, I thought it was OK to snark on ALL idols here?? So, good luck to the black haired gimmick boy and, because this just isn’t said enough: GO TEAM INDIFFERNCE!!!

  • AFan

get over yourself Taylor, he’s so lame.

Hmmm, there is alot of people I can say that about.

JJ, not telling you not to snark. Not one bit. Bring it on sistah. :)

Blake’s gonna kick ass tonight and that’s ALL that fucking matters. Spoilers are in and he is back and with a vengeance.

    It is :)

The Plaidster is doing “You Give Love a Bad Name” with only drums. I can hardly contain my excitement! No one can claim he doesn’t take risks. :clap_tb:

Metta – thanks for that link. That was a very good interview. And I particularly enjoyed the comment post from our old friend Dingo! Dingo, are you there?

Gray Charles also commented on the interview. It was nice to see an interview with some substance.

  • pj

Gotta go take a shower before the show. I’ll see y’all in chat.

  • http://www.myspace.com/swood1104 Sarah

No one can claim he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t take risks.

    Oh I’m sure they can.

Hey, didn’t 311 or Jamiroquai sing it that way once?? Surely one of his fave artists did… after all, he has no originality and is just a gimmick, yanno! ;)

  • Metta

    Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be taking drink orders at the barà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ ;)

I’ll take a virgin pina colada, please. I’ve also gotten into Shirley Temples lately–just go easy on the grenadine :)

  • radname

Taylor does come across a bit self entitled to me at times.

  • madaboutu

Hey…………just got home and going over the posts. Man, you guys have been entertaining today. Can’t wait to read tomorrow after the boots.
AFan………… Taylor’s damned if he doesn’t say anything and damned if he does. He’s damned if he moves around and damned if he doesn’t. My advice Try not to read anything about him.
If Blake dyes his hair black, I am sure they will up the makeup with a rosy tone. Otherwise he will glow.

  • JJ

Blakeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gonna kick ass tonight

The only ass gimmick boy can kick is Metta’s and I will be rooting for that one.

The Plaidster is doing à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Give Love a Bad Nameà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ with only drums. I can hardly contain my excitement!

Me neither, but for probably totally different reasons than you.

Nevada – Thanks for the posts. Very interesting. Why do YOU think music sales are down if interest in music remains high?

Also, why do some tours make money (Taylor seems to think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s how heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll make his living) and others end up in the red?

I suspect that CD sales are down because there are too many albums out there with 3 or 4 good songs (if that; I’m being generous) — and all too often, no GREAT songs — surrounded by or buried under so much mediocre filler.

Why pay for 12 tracks when you only like a couple of songs? For that matter, why pay for any music if the songs you do like are in heavy rotation on the radio, far beyond the point of saturation?

The cynical view is, of course, that it’s easy to express “interest” in music as long as it doesn’t cost you any money. I’m kind of interested in a yacht….

As for touring, it can be a double-edged sword. While there are mega-acts who can fill stadiums, those shows tend to be extremely expensive to produce. I was just reading about a Britney Spears concert tour a few years back that brought in nearly $24 million in ticket sales but was so costly that her net after expenses was only about 8% (say $1.9 million) before assorted management fees and taxes.

There’s definitely money to be made on tour, including through merchandising, but the trick is to control costs so that expenses don’t consume every dime AND to develop a fanbase that will come out to see you when you’re in town.

Taylor did reasonably well first time out, based on what I’ve seen on Boxscore.

  • Metta

Nevada – Thanks for your response. I always enjoy reading your observations on these things.

  • AFan

Hmmm, there is alot of people I can say that about.

    There sure are.

    AFanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s damned if he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say anything and damned if he does. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s damned if he moves around and damned if he doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t. My advice Try not to read anything about him.

He didn’t say anything that bad. He just needs to get over himself with his damn artistry talk. Hes not gods gift to music and hes not as talented as he thinks he is. My opinion of course.

Yep, your right. Doesn’t he know that he should only be talking that artistic stuff when his cd sales are over 2 million.. Shame on him..

  • sexygirl

Speaking of entitlement, Radname, what is new on the Kat front? When is she going on tour?

  • pj

Jordin has red streaks in her hair. Is she gimmick girl?

  • Lisa

I don’t know about a gimmick girl, but she is a hot mess singing.

  • dave

Metta thank you for the link. That is a great site.

I have to say that I like Ray L live more than his studio CDs. His voice unleashes very nicely live.(whatever the fuck that means). Most of the time I listen to Ray’s live recordings instead of his studio CDs.

Its been said Taylor was drunk and singing Sam Cooke songs to Ray.

Maybe that is what made Ray uncomfortable.

    —————————-

I hate to say it but I liked Phil tonight. WTF is happening to me?!?!?

He is now Philtastic instead of AwPhil.

  • t2

Phil was totally and completely awesome. This was the performance that I have been waiting for from him.

I guess Paula and Randy didn’t get the cue card that says “Please remember, we put Phil first for a reason….his votes are too high so please take Simon’s cue and diss Phil without merit.”

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Of course Taylor comes off as a bit full of himself at times. To slog it out for ten years in bars, making almost no money, to continually promote yourself to people…you HAVE to believe you have talent. Most artists and entertainers do. I don’t have a problem with any of the Idols being full of themselves, really, and yes, Taylor’s “I’m an ARTISTE” talk is snarkworthy, but I don’t think it’s like a reflection on his character or anything like that..

Phil was awesome tonight. Guess it just lends more credence to the pre-scripted credits theory.

  • pfeeder

Seems rad is busy, so let me share what I know:

No Kat news for today. She is doing a bunch of radio concerts, but no real “tour” has been announced yet.

However. Kat will be Montreal on May 5th to make a radio appearance, and to attend (but not perform) what seems like a fairly posh “Denim and Diamonds” fundraiser:

    http://www.matin.qc.ca/articles/20070419112407/katharine_mcphee_damerican_idol_montreal_pour_une_bonne_cause.html

Before that, in a radio station promo, one lucky Quebecois (?) will get the opportunity to SHOP with Kat:

“Over It” actually hit Top 10 in Canada airplay-wise, so she is pretty popular there.

Lu – lmao! How many diff versions of Elliott Yamin cds are out there in the world? ;)

à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Over Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ actually hit Top 10 in Canada airplay-wise, so she is pretty popular there.

    Is nowhere safe?

  • Lu

Metta – lol – This is only 4 songs performed live. One is a new one – Easy Lover (Phil Collins). Elliott has kept me hopping. It’s like being on a never ending song scavenger hunt!

  • day-tripper

    “and yes, Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m an ARTISTEà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ talk is snarkworthy, but I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s like a reflection on his character or anything like that..”

It only makes him SEEM like a ginormous tool
    :wink_wp:

  • WVIdolFan

I thought Lakisha and Blake were the best tonight. I enjoyed Jordin’s song and didnt think she was nearly as bad as the judges said. Phil was good but just doesnt connect with me. Melinda was good but didnt impress me like she did the judges. I thought Chris was very nasally and the worst. This is the first time a contestant got to me enough this year for me to vote. I voted nonstop for lakisha for 45 min. with hardly any busy signals. Not a good thing. Looks like shes in trouble this week. I love Bon Jovi music and Jon doesnt seem to age but just gets better looking. :)

  • pj

Me neither, but for probably totally different reasons than you.

JJ, he exceeded my expectations!!! Hope it was just as good for you! :smile_wp:

  • Crazymomelon

    Taylor on Ray LaMontangne:
All he said was that Ray didn’t seem like he enjoyed performing live. How is this ‘diva’ talk by Taylor?
Jaysus. When he offers one-syllable answers to the same set of twenty questions, he gets beat up. When he offers a real opinion, he’s slammed for being “full of himself”. It’s a wonder the guy ever opens his mouth beyond “boxers or briefs”.

  • sammy

Loved Blake tonight…look and song. Dialidol has Jordin in first place and Lakisha and Chris last. Phil did okay, I guess, but there is just something about him that annoys me so much that I can’t listen objectively. I’ll take your word for it that he did well.

  • weelassie

I’ve looked everywhere for the Save the BeatBoxer, Save the World post but can’t find it.
To whoever posted that today, thanks, made me smile:)

Tour Dates have been announced (they are running it until Sept 22nd….why do they always learn the wrong lessons?):
