Some contestants in finals show promise; others… not so much

…However, Idol bloggers and entertainment Web sites galore have criticized Doolittle for her à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“aww shucksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ attitude each week, some going as far as saying the former backup singer is a fake.

‘Idol’ themes not as they seem
Some singers on the hot TV program are being allowed to do songs that don’t fit each show’s musical mandate.

…Although recorded by a British singer, Shirley Bassey, the song originates from the musical “Oliver!” — not the rock and pop songs that made up the British Invasion. Bassey’s single also came out in 1960, the same year as the musical, which was a few years before the mid-’60s British Invasion began with artists such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones…

American Idol: Bettors go Against Howard Stern

Who needs Dancing when there’s Sanjaya!

…Doolittle, who is clearly Idol’s emerging star, closed last Tuesday’s program. Idol generally scrambles the order from week to week but Fox could argue she has earned the star’s traditional show-closing position until a genuine challenger emerges. LaKisha Jones seemed to own that role until a lackluster showing last Tuesday. Now Jordin Sparks, who has blossomed the past couple of weeks, might be Melinda’s most formidable challenger.

Another option would be to save Sanjaya for last, then just before he sings run a promo that Dancing With the Stars is starting on ABC, to sabotage his vote and finally get him off the show. Whatever it takes.

LaBelle, Hudson shine at US gay media awards

…R&B diva LaBelle received a special achievement award, presented by Hudson, for championing gay and lesbian rights and participation in the fight against HIV/Aids.

“I didn’t know you were this nice,” LaBelle told Hudson at the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation’s 18th annual media awards. “I thought you were a bitch,” she joked, noting that she had never met Hudson before their joint appearance.

LaBelle spent most of her acceptance speech praising Hudson, a losing American Idol contestant won an Oscar last month for her debut portrayal of a pop singer in the musical Dreamgirls.

In a passing-of-the-torch moment that brought a cheering audience to its feet, the pair launched into an a cappella rendition of Nobody Knows the Trouble I’ve Seen. Hudson appeared astonished by LaBelle’s tribute, saying “You are who I idolise”…

“Idol” results shows to be longer, sooner

Fox will switch to one-hour “American Idol” results shows a month earlier than planned.

The results editions of the singing competition scheduled for April 11, April 18 and May 2, which were supposed to be half-hours, now will run from 9-10 p.m.

The change was made at the request of the hit show’s producers, sources said. With the contestants’ star coaches performing during recent results shows, the singers voted off had not being able to do their farewell performance lately. The April 11 “Idol” result show now will be preceded by a one-hour season finale of the freshman comedy “‘Til Death.”

On American Idol, being one of the worst can turn out for the best

Sanjaya Malakar, the painfully tone-deaf 17-year-old American Idol contestant, is not alone.

Since the hugely popular Fox series began in 2002, many underdog finalists have managed to hang on, while more talented singers were ousted.

    MyNetworkTV will try Plan B

…WHEN I FIRST glanced at the cover of last week’s edition of TV Guide, I thought it was a parody. Or a joke.
But, no, the magazine and its cover subject were both serious. And there was “American Idol” judge Paula Abdul saying, “My integrity and reputation are at stake! Simon à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ you’ve got to stop this, please.”
The story inside was an old one about how fellow “Idol” judge Simon Cowell tripped her up and made her look foolish (crazy?) on the air.
But it’s all ridiculous. Abdul’s reputation and integrity are not at stake because she has no reputation to protect and no integrity to fall back on.
Remember, even Fox’s phony “internal investigation” did not clear Abdul of charges she slept with a contestant in 2003. It just determined (big laugh here) that the sexual relationship didn’t influence the outcome of the show.
Paula, dear, your reputation has been ruined already. And maybe you ought to look up the definition of “integrity” so you can stop claiming to have any.

Watery wine from a bunch of sour grapes
    Television review

PAULA Abdul spends every week on American Idol tearfully gushing about “feeling all the colours of your soul” after some contestant has just murdered a Celine Dion song. She’s not the most discriminating person on the planet. Yet even Paula knew to steer clear of the latest scheme by the show’s producers – which should have been their first clue it really wasn’t a good idea.

Ken Warwick and Nigel Lythgoe – once feebly known as Nasty Nigel when he was a mildly acerbic judge on Popstars – are the executive producers of American Idol, So You Think You Can Dance and America’s Got Talent, three of the biggest TV shows over the pond. They’ve been friends for 44 years since school in Liverpool and, with Simon Cowell and his partner-in-crime Simon Fuller, are largely responsible for the revival of the TV talent show that had pretty much died out in the 1970s with Opportunity Knocks and New Faces…

Idol torn apart by the Sanjaya Schism
Fanjayas vs. all people who can hear

…Come to think of it, if Sanjaya donned a fake moustache and red pirate’s hat, he would be a dead ringer for the rum mascot. Especially during last week’s “performance” of The Kinks’ “You Really Got Me.”

American Idol always finds new ways to divide viewers. This season, it’s those who admire the vaguely feral Sanjaya (The Fanjayas) versus those who do not (The Humans With Hearing)…

…The important thing, I guess, is that Sanjaya isn’t prone to hyperbole.

“Being able to have Diana Ross mentor you is like having Van Gogh teach you how to paint,” he said two weeks ago.

Dude, if Vincent Van Gogh was in the same area code as you he would cut off his other ear. Seconds later, Sanjaya bounced around in his Baby Gap wardrobe and hairdo that screamed recent electrocution, butchering his way through Ross’s “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”…

Page 34 article titled “Barba Doll” under the Pop Life section. It’s is an interesting view of American Idol Season 6.

Author calls this season the worst cast and that Idol is doomed without Antonella

(Warning: Full of Snark, read below at your own risk)

    Highlights (or Lowlights)

-Chris Sligh: Found him playing Jack in “Osbournes on Ice”
-Blake Lewis: scatting, ska king, 311-loving, improv-comedy-dabbing-windbag (ouch, I luv Blake)
-Phil Stacey: Bald muppet (reminds author of final scene of “2001″)
    -Sanjaya: Indian El Debarge

Sanjaya line in article: Sorry Sanjaya! No matter how bad you sing, you will clearly have to slaughter a cow on stage the Revolting Cocks “Beers, Steers, & Queers” before America will let you go.

Rolling Stones Magazine doesn’t mince words…

Squishy, is there a link to the last article? The one about this season. (Lisa B already posted the others a few days ago.)

    Jersey,

That last Rolling Stone’s article hasn’t been placed on the internet yet or else I would have provided the link as well.

This morning, an Atlanta Top 40 station (Star 94)was promoting a concert with both Daughtry and Katharine McPhee. It’s called Star Fest and will also have Dashboard Confessional and Augustana. The date is June 2.

    Ok, thanks squishy.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

    Morning!

I pulled this from TWoP (it’s back!), which in turn pulled it from idolforums–the same guy who provided the spoilers that Idol Maniac confirmed:

Sanjaya Malakar – He wanted to sing “Bathwater”. She tried to get him to sing some 80′s song. He said he was a big fan and he really wanted to do one of her songs. Gwen was upfront with him and told him she didn’t think he could pull it off but gave him the benefit of the doubt. Today after seeing how rehearsals were going, she didnt’ see any progress. She went to Nigel immediately and told him she does not want Sanjaya singing one of her songs whatsoever. Sanjaya didn’t have many options at that point. He kind of got stuck with “Sunday MOrning”. This caused a big scene at the studio and was the talk all afternoon.

    and

The entire ten performances fit into the full hour of the show. The extra seven minutes are actually for the return of pretaped Antonella, Sundance, Sabrina, Jared, Stephanie and Brandon recordings (A Capella). People will be able to vote on a 11th line for one of these people to not return back to the show, but to join the tour.

I checked my DVR and sure enough, Idol runs from 8 to 9:07 tonight. Hhhhhhmmm…I kind of doubt the above, but it’s interesting.

I’m on idolforums right now trying to figure out what’s going on. Which says a lot, because I normally avoid IDF like the plague…

  • squishy

That is soooo cool that we can vote to return an Idol to the tour. If I was voting it would be either for Brandon or Stephanie. Stephanie deserves it more.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

I think it’d be awesome…not sure who I’d vote for. Probably none of them, since I don’t particularly like any of them. MAYBE Sundance just for the uncertaintly of what would happen every time he got a mic in his hand. :-)

If they get an 11th person for the tour, do you think that Sanjaya will have a mysterious ailment (bronchitis! laryngitis! broken foot!) and have to drop out? :-)

  • jersey

Oh gee, I can’t begin to guess who will win the “let’s put them on the tour vote” (*cough*Antonella*cough*)
ETA: I don’t think so Kat, I think they want him on tour. He will be a big draw. Phil, however, may not be able to tour because of his military commitment. Maybe they want one more person, just in case Phil cant’ tour.

  • Cathy

I think Sanjaya will do well on the tour. Little girls talk their parents into bringing them to the show. The tour needs some people that all of the little girls will want to see.

I guess they are already anticipating that this years tour will not bring in as much money as last years tour.

  • jpfan

Voting to put someone on the tour. That’s weird. Maybe Phil can’t tour. Chris was very, very funny in the RS interview about how the band got their name. Could Sanjaya be the diva of Season 6? It’s def a guy. Why am I in italics?

  • http://www.myspace.com/mignonette33 purplesmile

My post got cut off… :-/

Anyway, I was saying I hope Stephanie gets that chance to go on the tour. But perhaps TPTB is hoping it would be Antonella, who could potentially bring in lots more people to the tour.

    It was JJ.

Maybe. But Sanjaya on tour — if he continues to perform badly — really damages the show’s credibility. And they’ve worked hard to build up cred.

    Memories made of music

So Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m watching à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ last week, which is not my usual habit, to put it mildly. And there, as big as my TV set will allow them to be, were two people I never thought Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d see again à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Peter Noone of Hermanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Hermits and Lulu. Both were far smarter, more street tough and likable than I could ever have expected.

It was à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“British Invasion Night,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ as youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll recall. Sanjaya sang the Kinksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“You Really Got Meà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and, by God, sweet-looking little girls were crying ecstatic tears of joy (heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s the new Fabian, I tell you à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ no talent but he drives the girls nuts.)

    But, hey, for a while now Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been listening to a three-disc set called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“The British Beat: Best of the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢60à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢sà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ (Shout! Obviously, they couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t afford Sir Mickà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s and Sir Paulà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s prices. Or Hermanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Hermits, eitherà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

I’m pretty sure JJ has to do it. (or MJ)

I think Antonella would draw more people to the tour than the others. Of course, having both Antonella and Sanjaya on the tour would make it a joke.

Yeah, that’s what I figured purple. Anyway, to check, just look and see if the em tag is closed with a /em tag.

I’m thinking it will be the person they believe will bring in the MOST money..They’ve gone into desperation mode trying to save their sinking ship. Some of those listed extend beyond the TOP 12.

Good. So that means I can turn to DWTS at 9:00..I won’t be wasting my time listening to voted off contestants try to win a spot on tour. By the way, where’s the jazz singer? How come she is not on the list of returned rejects…I hope she was snatched up by someone and is making good use of her time.

I really feel for Sanjaya. I can’t believe what this show is dong to this 17 year old. They put him on the show only to be made fodder for the show and news articles. How desparate can a show be? There are more silly articles on Sanajaya than any of the other contestants. You mean to tell me there is nothing to print about them.

    Good morning, all.

So many Sanjaya articles. Thanks for the links, lisa. :)

I’m looking forward to this evening’s show. Based on the provided song choices, while last week looked promising, this week looks to be the train wreck that TV I’ve come to know and love. For every good song choice (Blake), there’s an equally dismal choice (Phil). Nevertheless, should be a fun to watch and snark.

Dingo, there’s something you may be interested in seeing. It has something to do with the guy who won AI last year, a sticky sweet substance that bees make, and the town Elvis was born in. It’s brief, but nice:

    http://www.gofish.com/player.gfp?gfid=30-1092295

Oh, and a shameless plug: For those that like alternative with an acoustic flare, may I suggest Moses Mayfield from B’Ham. I saw them live last last year and they’re very good. Their first major label album drops today, and I’ll be leaving a bit earlier than normal so I can pick up a copy on my way to the office. :)

The list only includes the last 6 booted (two finalists and the 4 that were booted during the last week of semi-finals).

I’m hoping this spoiler is fake. Not only is 1/6th of 7 minutes not much time to prove that you deserve to be on a tour (especially with commercials), but America already voted and Stephanie came in 11th.

This seems kind of desperate to me and reminds me of something Survivor does to try to spice up the ratings (didn’t they have people vote in and pick a former survivor to award 1 million dollars to?).

  • Sagie

Thanks Db, what a great way to start the day! Taylor is really sounding fantastic!

The voting is different than AI. I don’t think you can vote as many times as you would like. I thought I heard the female announcer said you’re allowed 11 votes. IMO, those three in the bottom sound right. I would replace either Leeza or Heather with Ms.Shandi because she was not doing anything but posing last night she was not really doing the Mambo.

Apolo, Joey and Laila Ali were all good last night.

I read somewhere that the military might not allow one of theirs to be on the tour, basically too many weeks away from the job. Since Phil is in the final 10, I’m betting the vote is for his replacement on the tour.

Didn’t Gracin go on the tour? And IIRC he was in actual danger of being deployed, instead of being in…the Navy band. Or was he out by then?

  • rher

Wow LisaB and thank you! lots of news links this morning. I guess just about everyone has had their Sanjaya/AI is going to hell story. Personally, I think Sanjaya has an okay voice. But could I ever want to listen to a whole album of his songs? No way. Come to think of it, I don’t think I would want to listen to a whole album of any of them. But maybe it you put some of them together, maybe Blake, Chris, Stephanie, and Nicole T (yes, I’m still sad I never heard her again) into a group (like Libery X), that would perhaps make me want to listen.

Thank you Kat for picking out the tidbits from TWoP and IDF. I hate to say it, but I’m liking this gossip. It is very evil! :devil_tb:

I posted a message on MJ’s link specifically talking about the spoilers. The Donna Summer songs? Who what? I had to do some research to see when these were actually made.

Gracin made it to fourth that year, but the Marines did not allow him to tour (IIRC)

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Kirsten you’re right, I looked it up…the Marines said he didn’t complete his training in “the allotted time” and recalled him to duty, so he had to miss the tour.

I wonder what would have happened if — just for the sake of argument — he had won. A tour would be a significantly less profitable draw without the winner.

  • MaryS-NJ

So it’s probably that Phil can’t tour due to his military obligations…

What I want to know: Why do they allow contestants who they know can’t make ALL the committments if they should make as one of the top 10? I mean, it’s one thing if there is an unforeseen medical or family emergency that arises later, but it’s another if there is a known conflict like active military service.

And by the way, when does Phil have time to rehearse and participate on the show if he is on active duty as a recruiter? Is he trying to recruit his fellow Idols, what? Or is he on leave?

As for the contest to pick the one to participate on tour… what are they charging for this vote?

ETA: Also, the PTB picked Sanjaya probably thinking he’d be Covaised. He wasn’t. Now he’s on tour and maybe next year they’ll be more careful about who they choose for the Top 24.

And pardon me while I adjust my tinfoil hat…

    :dunce_tb:

…I predict that either Sabrina or Sundance will win, no matter what. If Sabrina was the original CO, it would be a good way for the PTB to showcase her so that when they sign her later they can justify it based on her tour experience. As for Sundance, so many peeps screamed that he wuz robbed! Personally, I think he was overrated after Hollywood, but he seems to add something missing from the current group.

  • Metta

    Good morning.

They should let us vote on the people who had great auditions but inexpicably didn’t make top 24, like Tami Gosnell, Ebony Jointer or Rachel Zevita.

  • Kirsten

And by the way, when does Phil have time to rehearse and participate on the show if he is on active duty as a recruiter? Is he trying to recruit his fellow Idols, what? Or is he on leave?

He’s probably on leave, but it seems the military thinks that having people on these shows is good PR. In a way, he is recruiting people in the AI audience just be being on the show. It also helps to build support in the general populace and humanizes members of the armed forces (we get to “know” them). Not that we don’t think of them as humans, but bringing a member of the armed forces into our home each week reminds us that those people putting their lives and getting killed are more than just pictures in a newspaper. They have wives and kids and hopes and dreams.

  • MaryS-NJ

    Metta, Great idea!

I would love a chance to vote for my early favorite, Tami Gosnel. I suspect that if she had been put through to the top 24 she would have been one of the front runners. I think that’s why she wasn’t.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Aww, I just found out one of my really good friends just broke off her engagement. Sad…been there, done that. But it’s a lot better to do it early than to get a divorce five years down the road because he wasn’t “the one.”

  • MaryS-NJ

Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s probably on leave, but it seems the military thinks that having people on these shows is good PR. It also helps to build support in the general populace and humanizes members of the armed forces (we get to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ them).

Well, this is a tangent but I’m feeling a pissy after reading this article in Salon magazine “Soldiers on crutches and canes were sent to a main desert camp used for Iraq training. Military experts say the Army was pumping up manpower statistics to show a brigade was battle ready.”.

    From the article:

“…Military experts say they suspect that the deployment to Fort Irwin of injured soldiers was an effort to pump up manpower statistics used to show the readiness of Army units. With the military increasingly strained after four years of war, Army readiness has become a critical part of the debate over Iraq…”

These are soldiers who are recovering from surgery, pregnant women, etc. Some of them have served multiple terms in Iraq or Afghanistan and some of them have been recommended for medical retirement by Army doctors.

I know Phil is in Navy not the Army, but I’m not feeling sanguine about him being used as a recruitment tool in cushy SoCal under the circumstances.

  • Ladybug

Where do I vote for Tami? Show me. What, where, when!

  • MaryS-NJ

Uh, didn’t mean to be a thread killuh…

So, Sanjaya doing Maroon 5? Should be… entertaining at the very least.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

MaryS, I heard about that on the radio the other day. The writer of the article (or one of the articles), Mark (I think) Benjamin, wanted to emphasize that the reports were only coming from one division of the army (the third brigade I think), so it wasn’t a global practice. But on the other hand, he said that this goes on a lot…it’s not unique to this war.

    Sigh.

  • Little Boy Blue

many underdog finalists have managed to hang on, while more talented singers were ousted.

Among the most memorable are Scott Savol, Kevin Covais, Anthony Fedorov, Kellie Pickler and current Idol Taylor Hicksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

What a bunch of BS. This guy managed to lump good ones with the bad ones and even ignored the fact that Simon called at least 2 of the persons mentioned in this group GOOD SINGERS.

  • Lisa B

Wasn’t Phil chosen by the Navy to enter AI by their own contest?

I read somewhere he is assigned to recruitment/music so I would assume he will be able to tour living his dream while drumming up recruits for the Navy.

Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and an “Idol” team will be filming in the Mississippi delta and working with Hurricane Katrina survivors for à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idol Gives Back,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ a pair of special shows that will air 10 days later.

Meanwhile, Abdul was a guest at that Clinton fundraiser on Saturday. She came as the guest of Suzan Hughes, the third wife of late Herbalife founder Mark Hughes.

    Abdul laughed when I asked her about this season’s controversies. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“People donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know how smart I am,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ she concurred when I mentioned her savvy.

She said she thinks Sanjaya Malakar, the kid with the hair, will go on a little longer before heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s excised from the competition. And Paula? She will just keep on keeping on, friends.

In other à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ news, it looks like Elliott Yaminà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s gamble has paid off. I told you a few weeks ago that Sony/ATV Music had signed the former à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ player, made an album and was releasing it through Hickory Records, an indie label. It looks like the self-titled CD will finish around No. 3 for the week with about 100,000 copies sold.

The Yamin news isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t bad, considering the rest of the music business is as dead as it could be. Shares of Warner Music Group, for example, were selling at $16.67 yesterday, down from around $24 on Jan. 1.

Who knows if Tami was any good once she was in Hollywood? I liked her but one song isn’t enough to tell. I do wish they’d shown more of her and a couple of others but that’s water under the bridge now.

I’d probably vote for Sundance to be in the tour if that rumor is true. I don’t like Sabrina at all and Stephanie/Brandon ended up being too boring. I think Sundance would be good in concert even though he wasn’t at his best on tv.

The Sanjaya articles are getting to be downright cruel. He isn’t that bad and isn’t controlling the votes. I hope he’s able to either ignore the bad press or enjoy his 15 mins. for what it’s worth.

    Phil Stacey

    Birthday: January 21, 1978
This bald-headed, active duty U.S. Navy sailor first considered pursuing his singing dreams when he won an on-ship à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“American Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ -like competition amongst his fellow sailors. He was so dedicated to his goal that he missed the birth of his second daughter on audition day of season 6 of “American Idol” (his daughter arrived early!). He currently lives in Jacksonville, FL; however, he grew up in Cincinnati, OH and holds a degree in vocal performance, as well as performs as a U.S. Navy singer. He is married with two children.

    American Idol
I know this isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t the usual stuff youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d see on this blog but, Phil Stacey is a friend of mine, and, a brother in Christ. He is truly a gifted singer and a good husband and friend. I have known Phil Stacey for about 2 1/2 years. Not only is he a fabulous vocalist and dynamic stage performer, he is a great writer and recording artist.

I have been in the Navy Band for a little over 19 years. In all of that time I have never met a more talented vocalist. Phil Stacey was assigned to the Navy Rock Band à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Prideà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ here in Jacksonville Florida. The primary mission of the group was MFR (music for recruiting). The band played in high schools from Atlanta, Georgia to Miami, Florida. Like I said, I have been doing this for 19 years and Navy Band à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Prideà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ in 2005 and 2006 acheived what no other Navy Rock Band has ever acheived in my opinion – à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Rock Star Status.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ …

CBS wins week despite “American Idol”

Here’s a change of pace: CBS won the ratings race last week despite Fox’s “American Idol” sitting atop the ratings chart. Crime drama and NCAA basketball gave CBS the bragging rights.

CBS averaged 11.4 million viewers to Fox’s 11.2 million. Bolstered by “Dancing With the Stars,” ABC pulled in nearly 9 million. NBC ran fourth with 7.4 million. The CW was the choice of 3.1 million.

In the 18-to-49 age group, Fox reigned. CBS placed second, followed by ABC, NBC and The CW.

Here are the Top 20 shows for the week:

Council seeks out LaKisha to promote Flint arts
    American Idol LaKisha watch

A Greater Flint Arts Council board member hopes LaKisha Jones’ rise to stardom will help promote the arts in her hometown as well as the arts council.

Board member Mike Gaylord said the GFAC has invited Flint’s “American Idol” finalist and 1998 Flint Central graduate to join other homegrown talent in a proposed fundraising concert for the nonprofit arts group in late May or early June at The Whiting.

“She’s inspiring so many young people, and the Greater Flint Arts Council is inspiring so many young people,” said Gaylord, who said the idea “makes sense.”…

Please. It’s a private blog (as opposed to a company blog) written by someone who is obviously very religious. It’s not like they’re shoving a copy of the Bible in your face and telling you you’re going to hell if you’re not reading it.

I’m glad none of my friends are “turned off to me” because I’m a Christian.

  • Kirsten

I know Phil is in Navy not the Army, but Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not feeling sanguine about him being used as a recruitment tool in cushy SoCal under the circumstances.

I’m hoping that Phil “putting a human face on the armed forces” will help with those kinds of problems though. Too many times, I’ve heard people in the military refered to as being “stupid” or “grunts” or “gun-crazy” or “they are being paid for what they do so they should just do it”. I think that is what allows those kind of abuses to occur. Some people think that people in the military are “other people, not like us”.

If we think of the people in the military as being like us, we may demand that they get treated better. That they be given proper safety equipment; that they be given proper medical care; that the be treated with dignity. And that, should they have to be sent into battle, they be sent to battle for the right reasons.

  • bean99

I see nothing wrong in Calimari’s comment. I actually feel the same way even though I consider myself a Christian, too.

  • calimari

Please. I can have an opinion on what someone writes on the internet, including “private blogs” altho I don’t really see how a publicly accessed blog can be private. And I am not turned off by any of my friends – all of whom are Xtian. I am turned off by descriptive statements as mentioned in that blog because it gives the illusion that there is something more “special” to that person because of their religious persuasion. Haven’t heard anyone refer to Sanjaya as their “brother in Krishna” or anything like that.

  • calimari

    Thanks, bean99!

  • Lisa B

The comment was from a friend not Phil himself.

I don’t really see how it can effect how you feel about someone. I certainly do not proof read all the things my friends write or say.

Each of us I’m sure will use a turn of phrase that will upset others at sometime or another. That’s life.

  • jersey

I don’t see why what one of Phil’s friends said about Phil would make you not like Phil. His friend chose the words, Phil didn’t.

    ETA: Great minds, Lisa B!

  • JJ

I see nothing wrong in Calimarià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s comment. I actually feel the same way even though I consider myself a Christian, too.

I have to agree with Bean and calimari. I am catholic, my children go to catholic school, but I am turned off by people that always have to include their religious preferences in every statement as if it makes them a better person.

I don’t care if you are christian, buddhist, muslim, jewish, etc. I do care if you are a good person or not, and religion does not dictate that.

  • Lisa B

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why what one of Philà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s friends said about Phil would make you not like Phil. His friend chose the words, Phil didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t.

    Exactly.

Who knows if Tami was any good once she was in Hollywood? I liked her but one song isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t enough to tell. I do wish theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d shown more of her and a couple of others but thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s water under the bridge now.

True bean99, but Tami did get put through by the PTB to the Top 40. I’m guessing she was at least as good in Hollywood as Antonella and Sundance if not better. She was interviewed recently and said that the judges had been really nice and complimentary (which she hadn’t expected due to her “unconventional” looks) to her the whole week.

MaryS, I heard about that on the radio the other day. The writer of the article (or one of the articles), Mark (I think) Benjamin, wanted to emphasize that the reports were only coming from one division of the army (the third brigade I think), so it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t a global practice. But on the other hand, he said that this goes on a lotà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not unique to this war.

That may well be, and makes it more troubling. I’m just sick of all the lies and bull shit surrounding the war and FUBAR situation we created in Iraq. I understand that recruiters are having an almost impossible task given the reality on the ground, but we need more honesty, a real policy and not just political smoke and mirrors.

Sorry… let me take a sweet pill, cuz I’m feeling rather sour about the whole thing at the moment :annoyed_tb:.

  • pj

I don’t care for Phil’s voice or song selections, so that’s enough for me to want him to go soon.

Re: the tour rumor, the logistics of the spoiler don’t make much sense. Are we supposed to vote during the same time period as voting for the others to advance?

ETA: if Chris R really wears shorts when singing “Don’t Speak” I will laugh my butt off.

  • calimari

I’m aware it was a friend of Phil saying that – I can read. The way I read it, though, is that he is saying that Phil’s being a “brother in Chris” is a reason to vote for him. Also – birds of a feather. If Phil has friends who talk like that, he could be of the same ilk. I don’t care for folks wearing their faith on their sleeve. And that’s just not my thing. I didn’t like Phil to begin with, and that article just makes me not relate to him even more. Last year, with Kellie, I was not a country fan. Then, her “dumb country bumpkin” act distanced her even more. Same thing.

  • Metta

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care if you are christian, buddhist, muslim, jewish, etc. I do care if you are a good person or not, and religion does not dictate that.

Aw, and here I was hoping that my lapsed Buddhist status would add reverence to your a$$-kicking.

  • calimari

obviously, I meant brother in christ, not brother in chris. This thing won’t let me edit my comments…

  • radname

This is snark, right? You donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really think she sings live do ya?

I know she doesn’t sing live, but i have heard her sing acapella before, and she sounds the exact same on record.
Also, wow Haley owns and Elvis record, not counting the elvis cds i have, i own about 10 Elvis records. I think if you went to most peoples houses they have atleast one elvis song in their house, even if it’s a cover.

  • Metta

obviously, I meant brother in christ, not brother in chris

Well, he is a rawk god, so we’d understand.

  • Kirsten

If Phil has friends who talk like that, he could be of the same ilk.

I haven’t read this blog entry so I don’t know anything about this friend, but I bet all of the contestants now have a lot more friends than the they did before they were shown on TV.

Maybe this friend is just somebody he met once at church.

Plus, I have a few friends that talk that way and I don’t. We are all annoying in our own ways.

The way I read it, though, is that he is saying that Philà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s being a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“brother in Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is a reason to vote for him.

Every year, there are contestants who people rally around because they are in some way belong to the same group. People from the same area of the country, people from the same ethnic group, people of the same religion, etc. I’m not going to hold that against the contestants. It’s not their fault people vote that way.

  • Lisa B

There’s a few of them being pimped by christian newspapers.

I’m sure they weren’t asked first whether it was ok.

People’s religions, way of life etc don’t bother me as long as they don’t start preaching at me.

  • Metta

Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not going to hold that against the contestants.

You would agree though that when it comes to ***, nothing’s off the table. Right? lol

We are all annoying in our own ways.

    Especially JJ.

  • Lisa B

Anyway the point of posting that blog, was the reference to MFR Music for Recruitment, so I’d assume Phil will go on tour.

  • bean99

It doesn’t have to take much to turn you off a contestant. I can’t stand Lakisha now and can’t even say why other than I don’t like her attitude (and boring songs).

  • radname

I still like Lakisha, if i didn’t hear her performance each week i wouldn’t cry, but she’s not a bad singer

  • mags

LBB- yeah simon said Kellie and Taylor were good singers. yada yada yada……..Thier probably are better singers out there and nobody cares……”holleywood will spit you out”old news…I am tired of it.So heading mjs advice and doing what ray did…..I am tired of Chris D (won rocker god) , Kat the princess(should of won for tweens girls every where). Elliot the sweatheart(should of won)and Tay (who won-anti idol).I guess it is thier rapid fans then season six

The thing hapening to Sanjaya yeah it is bad but it happened last year too(taylor, kellie, kevin ) and probably the years before…I think AI is surprised that he lasted this long and the yungster is being hammered. Maybe like kevin who took in stride will get a disney movie and will be remembered in the long term more than the others.

    Especially JJ.

Vacations normally put me in a good mood.

  • MN Sue

Good morning all. Interesting topic today. There are times I wish I knew nothing of a contestant’s private life. Maybe the fact that I wrote “contestant” rather than “singer” explains it. Personal info, whether I fully admit it or not, affects my attachment to an artist.

  • LB2

I found this link on TWoP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QylGAL4apnA

It’s a video montage of Blake’s friends visiting him last week at the show. There are a lot of contestant pictures in it having fun at some sort of restaurant or club (everyone but Melinda and Stephanie).

    Team Plaid!

  • Little Boy Blue

The thing hapening to Sanjaya yeah it is bad but it happened last year too(taylor, kellie, kevin

I don’t think you get my point.

I disagree with the writer lumping the likes of Taylor Hicks and Anthony Federov with Sanjaya as bad singers. I believe those two are GOOD SINGERS. They can sustain high notes, have good range, can perform various genres credibly, stay in tune, sound professional and of course, when performing their own genre, are some of the best. The fact that the author would lump good ones with bad ones simply shows his own inability to differentiate who keeps in tune and who doesn’t ( thus, giving his write-up a credibility problem ).

BTW, Sanjaya’s problem isn’t his tunelesness. It is his inability to perform a song without people saying to themselves — this kid belongs in a high school amatuer musical rather than American Idol. He just looks too tentative and lost out there in the big stage.

BTW, I’ve never heard Simon call Kellie a good singer. He did call her many different things ( e.g. a naughty minx, etc ), but commenting on how good her singing is, is something I seldom heard. Taylor Hicks was different. Simon might dislike his dancing and ticks and his gray haired image… but on MORE THAN ONE occasion, he called Taylor a VERY GOOD SINGER ( e.g. TROUBLE, YASB, YOU SEND ME, IN THE GHETTO, LEVON, LIVING FOR THE CITY, SOMETHING, etc… even in his initial audition, Simon never complained about his voice ( in fact he indirectly admitted he had the voice ) ).

Randy and Paula agreed too and so did people like me and millions of others who voted for him ( and no, we voted for him not as a gimmick but because we TRULY felt he deserved it ). We who voted for Taylor are vicariously insulted when someone like this Winnipeg guy comes along and then calls him tuneless and lumps him with Sanjaya.

If Taylor were truly tuneless, then the thousands of people who are paying over $40 to watch his concerts are fools for wasting their money. What a crock of an article !

Good Morning all my brothers and sisters in the blessed name of MJ-hood…

First of all, this girl is a frickin idiot

    MySpace blogger à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹Jà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ has entered her ninth day of starving, reports http://www.hollywood.tv

Let me see, there’s the Iraq war, poverty in our country, homeless children, cats and dogs are dying of tainted food, and she chooses to starve herself over Sanjaya….someone needs the “Get A Life Foundation” to do a little magic….

Secondly, poor Sanjaya….I don’t think he’s tone deaf either…and it just shows you the lack of imagination that reporters have by picking up a thread and repeating it over and over and over, ad nauseum….

    Lastly….GO BLAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Taylor Hicks, Elliott Yamin & Daughtry Complicate New American Idol

Things got very interesting on Idol last week: Some of the players upped their games. Specifically, both Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks raised the stakes of the game, and one of the powerhouses faltered in her song choice. Watching the show last week also made me think of something. Maybe this season seems so bad to most of us because of last seasonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s group. Think about it: Elliott Yamin has incredible vocal talent. He can sing literally anything and is still one of the best vocalists this show has ever seen (thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s nothing; wait until you read my review of his CD).

Chris Daughtry has the whole package: vocals, presence, and rock star looks; Taylor is the entertainer; Ace is the sweetheart with the falsetto; and Bucky is the enthusiastic country boy. Yes, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m talking about the men. The men this year canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t touch the group from last year.

Maybe we should look at them from a different perspective, rather than comparing them to Elliott, Chris, Taylor, Ace, and Bucky because I just know thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s what some of us are doing………..

  • SEXYGIRL

    Chris Daughtry has the whole package: vocals, presence, and rock star looks;

It’s amazing what selling a few cds can do.

Elliott having the best vocals of AI is a bit much, IMO. I love Elliott but that praise was a bit over the top. Just goes to show how much we eat up whatever Simon says. Especially when you had a real pure vocalist like Clay on the show. Who was hated by Simon. I am NOT a Clay fan in any sense of the word but I will give props where it is well deserved. Have Elliott sing anying as clear and pure as Clay and I will change my statement. Also, I realize it’s this writer opinion but…

Chris Daughtry Rocks Headliners (with video)

Chris Daughtry rocked the stage at Headliners last night. Daughtry is the best selling idol from this season, eventhough he didn’t win. Daughtry says a new single will be coming out soon on the radio. The song is called “Home” which is the song played during this year’s Idol when a contestant is voted off…

    Taylor’s Band – Weaknesses ;)

    http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=taylorhicksmusic

    Taylor’s such a crackup!

  • cateye

I have to agree with you Sexygirl…..I think both Elliott and Clay are excellent vocalists, but I prefer Clay’s style more than Elliott’s–mainly due to the vibrato in Elliott’s voice…

But, I’m glad the National Ledger writer is FINALLY giving everyone kudos….if memory serves me correctly, she had a stick up her butt about Taylor, so calling him an “entertainer” is probably the highest compliment she’s ever paid him….

  • SEXYGIRL

Griz, Is there anything you have yet to find? LOL

  • janerazor

AI4 was my first season. I didn’t really understand the show then, so I was puzzled as to why Anthony was always getting criticized when I thought he sounded really great. As I recall, many of the judges’ comments centered on Anthony being some kind of wussy little boy singer. I never thought he seemed that way at all.

So I believe this is what they are doing to Sanjaya this year, and the lazy media writes and rewrites articles about it because it’s easier to rehash what TPTB want us to think than to write insightful articles from scratch.

I love Sanjaya’s voice. Is he as polished as Melinda? No, but none of the other contestants are, either. Is he the worst voice left? No, all of them have their weaknesses. For example, Phil tends to sound “honky”; Chris R. is nasally; Gina is pitchy. I still say that of all of them, Sanjaya has the most naturally beautiful voice. I listen to him and think that this is what a 17-year-old Elliott must have been like.

OMG, cheese, some of them were nuts. I walked out of the room when they started talking about chatting with Taylor naked.

I know. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m still shaking my head.

    Ewwww. :wacko_tb:

  • dante

I haven’t made it to Target yet to buy Elliott’s CD, but listened in the BlueRoom from earlier links and he looks great and so happy! I am so happy for all his fans who had to wait so long – it is a great CD and I can’t wait to get it!

I am looking forward to Jordin, Blake and Melinda tonight! Hope they do well.

He’s been delayed until 3 Eastern. I’m just keeping it up until then. I don’t want to have to try to get back in. If you close the browzer, and go back in it might work.

Just don’t look until 3, you might go blind.

O come on JJ, some of that stuff is quite comical..LOL You going to tell me that you don’t find someone calling Taylor a “talented sex God” funny..LOL

The guys I’ve pick on AI (Bo, Taylor and Sanjaya) may not be the best vocals in some eyes but if they earn the title “SEX God” they must be doing something right..lol

I’m here. I can’t get into Taylor’s chat. I thought I was in but got a blank screen. Then I hit refresh and everything froze. WTH. The email I got said that they planned to shut chat down a half hour or so before it begins to “clear it out”. If the mods are smart, they’re taking note of the inappropriate posters and will prevent them from re-entering for the chat. Guess that means someone else will have to submit JJ’s questions for her.

    Sigh.

It does go on all the time. The Marine’s showed up at my door a few years ago, wanted my daughter (the princess?????) to play tennis for the Marine’s and act as a spokesmodel. They were tenacious but honestly, her and Marine’s in the same sentence is a joke.

Even the Girl Scouts have manipulated, uh, I mean updated, their image.

I find the topic of Sanjaya and what his presense will do to the show very interesting. He’s pretty much like Kevin Covaith times 10. A generally likable kid with a decent voice but seemingly no shot in hell (at the beginning) to win the competition. What Sanjaya has that Kevin doesn’t is the legion of teenage girl fans who think he’s absolutely beautiful. Which is understandble, he’s a very cute boy. To add to all of the pre teens we now have people just voting for him for fun, to screw with the show, and to entertain themselves. VFTW has grown tenfold and Howard Stern is even participating in the madness. There’s no doubt the dedicated Stern fans will be picking up the phone, even if they don’t watch the show.
So, out of curiously my question to everyone is:
What will ultimately happen to AI if Sanjaya gets far enough to win?
I think the judges have already shown their disdain for the guy. I think the producers want him out. Not right now of course cause he brings ratings, but later so they don’t have to deal with him as a recording artist. But I think if people continue to get behind the cause of keeping him on, and actually succeed, the number of people joining the cause will grow. And he may actually win, or get into top two. That would be hilarious.

Did you guys forget about John (last name fail me right now) from Season Three. He was a bit like Sanjaya. Where as, he did not have a lot of stage presence but had a nice voice. He took a lot of abuse from the judges that season and kept on going..

  • SEXYGIRL

  • Former_AI_Junkie

AFan: I’m a worster, but I don’t think Sanjaya has a shot in hell in winning. If we (worsters, Howard fans, and the tweentards) can get him to the top 6 charity night, on stage with U2.. that’d be enough.

  • madaboutu

griz…………..it’s your fault all those crazies are in chat. All those pics you post, like that second one above, make hormones spike even for old ladies like me. Stop it!! :blush_tb: Seriously, I wonder how many of those gals would say those things if they were there in person? Nada

  • cheese

Afan, I could see TPTB offering Sanjaya some sort of out along the way – there probably is money to made off of him even if he will never be HUGE. People buy Hilary Duff CDs, right? I don’t think they would let him in the Top 5.

He could still improve, too. I think he can sing much better than what we’ve seen so far. If he gets over his nerves, he wouldn’t be any worse than Jasmine Trias, and she made it all the way to third place! I don’t think he could beat Blake, Melinda or Jordin, though. If he somehow makes Top 3, I expect to LMAO at the Clive and judge’s choices for him. He’ll probably have to sing “My Destiny” and “Rush Rush”

  • Metta

Oh, I forgot about him. He’s a better example. He sucked! But was the controversy as big as this one? I don’t remember.

  • cheese

I don’t think the controversy started so early with John Stevens. There was some pretty weak talent that year and everyone thought that Camille, Matt and JPL sucked just as much or more than John S. When J-Hud left before him, the press got worse for John.

I thought John was decent, just not versatile or seasoned enough to be on Idol.

  • JJ

Oh, I forgot about him. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a better example. He sucked!

Actually, no he didn’t suck. He had no stage presence, but not a bad voice. Actually, King of the Road, was actually very good.

“No! We joke about it all the time. People ask, “How’d you come up with that name?” and I say, “It came to me in a dream, and I thought it was a good word. Then I was like, ‘Wait, that’s my name! It’s perfect!’ ”

And he will have to sing first and be given only 20 seconds or less to sing each song and the band will be ordered to tune all of their instruments to be off-key.

Oh, I forgot about him. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a better example. He sucked! But was the controversy as big as this one? I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t remember.

Yep, that was the season Jennifer was kicked off before him. He left the following week, I think. I do remember a bit of a fire storm becauseof Jennifer’s early dismissal. Even prompting Elton to call the voting system racist. But, I think this season is really not going well so Sanjaya is keeping the fire going. During Season Three John was trashed by Simon and the media but I don’t remember if it was as over the top as this. Honestly, I was just watching that season not reading blogs and chatboards like this season. I started reading the internet when it got down to the final two.

Stop it!! Seriously, I wonder how many of those gals would say those things if they were there in person? Nada

I remember last year when Taylor was performing at the GMA Summerfest in Bryant Park, this woman decided to scream out if he still wants a baby girl…LOL He mentioned in the People Magazine Sexy Bachelor issue that he wanted a baby girl and he already had the name picked out for her.

So, yes. Some would be bold enough to behave in the same manner.

  • JJ

the band will be ordered to tune all of their instruments to be off-key.

    Front-runners: Christina contemplates Blake

I don’t speak on behalf of VFTW or anyone else, but IMO, that’s what we can realistically shoot for. Nigel Lithgoe will have poor Sunny assassinated if he makes it any further.

Every week Sunny stays on is a gift to be cherished.. a reason to watch this dreary season.

  • Tony

I hope Sanjaya wins so either the show (or the idea behind the show at least) is destroyed beyond repair–thus getting the show canned–or the judges/producers rethink their strategies for putting together the top 24.

There’s no fucking way that this year’s top 24 represents “the best undiscovered talent in America”. Gina, Phil, Brandon, Sanjaya, AJ, Nick, Antonella, Haley, etc. are all there to ensure a Melinda, Jordin or LaKisha (or maybe even Blake *thumbs down*) victory.

  • CarieB

Question 1: assuming that some viewers will miss the last 7 minutes accidentally or otherwise, does that mean the last performer is still in the pimp spot or is the last performer of the first hour in the pimp spot?

Question 2: regarding spoilers about the performance order, isn’t the order changed after final rehearsal just before showtime based on how well the contestants have performed?

  • Metta

So the main theme this afternoon is posting about what is happening in another bloggerà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s chatroom? huh

    Article: Front-runners: Christina contemplates Blake

Don (the USA Today coach that “contemplates” Lakisha, the coach to comment after Christina) did a funny re-cap of last week. He’s quite cranky that so many Idols skirted the theme.

Here is what he said about Blake:

“Given that the jazzy, minor-key moodiness of The Zombiesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ material makes them sound more contemporary than most of their British Invasion counterparts, Blakeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s choice of material was superb. Wish we could say the same about his command of his upper register. As for his fashion sense, the elephant called -à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ he wants his six blind men back”

He also refers to Chris R’s performance to something the British might expect to hear on the the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“chicken in a basketà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ circuit.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Hey calimari, if you’re still around, I wanted to apologize for the tone of my post. But I still stand by what I said. ALL religions think they have something special, so I don’t see why Phil’s friend referring to him as a “brother in Christ” would be any different than referring to a Jewish person as “one of the chosen people” or a Muslim as a “follower of the true prophet.” Yet I have a sneaking feeling that had the religion in question been Judaism or Islam, no one would have been complaining about being “offended.” Christianity is always fair game, though. Now I realize that the public face of the religion is often pretty hypocritical, but we’re not all followers of the Church of Falwell and Robertson any more than every Muslim is a fundamentalist terrorist.

I don’t go around sticking my faith in people’s noses on a daily basis. I’m not a proselytizer. But I do get angry when people get offended because someone dares to out themself as a Christian. I’m proud to be one, and no, I don’t think there’s anything inherently offensive about it. And if you hear someone describe me as a “sister in Christ,” and you decide to think less me because I might be “one of their ilk,” heh, well, I don’t want to be your friend, either.

Onto Idol…is LaKisha’s plan to drip herself in jewels every week and hope that the reflection of the strobe lights off the diamonds somehow hypnotizes people to vote for her over Melinda? And what of this stupid spoiler to vote for an 11th tour member? I really think that this show is jumping the shark this season, I do. It’s a less-talented, less-diverse, less-exciting crop of folks IMO, and Idol is becoming less about the singers and more about the show itself. It’s fat and bloated now, and for me, some of the fun is gone. Not all–the snark still abounds–but some.

    Yea right JJ! Pffff! :p

    He likes me better.

  • JJ

OK, that was totally fucking lame. I want to know what influenced him musically, instead I got to hear how his golf game is and what kind of fucking underwear he wears!!!!!!

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

He is answering only questions that are extremely safe, with basically one word answers.

Is he selecting the questions or is a mod selecting them?

what kind of fucking underwear he wears!!!!!!

Didn’t answering that question contribute to DAUGHTRY! getting kicked off last year? ;-)

  • griz

Eh come on JJ – that underwear answer is important information – just in case!!

  • SEXYGIRL

Nigel Lithgoe will have poor Sunny assassinated if he makes it any further.

Come on, this is AI we are talking about. If this nonsense encourages high rating then he is a keeper. As soon as the rating starts going down South, Sanjaya will suddenly be voted off..LOL

  • emeralgem

Heh. I was asking snarky questions by the end of it. “Do you have any time left to write new songs when you’re not playing X-Box, playing golf, jogging, watching basketball, on stage, or doing lame chats with horny fans who want to know what kind of underwear you have on?”

Are we likely to get some rehearsals spoilers soon?

  • Terrie

Blake is missing an opportunity to sing a beatbox-friendly song of which I am certain Gwen Stefani would approve: Doin’ Time (Summertime) by Sublime. I can totally see him fronting the Long Beach Dub Allstars. Of course, he might have to skip the lyric, “I’d like to hold her head under water.”

I saw No Doubt and Sublime way back in the day at a tiny roots rock dive in Anaheim called Linda’s Doll Hut and I understand the two SoCal-based bands remained tight until Bradley Nowell’s death.

  • SEXYGIRL

Cheese, if you sent that then we now know why your question was not answered…lol

  • Metta

Hee! I couldn’t resist expressing my discontent on that chat and am now getting accused of being ungrateful and being a “kat fan”! lmao!

  • JJ

He should have answered cheeses question, at least it was funny. Every other question he answered was fucking lame. God, why go on a chat if you’re not going to ask fucking questions. I could care less that he plays xbox. I would have more respect for him if he said he played with……..

  • Tony

I hear Elliott was really good on Ellen. It won’t be on here until 4pm (which is in 10 minutes).

  • Allen

    hs:

Chrisà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s sales are effin amazing. Elliott is hanging in there with Joss Stone, and sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s been well-pimped with a huge video getting played every ten minutes, so thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s pretty cool.

Elliott certainly has great numbers so far (congratulations to him and his fans) and Daughtry’s continue to be amazing for being out this long, the truly scary one though for me on that chart is that at 68.9% Carrie is currently #9 with 30,538 in what, roughly her 70th week or something?

  • JJ

Sigh……I think I’m gonna throw Taylor under a bus and declare myself a Bucky fan.

  • Lisa B

These web chats are always lame. Any intelligent question gets shoved to the bottom of the pile.

Which is the main reason I would never join a fanclub.

I am not a HUGE Carrie fan, but her stuff is a hell of a lot better than the other artists who made the Top 10 Albums Sold list last year, including Nickelback and (ugh) Rascal Flatts.

  • hs

Tony, will we get a play-by-play? jk

I get my Elliott fixes on his fan sites, for the most part. I know that Elliott fans are in the minority here, so I’m just fine with occassional posts or updates. I’m rooting for the rest of the idols about equally at this point.

    Excellent link Stefunny.

He did Time Of The Season and spat on the piano so I slapped him upside his glued head, and he said “Thanks Mister” and did that white dance made famous by Michael Jackson and now done by every white singer since 2002. He was wearing the same clothes too. A lovely guy.

Just as a clarification I meant scary as in scarily good or impressive there. I like Carrie and have her CD.

  • Kirsten

Last year, we got spoilers about the performance order by people testing the numbers in the afternoon.

Idol would do a test run of the phone numbers in the afternoon before the show. People would call the numbers and listen to which Idol the line was for (“Thank you for voting for Bobby” or whoever). It wasn’t supposed to be generally known, but some people figured out what time to try calling. I know they were able to do that before the final 3 show because the Idol fan boards exploded in anger when it was revealed who was singing in the death spot last year (apparently, no singer in 5 seasons has survived singing first on final 3 night).

Does Idol not test the lines like that anymore?

Oh, and Carrie’s album has more legs than a centipede. That album just keeps going and going and going…

  • madaboutu

JJ………..I doubt most of the people on this chat read the Washington Post. :dry_tb:

  • Cathy

Kirsten, they don’t tell the name of the person you voted for until it gets closer to the end of the competition.

At this stage of the competition, they just say “Thank you for voting for contestant #6″ instead of the name of the contestant. That’s why it doesn’t do any good to test the lines.

  • jersey

Peter Noone is a funny guy. Loved reading his blog entry.

  • madaboutu

JJ…..I meant “that” chat, as in the one on the TH site and not this (mj’s) intellectual site. :smile1_ee:

How lazy and cheap are they? How hard would it be to have the answering machine say “Blake” instead of “6″?

Oh well. I was hoping we could get a confirmation about the performance order. Thanks for the info.

  • JJ

Some lucky lady just won two tickets to Taylors concert at the Grove in Anaheim from KOST………..I still think its weird that they are doing the promos but not playing what people will be hearing at the concerts.
Re: Nigel Lythgoe, he might like some of the songs on Taylors album if he gave a listen. I can’t believe that the guy has singled out the “blues and soul” winners to not listen to……even once?

  • Sagie

Thanks Griz for all the lovely Taylor photo’s! I just love the photo’s of him when he gets all intense and into the music. Good stuff.

  • Sagie

Elliott is up next! So hopefully he will get a good chunk of the 15 minutes that are left of the show.

I am actually surprised that Nigel hasn’t listened to all the Idol winners’ albums. I would have just out of curiosity.

  • JJ

My oldest just decided to temporarily run away because I told her if she wanted to go in the woods she needed to put sneakers on. And people wonder why parents drink.

  • madaboutu

LisaB…….LOL can’t picture Nigel as a dancer. Anyway, it’s just that he is in the age group that saw alot of British entertainers pick up the blues and soul from American music. Maybe he belongs more to the Monty Python genre. :lol_ee:

  • bean99

Peter Noone’s blog was too funny. I love his sense of humor. :lol_tb:

Didn’t you offer to pack her a bag JJ?

  • Tony

Elliott said that his favorites are Melinda and LaKisha.

He also said that he likes Blake

    Booooo! lol =p

  • Lisa B

Madaboutu – he was dancing to cheesy pop music in the 70′s, I don’t think he’s ever left it behind.

  • madaboutu

Tony………is Elliott on the last fifteen minutes of Ellen?

  • Kirsten

So, given that Nigel has only ever listened to 2 of the Idol winners’ CDs because he is SO very busy, does anybody still buy the story that Nigel just “happened” to listen to Chris’s CD prior to its release and think “Home” was the perfect boot song?

Fine, promote somebody for whatever reason (it’s your show), but at least keep your stories consistent Nigel.

  • pj

Ricky just posted this on IDF:

I think IM’s original list was pretty legitimate, his updated one is an eyebrow raiser and his gwen facts as well, as well as wardrobe, order and twist. BUT original song list seems legit.

Does this mean Sanjaya is back to singing Bathwater?

I have to say that I’m slightly disappointed. I was sooo looking forward to laughing my a$$ off at Chris R wearing shorts during his “Don’t Speak” performance.

  • JJ

Didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t you offer to pack her a bag JJ?

I did, but she came home anyway.

Dang JJ, you are such a mean mother! How unreasonable of you to suggest she wear her sneakers! Donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢tcha know that Tetanus is latest à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Must haveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ for all the cool kids nowadays!

Elliott seemed good with Ellen, just slightly nervous but all and all comfortable. She asked about his hair and he told the story about getting his teeth fixed for free. That was cute.

I’m not crazy about this song, at the first part of it, it seemed he was singing to far ahead of the music? I dunno but still sounded good overall.

  • radname

Maybe weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll be treated with the same when the rest of the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‹idolsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ do them?

Kats done two of those types of chats already.

    He was fantastic, BTW. :)

Do you think Nigel has time to play Xbox with Taylor????

  • Kirsten

pj: Kirsten, Nigel also has spare time to attend Daughtry concerts.

That’s just because he’s hoping to convince Chris to try out for “So You think You can Dance?”. He’s determined to make him a WINNA! (that’s why no summer tour has been announced for Chris’s band yet…just wait until you see Chris do the Paso Doble using a wallet chain as a cape)

    Blake Lewis – “Love Song”
    Chris Richardson – “Don’t Speak”
Chris Sligh – “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
    Gina Glocksen – Pretenders ballad
    Haley Scarnato – “True Colors”

Lakisha Jones – Donna Summers song
Melinda Doolittle – Donna Summers song
Phil Stacey – “Every Breath You Take”
    Sanjaya Malakar – “Bathwater”

is correct, some changes may of been made — NOT the ones IM suggests.

I think the Daily Variety story of Nigel hearing the song “Home” while Chris was making his CD is plausible. Nigel has said that his favorite Idol last year was Chris thus he may have been curious and listened to Chris’ music.

I wanted to be the first to tell you guys that I will not be in Boston on Tuesday. Long story but the short version is that I dont want to travel 6+ miles. The sad part is that I wont get to meet you guys. The people who have helped to carry me through some of the worst times of my life. Thats what I feel worst about but my sister and my best friend are both coming in from Florida on Sunday and I want to spend as much time with both of them as i can.

I just wanted to say that I think I can do this life thing again. I think that I can take the training wheels off and go it alone thanks to GC’s and MJ’s.

I will leave the bunny slipper thing up to some courageous person or I will have to wait until Taylor comes closer to Rochester. Shakes head, I dont know what I would have done without you kids lo these past several months. You wont ever know but Im telling you, if not for here and GC’s, I would be a basket case.

I have deflated the batcave, thrown the secret decoder ring in Lake Ontario and tucked the bunny slippers away in moth balls for preservation. It sure was a hell of a ride for me and thank you all for indulging my wild bunny imagination. Lets call it therapy.

So, have a ball in Boston, you kids will have the time of your lives and it will be one of the very best experiences you have ever had. I’ll be thinking of you and toasting you on Tuesday night. Show them how its done. Show them that us “old” people know how to party with the best of them.

Im hoping that Donna will be able to make it, there is still a good chance that she will. Got my fingers crossed Donna! I want details, ya hear? DETAILS. I’ll be back from time to time and if Sanjaya does a performance like he did last week I will be here to make a fool of myself as I have become so accostomed to doing.

In the meantime life is calling me and Summer is fast approaching. Its time for me to go out on my own and have fun and thats exactly what I intend to do. Its gonna be a fun Summer for me and I wish the same for every one of you.

Be safe and party on MJers!!!

    Whoooooooooooooo!!

P.S.—-cause I love you guys so much, I typed this fucking thing out TWICE cause the first one went into MJ heaven.

    Latest scoop from Ricky……….

    Blake Lewis – “Love Song”
    Chris Richardson – “Don’t Speak”
Chris Sligh – “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic”
    Gina Glocksen – Pretenders ballad
    Haley Scarnato – “True Colors”
    Jordin Sparks – “Hey Baby”
Lakisha Jones – Donna Summers song
Melinda Doolittle – Donna Summers song
Phil Stacey – “Every Breath You Take”
    Sanjaya Malakar – “Bathwater”

expect to see this type to be truth. Wardrobe is all wrong, order is wrong, gwen comments are wrong, his newer sanjaya/melinda/lakisha/gina song choices were wrong — revert back to the list above, the original. His twist was wrong. His first post of song spoilers though, was right.

Dingo, you will be missed. You are the glue that unites all of crazies that post on this board with your humor and candor. In your honor, one of my favorite Mary Oliver poems fittingly entitled “The Journey”.

    The Journey

    One day you finally knew
what you had to do, and began,
    though the voices around you
    kept shouting
    their bad advice–
    though the whole house
    began to tremble
and you felt the old tug
    at your ankles.
    “Mend my life!”
    each voice cried.
    But you didn’t stop.
You knew what you had to do,
    though the wind pried
    with its stiff fingers
    at the very foundations,
    though their melancholy
    was terrible.
    It was already late
    enough, and a wild night,
and the road full of fallen
    branches and stones.
    But little by little,
as you left their voices behind,
    the stars began to burn
    through the sheets of clouds,
and there was a new voice
    which you slowly
    recognized as your own,
    that kept you company
as you strode deeper and deeper
    into the world,
    determined to do
the only thing you could do–
    determined to save
the only life you could save.

    NOLA,

Give it time. “Home” hasn’t been released to radio yet. After it is released to radio on April 10 and if it doesn’t reach # 1 on Billboard Top 100, Pop, and Hot AC, then I was wrong.

    Ashley Ferl: ‘Idol’ Cryin’ Game
Is it just a case of innocent teenage “fandemodium” or a teary conspiracy?

…By Wednesday morning it was clear that Ferl was well on her way to temporary stardom. She woke up to find television vans from E!, Access Hollywood and Fox all waiting outside her door, and that evening the entire family flew to New York on NBC’s tab so that Ferl could be interviewed on Thursday’s “Today” show.

After that, Ferl was interviewed by MSNBC, Fox News and “Entertainment Tonight.” This is not the first time that Ferl has cried her way into an enviable situation. Last year she was at the dress rehearsal for the top 3 episode of “Idol,” where she saw Mikalah Gordon, her favorite contestant from Season 4. Ferl got so excited that she started to scream à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ an usher agreed to take her over to meet Gordon. As Ferl tells it, she was practically hyperventilating, and a concerned Gordon offered to take her backstage for a Sprite and some candy to calm her down.

“I didn’t calm down,” said Ferl. “I went back to my seat and watched the show, and then Taylor [Hicks] waved to me and I got all excited again.”…

Thanks, hs, for the link to Elliott’s performance on Ellen. It did seem like “Movin’ On” was a little bit uptempo and Elliott might have been ahead of the song, but he’s still pretty new at this.

beesims, what a great mary oliver poem. i haven’t read it in a long while but man, i needed to! so thanks!

i read a transcript of the taylor chat at the boogie and thought it sounded like a lot of fun!

fyi: my cat, callie, had her ultrasound today and tomorrow a.m. sees the vet for more iv hydration and blood work; i’ll know more then. but she is holding her own since she began to eat again and i have to think my off-key singing to her (she’s my only fan) is doing the trick.

i am really curious to see how gwen stefani does in the mentorship role. (peter noone and lulu sure were great.) i loved her work with no doubt and i like the spoiler song list. it’s interesting, if true, that sanjaya has the coveted last spot. anyway, i wish everyone the best tonight.

coco……….I don’t think Carrie and Taylor were the only Idols supported by VFTW. Also, I think I read that they don’t necessarily support the Worst singers, but those they think TPTB wouldn’t want to win. Others here probably know more than I about that.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

For anyone interested in the rationale behind VFTW, go the the official site. It’s all explained there at the top of the homepage.

In short, the criteria for choosing the VFTW pick (in descending order of importance):

    1. (lack of) Talent.
    2. Entertaining qualities (on and off stage).
    3. Marketing nightmare for TPTB.

This is why Taylor was such a great pick once Pickler was booted (2 and 3), and why Carrie was such a terrible one (none of the above, she was just REALLY BORING and gave the exact same performance almost every week).

  • longsong

    Taylor. Lack of Talent. Riiiiiight.

  • longsong

As for Sanjaya, I find him fun to watch. I can guarantee you though, that no matter how well he does, Randy will say, “Awwwwww. That just wasn’t good, dog.”. All three judges have made up their minds and that’s IT.

I hope San’s performance last week wasn’t just a fluke. He’s the performer I’m most excited/interested to see.

    Go figure.

Hey calimari, if youà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re still around, I wanted to apologize for the tone of my post. But I still stand by what I said. Now I realize that the public face of the religion is often pretty hypocritical, but weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re not all followers of the Church of Falwell and Robertson any more than every Muslim is a fundamentalist terrorist.

I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t go around sticking my faith in peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s noses on a daily basis. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m not a proselytizer. But I do get angry when people get offended because someone dares to out themself as a Christian. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m proud to be one, and no, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t think thereà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s anything inherently offensive about it. And if you hear someone describe me as a à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“sister in Christ,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and you decide to think less me because I might be à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“one of their ilk,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ heh, well, I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to be your friend, either.

(Sorry, haven’t figgered out the quote thing yet). Kat – apology accepted re:the tone of your post. I do realize that reading vs. talking can make a post sound quite different. As to the rest of this post, well, ya lost me again. I never hear my Jewish friends refer to other jews in any particular way, and as far as muslims go, living in a huge muslim area, walking distance to the muslim unity center, neither do they except for maybe a general “my brother” or “my sister.” But I hear Xtians do it all the time, seemingly in a way to point out that they are somehow exalted by way of their faith. Again, I just don’t think people should wear their faith on their sleeve, and if it was mentioned via another religion, I would have been equally bothered because, quite frankly, religion offends me in general. All of them. But I have to live in a world where it exists, so I don’t pick & choose my friends by their religion. Just by avoiding those who either talk it but don’t walk it, or who brag about it.

I realize this is an AI blog, so back to our regularly scheduled programming. Guess I’ve been off my “anti-faith” websites a little too long.

  • madaboutu

Former AI……..Unfortunately, the general public and press think that #1 on your list is the only criteria for VFTW.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    Lack of Talent. Riiiiiight.

ONce the competition winds down to the top 3-5, usually factors 2 and 3 are considered (since all competitors are fairly talented by then).

Can you point out one person in the top 5 last season who wasn’t talented? Compare season 3 with Jasmin Trias and Diana in the top 3, who’d get whipped by anyone in the top 5 of season 5.

Taylor was chosen due to factors 2 and 3. Of course, some people thought he was a no-talent hack.. I’m definitely NOT one of those people.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

The whole point of VFTW is to make the show more entertaining, more fun to watch.. get rid of the boring fodder and leave the pimped, the talented, and the worst.

  • longsong

Ooh. Ex Mormon here, not religious at all, but I have to say I’m a wee bit offended by the use of “X” in “Xtians”. And I DO know Muslims who use their perceived persecution as a crutch – well before 9/11.

Yikes, I hate talk of religion, though. That and politics. It’s just a sticky wicket and never the twain shall meet.

You can TRY and convince me to like “little d”, though!

  • Little Boy Blue

This is why Taylor was such a great pick once Pickler was booted (2 and 3), and why Carrie was such a terrible one.

Pickler was chosen after Kevin Covais was booted off. There is a case for choosing terrible candidates when you reach the final 12 and going on from there.

BUT, When they reach the final 4, there is no lack of talent left. Ultimately they’ll have to choose anyone they feel for the sheer humor of doing so. And BTW, if you looked at VFTW’s reasons for choosing Taylor Hicks ( I read their reasons for doing so ), it wasn’t because of lack of talent. It was because he was the most interesting /entertaining personality to pick from of the bunch left.

  • longsong

Oops, FAIJ! When your criteria was (lack of) talent and then you went on to say “That’s why Taylor was a great pick”, I apparently misunderstood.

  • Little Boy Blue

Of course, some people thought he was a no-talent hack..

Let’s put it this way, Even with A LOT OF NON-IDOL ARTISTS WHO ARE CHARTING TODAY, you will also find people who will have the opinion that they are no-talent hacks. Nothing surprising there.

  • griz

Of course, some people thought he was a no-talent hack..

And more than a few people think Chris Daughtry is a NO TALENT HACK -someone with 0 creativity and a less than 0 talent in entertaining. And make that double for McBoobs.

    What’s your point?

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    Little Boy Blue:

    1.

When they reach the final 4, there is no lack of talent left

Jasmine Trias, Nikki McKibbin, and others I forget. Jasmine Trias especially was just terrible, it was largely thanks to her homestate she made it as far as she did.

    2.

if you looked at their reasons for choosing Taylor Hicks, it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t because of lack of talent. It was because he was the most interesting personality to pick from of the bunch left

True to an extent (factor 2), but a large factor was also that he’d be a marketing nightmare for TPTB (factor 3), which turned out to be 100% true. And a lot of worsters thought that sucked, plain and simple.

The choice came down between McTatas and Taylor, with Taylor winning by a landslide (just like in real life, LOL)

I still think McTatas would have made a better pick.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

But I have to live in a world where it exists, so I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t pick & choose my friends by their religion. Just by avoiding those who either talk it but donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t walk it, or who brag about it.

Calimari, gotcha. I guess we’ll have to agree to disagree, but I would ask you to maybe keep one thing in the back of your mind. It’s hard to tell because, as you said, we’re writing and not talking, but you seem to paint Christians with a broad brush. It’s a VERY VERY diverse religion. Some are more vocal about their faith than others. I’m rarely vocal about it (posting something like this is an anomaly for me). I guess what set me off is that I thought your original post insinuated that Phil was a bad person, or that you were at least less likely to like him, because of something his friend said, and then there was something about Phil being “of that ilk…” Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t, but I don’t think we can judge him on what someone wrote about him on a blog.

I have friends of almost every faith and some of them — even the non-Christians — can be pretty righteous. In fact I go to school with a girl who is a member of one of the “Big Three” religions (not Christianity, though) and she is VERY vocal about her faith…in a pushy way. It’s annoying, but I’m never offended. I’ve known vocal fundamentalist Christians, vocal Zionists, and vocal Palestinian Muslims who have all said things that could be construed as offensive, but…they’ve got a right to their beliefs and I don’t think any less of them as people for them. I guess I just don’t get the “OMG he said something religious and now I’m totally turned off by it!” mentality. I don’t like to be ministered when I don’t ask for it, but I think there’s a line between proselytizing and being proud of your faith.

  • calimari

Longsong – every mormon I’ve met have been incredibly friendly. But for those who are bothered by the use of X in Christian should look up how it originated. It’s not meant to take “Christ” out of Christmas as many claim.

Saw Elliott on Ellen today. Loved “Movin On”. He really seemed the loosest that I’ve seen him on stage. Good going Elliott.

  • Easy

Blake is missing an opportunity to sing a beatbox-friendly song of which I am certain Gwen Stefani would approve: Doinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Time (Summertime) by Sublime. I can totally see him fronting the Long Beach Dub Allstars. Of course, he might have to skip the lyric, à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d like to hold her head under water.à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I saw No Doubt and Sublime way back in the day at a tiny roots rock dive in Anaheim called Lindaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Doll Hut and I understand the two SoCal-based bands remained tight until Bradley Nowellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s death.

    You’re reading my mind.

I’m very disappointed Sublime was not chosen. Especially by Blake.

They were a great, great band. It’s a shame they were cut so short.

    Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s your point?

I’m sorry Taylor isn’t doing as well as you’d hoped. I was replying to posters above asking how VFTW chooses their picks. I was explaining that factor #1 did have a part in Taylor’s pick (since he was considered less talented than the rest by some worsters), but it was mostly down to factors #2 and #3, which were almost in complete concensus.

Try and not misinterpret what I’m trying to say when you take the time to read what I post. My post didn’t concern Taylor at all, and I wasn’t stating my opinion/observation of him.

calimari………interesting that the Xtian should be brought up and you are right. I believe it had something to do when the first Christians were persecuted, and needed to hide their new faith, it was like a secret code to let each other know who was a member. Something like that. Well, for Taylor to be considered by some of the WORSTERS less talented than the rest strongly indicates, IMHO, that perhaps they may NOT know talent even if it jumped up and bit them on the A$$..

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Uhhh. It’s an hour and a half til the show starts on the East Coast, can we can the my idol is better than your idol my religion is better than your religion talk and DISCUSS TONIGHT’S SHOW?

  • Easy

BUT, When they reach the final 4, there is no lack of talent left. Ultimately theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll have to choose anyone they feel for the sheer humor of doing so. And BTW, if you looked at VFTWà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s reasons for choosing Taylor Hicks ( I read their reasons for doing so ), it wasnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t because of lack of talent. It was because he was the most interesting /entertaining personality to pick from of the bunch left.

    Obviously.

But people have to seek for a reason why their personal favorite ended up being Taylor Hicks’ bitch last season.

The reason I read when they selected Hicks after Pickler was a good one – Taylor Hicks is the one contestant that is anti-American Idol. He’s the one they are hoping won’t win it. So let’s back him.

    Can’t argue with that logic.

But hey, people can spin it whatever way it makes them feel better.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

    On with the show!

    My prediction: Sanjaya will suck!

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

I…didn’t think it was a my religion is better than your religion discussion, but sorry anyway, MJ.

  • Easy

And more than a few people think Chris Daughtry is a NO TALENT HACK -someone with 0 creativity and a less than 0 talent in entertaining. And make that double for McBoobs.

    Whatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s your point?

I won’t claim any of them have no talent. Mostly because I’m educated and don’t make ridiculosly idiotic statements like that.

Obviously they all had/have talent (Particularly guys like Hicks and Daughtry who write and play their own music.) It’s just a question of which one is for you.

  • calimari

Kat – when I mentioned Phil being “of that ilk” I wasn’t referring to him being Xtian, but referring to him being like his supposed friend who uses terminology such as “he is my brother in Christ.” People who talk like that. Bugs me. And even tho it was a friend or a supposed friend or distant aquaintence or whoever, he used that term to describe Phil and it turned me off. Call it right or wrong, I can’t help my gut reaction. Same thing when people kept going on about Fantasia being a single mom who was illiterate. So am I supposed to throw her a pity vote? If a singer was jewish or muslim or buddhist, should I throw them votes because they represent my faith? Should I vote for Lakisha because she’s my local girl? No – that stuff turns me off. I just want them to sing and/or entertain me.

  • Easy

MJ, I’m looking forward to tonight. I like the theme.

  • cat

    Hey mj!

When people are fervently wishing it was last year because of the contestants, I am fervently wishing it was last year because of the blog…..

Jasmine Trias, Nikki McKibbin, and others I forget. Jasmine Trias especially was just terrible, it was largely thanks to her homestate she made it as far as she did.

These people were NOT ALWAYS TERRIBLE. Just bad in certain genres.

But yes, I will agree that they went further than they should have.
BTW, VFTW was not even in existence during their time.

However, to compare them with Sanjaya is just inappropriate.

  • calimari

Just saw your post MJ – and gladly. I’m enjoying that Elliott video on ellen right now – thanks to whoever posted it. Dingo -hope to hear from you when you go to the concert. I’ve always enjoyed your posts since Gray’s back in the day!

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Calimari, ITA, no one should be voting for Phil because he’s Christian, or Lakisha because she’s a single mom, or Sanjaya because he’s cute and cuddly for that matter. But I think we’d better move the discussion to Idol for MJ’s mental health :-) I’ll be in chat!

  • Little Boy Blue

    VOTE SUNDANCE!!!!

I would, if I only knew what number to dial :)

This has been killing me for weeks! Melinda reminds me of that old woman on 227…Pearl, the nosy neighbor who hung outside her window all the time. :) here’s a pic I found. lololol

Gwen impressed me more then I thought she would tonight but the idols didnt. Lakisha and Melinda’s song choices are boring me to death. I didnt like Jordins song at all. I did like Blake and Chris R tonight. My fav tonight though, were Gina and Phil. They picked good songs and had good vocals. Haley shouldn’t even be there, imo. Chris S. is fading very fast and Sanjaya wasn’t the worse, two weeks in a row now. His hairstyle was a puzzle tho lol.

  • jenniferg72

My three favorites were Gina, Phil and Blake. Oddly enough since I really wanted Gina to leave (before hearing her sing). I thought Simon’s comments to Sanjya were hilarious. He’s right, it really doesn’t matter what they say to him. But it was funny for Simon to admit it.

Oh and I am SO happy for Elliot. We listened to his album during dinner.

  • Lu

    Has Beesims been here tonight?

  • http://www.myspace.com/mignonette33 purplesmile

Dropping by to join in the Elliott cheer! :-D

  • Lu

So Happy for sweet Elliott. I’m all sappy and shedding happy tears for him – for real. He looked more comfortable on stage today on the Ellen show than he’s ever looked and he rocked out Movin On. A bunch of us piled in to a conference room at work today to see him. Elliott really pulled it off and he did it without label backing – wow, that voice.

MJ – did Beesims tell you what she did? wow.

Season 6 – My bottom three – Haley, Sanjaya and Chris S. I missed what the judges said about Haley. Can someone enlighten me?

  • hapi

Best tonight… ok are u ready for this:
    Phil Stacy

based on mp3′s on ricky site
havent seen the performances yet here on west coast, but wow. LISTEN to the voice!

  • Lu

Yep – I loved Phil tonight.. I can’t believe I’m saying it. When I saw the song choice, I was prepared to hate it but he nailed it – big time.

  • radname

did both sanjaya and chris R forget the words

Liked Phil too tonight, so so on everyone else, Gina pretty good
    Where did quirky Chris S go, I miss him );
Gwen basically worthless as a mentor, had absolutely no meaningful advice for anyone. She seemed bored and a little clueless
My sons loved Sanjaya, and even voted for him tonight, lol

Am feeling a little sappy and giddy happy today as well, Lu for Elliott (:

  • patty cee

wasn’t a great show imo but i did like chris r., phil and gina. i usually like chris r. but am not sure he has much of a fanbase, and i don’t know why. i think he’s good, anyway, and tonight was no exception imo. i used to like phil too but haven’t been crazy about his song choices for several weeks. so was glad he sang a great song for him tonight, a great song period, all in his range, and a plus, hid his head and ears! and gina, finally a song that sounded good on her. nice to see her so happy to get that reaction. and i was kinda scared of sanjaya’s hair.

  • SEXYGIRL

So it’s official, Blake has be made TCO for the men.Complete with a DAUGHTRY mentioning..And in the world of real news, Melinda reminds me of Cheryl “Got to be real” Ladd.

  • Chris58

Dingo–you are leaving??? Well shit…MJ might as well close this fucker down! You are leaving???? Also, are you saying you are NOT going to your Taylor concert? And you think you are “well”????

  • mags

Eliot ,being totally independant,( will not buy his label had help from sony and being on AI) I think it is good numbers not fantastic. You know I tip my hat to him frank Sinatra sang I think “I did IT MY WAy” Hey I am realistic and I do not love elliots voice but you know good start to his career which he chose the right path away from the big machine.

SQuishy Nigel likes country music said he really does not listen to many artists after AI.

  • Metta

Melinda reminds me of Cheryl à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Got to be realà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ladd.

I think you mean Cheryl Lynn. Cheryl Ladd was one of Charlie’s Angels.

Phil was overrated and Chris R (still) can’t sing. LaKisha was great as was Gina, who I don’t usually like. Sligh was disappointing. Haley has always bored me and did nothing tonite to change that.

  • mississippigirl

Sagie…I’m not even gonna tell you how long I searched for that photo. :)

  • SEXYGIRL

I think you mean Cheryl Lynn. Cheryl Ladd was one of Charlieà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Angels.

You’re right..lol As Melinda was singing Cheryl Lynn came to mind. I just missed on her last name. I’m glad you knew who I was talking about.

Phil and Chris S. disappointed me. Blake got his tongue bathing. I think we are now going to be brainwashed to believe that everything Blake does is good. The same for Melinda. She was okay but boring. I don’t even remember what she sang. Lakisha and Gina was good but the other women were forgettable, IMO.

  • maracaibo

Blake was great tonight too. Even though I liked better last week’s performance I so think he did his thing.

THey guy is just so hip and cool you ca
