Jorge Nunez-Mendez – Puerto Rico – 20 -Â   Carolina, Puerto Rico

Jorge is in his fourth year at the University of Puerto Rico, Rà o Piedras. In addition to English and Spanish, Jorge Nuà ±ez is also fluent in French.

He sang in both English and Spanish for his audition. I think he’s a much better singer in his native tongue. If his singing doesn’t carry the day, his big brown eyes probably will.

He’s okay but I didn’t see or hear anything during his audition which would compel me to pick up the phone and vote.

We’ll see how he fares once the competition begins.

  • leome

He has great vocals. I think his first song was one of the best auditions this season.
Cute guy and all, he could make the top 12, so there would be contestant from Puerto Rico in the finals. Other than that, I don’t think he has much more to go far. We’ll see.

I’m pretty much meh on him. He might be able to use the AI exposure to launch a career in Puerto Rico.

  • whosefanryou

I thought he just made it to Hollywood cause they were desperate to put through a few from Puerto Rico to justify the trip. He wasn’t very good.

  • kerfuffle

I rather liked him when he sang in Spanish. I have no idea how far he can go, though. I agree he probably mainly got through to “represent” for Puerto Rico.

  • gingerly

I think he sang well but with that, I had no clue what he was singing in Spanish (and I was looking for the melody) until he got to the glory notes…meh I didn’t want to hear those in English if he couldn’t sing the rest of the song in English.

    I guess I just wasn’t impressed.

I liked his voice too, but I didn’t recognize the melody of either song. He changed them up way too much for me. I’m not sure I would call him good looking, but I did like him. He has that Latin charm. It will be interesting to see what he does in Hollywood.

My Latin coworkers looooved this guy. They instantly recognized the Spanish song and, being familiar with it, said that he did a very good job with it. I thought he was pretty good – good voice and all that. And I think he has potential, but he’s going to have to appeal to a cross-section of voters to go very far. So, we’ll see how it goes.

  • WestiesRule

It will be interesting to see how he does. I work with a lot of Puerto Ricans and I bet they love him. But, can he get the National vote.

  • St.Lucia

I wasn’t overly impressed with him but I can see how he can have one of those Jasmine Trias followings!

  • sillypraguer

This guy could have a great career in Latin music, which is a huge market. I think his voice is quite good, in the style he’s chosen. The question is how far he can go in the competition — he must have done OK with other styles at Hollywood? Anyway, I’d love to hear him do some classic spanish-language stuff, but I’m not getting my hopes up.

Jorge, sweet Jorge will probably go far in the competition. He’s cute, has a nice smile, and a really nice voice! His fan base will NOT be just from Puerto Rico! The fan girls will adore him if he has a nice personality. I hope he does well in the TOP 36.

Honestly, when was the last time there was a contestant like him? I need to see more, although I won’t be doing that much voting this season.
