OH……I thought that the judges picked (from the 3 choices), THE song the contestant should or would sing. My mistake.

I’m not sure I can stand another season where the judges pick one who can do no wrong like Melinda last year. Even if you like them to start with, it almost makes you dislike them by the end. David A may be good but I find his personality more annoying than anything.

The ‘you pick three, we pick one’ actually gives the contestants MORE choices than they used to have, believe it or not.

First of all, it’s the producers , Nigel & Ken, that have always been the choosers of the songs, not the judges, until the final couple of rounds when the judges are highlighed on the show as having picked the song. And, has been mentioned earlier, if they give the other contestants your three picks, they pick one of the other fifty for you to sing, with very little (or no) time to rehearse & arrange the song.

Remember two years ago, during country week? Taylor wanted to sing Hank Jr.’s “Country folks can survive” for the folks in West Virginia who had just had a mide disaster: Nigel vetoed it as ‘political’ and made Taylor Sing John Denver’s “Country Road” with 1 hour’s rehearsal time. That was by far Taylor’s weakest night, and he still prevailed. And that wasn’t the only time they did something like that, to Taylor, that year even!

On ‘Romantic Songs’ week, Taylor wanted to sing Otis Redding’s version of “Try a Little Tenderness”. Nigel said that even though the song was on the approved list, it was “…too Blues Brothers” and made him sing Lionel Richie’s “Just Once”. Simon gave Taylor the “song choice sucks” line, and for the second time THAT SEASON, he not only didn’t choose the song but had little chance to even practice it!

And he STILL won.

So don’t fret the song choices: you can prevail as long as you have folks that will vote for you. This show has nothing to do with talent. It has everything to do with being popular.

Regarding the boys, there are so many cuties in that group but that Castro kid knocks me out. I love him and his dreads. Dirty, clean, who the hell cares and when you have a face like his does it matter?

The last kid, David Archuletta? Awesome, its ridiculous. The other david, the young kid with attitude? love him too. The little girls will carry him through to the final 5 easily I think. Same with castro. Not that I was dialing for Castro or anything, ignore the blisters on my finger, there is nothing to see here…move along.

I think Haley took ***’s extensions and wore them throughout the tour so they are probably trashed.

How do you pick which songs to perform?
“They’ll give you the artist, their entire catalogue, and say, pick your three favorite songs, and they narrow it down from the three and choose one for you. You pick them, but it’s still kind of random at the same time.”

Hey, I’ve complained about Jason’s dreads and I do understand dreads — some of my son’s friends have them. Anyway you look at them, they “appear” dirty and dead, similar to a head full of fried ends. No sheen, no shine.

I do like the look on Jason though, from a distance.
