Idol Chat: Will Country Week Find Someone Singin’ the Blues?

    ….
TVGuide.com: Simon made headlines a few days ago by saying that this year’s crop is by no means the best Idol has ever had. In your opinion, what have been the strongest and weakest seasons of Idol?
Kimberly: Well, obviously my favorite was Season 2 because those are my people! I was so lucky to be put in a group with real artists. There hasn’t ever really been that weak of a season because the show became and stayed No. 1.
Rosanna: I haven’t seen all the seasons, so I can’t answer the question accurately. But I’ve spoken to other people and they’ve also said that this season is not exciting them as much as other seasons.

Martina McBride Headlines ‘Idol”s Country Week

…Martina, who had never watched “Idol” prior to appearing on the Canadian version of the series, admits that her initial opinion of the talent competition was based on hearsay. She had heard people in the industry complain that the “Idols” weren’t paying their dues like other up-and-coming recording artists, since they didn’t have to perform in clubs and other small venues to attract the attention of a record label…

‘Idol’ at home in the country

‘IDOL’ CHATTER: What do you think of the country invasion?

Unlike the past two seasons, however, none of the current contestants has displayed a clear affinity for country music. That’s too bad for them, because since Season 1 finalist Josh Gracin released his first single in 2004, country has proved to be the most reliable format in which to launch a post-Idol recording career.

Four finalists à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Gracin, Season 4 winner Carrie Underwood and last season’s Kellie Pickler and Bucky Covington à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ have made the trek to Nashville. All have met with some measure of success, providing a few bright spots for a genre that has seen sluggish sales so far this year…

Sanj-ABBA makes Idol an entertaining show at last

Martina McBride is tonight’s guest mentor on American Idol, and you know what that means: country twang, Sanj-ABBA, big hats, off-key renditions of Wrong Again and When God-Fearin’ Women Get the Blues — a pair of McBride standards — and a day of mourning in Nashville. Oh, and did we mention Sanj-ABBA?….

TVGuide.com: I just don’t see the finals coming down to two sensational and Idol-worthy singers. I think it will be two very different types, and people will just choose which type they like better.
Rosanna: I don’t think that it’s because they’re not Idol-worthy à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ there are three very, very strong vocalists [in the mix]. The issue is that this year lacks variety. There’s not a distinctly country person, there’s not a rock person…. They’re all pop in different guises.

…the three being Lakisha, Melinda, and…..? A toss-up between Blake, Jordin, and Phil for the third spot, perhaps? Also, imho, Melinda and Lakisha don’t fit the different “guises of pop” as pop is traditionally defined. Just take a look at their respective song choices so far…

    Cowellà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s criticisms are no à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ matter
    By Ayla Brown/ Idol Thoughts

I think the judges of “American Idol” have more power than we give them credit. We all know that Paula is the nice one, Simon is the mean British judge and Randy is the person who just “keeps it real.”

I truly believe that one of the reasons Haley Scarnato was eliminated last week was because of Simonà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s comment on her wardrobe during Latin Night.

After Haleyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s performance of “Turn the Beat Around,” he stated she had no chance of advancing based on her vocal ability and she should just show off her legs to make it further in the competition. His comments really caught Americaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s attention…

…And his fans loved him for it. From a killer bout on the harmonica (“The Runaround”) to his trademark awkward, jerky dance moves during a cover of Traffic’s “Medicated Goo,” he induced squeals of delight around the room. Those moments showed his genuine flair for entertaining, but a few quieter, subtler songs could have given him the versatility of a true performer.

Little to do but count the days until Doolittle’s crowned

…Without the serial drama of “will this be the week Sanjaya is finally ejected,” there would be nothing for fans to talk about.

Phil Stacey and Chris Richardson aren’t going to win anyway, so the order in which they are dispatched is inconsequential except to them. However, should Sanjaya be allowed to stay beyond them, at the expense of legitimate contenders Jordin Sparks, Blake Lewis, La-Kisha Jones or, unthinkably, Melinda, it likely would signal the end of Idol being taken seriously as a legitimate talent competition…

    ‘Idol’ lurches to country theme

At the risk of sounding like the Comic Book guy on “The Simpsons,” last week’s had to be the worst “American Idol” (8 p.m., Fox) ever. The Latin-music challenge left everybody off balance.

With few exceptions, the contestants chose safe, upbeat numbers that would not be out of place at a wedding or office Christmas party aboard a cruise ship. And as a mentor, Jennifer Lopez was scrupulously inoffensive.

Martina McBride is aboard as guest mentor and performer, so this must be country week. Will things go as badly as the Latin excursion?

None of the remaining seven contestants seems to have an affinity for achy-breaky hearts. On the other hand, the resident divas should have no trouble with ballads.

So weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re now presented with Bucky Covington, country singer, with a healthy chunk of rock thrown in (as with many modern country albums). He acquits himself ably in the singing department, with an appealing husky edge to his voice. CONTRACT CRUSH FOR KNOWLES

BEYONCÃ’ ° Knowles and her lawyers are looking forward for a big payday. The diva only has two more albums left on her contract to Sony, and insiders say she’s gearing up for a major renegotiation with the label. Her longtime boyfriend, Def Jam president Jay-Z, “has been trying to get her to Def Jam for a while. He would love to oversee her career – he kind of does anyway,” an insider told Page Six. But it could also just be a ploy to get Sony to pony up more money to Knowles. “Sony has had a bad year – all the hit acts, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and the ‘American Idol’ kids, are all on BMG,” our source said. “They can’t afford to lose Beyoncà ©. They’ll probably mortgage the farm to keep her. Which means a lot more money for Beyoncà © – and Jay-Z if they get married.” Reps for Sony and Knowles didn’t return calls. Coaches’ cold cold heart-to-heart: Gene

Unlike the Idol judges, our Idol coaches have an appreciation and understanding of country music, so ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s no wonder theyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢re a little apprehensive about this weekà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s detour into the sounds of Nashville. Will the Idol contestants get their twang on or drive us Crazy? Gene Sculatti starts off with his suggestions on ways to make it through the night.

This should be a challenging week for the not-so-magnificent seven. To me, the last casualty à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ Haley Scarnato à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ mightà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve been the one contestant expected to fare well with country fare. Like Katharine McPhee before her, she had a strong enough voice (but not much personality) and probably would have been able to wrap it comfortably around a contemporary country song. But weà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll never know…..

Awww! That’s sad. Wish I hadn’t read that, it makes me feel bad for Sanjaya. He’ll never be able to do normal stuff again because everyone will boo him?

  • LB2

Someone on another board had a different account of it. Apparently the camera was on Blake, Melinda and Phil earlier on in the game and there was mixed reactions. Then later, the camera panned onto all the Idols and there were boos. Sanjaya and Blake (who were sitting together) started cracking up together. I don’t know which version is true but the 2nd one came from a person who called her friend who was actually at the game. The first account came from PerezHilton (and was picked up by other magazines). Believe whichever version you want.

Good morning everyone. I haven’t posted anything of substance lately… :) so I wanted to drop this in for Dingo,Debs and lg if they are lurking…you guys should check her out. And also for dave and Kerri who like her too. :) This girl is great. Brandi Carlile. (since I still have no sound, I haven’t searched her music on the internet, just heard her recently on the radio) Anyway, good article from my local paper.

“Well, Gray Charles is completely gone!! I just went to the site and was redirected to Taylorà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s HQ site. Bummer. ”

All day yesterday the thread under the tour (mega blog) was spinning out of control- a lot of arguing about the end of the website and wht and how people should and should not react. There were some pretty bad comments that probably caused the shutdown. Gray had indicated he would wait til tonite to shut it down but I’m guessing he was p*ssed.

Can’t say that I blame him. Why do people have to act that way? Like he said on the site “It was about the music” :sad_tb:

  • LisaATL

Well, Gray, if you are lurking here, you will be really missed. Even when you quit posting, there was still a measure of comfort that we could access all the great things on your site. Now that is gone. I feel like I lost a talented and clever friend.

  • Smiley

I have alot of respect for Gray Charles. I rarely went to the site after it changed but lurked alot during last AI season. It must have been really difficult to have the influx of bedazzled SPers who wanted to take the site in such a drastically different direction from where he intended. I would love to see it resurface in the future, just the way he wants it to be.

  • Paula

Canà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say that I blame him. Why do people have to act that way? Like he said on the site à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“It was about the musicà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

It was really bad, and I think it actually started on the Boogie and carried over. I don’t blame Gray one bit for closing down. This is how a lot of them acted during the time that he ran the site and perhaps was part of the reason not to renew the contract.

  • hicksaholic

Actually I’m gonna have to say I think it went both ways yesterday- some posters expressed their opinions and others attacked. It didn’t seem like it was all one side or the other. JMHO

This is very true, there are many artists that got their starts on reality based TV, Frank Sinatra, Pat Boone, Leanne Rimes, Sawyer Brown, Britney Spears, etc. Why would getting your start on AI be any worse?

  • MaryS-NJ

Re. Gray’s, I missed what happened yesterday. Too bad the whole thing had to end on a sour note, if that’s what happened. I am looking forward to the Crack Mgmt Team improving Taylor’s other sites so that they can fill some part of the void. Frankly, though, I think the Boogie and Season Of The Soul boards do a fantastic job–with much less bickering and self-importance. People who miss Gray’s should check them out.

There’s a rumor going around that Jordin was supposed to sing last tonight with I Will Always Love You. But the producers persuaded her to save the song for next week and make it acappella; they’re going to give her the pimp spot then on what is probably the biggest night of voting this season. Blake was supposed to get the pimp sport next week because he is the only one who hasn’t gotten it yet. But they switched it to this week because he really impressed Martina and once again, because he has never gotten the pimp spot.

If it’s true (I hope it’s not because I like Jordin), the producer machinations make me a bit angry.

  • sammy

Sounds like they’re assuming that Jordin will be there next week. She should be there, but you never know.

  • tinawina

If ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s true (I hope ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not because I like Jordin), the producer machinations make me a bit angry.

I hate producer machinations too (I am still mightly pissed over the sniping at Taylor this season for instance) but as far as this is concerned… somebody does have to go last, and they do try to end on a showstopper performance every week, so I don’t know if this is so bad. That song does belong more on inspirational week anyway, IMO.

BTW, Good Morning everyone! I’m heading off to staff meeting now, see y’all in an hour.

  • Metta

Personally, I don’t mind reading complaints, critiques or “bitching” as some call it. Gray actually didn’t mind it himself and said so. People made some interesting–and humorous–points. It’s the bickering that’s off-putting.

  • LisaATL

Yes, we are not entitled to anything in this life. It is a luxury that we get to indulge in being Taylor fans. I can’t believe I am saying this, but I don’t need to be a Taylor Hicks fan to live and breathe.

    RE: Fantasia’s Broadway Draw.

Simon Cowell sometimes criticizes a performance as “too Broadway”.

But why is that a bad thing ?

This just shows how NARROW his perspective is regarding the musical world.

Broadway is one of America’s ( and New York in particular )chief attractions. Millions of people come to New York PRECISELY to watch a Broadway musical. It is one of the biggest money makers in the entertainment industry.

And get this — Broadway is one of the venues that REALLY challenges you vocally. YOU HAVE TO BE ON TOP OF YOUR GAME NIGHT AFTER NIGHT *LIVE*. No sound mixing, no synthesizers, no technological masking — just pure vocals and of course — ACTING.

And if you’re a Broadway star… just 6 months of performing on stage will have you set for the rest of your life ( assuming you don’t overspend your assets ).

Nathan Lane and Matthew Broaderick have both earned tens of millions performing in the smash hit — THE PRODUCERS.

Question — Is American Idol going to tout Fantasia were she to win a TONY ?

  • Metta

If you can manage wading through the pictures of McPhee that grace the front page

    Gulp! You mean he doesn’t?

Cheese – The speculation is that he tailored the second Birchmere show to fit the venue and their wack rules. So, for example, he opted for songs with stronger lyrics, since that suited a setting where you can practically hear a pin drop. Why sing a funky Give Me Tonight when people can’t get up and groove to it? I bet a million bucks he ain’t playing that venue again.

Everybody has been saying for quite sometime that Melinda Doolittle is a shoe in to be the next AI winner. I agree. But I couldn’t figure out how they would market her and sell her album. Her talent is heads and shoulders above the rest of the group, but she is sooooo boring and she seems much older than she is. Her genre is definitly show tunes and she has stuck with that. I have an idea that maybe AI is looking for a broadway star. They already have alum with Grammies, an Oscar, Country Music Awards, and so on. Fantasia is doing great with The Color Purle, but Oprah Winfrey is the producer and making most of the big money on it. I think AI may be wanting to produce and have an AI star(or stars) in a play of their own on Broadway. Are they going for Tony Awards next?

  • Lisa B

I was just going to say that jersey.

This one goes out to all the tiny people . . .

What matters is that you want to see and make and do, on as grand a scale as you want, regardless of what the tiny voices of tiny people say. Do not be critics, you people, I beg you. I was a critic and I wish I could take it all back because it came from a smelly and ignorant place in me, and spoke with a voice that was all rage and envy. Do not dismiss a book until you have written one, and do not dismiss a movie until you have made one, and do not dismiss a person until you have met them. It is a fuckload of work to be open-minded and generous and understanding and forgiving and accepting, but Christ, that is what matters. What matters is saying yes.

  • MaryS-NJ

Spenser, I’d like to meet up before the show.

I have to make arrangements to take time off from work on Friday, and I’ll be bringing my daughter and we’ll be traveling with jersey by train from NJ.

I hope to see Sexygirl, Metta and JJ too and all other MJers who will be attending.

    touristas – Taylor Hicks Tour

    http://www.graycharles.com/talk/?CategoryID=2

Considering the amount of undeserved crap that was thrown at that man in the past few days, it’s quite generous of him to leave this open (for the next few days, at least) to allow people to save their tour plans.

I’ll definitely miss GC’s, not so much because of the Taylor info there, but that site – even what was just posted on the front page – introduced me to so much amazing music. That music became the soundtrack to my life for the past year. On a personal level, I’m deeply appreciative of that. For me, it was all about the music.

Plus, the man had a wicked sense of humor. Loved what he wrote.

    ETA:

db, that was just the chuckle I needed this morning.

    :clap_tb:

  • sexygirl

From the perspective of someone who never commented and who had no freakinà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ clue what was going on, to come in and read a quote addressed to the à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“tiny peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ could à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ could à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ come off as insulting.

    I hear you..

I was over there on Sunday reading and in the midst of the whining and finger pointing, Gray posted something. The praises of appreciation and “we will miss you Gray” went up. Only to be replaced in a short period of time with the whining and finger point. It was so sad that it was comical..

  • sexygirl

I hope to see Sexygirl, Metta and JJ too and all other MJers who will be attending.

What’s with the hoping, I thought it was a done deal. Unless JJ and Metta decides to start their butt kicking session early, Then I’m stuck trying to prevent two GORGEOUS women from ruining their make-up before the show..LOL

  • emeralgem

Plus, the man had a wicked sense of humor. Loved what he wrote.
    __________________

That he does, and I will miss GC and the site. I did not post there often but did visit there several times a day.. Gray Charles was the first site I found last year when I was trying to locate information concerning Taylor.

And I would love to say thanks for all he did, but I won’t.. Knowing him, he would find a way to delete a thank you Gray post.. even if it was posted on MJ’S blog..

  • madaboutu

LisaB…………..thanks for posting that thread for GC. Luckily for SoCal people, someone had started an e-mail address for us to keep in touch, back when Gray announced he was quitting, but the touristas thread was supposed to stay open till the end of the tour. Can’t blame “Gray” for just getting disgusted. None of us are “entitled” to anything from anyone who has a blog. (nor in this case the artist it supported)

  • calimari

Thanks for posting that touristas link. I was heading there yesterday to get some info before it went away & it was gone, and I was bummed because I really needed the info. I don’t know what happened there the last few days. I didn’t read all the posts – skimmed some – posted rarely – but I’ve been going to Gray’s since last March, and I really miss what he used to offer. The other music/artists with soul – he introduced me to a lot & opened me up to looking at new artists again in general. And he does have a wicked sense of humor. I hope after a while he might consider just reposting the old archives or coming up with a new brainchild on music in general. He obviously has a knack for it.

  • jersey

SpenserJ – I agree with Mary and Sexygirl. I would definitly like to meet up with all the MJ peeps before the Beacon.
As far as GC is concerned, I will also miss the site. I rarely posted but always read GC’s posts. I hardly ever read the comments just so I could avoid the hand wringing. Gray, if you’re lurking, best wishes.

  • SpenserJ

Cool! I’m really looking forward to meeting all of you guys. Sexy – when I see you in chat, I’ll give you and/or Metta my e-mail address. Mary already has my contact info.

Now, I just have to convince my real life friend who’s going with me that it is not at all odd to meet internet strangers lol.

  • jersey

    LOL Spense.

  • emeralgem

Spense, I can relate. Last summer, I had to convince my daughter when we went to the AI concert in Nashville that meeting up with 30 plus people for dinner at Joe’s Crabshack before the concert was going to be ok… She thought I had lost my mind since I had never met any of these people and did NOT even know their real names…

  • sexygirl

Now, I just have to convince my real life friend whoà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s going with me that it is not at all odd to meet internet strangers lol.

I was definitely glad my husband was in the men’s room when I decided to walk up to the person I thought (hoped) was Kerri and say, “Hi, I’m cheese!”

  • madaboutu

LOL cheese………………you just gave me the best laugh of the day. I am picturing you and Kerri now. At least she has a normal screenname unlike some of us.

  • jersey

Mad – you mean you would have a problem going up to someone and saying “Hi, I’m mad!” :lol_tb:

I know Kat isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t perfect and thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s why i like her, because she isnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t afraid to show her imperfections. Some see it as her fishing for compliments, but i see it as a girl who is slowly coming around to who she is as a person, fitting into her own skin and realizing just who she is. I also donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why people bring up Kat all the time if they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like her, just to point out her flaws (not necessarly directed at anyone here just a general observation) I could talk about how Taylor doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know who Franz Ferdinad is, or post unflattering pictures of him, but i choose not to because a) ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not going to change anyones opinion of him b) it just seems petty, i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t mind Taylor, but i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t follow his every career move or watch all his performances/interviews just to talk about everything he did wrong. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t do it simply because i donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t care enough about him, same with all the other idols. I follow Kat because I like her, and that should really be the only reason to be so invested in someones career.

Very good statement here Rad, you basically took the words right out of my brain. I personally have never judged another idol either.

Oh and for Katharine fans or other interested parties, Kat has been certified GOLD. Way to go Kat!!!!

Thanks, guys. Really appreciate the morality lesson. Spare me.

Just like most of the country, I love a good trainwreck. Anyone who ever buys a People, Us Weekly, OK! or In Touch can’t claim that they don’t, either.

  • SpenserJ

Forget about convincing your firends. I had to convince myself that what I was doing was not insane..lol

You guys are cracking me up. Cheese – I would refer to you as that, even if I knew your real name lol.

Well emeral, a lot of people already know my real name since Dave always randomly shouts it out in chat lol. But, I will also be happy to tell them if they don’t.

  • calimari

My husband couldn’t laugh at me for meeting internet friends in Chicago. When we went to Colorado for a wedding in January, he had to meet up w/ a cadet from the Air Force Academy who is member on his internet gaming site & take him to dinner. So I get a totally free pass. He met his internet friend BEFORE I met any of mine!

  • madaboutu

jersey…………I have thought about what that would be like. I even thought about wearing a T-shirt to my concert with that on it to see how many people would respond as if they knew what it meant. It certainly could be an ice breaker! Or, people might just steer clear. :)

  • Little Debbi

How about when one of you goes up to some other woman and says “Hey are you sexy?” I want to be there for that one.

Ever hear of freedom of speech????

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

BTW, my blog is not the place for “morality lessons” as Kat put it. If it bothers you to read snark or criticism of your favorite Idol, you should not be reading here at all.

Finger-wagging drive-bys really really bug me. If you have nothing else to contribute, don’t bother. This blog is not for you.

  • db*

I could talk about how Taylor doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know who Franz Ferdinad is, or post unflattering pictures of him, but i choose not to…

    That’s fine. I don’t mind doing both…

Wth, does Taylor seriously not know of Franz Ferdinand?? Ambulance Ltd but not FF? I thought he was joking. If he wasn’t joking…bah, he has lost his musical credibility with me. :rolleyes_wp: :wink_wp:

    http://www.kozack.com/images/taylor2.jpg

    …and I’m a (mean) Taylor fan. ;)

  • Nanny Mcphee

Who’s giving morality lessons, I hardly even said anything, that big long comment was written by Radname yesterday, I just thought it had some good points that’s all. Where is this morality lesson that you speak of, is it the fact that we don’t talk bad about other idols, or post pictures of them that are unflattering just to laugh at them. I’m not finger waving at anybody. This was a conversation that went on for 2 pages yesterday and everything was fine and then I throw in one little comment and all of a sudden it’s wrong to talk about.

All I really wanted to say was that Kat now has a GOLD record, I’m really excited about that, and thought the other Kat fans that come here would be too.

  • Metta

How about when one of you goes up to some other woman and says à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Hey are you sexy?à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ I want to be there for that one.

    LMAO!

Re. Gray’s, it would be great if fans on the other Taylor boards would just move on. The scolding, fingerpointing, and continued handwringing about what this means about Tay’s online community or Western civilization or whatever is over-the-top and taking on a life of its own. The sun will rise tomorrow, fans will find other communities, and Taylor will continue to make great music that we can all enjoy. RIP Gray Charles.

  • Nanny Mcphee

    à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦and Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m a (mean) Taylor fan. ;)

No you are a Taylor fan with a good sense of humor, big difference.

  • JJ

is it the fact that we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t talk bad about other idols,

We snark on all idols. *** just gives us great material.

  • db*

No you are a Taylor fan with a good sense of humor, big difference.

But as a Taylor fan, if I snark on Kat, then I’m “mean,” correct? That’s a huge contradiction, ihmo…plus, this is MJs. Per her guidelines, we can snark away on all Idols, including our favorites and those who we think are, well, put nicely, snarkworthy.

  • Metta

Debbi – I just found out that someone else won that Newsday contest (meet/greet with Taylor, front row seats, limo to/fro Beacon show.) Awwwww, I was rooting for you! :-(

  • cheese

We snark on all idols. *** just gives us great material.

If Taylor got caught on film with his finger up his nose to the last knuckle, I would totally snark on him.

Has anyone seen Kerri since the weekend? Should I check my husband’s pockets?

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

is it the fact that we donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t talk bad about other idols

You don’t seem to have a problem talking bad about people who openly dislike her, though.

Look, it’s great you like Kat. Good for you and all that. She’s not evil, she’s not the devil incarnate or anything like that. Eventually she’ll probably grow up a little bit. But while you and rad see a sweet, dorky, imperfect girl growing into her own skin, other people, including myself, see a girl who wrinkles her nose at criticism, who has said mean and derogatory things about fellow Idols and other performers, who constantly whines and bandies about excuses for various things, and who routinely says atrociously stupid tihngs in the press. Sure, all this may be explained away as “oh, it’s cute, she’s not afraid to put her imperfections out there,” but to me that’s just another justification for her often-groan-inducing behavior. And yes, while Katharine is beautiful and I will never hold that against her, I do feel that sometimes some of her fans are blinded by that. I mean, really, would people be defending her so hotly as a “cute, dorky, imperfect theater girl” if she looked like Chastity Bono or Rosie O’Donnell? The short answer is no. And yes, it is disappointing to me that a woman’s (because she is an adult) immature, petty, nasty behavior is offhandedly and cutely dismissed as “awww she’s so imperfect which makes her really perfect which is why I luv her!!” because of her looks.

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

If Taylor got caught on film with his finger up his nose to the last knuckle, I would totally snark on him.

I would post that picture Every. Day.

You didn’t know?? Taylor was singlehandedly holding up all of Western Civilization, akin to a modern-day Atlas. The sun will in fact not rise tomorrow; it will implode in less than sixteen hours. Oh, and the four horseman of the Apocalypse are saddling up for a ride tomorrow. Because there will be no sunlight, no one will see it coming.

No actually that is not what I was saying at all, I don’t know why I’m even bothering to try to explain myself when it really won’t make a difference. It’s the way people go after Kat that makes all the difference. That’s all

I also donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see why people bring up Kat all the time if they donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t like her, just to point out her flaws (not necessarly directed at anyone here just a general observation)

The above statement made by Radname is what I was agreeing with, because IMO it’s very, very true.

The above statement made by Radname is what I was agreeing with, because IMO ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s very, very true.

What’s true, that we bring her up a lot and snark on her? Uh…yeah, we do. That’s not a secret. So what’s the big deal? Do you think that by coming here and posting and calling us “mean” we’re all going to have ephiphanies and realizations that we’re terrible, terrible people, and go and run and beg for forgiveness and repent at the Altar of Katharine and stop talking about her completely?

No. We’re not. And if she didn’t want to hear it, she shouldn’t have become a public entertainer.

  • madaboutu

db………..you reminded me that I miss Percocet and the myths.

I miss Percocet. Or was it Ritalin? They were both a bit before my time.

Hey Metta. Yea, I figured that out yesterday when I did not get a phone call. That’s o.k. Westbury was good enough for me. I’ll look forward to that tour promoting the future acoustic, soulful, bluesy cd. Just curious, where did you see someone won?

  • JJ

    Or was it Ritalin?

SSSSSHHHHHHH DON’T SAY THAT!!!! Its like Beetlejuice, if you say it 3 times she will come.

  • db*

Dang, I think we hit three mentions of you-know-who. *sigh*

  • Nanny Mcphee

Do you think that by coming here and posting and calling us à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“meanà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬

I wasn’t calling anyone in here mean, I just said it was mean to look for flaws, in All people, not just Kat.

Anyway it doesn’t matter, just forget it, you don’t care about what I’m saying, you just want to snark on people so have fun with that. Everything I do will be against the guidelines, so this is pointless anyway. Please forgive me for trying to make a point, I’m sure no one else has ever done it before.

What’s so funny is that I get along with all of you when I’m in chat, but god forbid I say anything in here, I wasn’t even arguing or being combative, just trying to make a simple point.

Now I will go on about my day.

  • http://myspace.com/girlgeek mj

Nanny, there are no rules in chat. There are very specific guidelines for the chat posts. That’s the difference.

I’ll repeat myself, if the snark bothers you DO NOT READ IT. If you continue to comment on it, I’ll be deleting your posts.

  • Smiley

Okay, I missed Kat with her finger up her nose. WTF?

Oh shoot! I forgot “the other”. I also miss dingo, and griz with her great pics. One thing about life……nothing stays the same.
Good luck to your favorites tonite. The western night should be interesting. On DWTS I think Clyde will finally get to go home and I don’t think it will bother him.

Definitely need Percocet back to tell us what the closing of GC means for Taylor’s future and the future of thw world- I also miss Dingo- I guess she is a lot less invested in Season six and has moved back to the political blogs.

Back to GC I read every comment there but was never really comfortable when I posted- kinda felt like whatever I said was not interesting enough for anyone to respond to (probably the case) but I love mj’s and still go thru every post searching for the Taylor news. I’ve been to The Boogie board, TMO, TOSP but none are as comfortable as mj’s. Which one do ya’ll think will be the closest to mj’s for Taylor news know that GC is gone? THHQ?

Well, you can always stick around here. :) I’m sure important Taylor news will continue to posted here. I occasionally lurk at the Boogie, and the news is normally easy to find there; I’ve never been to any of the other sites, so I can’t speak of those, and I have no intention of joining THHQ…

  • madaboutu

Taylor fans…………I just e-mailed Mike at KOST and asked for a Hicks fix, and he answered that he would be administering a dose between 2:20 and 2:45 this afternoon. He signed it Doctor Mike. Cute huh? I e-mailed back that I would “alert the patients.”

  • Paula

I was on Gray’s site when it went down. There were a number of people that wouldn’t let it go with what they told him. They were argueing with him, and I don’t blame him one bit for shutting down. I went over there mostly every day, but rarely posted anything. Then somebody gave the URL for a video that she made of different shots of Taylor, mostly from the waist down — plus she wrote words using the F— word many times. This video has been on youtube for some time, and Gray does not go for that stuff on his site. Now there a long thread at THHQ: “I Miss Gray” which is up to about 23 pages long.

  • Metta

Just curious, where did you see someone won?

Read it on the Boogie. A post by someone whose friend won.

(For Spenser. ) If Sanjaya wins, I will date Clay Aiken.

db, that was just the chuckle I needed this morning.

    Hmm.

  • madaboutu

Speaking of Clay, he will be playing at Pala Casino in August I think. I might go if I like my Taylor experience at that venue. My sister likes Clay, and she is my new concert companion. (say your EWWWS now)

    (say your EWWWS now)

    Eeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww!

Which one do yaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll think will be the closest to mjà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for Taylor news know that GC is gone? THHQ?

FWIW, MJ’s the best! But if you want a Taylor-centric blog “tayloristheboogie dot wordpress dot com” has the daily blog posts that seems to be picking up some refugees from GC – and it links to the Boogie Board. I like Monkbot talk too. THHQ is kind of infuriating to use, IMO (although less so than taylorhicks dot com). I hope it gets fixed so it’s more user-friendly.

  • madaboutu

db……….heh, I’m not a Claymate or anything like it. My sis and I are both widows, so we decided we would start out with the cheaper concerts and work our way up. It started when I called her up and said I want to go see Taylor in concert and she said OK even tho she knew little about him. So here in L.A. we have tons of artists to see, so now we will pick and choose till Taylor comes back again, or until we run out of money. Ha Might try to see Elliott too.

  • Smiley

Any updated spoilers for tonight? Or is the list from earlier today pretty much it?

  • SpenserJ

    Hmm.

Shit – I’m busted. Sorry Nevada. It was just one short giggle at Clay’s expense. I’ll go to confession ASAP. Maybe they’ll have a slot open at St. Patrick’s when I’m in NYC this weekend. Perhaps one of the MJer’s going to the Beacon on Friday can give me a wakeup call at my hotel Saturday morning to remind me to repent?

I had a pretty good streak going of non-clay-hating, I really did. This is all db’s fault.

  • radname

I guess i’m the only one that noticed that Kat is actually scratching her nose, and not picking it? Much like that Seinfeld episode. THERE WAS NO PENETRATION!!

Well, it’s almost 3:30 and I have not received my call from Ace telling me that I won the private party. Shame on you, Ace. :nono_tb:

I guess I’ll just have to rendevous with him at the Jewel.

  • db*

This is all dbà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s fault.

    :innocent1_tb:

So here in L.A. we have tons of artists to see, so now we will pick and choose till Taylor comes back again, or until we run out of money. Ha Might try to see Elliott too.

Although I live in SoCal as well, if I lived closer to LA, I’d be going to a lot of shows too. I’d also be perpetually broke, so maybe it’s a good thing I don’t live closer. :) I have a co-worker who is my concert buddy – actually, she calls herself a “concert whore;” I’ll let her keep that title. ;)

Spense……….I will absolve you. I think I brought up Clay without thinking of the backlash. :) Actually, the casinos bring in the big acts at much lower prices so we are going to see a couple there. Then its on to the Greek and Bowl and wherever.

Which one do yaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ll think will be the closest to mjà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s for Taylor news know that GC is gone?

The Boogie Board is the best for news. They have a news section that gets EVERYTHING. Their site is well organized and easy to find what you want.

Regarding meeting up with people at the Beacon, I support this in theory, but feel I should be stealth-like in my movements. It’s best if the enemy doesn’t see me coming. A handy tip I picked up in Sun Tzu’s Art of War. JJ has no idea what she’s dealing with.

I think Kat was going for it IMO. Any pictures of her french kissing her dog? Please post more “icky” Taylor pictures. They’re a nice break from all the “sexy” ones.

I guess ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢m the only one that noticed that Kat is actually scratching her nose, and not picking it? Much like that Seinfeld episode. THERE WAS NO PENETRATION!!

I’ve seen that picture before — it was when he was 25 lbs. heavier.

I think Kat’s Home is good, but I don’t like Love Story at all. Actually, she sounds nasally to me. Did listen to Over It, because I don’t like that song to begin with. Kat still needs to learn some stage presence — just stands or sits and doesn’t show much emotion.

There are probably lots more unflattering pics of Taylor than Kat. That one seems to be on the AI tour, going by the length of his hair and the lighting behind, which looks like one of the after performances. So that means……………….I know too darn much.

  • radname

Yeah Taylor was fat in that picture, but people can still be fat and good looking?

  • patay

Obviously you haven’t seen Tay in action-in concert.
The hip swerving, pelvis thrusting, Elvis-like snears are enough to drive any girl wild.
Not to mention the obvious–awesome smokey, sexy vocals, hot harp and guitar playing.
Ever heard of Elvis, very similar style.

It’s called “feeling the song.” Thank God he’s more concerned about getting inside the emotion and delivering a powerhouse performance than he is with his image, or whether the camera is on his good side. That’s part of why I love him as a performer.

Feeling the song? Taylor does twitches in songs that dont’ have anything to do with the song, and during you are so beautiful on AI he made one huge frowny face through the whole song. You are so beautiful, but i’m going to frown about it.
Stop comparing Taylor to Elvis, it makes me throw up in my mouth everytime the comparison is made. Taylor is a more Joe Cocker like performer than Elvis. In fact, just now watching a Joe Cocker performance reminded me how much of a copycat Taylor actually is

  • patay

Maybe, but once he spots me, he would float down to me.
Don’t stop, what fun is that?

  • FOTIAI

LMAO radname – I LOVE YA! I completely agree, it sometimes seems like more of a convulsion than a “feeling” or even demonic possession! :devil_tb:

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

    Stop comparing Taylor to Elvis

    No. :-)

Feeling the song? Taylor does twitches in songs that dontà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ have anything to do with the song, and during you are so beautiful on AI he made one huge frowny face through the whole song.

To me and my entire family watching that performance, it was pretty clear where he was going with it–approaching a woman who was so beautiful to him, who he needed so desperately, that he could barely face her. You may disagree with that interpretation, but it really roused up a lot of emotion in me, and at times, when I’ve watched it again, has almost moved me to tears. So yeah, I’d say he does a good job of getting inside the emotion of the song. :-)

When Taylor dances, I see someone who is…yes…almost possessed by the music. Too possessed by it to think about whether he looks good or pretty or marketable. That’s part of what makes his image so attractive to me. “Feeling” a song, IMO, is more than smiling when the song is happy and frowning when it’s sad. That’s ACTING. Not feeling.

  • tinawina

Heh. I think we should play “Caption this” with that Taylor picture, because it has way too much potential to let it go. I’ll start:

    1. Taylor Hicks reacts to his latest Billboard chart position stats.

    2. “You mean VFTW doesn’t stand for Vote For The Whiteguy?”

Ok, so they’re not great. But I tried!

We aren’t going down the “My Idol is better than your Idol road” now are we? Kat fans have had to deal with plenty of snark thrown at them over these months. A little Taylor snark isn’t going to hurt ya. And the TMI stuff? Just, no, ok?

  • patay

I think that’s called “getting into the song” and where you see a frown, I see a man so deep into what he’s singing and really lost in the song.
I don’t think YASB would be quite right, with a smiley face, his face showed a real connection and honesty.
And yes he is Joe Cockerish, but he is definitely channeling Elvis too and has that Elvis snear.
I’m glad he has some great influences to look to, but is his own unique performer.

Chris Richardson couldn’t have made a better choice for himself. Quite honestly, I wouldn’t have categorized that song as country at all, in fact, when I first saw that I couldn’t place the song, then I previewed it on ITunes and thought Tim McGraw is on that song? But you’re right, there’s not a lot of “lyric” going on with this song, it could be a tough night for him.

As for Blake (I think I’ve made my props for Jordin already), I just get concerned, each week, that he’s going to do too much with a song and lose the fanbase that counts on him to “step it up” every week, country songs are country song for a reason, no beat-boxing, woo-hooing, etc has ever worked for that kind of music – he needs to be careful – IMO.

  • madaboutu

Hey, Mike just said that “madaboutu” needs her Taylor Hicks fix, and that is coming up. A DJ of his word. He really said my real name but it would sound funny if he said my screenname.
Any thoughts on what Sanjaya will do with his hair tonite? Will he wear a gingham shirt and cowboy hat?

  • pj

I agree with you to a certain extent. I think Blake is savvy enought to understand that country music should tell a story and the singer should connect with the emotion of the song. I’m hopeful that he’s going to do well tonight.

Speaking of Blake, I posted some of the UK Edits that we don’t see see here at http://teamplaid.com this morning. One is of all the Idols talking about the biggest misconceptions written about them in the press. Blake and Phil certainly have a sense of humor.

Here we go…I’ll get us back on Season 6

Sligh’s new blog CRACKED ME UP!! I am seriously loving his…..outspoken opinions of the judges and Idol…..I probably slapped my head about 20 times while reading it, KNOWING you all would have a field day with it!!

    http://frommymindtoyoureyes.blogspot.com/

Anyway, I loved it………HEE!! GO SLIGH!

Daaaaang, Patti was sporting an impressive mohawk. Sanjaya should be jealous.

Thanks for the links, Kat. That’s actually the first time I’ve seen live Joe Cocker. As much as I love Cocker’s recorded version, I’m still partial to Taylor’s live AI rendition.

Not being a fan of the country genre, I’m going to have a tough time making it through tonight’s show…

  • pj

Steve-o, thanks for the link. Sligh makes some good points, but I disagree with him about the Bucky/Haley comparison.

  • Little Boy Blue

Sligh makes a good point in his blog about BACK STORIES driving the program and its ratings.

This excerpt in his blog says it all :

Please feel free to disagree – we each have our measure of talent. I don’t pretend to be the know-all and end-all deciding what talent is…just stating my opinion here.

Now, is this year a better tv program? No. I don’t think so. Last year, the producers delved into backstories a little bit more and the audience felt as though they got to know the contestants. I mean, I can still remember seeing footage of Chris in his house and of him working at his job in NC. I can remember Katherine’s mother being a story line as a vocal coach/stage mom character. They were television characters who we got to know and came to love. This year, there were 10 hours of audition footage and we still didn’t meet 7 of the final 24. There were 10 hours of audition footage and we saw more about the workout chick from NY than we have seen of any of the top 7 finalist left. I mean, the most backstory we have seen was of Phil’s baby McKelah, and it was home footage that Phil sent back.

So, the questions is this: do we watch American Idol as a tv program or as a talent competition?

Obviously, as the ratings drop a little lower each week, we realize that the answer is that we (i.e., the average American) watch it as a tv program, and this year simply isn’t as engaging as last.

What Sligh says more or less echoes what Peter Noone says — THIS IS REALLY A VOTING COMPETITION, NOT A SINGING COMPETITION.

And oh BTW, does this statement of Sligh not remind you of what Simon Cowell is doing to last years’ winner in particular by bashing him at every turn ?

The judges, I think had to have been mis-represented here. The basic jist of the show, as I understood it, was to create artists who will sell records – it’s why the show was created in the first place. It just seems like a horrible marketing campaign for the ambassadors of the show (the judges) to demean the ability of the artists involved to sell records before they have a chance to create a record to be sold. If they are indeed doing that, then it seems like bad marketing to me. If that is what they are doing, they will slowly and effectively run the American Idol brand into the ground.

  • jersey

Thanks for the link, steve-o. Interesting to get his perspective. Like pj, I don’t agree with his Bucky/Haley comparison.

  • db*

I probably slapped my head about 20 times while reading it, KNOWING you all would have a field day with it!!

Oh, I don’t know where to even begin, lol. I think he’s spot on with the current problem of the judges pimping their favorites, even if they’ve given a crap perofrmance, but I don’t think that differs from the previous seasons. There has always been judge pimping, and AI6 is no exception.

Does AI6 truly have more vocal talent compared to previous seasons as a whole? I don’t know; I’m not qualified to answer, as I’ve only really followed AI5 up until this point. Yet even though he says he is taking himself out of the equation when comparing the talent pool, I can’t help but think that there is some amount of personal bias to take into account since this is his season. If asked, every former Idol will probably say that their season was the best season in terms of pure vocal talent. Basically, I think it’s impossible for him to be completely objective about the matter. In fact, even as a viewer with a favorite Idol, I also think it’s impossible to be one hundred percent objective. Until we have agreed upon a set of qualification on what makes a good vocalist and then start doing side-by-side comparisons of each seasons’ contestants, then at that point we just might be headed in the direction of objectivity. That being said, like Sligh and many others have observed, there is almost no variety when it comes to musical genres represented in their year’s competition. I completely agree with that point.

I’m still mulling over his post, but I’ll leave it at that for the moment….

ETA: I mulled and added a bit to my original post…

  • neonorange

I really loved Taylor’s expressions on YASB. Have you ever loved someone so much that it hurts? Damn, it was a right sexy look to me.

Congrats to Kat on Gold. Does Season 5 have the most gold/platinum artists so far?

Sanjaya, shoulda sung “I want my mullet back”.

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

I think Sligh really hit the nail on the head with just about everything he said…..I absolutely loved it….I’m not sure why, but when I finished reading it I was super proud of our man Sligh. He obviously really thought through the post…..and it’s INTERESTING…at least to me…I was biting my nails and reading it with bursts of Guffaws at his guts….I swear….it was a good read for me……hee

Taylor will appear on the Regis and Kelly Show Friday, April 20th.

About: Live with Regis and Kelly: 2007/04/20
Donald Trump joins Kelly as co-host and star of “The Larry Sanders Show,” Garry Shandling drops by to talk about the show’s DVD set. Singer-songwriter Taylor Hicks hits the stage, and Myra Goodman from “Earthbound Farms” shows the “Live” audience some tasty organic foods as “Green Week” comes to an end.

Sligh had some good points but definitely don’t agree that this is the most talented group of singers yet. I do agree that there are 3 maybe 4 really good singers — the rest are cannon fodder. I do agree that this season is missing the backstories. Hardly feel like I know any of them except for Blake (I love his friends videos on Youtube – come see cupcake!)

Sanjaya Named Today’s Girl on Maxim

The country is getting increasingly worked up over American Idol and Sanjaya. Today, Maxim Magazine has named Sanjaya à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Girl of the Day,à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ which is a feature of their website where they normally profile famous and non-famous women dressed in underwear or bikinis wearing lots of makeup. Today, though, they are profiling a 17-year-old male American Idol contestant! Cruel.

Sanjaya is entertainment, what Paris said about why she’s actually voting for Sanjaya was rude. Funny that her and some of the other “idols” are trying to bring down a show that gave them such a huge chance. • Abilymom

Thanks, Bobbi. I remember that now.

Jeez, that’s my second idiot post today. One more and I have to listen to Kat’s album for the rest of the week.

    :dunce_tb: :dunce_tb:

I really enjoyed reading Chris Sligh’s blog. He’s very smart and a good writer. He makes some excellent points in the article about what’s going on in the show this year. I just don’t agree that the talent is stronger this year than in the past. Everyone of them seems to be missing something that makes them “special.” The top 3= Melinda (boring), Blake (not a really great singer) and Jordin (not there yet) just don’t have it. I wasn’t a fan but I’m impressed with the blog.

  • radname

wow boulder soul, got all your kat stuff book marked huh! Probably look at all of it atleast twice a day.
So song spoilers aren’t true hmmmmm..i wish Ricky would get off his high horse and spoil us already!

  • Metta

I predict everyone will do better than expected tonight. And Chris will get a tongue bath from the judges no matter how far up his nose he sings. I am SO looking forward to Martina McBride. I predict she will be an awesome coach. So far, that’s one thing that this season has over last: the guest coaches.

(Private note to JJ: When you feed your kids tonite, attempt to serve something that actually falls into a food group.)

  • MaryS-NJ

I could talk about how Taylor doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t know who Franz Ferdinad is

But, not everyone is well versed in early 20th Century European history.

    What?

    Oh, THAT Franz Ferdinand.

  • madaboutu

db………..that was no earthquake. That was thudding along the I-5. Someone sent an e-mail saying there is a huge pic of Taylor on a billboard for Pala Casino on the I-5 to San Diego. LOL

  • db**

    Yes. :blank_ee:

Done. So, I loose one asterisk when (when not if) Sanjaya is booted; what type of penance is required before I can remove the second asterisk??

Oh, and I had a dentist appointment today that I totally spaced about. I can’t believe I did that. *sigh*

    ETA:

dbà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦..that was no earthquake. That was thudding along the I-5. Someone sent an e-mail saying there is a huge pic of Taylor on a billboard for Pala Casino on the I-5 to San Diego. LOL

LOL, seriously? That’s pretty cool. I went down to San Diego about two weeks ago and noticed two Pala billboards on the I-15 right by Lawrence Welk Dr; there are two more at the 15/91 interchange in Corona. It’s sad that I know this, isn’t it, lol???

  • Boulder Soul

wow boulder soul, got all your kat stuff book marked huh! Probably look at all of it atleast twice a day.

    RAD:
You call that snark? Amateur. LMAO

FYI, I look at it at least 5 times a day. :rolleyes_tb:

  • mississippigirl

I hope MJ and everyone else will endulge me a moment. I’ve been reading some other sites today while bored at work and since I have no other “home” out there except MJ’s, please allow me…..

I just want to say thanks to Gray Charles in case he’s lurking. IMO and no one has to agree with me…but Taylor wouldn’t be where he is today (whatever he hopes that to be)without Gray and his site. Sure, it became something else when it became the official blog, but I have never seen a website that grew from one man’s imagination and desire to form an on-lne community based on a singer on AI, do what his site did. Although I respectfully disagreed with Gray a couple of times, he had my utmost respect because of what he cultivated. And I think, for myself, looking back…..more so than Taylor’s talent, which was obvious, it was what Gray kept cultivating and nurturing that took me from a casual fan to a committed fan. Yes, it was initially my fascination with this guy on AI (AI!!) that took me to Grays (and MJ’s), but it was so much more that kept my interest.

This internet thing is a strange bird. I have watched with fascination, and sometimes… to be honest, with an uneasiness as all of this “fandom” has unfolded. But, it is what it is.

So, that’s all I have to say on that subject. But, to Gray, a big thanks. To MJ, a big thanks. This has been one heck of a ride.. thanks both to you and your posters!

    Somebody queue the AI6 music….. :)

  • jpfan

    Congrats to Kat on Gold

I want proof this actually happened. Bucky has that “something special” while Haley is “nothing special.” That the difference between the two seasons.
By the way, Elliott has his playlist up on iTunes. I downloaded the whole list and the first song by Jeff Buckley is quite something. I think Taylor fans will especially like it. Super sexy/

  • MaryS-NJ

I don’t believe this has been posted yet
    False Idol

  • sexygirl

Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s best if the enemy doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t see me coming. A handy tip I picked up in Sun Tzuà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Art of War. JJ has no idea what sheà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s dealing with.

Metta, you really cracked me up with this one. I just had a wicked visual of you in your NINJA stance..LOL Remember I know what you like like which really adds to the visual..

  • db**

By the way, Elliott has his playlist up on iTunes. I downloaded the whole list and the first song by Jeff Buckley is quite something. I think Taylor fans will especially like it. Super sexy/

Dang, that is a good playlist. Sam Cooke, John Mayer, Gorillaz, Marc Broussard…and “Memphis Soul Stew” showed up on a few of Taylor’s playlists too.

  • madaboutu

db…………that’s OK. We all know stuff that no one would expect us to know, thanks to AI and the internet and whatever idol we follow. I know there are certain words that mean different things to me now :lol_ee:

  • sexygirl

As much as I like it, I think the single is dead in the water.

Actually it was the cd that was dead in the water for the single came out…

NOTE: Taylor has NEVER done Just To Feel That Way live as good as he sounded on the album.

    LBB, that’s your opinion, right???

  • Shannon

Don’t know if you are watching but – Good job for Phil and he is my least favourite! So much for the spoiler though. I hope the rest are wrong!

..and it looks like they are!

  • db**

I know there are certain words that mean different things to me now :lol_ee:

LOL, I’ll try not to think about that while I’m chopping onions for my scrambled eggs tomorrow. ;)

Shameless music pimping: Ozomatli – Magnolia Soul

It’s iTunes’ free single of the week and I definitely recommend checking it out. A bit funk, a bit rock, a bit hip-hop, and a really fun New Orleans horn section shakedown towards the end. This may be my driving-with-the-windows-down song of the spring.

  • dvls

Oh damn, I’ve loved Sanjaya the past few weeks but that was really disappointing. Even Pickler did it better! :(

  • madaboutu

dvls………….what was Sanjaya wearing? I want to see how close I came.

  • dvls

    dvlsà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.what was Sanjaya wearing? I want to see how close I came.

Oh, I didn’t really notice his clothes, just his hair!LOL! Hold on, I’ll rewind. The hair though was crazy curly in the back with the front covered by a do-rag. Ok, he was just wearing blue jeans and a dark button-down longsleeve shirt with a black t-shirt underneath and some kind of necklace.

Lakisha sang Jesus Take the Wheel and got panned by the judges. I actually think she wants to go home to her little girl! And Chris thinks nasally is a form of singing. BWAH!! Well, it’s not a GOOD form Chris!

  • Abilymom

db**, you may lose both asterisks when Sanjaya is eliminated. Or if Kat ever says something profound.

So I’m thinkin’ when Sanjaya is eliminated.

  • cat

    Ok….

Sanjaya really, really ought to go home after that hot mess.

But I will bet it’s bye-bye Lakisha tomorrow.

And congrats Melinda on breaking out of the chanteuse box, taking a chance and nailing it.

  • Former_AI_Junkie

Oh damn, Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve loved Sanjaya the past few weeks but that was really disappointing. Even Pickler did it better! :(

    Ahhhmm… Pickler… country music.. Sanjaya.. country music…

Give the kid a break, dude. He’s still more interesting than any of the other contestants

  • madaboutu

Thanks dvls…………I was way off on the clothes, so will probably take a peek. Two hours till its on here. Waiting for the concert to start about NOW!

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

I’ll say this…….I had NO idea that Phil wanted to be a country singer…..and, I’m also gonna say that he was, by far, for me…the best of the night. Sorry, Team Plaid and Melinda lovers…but I really thought he was the best

  • cat

    steve…

Yeah, Phil was a pleasant surprise tonite. He did great! Although I think he should have taken the opportunity to cover that shiny dome with a 10-gallon.

  • lg

Hi msgirl, my sentiments exactly. I am so bummed about the events of late. Great post, and GC if you’re lurking, hang in there, dude :)

I haven’t been following this season like last year, but best of luck to Melinda, Jordin and Sanjaya.

  • onlyforelliott

I’m voting for Phil and his line has been quite busy. I’m not doing an exact tally but I estimate that I’ve gotten between 5 and 7 votes in out of at least 80 attempts. I hope that’s a good sign for him. Jordin is my favorite but I think that Phil did a really fine job tonight and deserves to stay.

It’s nice that Bucky’s CD came out on the night they do country. I bought his CD today. I love country music and Bucky was right behind Elliott on my list of favorites. Even so, the CD surprised me, probably because “A Different World” was just okay for me. I like most of the songs on the CD, even the one where he’s diesel fuel and she’s holy water.

I haven’t been very good at keeping up with everything lately and this may have been mentioned weeks ago or even several times but I found it almost by accident today. If anyone is interested, Walmart is offering a free download of Bucky’s “Carolina Blue.” Of course you have to have their software and an account.

    Hey guys!

I just got back from campus–we screened “Before the Music Dies” and had a panel discussion with entertainment attorneys. It was awesome…if you haven’t seen the movie I highly encourage you to buy it :-)

  • jersey

Kat – I bought it a while back based on some stuff Gray had posted about it. I havent’ had a chance to watch it yet. Maybe I’ll try to set aside time this weekend. I forgot all about it!

wooooo….scandal! Sanjie is on the bottom on Dial Idol

  • Abilymom

Dial Idol has been pretty much way off all season.

  • Botay

Jordin was so good tonight! She sang Broken Wing better than Martina imo and that is saying something! I love Martina! Melinda was full of spunk and loved her song too! The best of the night. IMO

  • longsong

I have a feeling that Sanjaya’s going home tomorrow. Dang, Sanj! Why can’t you be more consistent?!

  • folk

my fav ellis paul has a free download up on his myspace. it is an old song that is wonderful….it is called “Autobigraphy of a Pistol” the lyrics are amazing. He lives in Charlottesville Va now, so he is giving the free download…

    http://www.myspace.com/ellispaul

  • radname

Favs tonight: Phil, Melinda, Jordin and Blake (the last two because i like them the best although i think the first two had the best performances of the night)
Ew Factor: Sanjaya (goes without saying), Lakisha (girl sucked ass on this song, i actually liked the beginning but the chorus was a hot mess), Chris (lololol at nasally being a singing style, so’s being out of tune but you try not to do it because it sounds awful)
I’m predicting Lakisha to go home

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

Tomorrow is the ‘split the 3 thing’ right? where the top vote getter picks a group? I will be interested to see who the top vote getter is….

  • WhatdIsay

If Dialidol is right it should be Phil!
    1-3 Phil Stacey –

    1-4 Jordin Sparks –

    1-5 (B3) Chris Richardson –

    2-5 (B3) Melinda Doolittle –

    3-7 (B3) Blake Lewis –

    5-7 (B3) Lakisha Jones –

    5-7 (B3) Sanjaya Malakar

  • radname

Wow! Sanjaya is actually at the bottom!
What will happen to the show if he gets kicked off?

  • jdtower23

Look at DialIdols raw numbers….I think they mean more than their formula, which just isn’t working this year….

Sanjaya has DOUBLE the number of calls than any other contestant..

  • http://www.idolicious.com Kat

Sanjaya has DOUBLE the number of calls than any other contestant..

Yes, but many Worsters use DI, so he’s going to have more calls. It’s the busies that really count.

  • madaboutu

Never fear! People are going to make Sanjaya the next……American Idol. Power to the people when they get pissed off. :thumbdown_tb:

  • madaboutu

Phil and Jordin were really good!

  • cheese

    Congrats to Kat on Gold

Too bad she had to dig it out of her nose. :rolleyes_tb:

  • cricket

Good for Phil . I had a feeling that country was where his heart was. He did a great job. Melinda was super as usual. Jordin was really good too. The rest MEH ! Sanjaya was ear bleeding awful. I hope he is sent packing this week but I have a feeling that poor Phil will be sacraficed by those preteeners and the blue hairs ( like my mom whoactually thinks his name is Angina).

  • AngC30

I also thought Phil was very good tonight…so was Jordin!!I didn’t think that Chris R. was that awful….but I am partial to his smile…and the fact he looks like my hubby…Melinda was good as always, I think she looks much better with longer hair….Blake was very good, but looked unsure of himself tonight…sanjaya was awful! and Lakisha….well singing a past Idol winner’s song is usually the kiss of death….she did ok, but I do agree she yelled a lot of the song…….Sanjaya definately deserves to go home, his voice is on tune but he lacks power behind it….but My bet is Kiki is gonna go home tomorrow……but I thought that last week too..

  • madaboutu

Top three for me tonite. Melinda, Phil and Jordin. Melinda always is #1.

  • sammy

Sanjaya hit a lot of flat ones tonight. I thought it was his worst performance so far. He was pretty good last week but this week…weird hair and bad singing. Chris was almost as bad with his “nasal twang is singing” mess.

  • neonorange

Awww, no VFTW on Letterman :(

Top 10 was ways the Pope could celebrate his 80th birthday.

ETA: NVM, I just noticed he is a guest. I thought he was doing the top 10.

  • http://blog.syracuse.com/idolthoughts/ foxydonna

It’s very possible Sanjaya will go home this week if DI’s numbers are anywhere near correct. It’s time for him to go, and tonight, Simon wasn’t kidding. He’s had enough. I know I have. That was the worst performance evah.

  • madaboutu

I know some people like Blake, but I hope Tim McGraw didn’t hear that. I love that song and I did not like Blakes version, plus his vocals were off.

neonorange………What happened to VFTW? It was even printed in the Times. Was Craig Ferguson on as a guest?

  • neonorange

mad, Dave Della Terza is on next. I thought he was supposed to do the top 10 but was wrong.

  • madaboutu

neon………..thanks. Let me know if Craig is on too. I love Craig almost as much as TH……. only different. LOL

  • neonorange

Mad, Craig was on too – he was the main guest. I love the accent :)

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

As a website owner, I give mad props to Dave for being on Letterman tonight….he did good, I think

I also think someone seriously needs to make a Dave bobblehead widget…..cuz wow…he bounced his head around a lot…lol

WTG DAVE!! Good for you man!

    :thumbup_tb:

  • madaboutu

neon………..thanks for letting me know, because I will forego Leno. I watch Craig whenever I can stay up that late. He just makes me laugh out loud late at night.
steve-o……..it is strange that the media has just found out about VFTW. Dave is in the bigtime now.

  • dante

folk – thanks for the link to Ellis Paul – I downloaded the free song and I love it!

  • http://www.chris-sligh.info steve-o-meter

madaboutu – the media is ALWAYS slow on picking up on things that we cool people already know about…..hehehe

    :lol_tb:

  • GeminiDolly

Ok Phil was good, but not 1st place good. DI has been way off lately, but I do believe it is Sanjie’s time to go, although deep down I want Chris and his nasally voice outta here.

  • pippa

Listen real good….Right now there are four guys and THREE girls. That means they have to get rid of one guy to make it even… three girls and three guys. Trust me. It will happen and I think it will be Phil or Sanjaya. Too bad it’s not Lakisha b/c I don’t care for her at all.
