1st, was she lip synching? It could have been a bad video, but there were times where her lips didn’t seem to match up with the words.

2nd, I didn’t think she sounded great.

American Idol Runner-up Katharine McPhee Album Release

I almost totally forgot that Katharine McPhee’s album dropped today. I know I’m not always too friendly when it comes to her (and rightly so most of the time!). However, I think her album might be good for some fun disposable pop music, ya know?
Anyways, her performance last night on the Tonight show with Jay Leno is getting some harsh criticism, even from her fans.
I think she did pretty good for her first time singing her own stuff on live TV (or at least I think it is). Any sales predictions? 100-150k maybe?

My daughter swam competitively for 9 years before college — Even though I no longer had to drive her to morning practice (4:30 am out of bed), I typically only need 4 hours sleep max now — old habits dies hard >)

The Leno appearance was an object lesson on why it’s a crapshoot to use heavy protools in a live audience setting. At times it seemed as though she was lipsynching due to the vocal multiplier.

And her stage presence was…underwhelming.

Has she decided it’s time to bring awkward back?

Just watched her Leno vid and it was no better and no worse than I was expecting. She sounded fine – nothing offended me pitchwise which is unusual for her – but the whole thing was just…blah. She has zero performance charisma that I can detect and her body language is oddly closed and almost, I dunno, defensive. For at least half of it she looked like she didn’t want to be there. And for somebody who wants to project “sexy” she seems incredibly sexless to me. No connection to the audience, no projection of the meaning of the song – she could have been singing about doing the dishes – just a pretty girl with a pretty voice singing a pretty song *yawn*.

But it’ll still be a hit… :rolleyes_wp:

I started watching Kat on Leno. I couldn’t make it through the whole song. IMHO she did not sound good at all and she looked nervous as hell. Her back up singers seemed louder than she did.

I forgot to mention that Kat’s album showed up on this week’s release schedule for the UK – don’t know when it was added cos it wasn’t there when I looked last week – so all four Clive-signed Idols are having the same release day here.

I’ll be interested to see if there is any promo/advertising for them when Idol is screened here later this week because as far as I can tell this is the stealthiest of stealth releases – I can only find one outlet that is even stocking them as an official release rather than an import. It’s so low key I’m not sure why they’re bothering to be honest :confused_wp:

I doubt whether anything that people say about her affects Kat’s performance style. MUCH worse gets said about Taylor but he goes right on doing what he does, and there is nothing closed or defensive about him on stage.

I just feel she is not a natural performer. She needs some choreography, something to act out perhaps. I’ll be interested to see if she comes across better in her video – I imagine she will.

LakesideUK — In my opinion, the difference is that Taylor enjoys what he is doing. Even if he’s down, he seems to get in a better mood when he is performing. Perhaps something about getting the blood flowing lightens your mood (like running or swimming)!?? Also, he gets a charge off the reaction of viewers — especially obvious in the club videos (Workplay, Antons, Smiths, etc.). Don’t think Katharine feels the same way — never got that impression from any of her performances except maybe with Boccelli.

Don’t know, just a feeling I get from watching him — granted I haven’t seen a live performance, but April 17 in Baltimore is on my calendar.

storm…..car swamped because soft-top was open.

September – The capital of California is “C”…..isn’t it???

October – Hate M & M’s…..they are so hard to peel.

November – Baked turkey for 4 1/2 days
in structions said 1 hour per pound and I weigh 108!!

December – Couldn’t call 911 …. “duh”…..there’s
no “eleven” button on the stupid phone!!!

I just don’t think she feels anything when she sings, they are just words on a page. This is the same way I felt on Idol; her performances remind me of Miss America pageants, look pretty, smile,bat eyes at camera. No emotions,no passion, a pretty girl with a pretty voice but doesn’t really get into her song. Just my opinion, but then I can’t stand Britney or Jessica either so what do I know?

I wonder what Elliott’s appearances will be. I hope he has some good ones lined up.

Just finished watching/listening to Taylor on AOL Sessions. Five nice videos and not just the little picture ones–big pictures–nice.

Unfortunately, squishy, I understand there are no Kat prizes at stake this time.

AOL Sessions–nice “Behind the Scenes” clip, too. He looks and sounds good.

OOh, I turned on The Today Show to watch *** (I don’t know what day it is apparently) and caught Paolo Nutini’s performance. I have a crush :wub_tb:

I have had a crush on Paolo for some time… :blush_tb: ( I try to ignore the fact that he is half my age hmy_tb:)

Well, I never listened to Kat’s cd stream until this morning and did so after I saw her Leno video. I just figured, “Why listen, I’d never buy it.”

Gotta say, I thought she was very good on Leno and when I heard the cd, I really liked it (mind you, I wasn’t paying attention to lyrics). Who woulda thunk it? I did wonder if she was lip-synching on Leno.

This album is going to be very, very big, I think. Only downside is the PG cover, which lots of moms aren’t going to be happy with.

I said in the Katherine thread on the front page that I think she did very well and she will be a success. This is what they want to hear on the radio these days. For better or worse, she has the sound, she has the look.

Im feeling a bit queasy about Taylor. I aint gonna vomit YET but I gotta say, I think his team dropped the ball and when I see Pickler’s video being played incessantly on GAC and Bucky getting tons of buzz and Katherine is sure to do well in todays music scene if for nothing else, her mc tatas and Daughtry moving with hurricaine strength force. E has a CD out soon and I’ve no doubt he will do very very well. Im feeling a little sick for my boy and Im pissed as hell for all of us.

I know, I know, its about the music and he got his voice heard and he’s happy. If I hear that one more time someone is gonna find a bunny slipper up their butt. I just listen to HN and Cant You See and Georgia and Son Of A Carpenter and his “old” stuff and his REAL stuff. I hate the CD, it aint no secret but there are a few songs that keep reminding me of what Taylor can do and when he DOES what he can do, no one can touch him but when he does something like “Give Me Tonight” or “The Maze”….gawd, I wanna stick my finger down my own throat and hurl.

I am so looking forward to Boston. I want the Taylor I know is lurking right below this surface shit thats on his CD.

WILMH, Right Place, The Deal are very good. I like the “old” Soul Thing. I dont like all the tricks I hear on this CD. I dont like this CD. Period.

I have succumbed to JJ’s kind offer so my original Taylor Hicks CD is presently on its way across the world to my doorstep. And it has HOAD on it. Yay!

The lyrics on Kat’s album are a continued source of amusement to me and apparently others. The battleship line is awesome.

Track seven: Dangerous

Who wrote that tripe? That being said, and despite her somewhat languid performance on Leno, I’d put her at around 75K for first week sales. Not that I am making a prediction; I gave that up after Taylor remember. We’ll see.

Happy Kat day to the fans! I would have worn my open toes(pink, patent leather, and excrutiatingly painful to walk in), but it’s about 45 degrees outside. Ahh, well, you know what they say about even the best laid plans.

Caught the Leno thing on GoFish. Here’s what I wrote about it:

It wasn’t terrible, but not even her hardcore fans are championing it as a great performance. I watched it, and I couldn’t help but notice how incredibly uncomfortable Katharine looked. On Idol, she really began to cultivate a particular image in the last six or so weeks on the show — diva belter, big glory notes, dramatic hand and body movements. That’s Kat’s forte performance and style-wise, and I’d like to see her play into that big Broadway, torchy side of her. It’s also where her voice is strongest. But she seemed to know that it would be inappropriate during this song. So while the hand movements and the broad smile came out at a few intervals, they were almost immediately pushed back in as Katharine remembered what she was singing and reverted to standing shyly behind the microphone, shoulders hunched. The most drama and passion she allowed herself to inject into the number was to rip off Beyonce’s patented “pretty girl angst” choreography — touch hand to head, make pained facial expression, run fingers through hair, make a fist and Shake It Defiantly. It didn’t work. Oh well. Here’s to next time.

And I do *not* see a big hit for Kat here. I know that there is plenty of similar music all over the radio these days, but even if you are not a huge fan of the genre, it is easy to see (hear) that there are many performers who have it all over Kat.

Give a listen to Fergie or Pink or even Nelly Furtado gettin down. WORLDS better than Kat. And their ballads are gorgeous as well.

I wonder if Kat’s live promo performances are going to prove to be a help or a hindrance to her sales…

Purple, I understand that some people really love his CD. I just cant get as excited about it as I can about other things he has done. Hope your doing ok Purple. I think of you from time to time.

Patience, patience….we’ll know next week if Taylor starts getting his single played on radio…and whether it was a good decision or not to move a single release out past both the Christmas period (where it’s hard to break into radio with Christmas songs) and also past the slowest sales period of the year – January.

We’re going to start having radio stations doing giveaways, announcing they’re bring Taylor to town in concert (like Star94 in Atlanta already has), and for all that payola we should expect some significant airplay.

I think the airplay and the tour together will bring new life to the CD sales. But I’ve had to learn to be patient!

ok…go listen to her from :54 to 1:14 (you gotta love when she goes flat on a 4 note chorus)…that is painful…and again around 1:55 omg…..then at 2:10 she gets all diva singer….hahahaha….and is flat…then she loses it again at 3:22 and her end is flat out stupid.

I really like Taylor’s CD too, especially Give Me Tonight (heh.) It’s very good. I play it everyday. Even on the songs that are not my faves, Taylor’s voice and passion are pure and convincing.

The old Taylor–I won’t call it the “real” Taylor since I refuse to box him in–would not have sold any better than this CD. The reality is that while he could have done better with a timely single release, this may be what Taylor’s sales will always look like. Period. Old or New, Taylor is not mainstream. He don’t fit in with top 40. So while I think Taylor’s next one will probably be more to the liking of those who prefer Old Taylor, I don’t think it will fly off the shelves either.

And, honest to God, I wouldn’t trade Taylor’s musicianship to have bragging rights about big sales in the present–and I know I’m not alone. Taylor’s fans hold him to a very rigorous standard. Even when he tries his best under tough conditions–and I believe he always gives 100%–we complain. If he came with a CD full of Open Toes or generic rock, many of us would be hella disappointed with him–even if it was the biggest selling CD of the year.

It’s been said before, but it bears repeating: Taylor will have a long, sustainable, critically-acclaimed career. Some of the others who are blowing up today will not. That’s the price paid for being trendy and current.

Kat sings much better than Paris Hilton. Looks prettier than most of todays young female artists. Will do well. But I don’t wanna play the game of how well she sells. I also am not going to worry or fret about Taylor’s sales. I mean, come on, I am an Elliott fan who is still optimistic and waiting patiently for his single & cd —- Taylor is doing fine by my standards…. I haven’t decided whether to go to his concert yet in Atlanta since I don’t think I can stand standing in the crowd. Whimp, I know. Since it is general admission, and tickets still available – I may decide at the last minute to go and buy tickets at door. We’ll see. However, I do listen to his cd and my favorite is Heaven Knows. (It kicks A$$).

I listen to Chris on the radio every day now and wonder why they haven’t played any of Taylor’s music yet. If they play Kat, I will probably have a car wreck in shock. I have considered emailing the station and letting them know that Elliott will be having a single on 2-13 – one of the guys was a fan of his during the show.

You know, I might be alone in this, but as much as I like reading Idol snark I do hope all of them do well. Taylor is my favorite but I am THRILLED for Chris. I always liked him too. And Kat, as much as her current album is not my style, should do well. I think she definitely has the it factor and can sing, so I see no reason for her to not sell a ton of records if she puts out catchy songs. The thing is, the more Idols that get out there and do well in their genres, the better and more varied talent AI will attract in the future, which only makes the show more interesting. And I loved saeson 5 so much I want it to go down as teh BEST SEASON EVER so if Kellie, Bucky, et al make some oves that only helps. The only downside is that Taylor might get overshadowed by the other Season 5 talent, but I blame that on the whole lack of single thing. Anyway, good luck to Kat today… more power to her!

Paolo Nutini is one of my fav new artists. Last Request, Million Faces and Loving You are great songs. I either heard about him here or at Gray Charles. James Morrison is the other one I learned about. He’s awesome, too.

I like Taylor’s CD. I think he had fun learning and getting the bigger budget to have all the bells and whistles.

I could listen to “People Get Ready” “Ain’t No Sunshine” etc all the time and never get tired of it. His new CD – I can’t listen over and over – but it is still his great voice and passion.

I sampled all of Kat’s songs on iTunes again, just because there is, of course, the slight possibility that I am insane and exist in a Bizarro World, and that Katharine is, in fact, the Musical Second Coming, with a voice on par with–nay, better than–Whitney, Christina, and Mariah.

And I’m happy to report that I’m not crazy, and that her voice is still tinny, whiny, annoying, and completely devoid of passion or soul for me. It’s just…MISSING something. Thank God for her she’s got the looks to make up for it; otherwise, no one would care about her.

Nippy, sometimes I wonder, if Kat were given a fantastic song to sing, something that actually MEANS something, like Pink for instance, could she pull it off?

My gut says no. Kat lacks a really important ingredient. She is unable to connect or to make you feel. Its the ingredient that all of the people you just mentioned have.

I cannot even imagine Kat tackling a song like Pink’s awe-inspiring, Dear Mr. President, for example.

Of course, we never know what an artist is capable of until they are allowed the opportunity… For example, who would have thought that Charlize Theron would one day be Oscar worthy (Monster) after seeing her in Mighty Joe Young.

However… Kat seems to lack any sort of fire or passion in her performances. And it’s been far too long and far too many lackluster performances to just ignore it.

I really like Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s CD too, especially Give Me Tonight (heh.) Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very good. I play it everyday. Even on the songs that are not my faves, Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice and passion are pure and convincing…..

While I’m at it, I’ll weigh in on the topic of the emotional impact of songs and singers. That has got to be the most subjective aspect of music that there can possibly be. In fact, probably for most people, the reason that they really like a singer is that the singer reaches them on an emotional level. Furthermore, the main reason we don’t like a singer (at least one that at least some other people like) is that they don’t reach us emotionally. So we can argue about this all day and I guarantee you that nobody is going to change their minds one way or another.

I just checked out Paolo Nutini’s new release on iTunes and I definately will purchase it. I’m glad his music has made it to the US.

ETA: He is already in the Top 100 albums (#99) and was just released today – CD wasn’t listed earlier when I checked after watching the link on here.

yeah, a bit of a train wreck.

The lack of rehearsal time really showed. Kat said last Friday, she had hoped they got the song down. Don’t think they ever did, and her lack of confidence in pulling the song off really showed.

Then there is the bass player, chosen last week then quit Monday. Didn’t see anyone playing base behind her on Leno.

I never understand why they’d wait three or four days before the first live television performance to put together a back up band.

She does not as you can see but as I said before, I dont think the tween set cares much. They are generally a shallow lot. Thats all part of the growing process.

Just watched her Leno vid and it was no better and no worse than I was expecting. She sounded fine – nothing offended me pitchwise which is unusual for her – but the whole thing was justà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦blah. She has zero performance charisma that I can detect and her body language is oddly closed and almost, I dunno, defensive. For at least half of it she looked like she didnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to be there. And for somebody who wants to project à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“sexyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  she seems incredibly sexless to me. No connection to the audience, no projection of the meaning of the song – she could have been singing about doing the dishes – just a pretty girl with a pretty voice singing a pretty song *yawn*.

I couldn’t have said it better myself. I love this blog and some other American Idol-related blogs and probably will stick around for a while, but I’m pretty much turned off on the show at the moment.

I had a nice “watercooler” conversation with my Assistant today about this. She’s watched every season of AI and was a Daughtry/Hicks/Yamin/Covington fan last season. She has watched a little bit of this season’s auditions, but said she’s bored with it and will wait ’til the top 12 this season to start watching again. We both agreed that last season had some great, diverse and interesting talent that will be hard to top.

Basically, “I’m over it” too and while the negativity on the show is to be expected, I’m sick and tired of the negativity in the media, especially about Taylor. I understand that one’s enjoyment of music and entertainment is personal and subjective and everyone is entitled to their opinions, but sometimes I think the critics go overboard trying to be disaffected, dismissive, above-it-all, or self-congratulatory know-it-alls.

I know. It goes with the territory.

I realize critics are paid to critique. Luckily, if I don’t enjoy a particular artist, I can just try to ignore him or her. I don’t have to go out of my way to read reviews of his/her music – because I don’t care.

By the same token, if I like an artist, I listen to their music and enjoy it, I don’t need the negativity from the critic class because it just pisses me off.

I will be interested to hear whatever music the contestants this season make after the show, but I’m not interested in getting invested in a talented person and essentially being told week after week that I was “wrong” or that the artist I like is a “hack” or whatever. Ugh.

I just wanted to add that after the Leno performance last night, I replayed Taylor’s Ellen performance, and fell in love all over again with that guy! His smile was just the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. Some have criticized his smile when he sang JTFTW on Ellen, but it didn’t bother me a bit, and he did get into the emotion of the song later. He feels what he’s singing. He just started off charming the audience.

Re Kat: It’s nice to give each Idols’ fans a “day” to celebrate, and I shall refrain from further snark regarding song lyrics, etc., today at least! In a way, Kat is the embodiment of what this show started to be all about way back when… a pop idol search. She really is the first person to record a straight-out pop album and this may well pay off for her. My powers of prediction are shot to hell at this point, though.

After watching Kat’s Leno clip and reading some of these posts, I realize what AI has taught me. AI is seriously about instant success. It’s not about talent. These guys are just disposable products to TPTB. Talent is secondary to you being able to fit nicley into mainstream so you could sell some cds and make the AI machine some money. If you succeed, you get patted on your back and sent to the head of the class to be used as measuring sticks for every other Idol PRODUCT after you. If not, you’re easily passed over like a three day old sandwich at the Deli. Note to Taylor, when you’re from the AI machine, no one gives a darn how long it took you to make your cd. Nor how much imput you had with your cd if it’s not fitting in or selling.

Kat is doing what she does best selling her looks first and her talent second but it does not matter because it will be her looks and packaged sound that will drive her cd sales. Chris sounds and looks like very rock band out, so he will be fine for now. No one should be surprised of his instant cd success. We should be surprised if he failed because his image and sound is so mainstream pop-rock. I see him and Kat kinda of in the same light. They are hip and what’s happening now. Can’t see and won’t predict their future.

Kellie, I feel will go on to have a very successful music career if she keeps her head straight and learn from the best. Don’t sleep on her just because this cd is a little slow. The Country Music World supports their own and if she gets that one hit cd under her belt, she might just give Carrie Underwood a run for her money. Taylor, I kinda see in the same vain as Kellie. This cd should not be used as an end all to be all for his career. I think he will also go on to have a very successful music career both above and “under the radar” because music is who he is. He is still learning and growing in the ommercial world of music. Once he gets his footing and if TPTB in the record company truly sees him as art and not commerce, then the old school image that AI boxed him into might be a thing of the past. I believe he, out of all four Idols was/is the most difficult to package but here’s hoping that will work to his advantage. Hopefully, TPTB will leave him alone and trust his experience and let him mold himself on his next cd.

After seeing those pictures of Elliott, I will say the same for him as I did for Kellie. If he keeps his head straight, take in everything he has learned and grow in confidencce he can succeed. I can see him in the Indie Ire, Jill Scott world. The Indie music world.

I listen to Taylor’s cd on the way to the office every morning,and I like most of the songs. I agree, he was in heaven having all the big band sounds.

JTFTW is such an excellent song, full of passion and that sexy growl of his. Agree, Bean99 — all of them, including Chris, deserve all the sales they get and I am proud of all of them. Each of us has a favorite, and some enjoy more than one season 5 idol’s music — but we can all agree that from this last year’s crop, all of them are recordable and surely deserve whatever sales and future success that they get. No sour grapes for one idol doing better than another for me – because I truly do think that of the top group — there is enough variety in the artists to all be successful without impacting the other’s success. So, go Kat, go Chris, go Taylor, go Kellie, go Paris, go Elliott, go Ace, go Bucky, go Mandisa, and, even go Lisa, Melissa & gulp, Kevin. Ayla & Patrick Hall, and others as well.

That door thing has been killing me. I don’t understand why they did it. I thought maybe it was because they wanted footage of people listening outside the door, but they have Ryan listening in front of the door that can be opened (maybe the Producers want him to get his head smashed in by an angry contestant?).

I think they are correct about the editing. We only seem to see the rejected singers try the blocked door (they actually have wedges under it in Memphis), but rarely the successful ones.

Somebody could teach a film course on how AI manipulates viewers.

My 2 are 21 months apart and grown now, but have always been close. My son was too young to even know to be jealous. The first year was the hardest (not alot of sleep) but after that it is easier because they play together and kind of have the same interests.

This is a serious case of lazy fact finding as one can imagine. It’s bad enough that they always try to interject Chris’s name into everything AI but the now they have him as a non-winner auditioning in Brimingham. Ruben has been now downgraded to non-winner. But i must say, the one good thing about the quote is, Bo gets a little respect for being a non-winner but still making an impact.

I wonder how AI plan on using Chris this season. Something tells me he will be given the AI title, if not in reality but theory by the end of this season.

Not even Star Search used their constestants, winner or non-winners, in such a desparate and sad way as AI… They actually left them alone and to make a name for themselves. Some went on to become successful and some did not but Star Search never played “the desparate to continuously toot our own horn” game that AI just keeps playing.

They do entertain each other, but they also fight with each other as well. My twins are taking a musical theater class. They are putting on Peter Pan. One got the part of John and the other got the part of Michael. The one that got the part of John started crying because she is tired of always being with her sister. She is now a lost boy, a much smaller part, but she is happy.

I hear you, JJ. And now that my boys are 8-1/2, I’m seeing that it’s kind of hard to be a twin. Their “id” is formed and their “egos” are trying to develop a sense of who they are, and that’s hard when there’s always someone else around looking for the same attention. They are totally different people when my dh take them separately to do things apart from each other. Time pressure forces them to do almost everything together – I’m always praying we’re not f’ing them up in the process.

Just speculating, but probably why SOTR is higher is because most people buying today are ones getting the whole CD, since it was just released. This year, unlike previous ones the single song isn’t included on the CD itself, so people who may have held off on getting the single because of that are going ahead and getting SOTR as well when they buy the CD. If they buy the whole CD, they already have Over It so they don’t need to get it separately. Songs bought as part of the whole CD don’t count as a single track sale as well do they? If they do, you can junk this theory

I was kinda puttering around last night after I logged off and I turned on my DiVX Player and all of the Taylor vids popped up from Idol. I decided to take a walk down memory lane hoping that this walk, which I have not taken for about 4 months in its entirety would make me feel a little less melancholy and sad than it usually does. I thought that since season 6 is underway that perhaps this time would be different.

It wasnt. In fact, the feelings were even more deeply felt.

I want so badly to get into season 6 and I know its early yet and something inside me tells me that its time to move on but wow, the memories of all that happened in the last season, not just on Idol but in my personal life, all the new people I have come to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“knowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  here and from GCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s..its overwhelming.

To watch Taylor from the short clip where he is leaning against that brick building, alone, to the actual audition to the long harmonica stroll to Levon and onward to DIMYP, its like reading a novel and turning the pages. The changes he underwent, the criticism we all took from people who all thought we were nuts, the struggle to get him to the top. It took a toll on me I believe. It was worth it in the long run but it was still a toll.

As I read my words back to myself I hear how dramatic they sound but its the truth. For me, its the truth. A guy comes onto a talent show and changed my worldà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦in a dramatic way. First by the music he brought with him, then to the TV show which I could NOT ignore then to GCà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s, then to MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s then to the Go Phone, then to the Pop Tart Concert, back to MJà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s where I have met some unbelieveable and genuinely nice people and nowà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Im going to Boston with Donna where I will meet several people I have never seen, never heard but have a gut feeling that this is the right thing to do.

So yeah, I like Sundanceà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s voice a LOT but Im not feeling the love. least not yet for him and if I keep comparing him or anyone to Taylor, this is never going to work. So I have to find a way to not compare, its not fair to them and its not fair to me.

Something about Taylor Hicks and the people I have met along his journey which was also my journey that I will take with me to the grave. I can look back and see that it was a very very good year. A year in which I turned a big corner. I think its no coincidence that AI brought me Taylor who brought me the voice which brought me to all of you which brought me tons of laughter and fun which ultimately made a very bad time go by very fast.

So, Im gonna give it my best shot, this AI thing I mean and see where it takes me but I gotta feeling nothing will ever be the same again on AI. Not for me but I will watch.

I was thinking of prefacing it with the following:

Allen, your theory seems plausible. The album is doing very well on iTunes and has been most of the day. Of course, sales of individual songs are probably much greater than those of whole albums in terms of absolute numbers. So the competition is much stiffer to score high on the song list.

Aren’t they giving any extras with Kat’s CD? In the US, Taylor’s CD came with a free download for DIMYP. At Walmart, both Chris and Taylor got bonus tracks. On iTunes, Chris also had bonus tracks (different than those at Walmart). So, if you wanted all the songs Chris released, you needed to buy his entire album twice.

Actually I thought they pan over there quite a bit – everytime they go to the judges initially it’s from the left over to the right and it’s then you can see Taylor’s picture…. right over Simon’s head – perfect placement if you ask me – one of the pleasurable moments from these horrendous AI auditions.

Didn’t they say that the best auditions were in Birmingham? I hope this means that we get a higher proportion of good auditions to bad ones. Would be a nice change of pace since the season began.

This is why Im trying to say that there are many others who have a better singing voice than Taylor, but its the OTHER part that wins you over in an even bigger magnetic draw I think. He makes me want to protect him, he has this wounded aura around him and it makes me feel sad sometimes. Its like heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a little kid and he just wants to please everyone. I think those of us who come from divorced or troubled childhoods can really connect to that part of him.

I aint no shrink (though I play one in the batcave) but I think its his vulnerability that draws women to him in droves. That and the fact that he has beautiful features, soft, sweet, handsome features so when you hear that rough, edgy, raspy voice come out of that sweet looking person, your not prepared for what your hearing and YET, when he sings something like à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Cant You Seeà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ , the pleading and the sadness make you FEEL the melancholy. And when he does what he does to a song like HN, well Im hard put to remember the last time I was transported so powerfully as I was in that video. I STILL watch it nearly everyday.

Although Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d love to see Dingo on Dr. Phil with Taylor, I wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t want to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“trickà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬  her. Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢d much rather just talk her into it. As far as I know there are no bonus track extras (I think if you got it from Sony you got a poster and someone mentioned 3 free months in the fanclub or something like that with the Walmart CD). I think her bonus track basically materialized as the I Lost You single in December (I Lost You is not on the CD, Dangerous the other track from that single is). Kat did mention in the video chat she did this last weekend that she was going to try to get some of the tracks that did not make it to the CD released (presumably to itunes or something similar). Rumors are that she recorded 20-30 tracks in total for the CD. She also mentioned they were thinking of doing a cover of Lovely Day (originally by Bill Withers, also covered by Luther Vandross among others). No clue what that is in relation to though, probably just for live appearances or something like where Chris did the version of Sunday Bloody Sunday on whatever web site that was.

LBB – I saw that…I thought they said she made top 40 but not 24..

Kerri, I wanted to say Congrats. My friend has two kids that are 12 months and 2 weeks apart, a boy and a girl, the boy is older. These kids are best friends, yeah they fight, but the boy really watches out for his little sister. My firend said the first 2.5 years were crazy, but now it’s smooth sailing, the kids are 8 and 9. My two girls, on the other hand are complete rivals. They’re 5 years apart, 8 and 3, looking back I wish I would’ve had mine a lot closer in age.

Just to Feel That Way” – Taylor Hicks

Granted, first single “Do I Make You Proud” was as formulaic as they come, in the typical mold of “AI” debuts. And on “Just to Feel That Way,” he emits a powerhouse vocal that goes from coarse growl to cool-guy sensitivity; in fact, it is more convincing than most anything he sang on the show. This song could make the grade at country and with the proper promotional push, adult top 40. Hicks may be a star after all.

Wasted” – Carrie Underwood

This song exemplifies the kind of taut, well-crafted lyrics that make Nashville the songwriting capital. Underwood wraps that velvet voice around the lyric and drives home the message of determination and hope with a beautiful performance. It`s another stellar effort from country`s top female artist.

I’m not sure if this is accurate. JTFTW has a more rock opera ballad feel to it than “country”.

Hi all, just got back from taking my son to Best Buy to purchase the new Alkaline Trio cd (I bet none of you knew they had a cd drop today, did you?) Anyway, no sign of Kat’s cd at all. Not in new releases, on any of the end caps or alphabetically in the aisles. They did however, have Alkaline Trio. I also noticed that they removed Daughtry from best sellers and placed him in his alpha location. Taylor has moved from an endcap to his alpha location, too. Don’ know what any of this means (probably nothing) just thought I’d report.

Taylor is now #50 on HDD with 8,930 sold for the week — 79.99%.

I spent most of the day on the phone, on hold, with three different “representatives” and ultimately resolved absolutely NOTHING, then gave up at the 32 minute mark on a fourth call. Wondered if it was possible to cram a phone through a paper shredder but decided against it.

Went to the post office where I stood in line for about half an hour to pay ransom (postage due) on packages I’d sent to a former client who’d moved and did not leave a forwarding address for anything other than first class mail, then had to pay the postage AGAIN to resend to the current address. Once, twice, three times the postage, and I don’t love ANYBODY at that point…

There’s more, but I’ll spare everyone the gruesome details.

Is this normal?! For a cd?!

Are they supposed to be reviewing the music, or the sex object? Isn’t this the second report we’ve seen that they sent a jillion Victoria’s Secret type glossies, (but the first one we read said they didn’t get the cd – JUST the pics!)

Evening everyone. I’m back from the doctor. I know this is a great opening for some great snark but it’s a serious question. Anyone ever had to get a cat scan of their head/brain? If so, what was it like?

Vegasdee, that quote was the one I loved and was referring to also. I’m curious, what day was it on?

I have had to get a cat scan of my neck both with and without dye. They did the first cat scan, then injected the dye and did a second. It was not painful or uncomfortable. The dye felt a little warm going in. The hardest part was trying to lie still. There was nothing at all horrible about it and, in my case put my mind at ease. If your doctor recommends it, don’t hesitate. A mammogram is much more uncomfortable.

Little debbi, I have, painless, just lay there and it circles your head. This was a few years ago,may be different now.

If its a CT Scan its not invasive and is painless. Some people are a bit claustrophobic but the new machines are open at the other end so you dont see that much anymore but just tell them that anyways and they’ll probably give ya some Valium.

Funny you mentioned that, I have a pounding headache and was just going to take an Advil.

I had a closed head injury when I was in my car wreck. I had lots of scans Debbi, none hurt. Most I was unconscious for lol but I had to get many more for a few weeks. They dont hurt. Thats my experience.

I too had them, Debbi, after my stroke and my experience is similar to everyone else’s. The worst part of my first one was waiting for the technician to show up! He’d gotten involved in a traffic jam and was 45 minutes late. The actual test is nothing to fret about at all!

Jersey, Margie and Dingo – Thanks a bunch. One more question. How long does it take? I’m just worried about the keeping still part (not really – just want to know).

I have had open MRI’s on other body parts, just didn’t realize that a cat scan was similar or the same thing.

Dingo! I was following all the behind the scenes plotting while I was at work. It was freakin’ hilarious. I knew what your reaction would be, which made it even funnier to read along. I could just picture you over in the batcave, fillin’ the valium drip, cursing Chris under your breath, just going about your business, while all this was going on behind your back. BWAHAHAHAHHAHA!

After the shock wore off, that had to have made you feel pretty good. LMAO.

Have you ever had a cat scan at all? If not, all I can tell you is that I had one for back pain a few years ago. You just have to lie very, very still on a table thingie that moves (whatever part of you that needs pictures) inside this tunnel-like thing. There’s no pain or discomfort, except for a cold table and nervousness. It will give you peace of mind, Deb, to know if your fall did any real damage.

Miss, I had just gotten home from my little couple’s house and sat down with my bunny feet plopped atop the desk reading the MJ posts when out of the blue, I see my name and so of course my bunny ears perked up and I started reading more intently and then my eyes got like saucers and I said, what the fuck? Have they lost their collective MINDS?

You must have read my post so the rest is history. Its VERY flattering. I am humbled but no freakin’ way.

Thanks Bobbi and Desdemona. The really shitty part of this (I guess I’m vain) is this. When I fell I skidded down on my back and scraped off a big piece of skin from the back of my head. My doctor told me today that it went down to the skull and I will have to have a surgeon take a skin graft from somewhere else and sew it onto the back of my head. I’m not afraid of the surgery, but think it really sucks that no hair will ever grow there and I will have a frikkin bald spot.

Now, if I was still living in south Florida instead of lovely lovely frikkin Long Island, there would not be a basement, therefore there would not be any stupid stairs and I wouldn’t be going through all of this in the first place. :ponder_tb:
